Some more details about the American Legion Conference:
/// President Obama will be back in Minnesota Tuesday. It has been just two weeks since his last stop in the state. Monday, the President will speak at the American Legion Conference in downtown Minneapolis. Veterans will be making signs to welcome President Obama to the Twin Cities. More than 100 units including the National Guard, Honor Guard, and American Legion members hit the streets Sunday for the 93rd National Convention of the American Legion Parade. More than 10,000 Veterans from across the country are in town for the parade. The President is scheduled to address the convention Tuesday. ///
Thanks for the background info hopefruit2. Darn I’m gonna miss the speech because of this thing we call education. Why oh why do I have to go to classes, get an education, earn a degree and miss my President’s speech?………………………… Oh yeah, I don’t want to end up an ignorant GOPTeabagger.
Not to worry ut. You could never be a GOPBAGGER if you tried:) Hopefully our Chips will have a video up in no time. CSPAN might archive it as well, but not sure.
” Why oh why do I have to go to classes, get an education, earn a degree and miss my President’s speech?………………………… Oh yeah, I don’t want to end up an ignorant GOPTeabagger.”
Utaustinliberal, I really love your sense of humor! You are the kind of student I would love to have in my classes. You probably keep your professors on their toes! I truly enjoy reading your commentaries. It’s so gratifying to know that not all Texans behave like Rick Perry, Ron Paul, Tom (The Harmer) Delay, Dick Army, and of course G.W. Bush. I have friends in Austin who love the place. I hope one of these days I will be able to visit them. Best of luck with your classes.
Yes, utaustinliberal, we need you educated and articulate right there in the heart of Texas. Find the words and the thinking and the concepts we have available to us [i.e., deliberation, empathy, compromise] to grow ourselves in democracy. So: off you go to class.
I speak as a grey-headed gramma who grew up in the state of Texas [Houston and Lubbock], now transplanted to NorthCarolina where the climate is softer and a bit more deliberative [sometimes]. xoxox I recommend Reading Obama by James T. Kloppenberg. It’s giving me an education. Are you familiar with this book? All of us on TOD could read this and deepen our selves as citizens.
this is so true. I was 40 seconds late to my class this morning (we are only given one free tardy, everytime after that comes off of our grades— this is a grad program, can you believe this crap?) anyway, typically I would be mad, but on the shuttle, I heard PBO talking on the TJ morning show. it was well worth the lateness. Also, I’m gonna be missing PBO’s speech too. 😦 Got clients, then I’m probably gonna be working in the Testing Library 😦 😦 😦 :(— I hate school 😦
I absolutely know it would never happen for security reasons, but I’d sure love to see President Obama in the American Legion parade. To see his happy, encouraging countenance (and to see him smiling and waving) among a whole slew of veterans, with cheering crowds, would just be a beautiful sight to see.
Okay, I’m awake from that dream. Whew – seemed real.
I so happy that the American Legion Conference will be in Minnesota and that the President will be greeted by veterans. The last American Legion conference he spoke at, he was greeted by right wing loons with guns.
I am listening to a rebroadcast of Rev Al’s radio show and listening to Dr. Earl Ofaree Hutchison, a regular commentator. He’s discussing some current polls of PBO, and lays out how there is latent bigotry in the msm; how when there is an AA in any responsible office, that they are considered suspect; that there is a white backlash across the country from independents, rethugs, even some dems, against PBO in the guise of his handling of the economy. Rev Al’s question was, how is this possible when PBO got elected with the help of a lot of white people, but Dr. Hutchison said he always keeps in his mind that despite all the awfulness of rethugs, that McCain and sidekick still got 60% of the white vote. This is very concerning to me, and things are not helped by the backstabbing of Dems in congress, haters from the AA community, etc. All I can see is a seawall of contempt for PBO where there is no reasonable expanation to be made for it all. I don’t feel so good about this. I don’t want to hear….oh, it’s because of the economy. No, as Rev Al asked the Dr., could it be that whites were tired of Bush, among some other issues ( I forget the others right now), and the Dr. said all of those he mentioned. Also, that rethugs have been able to hammer their hate at these people and twist things to gain traction against PBO, even to the point of, again, making people vote against their own interests……note the nationwide attemps of voter disenfranchisement, attempts to take back our rights, etc. Funny..now I just heard a commercial for Ed’s radio show, and a lady apparently white and from Texas, is blasting Perry and she said there’s some crooked stuff going on with him. I didn’t mean to ramble TOD, but this is going to be a hell of a battle in getting PBO re-elected, and it is, as I’ve said so many times, pure and simple racism. It’s a sad day in this sad, sad country, IMO. I try to keep the faith, but I really need a big burst of hope and inspiration. Back to my prayers for PBO.
Think about the PBO headquarters that opened in Florida…packed house, diverse and full of energy and excitement. Lets join hands, and reach for more hands….together we will get this done.
Lots of hugs honey. We have to keep the faith, but sometimes, it’s okay to express how you feel and let out the pain. Chips and you guys were there for me during my meltdown and it was ugly, lol. This President is going to be okay and we are going to be okay too. It’s only our faith that is going to get us through. I have channelled the pain someplace, not quite sure where, but I feel better about this struggle. I suppose I put in the spiritual realm and I found comfort there. I limit what I read and watch. Sometimes, I don’t even watch my favorite guy Rev. Al. I don’t want to see Michael Steele and those republican pundits. I don’t watch as much as I used to. I don’t click on the links out there and not even here and subsequently, I feel better. I have learned that I will really have to tune out these Republican candidates. Too much. I can’t stand them lying on the President and making stuff up. Take a media holiday and only take in what you need to know for a while. Blogging can get you down too. Hope this helps. Love ya.
Thanks, Doris. Yes, lots of hugs. You have such precious and loving advice to all of us. Thank you for your gentle but firm spirit within our family here.HZ
HZ honey, I get my energy from you. I’m feeding off of the warm and loving advice you give us every day. We have a long way to go so we need to pace ourselves for the long haul. Hope you are feeling good tonight. Love and prayers.
EDP4BHO – We’re all praying for him, too. I hope you hang in there, and not let some of this take away your joy at working hard to get the President re-elected – or just hanging here among others who feel the same joy.
If it helps, I can assure you, as an older white woman, that I didn’t vote for President Obama for any reason other than he was the best possible candidate the Democrats could put forth in ’08 — no, the best possible candidate any political party could call their own. None of my friends who are white, of any age, young or old, voted because of Bush or national guilt or any of the other so-called reasons given since his election. HE PERSONALLY EARNED OUR VOTES. Some of those suggestions defy reason – a Democrat could have voted for Hillary or John Edwards, if they were just tired of Bush, etc. I hate this kind of blubbering from people on the national stage who try to speak for any of us, because it diminishes the importance I gave my vote, and the importance you gave your vote, and tries to steal the extreme love and respect we’ve all had and continue to have for Barack Obama (in my case, since 2007).
That’s right Jacqueline. I find this “guilt” nonsense insulting to white voters. It’s a RW talking point to try to shame white voters into withholding supporting from this President. It’s very similar to the Black critics who claim that PBO’s black supporters are afraid to criticize him simply because he’s black. Nonsense. New York’s first black governor, David Patterson had a 30-40% approval rating among NY Blacks by the time he left office! NY Blacks voted for Andrew Cuomo – over former black panther Charles Barron and Rent is too Damn high Jimmy McMillan who is also Black.
According to Slate: “The sad reality is that no Democratic candidate for president since Lyndon Johnson has won a majority of white votes (and even he lost 1964’s white Southern vote to Barry Goldwater). ”
And: “He won a larger proportion of white votes than any previous nonincumbent Democratic presidential candidate since Carter.”
I share your fears but the White vote has escaped many Dem presidents/candidates. And this is part of why the CBC pisses me off. They want Obama to push an AA jobs bill/agenda w/o any consideration as to how that alienates the entire country, hurts the party’s chances to retake Congress and hurts the chances of any other non-White Dem candidate who wants to run for the Presidency. Its divisive at a time when we should be trying to take this demographic back from the Repubs.
Don’t lose hope, EDP4BHO. i can assure you the President has not lost any white voters, just because what some guy on TV says. Those white rural voters on the bus tour love PBO. They are a better barometer of support than some poll. Just as he has not lost African American voters just because of what 2 fools on a bus say. Hang in there we are in the August silly season. Just wait until PBO hits the campaign trail, you will get your burst of hope and inspiration.
Just want to say that, when I call bank, canvass, and register voters….we are ALL white. I don’t know where people get these numbers about how many of what race voted for who. If anyone walked up to me before or after voting I would politely decline to answer the question. To be honest…I became a poll worker in 2008…. I made sure no mistakes were made in casting ballots.
As Sue said to beautifully, remember all of the corners of this country that we do not see or hear what the boots on the ground are doing. As for the hugs, we need to spread this everyday we are awake and alive. Just keep sending them to Chips, and all of the wonderful contributors she shares with us daily. We are here to share and give factual intormation. We are here to be truthful with our thoughts and emotions. We are here to not bash our President,, but support him. We are here to keep our focus on the issues that he constantly lay out before us. We are here to keep all of our techy skills in full force to rebuttals in the MSM. We are here to spread the good information wherever we can. We are here to uplift our President and his entire Administration and staff. We are here to speak with respect to each other at all times. We are here to be supportive when one TOD member is a little down and needs a lift. We are here to converse with each other on issues concerning our President’s policies but with respect and non negative and unnecessay in your face attitudes. We are here to make this a place where we work to solve problems that we see with truth, community unity, and love and respect. We are here to move our country forward not backwards. We are here to inspect and inform the MSM about their lies and misrepresentation of this President. We are here to get this job or re-electing President Barack Obama for another term in 2012. Period. No if and ands or buts. We are here because we have faith in this President, Barack Obama. Faith is a real thing. You can place it in the real deal or the not real deal. I think we would be so unfair to our President, if anyone of us say that he is not real with us. So we know what we have to do. March with the Drummer and keep the beat, and hold our heads up high, and speak the truth to the haters with so much truth and love that their heads will be spinning. We know what we are here for. Let us not waste Chips time or anyone’s time, let us move together to get this done. We can and We Must. I love my TOD family and Chips so much that at my age, I am willing to stay until the job is completed, if you all will have me. I have been writing letters the late part of the day to my Senators, and to Senator and Chairman Leahy about the judicial nominations status. Let’s flood the mailboxes all week. We need to do this. Tomorrow, Lord willing, I will be at it again. We are here because we love each other, our President, our citizens who can’t fight for themselves, and for our Chips who leads us with so much passion and committment. I love you all so much.HZ
MTmarilyn, is just believe that we are doing our preparations phases now. Thank you Chips. Some of us will never know what Chips has to go through each day to make this a beautiful site, so when we can, we must always keep that in mind. We need to all be reading the same book, same chapter, on the same page, same paragraph, and same sentence when the orders are called out by POB. Can we imagine what this site will be like when the campaign really hits the road. Be prepared, always be prepared. Listen, listen, and act. We love you so much, Chipsticks and we support what you are doing each day on this site. I say that often because I believe in giving thanks to for such a beautiful gift in our Chips. Thank you and I pray that you will have a restful evening, Chips. Love you back so much,HZ
@ Meta You are correct Dr. Earl Ofaree Hutchison is a writer for HuffPo and he has written really bad articles about president Obama. He was originally a Clinton supporter and I dont trust anything he says. people said back in 2007 that (then Senator Obama) would not beat the clintons and he did. They said he would never get elected and he did. They used race throughout the campaign with comments like (“he will never get the white vote”) and lots of other nonsense. What we have to remember is that we are the ones who will make a difference by volunteering and helping when ever we can. Have to remember to tune out opinions from the talking heads and just to keep focused 🙂
I just finished watching Rev Al’s show online. I got excited as I looked for his show’s title and then CLICKED on it!!! And of course, he didn’t disappoint me with his first official show! I’m gonna have to send him an email. 🙂

Dotster3, seems like a good move. We shall see. I am saying good night to my TOD family. I just received three of my new books to read for the next three weeks. Starting with “Over The Cliff”:How Obama’s Election Drove the American Right Insane.” I will informed anyone who is interested in the type of read that I come away with in the end. Goodnight to my TOD Family. Love you Chips. HZ
Interesting hire. Mr Johnson will be responsible for the South East – Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina. That seems like a mighty big chunk, but only two states are probably in play really. I guess more could be if Romney is the GOP nominee as Mitt will not rally the base well in the South on his own – I can’t imagine him running away from SC will be seen as a good look for him either. I can’t imagine Mitt going over well stumping in the South really outside of Florida. He’s more a north eastern and mountain west type. He’ll definitely need a southerner on his ticket.
People get ready, there’s a train comin’
You don’t need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin’
You don’t need no ticket you just thank the lord

There’s hope for all among those loved the most
There ain’t no room for the hopeless Whiners..Just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner (Repubs)
For there is no hiding place against the kingdoms throne
People get ready there’s a train comin’
You don’t need no baggage, just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin’

ARE YOU FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!!!!….AL YOU NEED IS FAITH TO HEAR THE DIESELS HUMMING!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!
Sorry for the tangent, but I just had to share this.
As if there weren’t enough reason to be angry at the war-criminal Bushies — you may have seen the coverage of Cheney’s current book tour — Rumsfeld is yet another one of these slimeballs trying to make a buck off their lies that got us into war. This bastard had the unmitigated gall to try and sell his swill on a military base. My heart goes out to this poor woman who lost her husband to suicide and the families of the many veterans who suffered the horrors of war only to come home to face a new set of horrors in the form of ignored requests for help and despicable red tape. I know this site is supposed to be reserved for positive, uplifting stories, but I so hope that stories like this one get the exposure they deserve, so that they stir people to work hard to wash our political system of the stench that Rumsfeld, Cheney and their ilk have wreaked upon us. God Bless Mrs. Joppa-Hagemann and all of our military families.

Army Ranger’s Widow Confronts Rumsfeld About Her Husband’s Suicide
Security officers removed an Army Ranger’s widow from former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s book signing at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. Ashley Joppa-Hagemann, whose husband committed suicide in June before his ninth deployment, said her husband joined the military because of 9/11, and she said “it was his (Rumsfeld’s) lies that cost my husband his life.” Her husband had been diagnosed with PTSD but had not received help despite requesting it. Joppa-Hagemann introduced herself to Rumsfeld by handing him a copy of her husband’s funeral program and blamed Rumsfeld for not providing enough support for soldiers returning home before security officers removed her and anti-war veteran Jorge Gonzalez from the event

– Thank you to all those who supported us and those of you who believed in us! #Tripoli #Libya #Feb17
– I heard that women weren’t coming to this rally due to security. !! 😉 🙂 They came they always do! It was fine and even children showed!
– I can’t even estimate how many people were there at #MartyrSquare. #Libya #feb17 #Tripoli
– The crowd roared to many things and of them was the name of #Mustafa #AbdulJaleel #Tripoli made so much noise for that many, he deserves it
– As I tweet right now. I keep having to remind myself we’re in #Tripoli! Finally did it! #AllahuAkbar Thank god!
– @xanalysis Thanks! I can’t even watch it. 🙂 I was there though. Amazing AMAZING feeling entering that square!! #Tripoli
– There will be rallies and protests and more rallies, but honestly nothing close to the feel we felt entering the square the way we did!
– #MartyrSquare was PACKED. The GROUND WAS SHAKING. Amazing feeling as we rushed in the centre and chanted “DAM ASHUHADA’ MAYamsheesh Haba'”
– #TripoliChants: “la la la, irsas la la” -no no no, bullets no no- #Libya #Tripoli
– Before this Rally/Protest people were going around honking their horns and waving the independence flag. They waited and waited for this!
– and the famous…: “DAM ASHUHADA’, MA YAMSHEESH HABA’ -Martyr’s blood, will not go vain. #Libya #Tripoli
– ….. the crowd chanted: “TIBY WALA LA MAYDAN ASHUHADA’ ” -you want or you don’t want, #MartyrSquare- #TRIPOLI #LIBYA
– Part of the rally started in #Fashloom and the crowd started to grow. As we neared #MartyrSquare….. #Tripoli #Libya
– ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO DREAMED TO SING the NATIONAL ANTHEM…IT HAPPENED. #Libya #feb17
– There are some planned rallies, but the #Tripoli decided to surprise #Libya!
– THE GROUND WAS LITERALLY SHAKING!! #TRIPOLI #Libya
– HAS ANYONE BEEN WATCHING #MartyrSquare ? #Libya #Tripoli The BIGGEST RALLY IN FREE LIBYA YET!”
Thanks Bob for these updates!! Notice the media has quickly moved on from the Libya issue. Guess there’s nothing to criticize PBO about there. Let’s find something more interesting…like a drunk guy who happens to share his last name but his not really his biological uncle, and whom he barely knows if at all. I guess I can claim the late Bob Hope as my relative too 🙂

Good to hear that Hutchison finally gets it. He was (still is? dunno) a writer at HuffPo who wrote essay after essay against PBO for the longest time.
Hutchinson is not to be trusted. I sense his craftiness. An undercover PL.
Correct. Hutch is a media chaser. We have several pretenders here in Los Angeles and he’s one of them. He speaks only ONLY for the attention.
Yeah, that’s my instinct, too.
That’s one reason why I take them all with a grain of salt, except the few who can say they disagree with PBO without getting nasty.

Always love what you have to say HZ!!! You are an inspiration. Thank you for all you give to each one of us in this family!
I agree with all you said. We all are so thankful for Chips. She is a special Angel!
Yeah, thanks. I seem to remember he was a PUMA but then I didn’t read much of his tripe after I figured it out. Needless aggravation.

HZ
Happy reading, HZ!
Here’s Tharon Johnson’s photo, and a short bio listed under “Atlanta’s People to Watch 2009”:

– I can’t even estimate how many people were there at #MartyrSquare. #Libya #feb17 #Tripoli

Yes.We.Can. … DO.More.Together!
I guess I can claim the late Bob Hope as my relative too 🙂
Interesting article concerning the House GOP’s latest sabotage attempt in relation to the Obama’s foreign policy apporoach –
