okay, i’ve been cruel….

GOVCHRIS1988 finished me off: “Please tell me the page changed, or else I am going to the eye doctor first thing in the morning because Iโ€™m colorblind.”

๐Ÿ˜†

Confession: I have been playing around with the banner, too much time on my hands – hang in there, I’ll stop playing soon!

๐Ÿ˜‰

****

****

This is tricky – and way more important – than the debt limit negotiations.

Red is winning – which is a shock on a Dem site. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

But when I wake up in the morning I’ll bow to the majority – democracy rules!

****

Okay, it’s back to red we go!

Will play around with it again later today, I just have to find change we can all believe in!

๐Ÿ˜‰

        Twice today Chips lol

First this: mark knoller: 44 plays 9 rounds of golf after causing 5.9 earthquake
I got angry and read it so fast that I didn’t see the second line: ok Knoller didn’t tweet that.
I almost send him an angry tweet, I saw the second line at the last second.

And the new banner. I thought: oh crap I’m having problems again. and I closed TOD and opened it again, I did it about 4 times.

        lol

PULEEEESE! Go back to the old heading. Adding the graphic is fine. But I have more than a decade of experience in publications and the hardest text to read is white on black. It is bad enough if you have normal vision, but when you have to wear reading glasses on top of your contactsโ€ฆAnd no, making the text larger does not make it less of a strain on the eyes. Really, I’m begging you, dump the black background.

I got nothing but love for you. I visit every day.

My gift to the TOD family tonight…..

This is totally and completely off topic and it has nothing to do with politics. Considering all of the drama we have been experiencing for the last few days (Republican lies, Tripoli, earthquake, and hurricane Irene on the way), I thought we all needed a little diversion. This video is a delicious morsel. An escape from the madness. A tonic for the soul.

It’s a little boy experiencing the magic of music. I call it 4 1/2 minutes of pure joy. A couple of important things to notice. The little whippersnapper picks his nose and manages not to poke his eyes out while skillfully using a maestro’s baton. The ending is hilarious and priceless.

Chips I like where you are going with the new one, it has a clean simplicity to it that is nice but it might not pop quite enough and I don’t think there is enough differentiation between “Obama” and “The Diary”, perhaps a font change or maybe a bit more color differentiation with the words would help. I like the silhouette. Keep playing around it’s fun to change things up and evolve ๐Ÿ˜‰

    August 23, 2011 at 10:09 pm

You now have a majority for the old one. Speaking of polls, I think it as Keith who was swearing Gallup earlier. Saw on Twitter that 7-10 poll averages have PBO in the lead including over Romney by 2.6%

Now, I know we shouldn’t set much store by polls but I like numbers, at least when they look positive for our side.

Hopefully Perry’s ego won’t let him lose and he goes hard negative against Romney – because either somebody in the GOP does, or the Obama campaign will have to. And the Republicans and MSM will howl at the attacks, seemingly blind to the constant negative smears the GOP have been launching for three years now at President Obama.

Exactly STR. I have a feeling NO Rethug candidate and their campaign will go after Romney. All of them are obseesed with defeating Obama. Unfortunately the Obama campaign will have to attack unless we can find 3rd party PACS that are willing to do the dirty work. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I’ll take whatever suits your style. I will say I like the old one better. The new one seems a bit bland, if the font were larger so it filled the space more, and the O on Obama was capitalized it might read differently to me. I love President Obama’s profile, I think he has a gorgeous nose..I know silly, but I do, but I think it is barely distinguishable against the background. I also loved the little smile on his face on the previous photo, always reminds me that Yes.We.Did. But that is neither here nor there….the quality of your content and the spirit of your community are what really matter….and that is perfection.

    • August 23, 2011 at 10:24 pm

Ref The New Banner: What would it look like with the red banner or a blue banner with the phrase โ€œphotos, videos and a word or twoโ€ and make PBO profile something like TOAITR picture thatโ€™s at the top right-side of the websiteโ€”but do it with Chipsticks style & imagination. The only problem to me, is that the profile doesn’t show up well on my computer. In fact, I didn’t know there was a profile until someone mentioned it. It just looked like solid black. I think the red, or brownish on my computer, with the profile would be stunning. I will continue to read and comment no matter what the masthead is. I just admire you so much for keeping this up! alright.. I like the black better.. but the red okay too.

Now I’ve got a question for folks here.. I don’t watch tv as I’ve mentioned before, but I read all the pundit bs that gets said here and elsewhere, so I think I’m relatively fairly well informed. My question is: what do you all think of Melissa Harris Perry on Msnbc? I just read a comment on twitter that she supposedly made tonight on ‘last word’ and it’s not the first time I’ve read some off the wall stuff she says.. so can someone give me a clearer idea of what she’s up to? I read on Twitter tonight that she commented that her Uncle Fred believes that POTUS is a secret muslim and not a citizen- and dangerous. I’m thinking/hoping that she used that comment as a teaching moment.. otherwise why say it outloud on National tv?? anyone hear this?

    • 105 utaustinliberal
      August 23, 2011 at 11:05 pm

She was using it as a teaching moment in response to some GOP Facebook page that was filled with racist disgusting tripe about PBO. She was trying to explain that though people may be political opponents, we’re not enemies. And that disgusting personal attacks that use violent rhetoric against each other or PBO should not be acceptable. She also pointed out that people in her family don’t share her Uncle Fred’s views about PBO. Her family is full of democrats and Uncle Fred is the odd duck.

      • August 23, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Your take is different than what I read on twitter.. sounds better your way. I have to ask what is the point of Michael Steele? What is the point of them caring what some nutball is writing on facebook- why should the nation care about this? why isn’t that time used to clarify the facts of what is really going on with the administration, the country and the congress- rather than playing he said she said on national tv with a KNOWN LIAR – Michael Steele? Not asking you Ut.. just once again so pathetic what folks consider adult behavior on tv.

        • August 23, 2011 at 11:24 pm

I swear, the entire media enterprise has been reduced to sniveling babbling idiots. I’m so glad I don’t have cable. Talk about dumbing down. Oooof.

        • 109 Sue in Minnesota
          August 23, 2011 at 11:41 pm

Sherijr…I think Melissa is alot like President Obama, IMO she always strives to understand all sides and to find reason. I have no idea what you are referencing, but from seeing her with regularity on Olbermann/Maddow and O’Donnell’s shows I’ld say she is always willing to see all sides. I think she is very nuanced, very analytical but refrains from being judgemental…if that makes sense.

Even the best of them seem to have to mold themselves to some type of media agenda…..and no one in the media seems to want to risk giving President Obama much credit. Makes me sick, is that some kind of power trip or what?

Michael Steele is so full of himself…..the other night when someone mentioned the new head of the RNC Pribus, Steele deflated like a punctured balloon, that spoke volumes to me about his false sense of bravado and his very fragile ego.

          • August 23, 2011 at 11:48 pm

Agreed. It doesn’t take long for them to be co-opted by the people they work for. At this point, it’s entirely predictable.

          • August 24, 2011 at 12:14 am

nicely said Sue. I don’t have an opinion of her yet, other than skepticism having not viewed her myself at all.. but I am of the mind that yes they will all ‘mold’ themselves to fit the media agenda’. Well put. I read on twitter last week that she blasted FLOTUS for going to see the movie “The Help” – No matter what the movie was, it put my hackles up some to read about anyone going after FLOTUS. Thus my skepticism.

            • 112 Sue in Minnesota
              August 24, 2011 at 2:43 am

She’s a professor of Political Studies at Tualne University, but she previously taught African American Studies at Princeton and I think political science. I don’t know what she found objectionable in the movie, but perhaps she didn’t feel it authentically represented AA women. Or maybe somehow it romanticized and distorted reality, as movies tend to do. I don’t think she needs to tell FLOTUS what movies to see, or how she should think or feel about them. I am going to see if I can find her expressed opinion and see what the rub is.

Found it, she feels it does a serious injustice to the actual lives of these women, who often suffered brutality and rape, even lynching and is a disservice to historical credibility. She did think the acting was good and despite her criticisms it was an entertaining movie.

              • August 24, 2011 at 8:11 am

My point wasn’t about the movie- I’ve read that about the movie, that like many of that nature it distorts reality.. etc. My point was that she apparently singled out FLOTUS for seeing it- whatever her perspective is on this movie, and no matter how right she may be in her assessment- I don’t see going after First Lady Michelle as anything other than seeking attention. I know of Melissa’s education, background, etc- I was more concerned about her motives, I don’t question her intelligence.. but I do suspect her intentions- she is putting me in mind of Rachel Maddow.

                • August 24, 2011 at 8:46 am

Excuse me, but can’t FLOTUS go see whatever movie she wants. If Melissa went after FLOTUS for that, once again it proves you can have education, but you still can be a educated fool. My niece suggested that I go see the movie, better yet she said I should read the book.

And the larger point you make is most important, the MSM squanders it’s platform and I think it’s responsibility to inform Americans about the issues we confront today. They refuse too incorporate context, they create no space for serious or civil discussion or debate, they insult our collective intelligence, and they indulge in their insider status of a sub culture that in fact is not for their benefit or personal gain, but is there for the purpose of seving Americans and their collective needs. They amplify and exacerbate the trivial, the tactical, and the political. They are supposed to be in service to our Democracy, but IMO they are acting in self-interest and seem biased to a Republican agenda.

I believe we share the same lack of respect for them and a similiarlevel of frustration.

              • August 24, 2011 at 10:17 am

I think it’s the HEIGHT of hypocrisy to see a movie and then FAULT anyone else for seeing the movie!!! She saw it and wrote a critique of it. Why should anyone else not be able to do the same for themselves? IT MAKES NO SENSE.

          • 118 Anna Luc
            August 24, 2011 at 11:56 am

Melissa Harris Perry is a professor of political science at Tulane University and founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Project on Gender, Race, and Politics in the South. This lady is going to have her own opinion. She will not agree with the President’s policy on everything. However, she absolutely supports his presidency. When she disagrees, Prof. Perry is never directs personal or pejorative remarks at PBO.

I like her even when I don’t agree with her take, because she brings an activist’s intellectual’s authenticity and honesty — like the conservative Frareed Zakaria who also supports PBO and critiques his policies. Oh, I also love that she wears cornrowsโ€“that alone is a radical statement on cable.

      • August 23, 2011 at 11:40 pm

Melissa has mentioned on several times that she is also a bi-racial child. Her father is black and her mother is white. So uncle Fred could be on either side. I think that her perpective on some of the racial issues about POTUS, she probably can identify with on a level that many may not. I am one who can identify with her comment about Uncle Fred or Aunt May. I have it in my family as well. I do not think she is up to anything that is inapporpriate. We all have families who have their concepts based on false information. And at times we have to acknowledge each person’s views in our mixed families, and then set them on a path of truth in a gentle but firm manner. It is called in my family.”A Coming To Truth Service.”

        • August 24, 2011 at 12:10 am

thanks for your perspective HZ, appreciate that- and it reminded me that I have an Aunt Diane.. luckily I just don’t see her much, but I get that.. I don’t get the desire to discuss this on national tv I guess- it’s more like dinner conversation to me, but then I keep hoping they’ll actually begin viewing the ‘big picture’ on the national news and play it straight and factual.. I know better than to expect it.

Well said HZ, I love your post especially the part about us all having families who have their concepts based on false information. In my family there are a few who fall for the media garbage about PBO, some are resonably sane and will listen to both sides but there are two who condemn me to h*** for supporting the President (although they don’t refer to him that way) – one is both racist and anti-American so I have had to back away from them as biggotry really repulses me. I love them because they are family but I can not respect them or reason with them. I heard my son speaking with one of them on the phone a while back and I caught a snippit of the conversation where he said “please don’t use that word, it’s mean and horrible. I love him.” I let him finish the conversation and asked him what word he didn’t like, he told me it was the ‘n’ word. I praised him for being calm but speaking his mind and called that person back and expressed my wish that they refrain from derogatory comments in front of my son in future as it upsets him and he doesn’t understand why people think like that.

Sorry to ramble again, I just had to share that with you guys. God bless you all.

I know itโ€™s not about me, but right now my life may not be able to handle something so dramatically new. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Although I think the design of the new masthead is bold, creative, and appealing, Iโ€™ve got a set-in-my-old-ways spirit on me tonite. On any other night, I might have voted for the new design.

But which ever design you choose, Chips, Iโ€™ll keep coming back to TOD. With BWD in hiatus and WSY down for temporary maintenance, Iโ€™m just afraid I might wake up one day and TOD will be gone.:) That is something I don’t won’t to see happen. By all means, make any design changes you want to make –(it’s your own damn blog) :)– but please just donโ€™t leave us, Chipsticksโ€”PBO needs us, and we need you & TOD. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Chips, for the last two months or so I’ve been on the tail end of everything here, but I hope my two cents will still be considered. ๐Ÿ˜‰ While I like both, even Jacqueline’s silhouette, I have to admit that the new one HURTS MY EYES big time despite my bifocals, and I didn’t see the silhouette until it was pointed out! Nevertheless, whatever the outcome, I’m in for the long haul – even if I have to read in small doses. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Good night one and all!

I like the new one – LOVE the silhouette! It is different and you don’t see that dramatic a picture of PBO. That’s just my two cents – but what I really like is this blog and all the crazy work you do Chips. Everybody is so on top of it here I feel. Since reading this blog and BWD’s I just feel so much more informed. Don’t you guys?

Anyhoo. It’s getting late I gots to go to bed! Nitey nite! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey Chips, since red seems to be winning maybe just keep the colors the same but change up the font!

Hi Chips, I apologize because I did not see the full shot. I love the black one with the silhouette. Very classy. I voted for that one as well. Thanks so much for all of the inspiration that you bring to your blog. I appreciate it so very much. I really, really do, Chips. My brother is so happy that I have found a place that I truly find deep appreciation and pleasure in these days. I brag about our TOD Family all the time. I just changed the decor in my living room to a warm deep brown, and if I must say, it is elegant. So go on with your bad self, and do your thing. I love it, Chips. Thank you so much!!! Good Night TOD Family. HZ

Not bothered either way, but I have to admit, I did get a kick out of seeing President Obama laughing while straightening his tie.

But really, Chica? You could make it purple with green stripes and yellow polka dots. As long as the site stays sane, I’m in.
