okay, i’ve been cruel….

GOVCHRIS1988 finished me off: “Please tell me the page changed, or else I am going to the eye doctor first thing in the morning because I’m colorblind.”

😆

Confession: I have been playing around with the banner, too much time on my hands – hang in there, I’ll stop playing soon!

😉

****

****

This is tricky – and way more important – than the debt limit negotiations.

Red is winning – which is a shock on a Dem site. 😯

But when I wake up in the morning I’ll bow to the majority – democracy rules!

****

Okay, it’s back to red we go!

Will play around with it again later today, I just have to find change we can all believe in!

scholastic!

PRNewsWire: The Scholastic News Kids Press Corps announced today that two of its Kid Reporters, ten-year-old Topanga Sena of Orlando, Florida, and eleven-year-old Jacob Schroeder of Albuquerque, New Mexico, conducted an exclusive interview with President Barack Obama at the White House in time for back-to-school. This is the first time in its decade-long history that members of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, the country’s largest and longest-running national student reporting program, have interviewed a sitting President of the United States.

The interview, which took place July 15th in the White House Library, covered a wide range of topics including the economy’s effect on the nation’s struggling families, the importance of education for 21st century jobs, the relevance of the 224 year-old U.S. Constitution, and the books that were important in his childhood. The President also explained how he talks to his young daughters about the events of 9/11, telling the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps that it was a tragic moment for all of us, adding, “But I think it’s important for us to realize that, as terrible as that day was, it brought America together and it reminded us that we’re all one people, and that each of us have a responsibility as citizens of the United States, to try to make this country the best it can be.”

As the interview came to a close, a surprise visitor trotted into the room. Bo, the First Dog, greeted the Kid Reporters with the wag of a tail and earned a treat from the President.

Jeez, the interview with the kids was the same day as:

President Obama holds a news conference in the White House, July 15 … he discussed the ongoing budget and debt limit negotiations with Congressional Republicans and Democrats.

And:

Never mind all the meetings that day.

What a life.

joe in japan

Vice President Joe Biden, with a child survivor of the March earthquake and tsunami, at a temporary housing complex for tsunami victims in Natori, one of the hardest quake stricken cities, in northeastern Japan, Aug. 23

AFP: Vice President Joe Biden praised Japan’s courage and resolve as he visited its tsunami-shattered coast, where American forces helped with a large-scale relief effort.

Biden, near the end of an Asia tour, is the top-ranking American official to travel to the region where the March 11 earthquake and tsunami claimed more than 20,000 lives and sparked the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

…. “I came to express not only my commitment to say, ‘We will do whatever we can to help,’ but to tell you how much the president, how much I, how much the American people admire your character.”

… The United States, which has maintained bases across Japan since World War II, mobilised more than 20,000 troops and some 160 aircraft in disaster relief and recovery operations after Japan’s worst peace-time catastrophe.

One of the core achievements of the US “Operation Tomodachi” (Friend) was to clear Sendai’s international airport, where the tsunami had swept aircraft, cars, mud and debris across runways and into terminals.

At earlier talks in Tokyo, Japan’s outgoing centre-left Prime Minister Naoto Kan thanked Biden for his country’s “enormous assistance” and said he would like to “reiterate our gratitude” on behalf of Japan’s people.

“You do not need to express gratitude to us,” Biden replied. “You’d do the same for us. Our only regret is that we could not do even more.”
