labor day

Freep.com: President Barack Obama will join thousands of union members at Labor Day festivities in Detroit.

Obama will deliver remarks at a Labor Day event sponsored by the Metro Detroit Central Labor Council, the White House announced today.

Metro Detroit AFL-CIO President Saundra Williams said Obama’s visit will likely mean there could be more than 100,000 people participating in the Labor Day parade and its associated activities. The typical crowd each year is 50,000 to 60,000, she said.

“We’re always ready for the president to join us, and we’re very pleased that he’s coming this year,” Williams said.

Williams said the event’s organizers do not expect Obama to walk in the parade itself; however, he will give a speech afterward at a location yet to be announced. The parade begins at about 9:30 a.m. on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit.

“We’d love it if he would march with us, right there in the leadership line, but I can understand how that could be complicated,” Williams said. “I’m sure the Secret Service wouldn’t like that very much.”

Yeah, I could see that as being a bit of a problem. LOL.

Hope somebody will televise it. If CSpan can televise Ann Coulter pushing her book, why can’t they do this for the American people? I know, that’s asking to much.

Obama believes in Unions! He will be there for them. Him not getting involved in states politics is very important. They knew that in Wisconsin. Ed Schultz is nuts when he thinks the President should have gotten involved. The President is smarter than us all.

Labor is fighting back:: AFL-CIO seeks to boost clout with super PAC

The AFL-CIO hopes to boost its clout by launching a new political action committee that could raise unlimited amounts of money, part of the federation’s goal of building a year-round political organizing structure.

Forming a so-called “super labor PAC” would allow the labor federation to raise money from sympathetic donors both inside and outside union membership and mobilize support beyond its traditional base, instead of ramping up political activities each election cycle.

The move would also help steer more of labor’s money to state legislative battles, where unions have been battling efforts to curb union rights in states like Wisconsin and Ohio…

That’s excellent. The Liberals need to take advantage of Citizens United too. The Unions need to really expand their appeal beyond union workers to evern non union workers who are getting a raw deal.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. President Obama’s opponents criticize him all the time and then they copy everything he does. There is nothing original or creative coming from any of the GOP unhinged and weak candidates.

How can it be too late when it will be blocked by the GOP House, and denied cloture by the GOP Senate?

As for Romney following President Obama around – it’s a campaign trick to get his name mentioned wint Obama’s time and time again to make the connection in readers minds that they are somehow on the same level and Romney is the only candidate to take on President Obama. Even if not mentioned in the same article, most press covering the President on the day would feel the need to cover Romney as well and the stories would be “While the President talked about x,y,z in town A, GOP Contender Mitt Romney was in town B today…”

Her whole background, and that of her husband, is sketchy. I read she used to call herself Dr. Michele, even tho she is not a dr. and does not have a PHd. Maybe she got the idea from her husband because he calls himself Dr. from supposedly being awarded a Phd from a fly by night correspondence school in a subject that the school didn’t even offer at the time. Everything about their lives is a lie.

Right the same Jesse Jackson who wanted to cut President Obama’s nuts off? He can’t get away from that. Quite frankly Jackson is jealous as hell of the President, and doesn’t hide it too well.

These black people are turning out to stab the President in the back, Jesse Jackson is so darn jealous of President Obama it’s ashame. These people like Jackson and Waters are just helping the GOP out, what ashame.

I’m black and I am really disgusted in Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson, and the others who need to realize the enemy is the Tea Republicans, and we should be fighting them, not fighting our President.

From what I could tell Jackson seems to be the shit stirrer. It wasn’t as bad as I expected, the audience is angry, rightfully. They keep saying they must re-elect President Obama. Seems to be alot of ‘typical’ pandering going on here.

I so prefer President Obama’s approach to politics and these types of interfaces with the public. I wish more elected officials would find the courage to take his lead. That is what is takes, courage to risk doing things differently, courage to be the change.

My understanding is as a State Senator in Illinois some of his strongest critics and adversaries were African Americans. Resentment and jealousy are corrosive emotions, and usually self-defeating.

Well, that was not a joyful cry, that was a’Oh, how come you did it, and I could not get it?” He is a shameful man IMO. Jesse can join Howard and share the two cookies and glass of warm milk and go shut up. We are not going to allow these circus clowns mess up the rides of support, joy, hardwork, and respect for the President. Let them play in their you know what and stir all they want to. At one point, the pot is going to get tired and spill out on them. What a sight and smell that will be. Karma is a bad thing to play with in this life.

ROFLMAO! Jon Hunstman is sooo desperate, that he will say just about anything to get some attention that might beef up his dismal numbers…

First of all, just this weekend he calls out some of his GOP primary opponents as “extreme” candidates who may be “unelectable.” For example, he specifically attacks Bachman by saying that he wouldn’t necessarily trust her economic policies.

And then now he says that he is open to being the VP on any Repub candidate’s ticket – even Michelle Bachman’s. http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2011/08/22/jon-huntsman-says-he-could-run-as-michele-bachmanns-vp-candidate/

So now his ambition is to be VP on someone elses ticket?
This guy is as wishy washy as he is boring. And most importantly, he is not consistent.

He isn’t. He is a coward.

That has always been his goal, to be V.P!!!
The man is too LAZY for the hardwork the Presidency entails, but he wants the glory of unearned high title and glorified self-importance!!!

He is now positioning himself as the “rational”, “moderate” one to the others so that he can get on the ticket to appeal to the “moderates”!!!

That is why senior McCain campaign advisers and strategists who were working for Hunstman originally, are dumping his ass and moving on!!! They realize that the man is just a selfserving, lazy opportunist who does not have what it takes to be president and is just looking for a moment in the spotlight!!! No substance and even the act he puts on is such an inauthentic FLOP!!!

  16. August 22, 2011 at 8:07 pm

The craptastic bullshittery going on at the CBC townhall is just freaking unbelievable. the hashtag is #cbctownhall if you want to see what’s being said but the nail in the coffin for me and the CBC is when Maxine Waters demanded that the WH rep (Graves?) say, “tea party” and “black” AS IF the White House is ignoring both. AS IF saying those WORDS gets something done. This is no different than when the GOP called Obama weak on defense because he didn’t say “terrorism” enough. How did that work out? Then Jesse-I-Want-To-Cut-His-Nuts-Off Jackson has the AUDACITY to say that they (CBC, Black Leaders) want to help him win and those close to Prez. Obama want to help him lose. Gee, would those be the elitist know-it-all Jews Cornel West was referring to?

If after seeing this town hall, no one sees why Prez Obama keeps his distance from these people, then I don’t what will make them see it.

Oh and they made the WH rep say that he’ll take the CBC legislation to the WH. You get that? Not to Nancy Pelosi or other House leaders. Not to John Boehner but to the WH.

    • August 22, 2011 at 8:15 pm

And then someone in crowd apparently yells at Graves regarding the President: “does he know racism!?” OMG, that is just truly ugly.

        • August 22, 2011 at 8:19 pm

That was a sick question and the CBC and their friends are feeding them the lie that Obama is not Black enough and doesn’t like Black people.

They have access to the president. They are members of Congress. What they want is to be in his inner circle.

The President meets with the CBC regularly and they know it. You can look at past online schedules of his and you will see he meets with all the caucuses regularly. Gobrooklyn is right—they are not in the inner circle and they want the access Rev. Al and Clyburn have had but the President doesn’t trust them. They also complained in the past about not getting invites to a lot of the WH receptions. Bottom line, they don’t have the access they had with the Clintons. Their only weapon to strike back—the media.

What’s been going on??? Heard Amy Winehouse died, a debt limit deadl was made but our credit rating was lowered and Gaddafi still isn’t dead. I’ve been itching to get on here for weeks to talk to my Obama Diary fam. I hope everyone had a good summer, it certainily has been an eventful one for me (two words: BEAST week. Look it up if you don’t know). I made it though and I’m out this joint in a week, literally. I’m too scared to go on Facebook so I’m sharing all this info with you that I normally would to my FB friends. I’m literally itching to see my folks and be treated like a normal person not like a “freakin’ stinkin’ freakin’ stinkin trainee” (as my MTI likes to say). But seriously this is an interesting and eventful time for me and I’m definitely going to look back and smile. I’m going to Keesler AFB in Mississippi on Monday for Tech School (Knowledge Operations Management). I’m looking forward to that so much. Strating next Monday or Tuesday I’ll be on here like everyday. Ok, well my time is up. See ya latas, next time you hear from me i’ll be an Airman 1st Class. Peace out
