I find it shameful that these GOP reps won’t hold meetings with the people who live in his district. Mercer Isl, WA is a very wealthy area so it is probably mostly GOP and he will get re-elected easily. The comment section mentioned the background of the Working WA group but not the Teabagger group.

I hope everyone is happy to see our first lady. I won’t post here some of the crazy comments I have read about her being MIA. She deserves some private time with her husband and girls before it all starts again. The best first family ever.

      Thank you Sonjia.

I don’t recall all this excessive scrutiny and speculation about Laura Bush when she was out of the public eye for months at a time. This is just plain ridiculous. What next – media getting dressed in khaki outfits with spy glasses hiding in the bushes to stalk the First Family? Jake Tapper wants to know what books Sasha and Malia bought at the bookstore. He is determined to find out and tells us to “stay tuned.”

Sheesh, now I can finally get a good night’s sleep, knowing that my boy Jake is doing the serious work of investigating what books the first daughters bought on that August summer morn of 2011.

It is a sign of sheer desperation that critics of FLOTUS have to go to such lengths to find something, anything to criticize about her. Their critiques are petty and silly. But therein lies the problem. She frustrates the hell out of them because she is such an outstanding woman and role model. In their heart of hearts her critics know that, but they will never admit it. Instead they satisfy themselves by wallowing in their disgusting comments and trying to convince themselves that they are better than she is.

Good Morning Kasai and my TOD Family,

I love the ad also. When I first saw a part of it on tv, I thought how great it would be for communities all over the country could have neighbor, towns, and cities where they would seet the tables winding around the street or blocks within some town and cities of all diverse people sharing meals and conversations. Each familiy or maybe a sponsor would provide the linen, the silverware, flowers from gardens, homes, local florits and just have a An Elegant Evening’ of conversation, meeting each other and partaking of great food dishes from all the diversity within the communities. I could really do that one and really enjoy helping pull this type of coming together for our nation.

This is what I sent CBS (I went a little overboard with the hyperbole, but who cares):

Absolutely horrendous hit job on President Obama this morning by the fool representing your program. President Obama is much loved among the people in our country, and much respected. We are behind him 100%. How dare you do such lazy journalism – following the meme du jour, slanting your comments, and allowing the interviewer and narrator to be heard more in the clip than our President. We didn’t watch to hear you. The only positive comment allowed was from the American from the Midwest, who stood up and told President Obama, “I am not disappointed in you.” I will never watch your program again, and I am very disappointed in CBS.

    • August 21, 2011 at 12:52 pm

      This is my comment.

I watched all the Town Halls from the president’s bus tour and the cuts and snippets used in the interview were totally misleading. This shoddy and deceptive editing is just one reason people have started getting their news elsewhere because the filtering has become dishonest and it’s only done to enhance the interviewer’s story line. The questions the president was asked at these town halls proved one thing and that’s the American public are more informed than the media gives them credit for. In fact these questions were more intelligent and in-dept than what I’ve heard in a long time. If there was anger from these folks the anger was directed at the political circus that has been taking place in DC since the new congress was seated and Washington inability to get things done on the economy.

If there was a narrative taken from these town halls it would be, that the American people are more informed and plugged in than ever.

Great. Now Peggy Noonan is renewing the meme that no one loves President Obama. I’m sorry but this woman is a fucked up hateful bitch. I watched her this morning on MTP and the level of hate and I mean HATE that she has for President Obama is scary. The hate that bleeds from her columns is one thing, the hate that bleeds through the tv is disgusting and scary. It’s not about his policies for her; it’s the fact that we have a BLACK PRESIDENT who occupies the same office as her lover saint Ronnie. She kept saying he’s a pathetic loser, a weak person and a weak leader. She said that all Presidents have a core 20% who always love them, but President Obama is such a pathetic loser that he can’t even engender that slim minority. Savannah Guthrie – who was an idiot this morning by blaming everything on President Obama, not wanting to talk about republicans in congress, allowed Mitch Daniels to lie about his fiscal policies and record as GWB’s OMB Director, and whined about President Obama taking a vacation when Reagan took a 25 day vacation with 9.5% unemployment – at least called out Peggy a little bit by saying that she sounded like a 5 year old bully that every child on the playground had to endure while growing up. Methinks Peggy Noonan needs to get laid but fortunately or unfortunately, no man will ever get close to fucking her because she is radioactive toxic waste. And no amount of batteries will convince any vibrator to work because her vagina is a breeding ground for HATE! ArrrrrrGGGHHHHHHH….. she was sooooo HATEFUL and EVIL. Conservative women can such hateful bitches.

      August 21, 2011 at 12:14 pm

The term “pathetic loser” sounds like something a 13-year old would say about a boy she doesn’t like. That’s the level at which Ms. Noonan is operating. Middle-school antics. And the MSM is not embarassed about advertising to the world America’s disgustingly stunted emotional development via these so-called pundits.

her being racist….is par…the MSM allowing it to go unchallenged is a big concern…but just as the Republicans showed their true colors during the debt debate….these folks are showing where they stand as well….

what i like when i see these protests …is the people moputhing the president’s talking points…

we can get our fiscal house in order and spur job growth….and move the economy….and that we need a balanced approach to fiscal responsibility

that it is time for the super rich to pay their fair share of taxes….

i hope that the President talks directly to the people…..asks us once again…to do our part…to help him get things done…i hope that he makes going out and speaking directly to the American people a regular occurence….we need to his voice unfiltered by the press and talking heads…

Oh Ut! I always love your recap. Just thinking of that hateful evil sociopath turn my stomach. Oh yes I remember when she wrote that President Obama was a loser and she was on MJ the next day I think spewing her lies. She’s vile.
I don’t know how many tweets I sent her that day. I was appalled .

Here I just copied something she wrote about George Bush before his reelection, so we’re talking close to 4 years into his awful presidency.

Mr. Bush is the triumph of the seemingly average American man. He’s normal. He thinks in a sort of common-sense way. He speaks the language of business and sports and politics. You know him. He’s not exotic. But if there’s a fire on the block, he’ll run out and help. He’ll help direct the rig to the right house and count the kids coming out and say, “Where’s Sally?”

He’s responsible. He’s not an intellectual. Intellectuals start all the trouble in the world.

I still can’t believe that there’s not a national movement to boycott advertisers. Nothing will ever change in the corrupt media. There’s always going to be a RW spin to every stories.

So by buying the products of the sponsors, we’re paying the salaries of David Gregory, Ratigan, Pat Buchanan, Chuck Todd, Crowley, John King and all the rest. The only supporter of the president on all networks is Rev. Al, the only one with no contract, and being a supporter doesn’t mean you agree on everything, the difference is that you don’t question the President’s motives or his integrity, you don’t lie, you don’t spin, you state facts.
Rev. Al does that perfectly, the only one. Freaking shame.

@colorofchange and @stopbeck, along w/his followers, IS the reason Glen Beck lost his job at Fox…

By the way, Beck was fired because he lost all his show’s sponsors, his show’s ratings were low, etc. 😉 😆

Now, @stopbeck, who was hired by @mmfa, is workin’, w/@mmfa, to “bring down” Murdoch/Ailes’ Fox “News,” the communications/PR/propaganda arm of the TeaPUBLICAN Party. (Since Jan ’09, Fox “News” has disrespected PBHO and the Office of the Presidency, 24/7, 365 days a year….Grrr!)

RT @stopbeck: @mmfa – “You can help hold the media accountable for right-wing misinformation by spreading the word about @mmfa’s efforts or sharing your ideas w/us.”

It’s not Fox that bothers me, it’s a propaganda machine, RW network, everybody knows that. It’s the OTHER networks that bother the hell out of me because MSNBC is view as left leaning and CNN as kind of neutral and it’s BS, lies lies lies.

I would like to know what’s the difference between Fox and Friends and Morning Joe in the morning. Just lies, distortion, setting the narrative for the day of how much the President sucks.

It’s the same as FOX, corporate owned, there’s no difference, RW spin, different tone when they interview a D versus a R. The regular ‘,analysts’ to represent the ”left” on MSNBC are all puma, emoprogs. It’s disgusting.

I don’t know why they should focus on Fox only.

utaustinliberal – I admire your spunk and dedication to President Obama.

I’m a grandmother, and sometimes I hesitate making grandmotherly comments here! But since I have a granddaughter in college, I’ll address this to her, rather than sounding all preachy to you.

On our political blogs, when we make crude comments about the sexual habits or needs of women in politics or even in other fields who are on the national stage, we cheapen the argument and we degrade all women. While much of what is written here runs through many of our minds – for instance, if we get frosted enough about the likes of a Peggy Noonan, whom I would like to have my own little chat with – we really should keep that to ourselves. We need to have a conversation about these people that makes them take responsibility for their words and vitriol, and lets them know we will not stand for it.

Recently, Gloria Steinem was interviewed on HLN by Joy Behar. While Ms. Steinem, a feminist icon of my era, clearly has absolutely no regard for candidate Michele Bachmann, she said that we still need to strive to be careful in how we confront our women politicians. She said we still need to be fair, so they will have a level playing field (secret message I heard: in which to fail all by themselves).

I’m as guilty as anyone when male Republicans start bashing gays and I want to immediately question their own sexual identity, so I will try to examine my own conscience and do better, as well.

Why is it a problem for Nora O’donnall to point out that the President mentioned jobs in his speeches 171 times? I am genuinely puzzled because many of his critics, on the left, accuse the President of not focusing on jobs. As Freud said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar” and when someone gives us a handy number to use, we should use it to our advantage, instead of complaining about it.

When we see everything as an attack against the President, we feed the meme that it’s the President against the world.

      • 78 utaustinliberal
        August 21, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Her tweet was a problem because she was continuing the meme from this morning on Face The Nation, that all President Obama does is give speech after speech that mentions jobs, but he never does anything about it. She pretty much said he is all talk but no action. If you had watched the show, you would realize that. And if you had seen the sarcastic tweet Mark Knoller put out to which she sarcastically replied to, then you would realize why it is a problem.

A good article: Obama is Already One of America’s Greatest Presidents

…Name another president who came into power with nearly every bank and scores of major U.S. corporations facing bankruptcy. Name another president who walked into a housing market that had 1 in 4 American mortgage holders underwater and literally millions losing their homes in foreclosure.

Name another president who walked in to month after month of over 500K job losses. Name another president who walked in to two unpaid for ground wars that were poorly run and creating chaos in our image across the world. Name another president who had to deal with the worst oil spill in U.S, history and a crashing stock market.

What Obama needs most is a second term so he can free himself from the grind of campaigning and raising money to share more of his heart. Obama is a great president because of his pure heart—a heart that is sometimes clouded because of exterior forces or political expediency. But it’s still there.
He remains a thoughtful, effective and pragmatic leader with a pure heart.

Yes, he’s already one of America’s greatest presidents and we need to give him the chance to finish what he started.

Thanks anonymous for this comment and the link. I totally agree that Obama is one of the greatest President in my lifetime. I know people mention FDR, but I never personally experienced FDR’s regime. I have however studied FDR. There is no doubt that he was a great President, but he was far from being perfect. As the author of the article you linked to stated, it took FDR more than 12 years to finally end the Depression and high unemployment. He was finally able to break the grip of the depression because of the total mobilization for WWII. Besides, unlike President Obama who had to deal with a severe Economic situation on top of two wars, FDR only had to focus on the Depression in his two terms in office. Moreover, FDR never faced an angry opposition party vowing to make him a one term president, or an angry 24-7 media, from both his left and his right, as well as the MSM, criticizing and second guessing every move he made. In spite of the monumental problems he faced from day one of his presidency, and in spite of the relentless attacks from the left, right and MSM, President Obama has been a steady, calm, determined, and focused President. He has tackled big problems, like Healthcare, that had defied past Presidents. He has responsibly began to end one of the wars he inherited. More importantly, he was able to prevent the country from going into a depression. He did all these things while continuing to treat his opponents with respect, even though many of them treated him disrespectfully; above all, he has kept his faith in the goodness of the American people. It is true that he has not solved all the problems he inherited (many of which, I might add, have been around for decades). But no honest person can accuse him of not working hard to try to fix problems, both in the short term, and in laying the foundation for long range solutions. I am proud to have voted for President OIbama. I also think the majority of Americans who voted for President Obama deserve to be commended for their foresight in choosing a great man, with the right temperament, to lead the country in these most difficult times.

Hi Collegekay. I wish you the very best for the school year. I also hope that you will enjoy and take in as much as you can celebrating the Dr. Martin L. King Jr Memorial Ceremony. What a part of this wonderful history to see for yourself so take it in with pride, and joy. This is an exciting time to express gratitude to the movement. Have a great school year. Yes, there will be disappointments, I am sure, but just please do not give up. It will be worth it, trust me. It is the deep elements of your core being that will give you the peace in the end. These will keep you grounded with hope that will be with us forever as long as we find the vessel for that beautiful hope to dwell in. Leave your vessel wide open, and just maybe that Hope that is still alive will find a beautiful home to thrive on success, compassion for others, intellect that will match the greatest, and love that will carry and lift up millions. Have a great time and year. Blessings to you. HZ

A must read from Prof. Juan Cole about the Tripoli uprising: http://www.juancole.com/2011/08/the-great-tripoli-uprising.html

It might even assuage StR’s fears! 😉

I’m watching all this, LL. AJ is covering it and Sky News is doing a fantastic job with a female reporter, Alex, on the front line. I’ve been too shy to say much on this blog, feeling more like a guest than a regular so far.

It is bizarre in Tripoli right now – no resistance coming into the city. Our guys have taken over a military base with all the weapons and ammunition. There was one terrible battle last night with a lot of casualties and now the army appears to have faded away except for some snipers.

I am beginning to wonder if Gaddafi is even in Tripoli any more?! They are only about 3 miles from the center of the city and the leaders are deciding whether to attack Gaddafi’s compound tonight. Tripoli Tom, the propaganda man with the funny beard, might be the only one left.

            • August 21, 2011 at 4:51 pm

So I’m following Twitter, and it’s amazing that there are still apologists for the Gaddafi regime plying their trade. Russia Today had a report that not only is Tripoli not falling, but that Gaddafi had entered Misrata. So the Sky News reporter in the convoy entering Tripoli is part of a Western misinformation campaign. *smh*

And Al Jazeera Arabic is reporting that Saif and Saadi Gaddafi have been arrested.

Something bad is happening in Russia. I think Putin has taken over again and it is not good for the rest of us. That worries me. Why he has suddenly decided to go over to the dark side and what he hopes to accomplish is a puzzle.

Thanks Kasai. You inspire all of us. I live in an area where there are a lot of rocks/stones, so I am going out and make a ‘Stones of Hope’ in one of my planters that is on my back patio. I can look at this from my dining and kitchen windows to keep focus on some of the goodness in people , myself, Dr. King’s movemnet, John Lewis, and our President. My energy goes there today. It is a lovely Sunday to give grateful prayers, quiet words, meditations, and poetic words that will keep us to continue going as a family. Lord knows that we will need it for these next coming months. Let us fill our vessels with the best of grace given to us daily. Remember ‘Stones of Hope.’

We will stand with our President. He knows that we love him. He just said the other day, that he knows that we have his back. These people do not read excellent books written by people who went to school with President Obama, were his professors, and some are now his best friends. These are the people that I try to get my hands on the books about my President. Plus, listen to one who knows him best, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, our beautiful and intelligent First Lady. Ms. No nothing does not know President Obama. It is so apparent. Listen to what she says about him. Now, we know that those are lies. So this is a very unhappy, most evil(yes I said it), and very hateful person. We will not take those seeds of bitterness, jealous mean spirited words of destruction into our hearts. (They are destroying her) We have a beautiful seed given to us at this time, so let us keep planting more of those beautiful seeds for generations to come, and let the sweetest and mosst kind spirits continue to water his seeds by the grace of God. Sure, this does not stop us from calling Ms. No Nothing about our President, but we will not take in her hateful energy. It hurts, it pains people, it drains the hope out of children, families, and older people who still have beautiful and bright lights of hope and great work to help this beautiful President, Barack Obama move with vision, compassion, so much brilliance for the nation and the world do his job. And oh, he is doing it inspite of the evil going against him daily. We pray hard for him and we will make it. I believe it in my heart. I love you al so very much.HZ

I won’t be e-mailing or tweeting Peggy Noonan or anyone on the talk shows. I don’t want them to think I care what they say or that they are relevant to anyone else other than the Washington DC /NY clique to which they owe their membership. I don’t want them to think their opinion affects my decisions. I don’t want them to think they are important or to know that I would take a minute of my life to sound off about them or to them.

I can’t help but think about how smart they are. {snark…I mean corrupt} They ignored Watergate until after the re-election of Nixon. They reported on Whitewater and Travelgate as if they were real scandals, but Reagan’s Iran-Contra scandal got a free pass. They defended the Iraq war and thought Fred Thomson was the GOP savior in 2008. They fawn over Sarah Palin & Michele Bachmann and defend them against anti-feminist remarks, but denigrated Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton. They promote the Tea Party as a legitimate grassroots movement but won’t show the dark underbelly & corruption within it while ignoring the real grassroots in GOP controlled states.

They know and understand torture is torture and illegal but discuss it like it’s a policy decision equal to school uniforms. They report on the articles written in the Post & NYT as if they read them, but then hide the fact that those papers reported Bush shut down the OBL desk at the CIA and then drag out all the Bushies to take credit for the capture & killing of the world’s most wanted terrorist trying to deprive this President of his victory.

I won’t forgive them for driving the narrative that the POTUS is responsible for congress’s job, but won’t call out the GOP leadership for the immaturity, irrationality, irresponsibility and anti-intellectualism of the new GOP congress.

I am stymied why anyone would still believe anything they say.
