Good to hear those words as I worry about him and his family having to ordeal all of the negativity for us. I almost feel guilty for wanting him to run for a second term at times. It helps me hear him say he is okay and surviving.

Great clip. I can understand (sort of) disagreeing with his policies, but I truly fail to understand the people who think he is evil. I don’t remember another president, even those I liked, who was as honest, smart, and open.

The requirement of a thick skin disqualifies Bachmann and the quitter. Oh well.

It’s really nice to know that the President is taking everything in his stride and persevering a midst so much venom being thrown his way. Reading history about other Presidents and comparing notes is a perfect way of dealing with the madness that surrounds him. This video is very reassuring for us who are concerned about him and who loves and supports him that he is OK and he shall persevere to the end. Bravo Mr. President! My prayers and goodwill will always be with you.

Good, Mr. President, I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve got a very thick skin. But, at the same time, you feel deeply about the people you lead. I can see you holding back a three or four year old who’s furious at not getting something he wanted very badly and screaming “I hate you! I hate You!” while uttering calming words., trying avoid a meltdown. We’ve all gone through this if we’ve had children. They all manage to hate us at one time or another, whenever we’d had to lay down the law.

Dealing with recalcitrance takes patience, yes, but a thick skin really, really helps!

He developed it when he was a boy in Indonesia. PBO has that hard outer shell that deflects the slings, stings and arrows and protects the soft center of compassion, empathy and love. The media folks and other enemies want to see him cry or whine in frustration so that they can feel that they scored against him. It is all a stupid game that he has no time for. They keep lying by telling him constantly that he is loosing his base, that he has disappointed supporters, or that he is hated. He and anyone paying only a little attention knows better. It is because he is loved world-wide, and fiercely supported that they lie so much and try to hurt him. They cannot seem to realize that he is exactly who he says he is and that he means exactly what he says. He has been so consistent in his views because he means and believes what he says; something that seldom happens with politicians. It gets so old. You would think that the media would give it up and go on to something more constructive.

Yes, yes, and yes. He got a lot of learning while In Indonesia, hard, cold, ummmm, what a way to go, but look at him now, he’s running the Country, carry on President Obama, carry on, you make me proud 😀 😀

Again, all I’m seeing is the white space. Anyone else? I never had this problem here until about a week ago where now about every 3 postings are just blank and white. Sob.

    • August 21, 2011 at 5:32 pm

Dotser, are you using Internet Explorer? Could you try looking at the video in Firefox and see if it works? Sorry about this 😦

        August 21, 2011 at 7:59 pm

I use firefox. Never had a problem here, and have no problems elsewhere, until about a week, 10 days ago. Now I regularly get the white space.

        • August 21, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Thanks Dotser. I use Firefox too and even when I log out I have no problems at all – can’t figure it out.

As I mentioned earlier – WordPress’s support page (http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/) suggests clearing caches as one possible solution:

If you are experiencing problems displaying WordPress.com pages, clearing the browser cache is a good first step to try to resolve the issue. If that doesn’t help, you should also try clearing the browser cookies. Instructions for clearing cache and cookies are different for each browser and version. Google has outlined the steps for all major browsers – see here:

Do you want to give that a try Dotser?

I too am only seeing a white space for this thread and a few others, I thought it was only my computer but I see I am not the only one. At least I can see the comments and get a good idea about the post.

      • August 21, 2011 at 5:41 pm

Hiya Sam, flip – more and more people are having that problem and WordPress still haven’t replied to my plea for help! What browser are you using Sam? Whenever I’ve contacted them in the past about similar problems they’ve usually blamed Internet Explorer for all the woes (!) – or they’ve suggested that people haven’t upgraded their Adobe flash thingie (technical language alert). I’m clueless about this! 😦

I am using internet explorer. I am a complete idiot when it comes to technical things. Will have a word with my brother in law re changing browsers and see if that makes any difference.

Thank you so much Chipsticks for your reply and for all you do for all of us who support President Obama.

Same for me and I’m using Firefox. White space.

      • August 21, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Thanks ChristiMtl – it gets worse! I was clinging to the hope that it was just an IE problem. I’ll get on to WordPress Support again and hopefully this time they’ll get back to me QUICKLY!

        • August 21, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Another suggestion — I did have lots of problems with I.E., but changed browsers to ‘Google Chrome’ and no longer have
anywhere near the problems I was getting with I.E. Might give it a try. :l)

BTW, A big THANKS to you for this great blog — I don’t comment much, but am here several times — every day. Love it.

          • August 21, 2011 at 6:53 pm

Thanks so much for that bojoflo, really appreciate it.

IE definitely seems to have the most issues with WordPress, but I know other browsers are having problems too. Because the site is working fine for most people I’m guessing it’s not a problem at this end??

WordPress’s support page (http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/) suggests clearing caches as one possible solution:

Each time you access a web page, your web browser stores a temporary copy of the files needed to display the web page to you. Those temporary files are called the browser cache. If your cache is not updating properly or if it’s stuck, you could be viewing an older version of some of the supporting files.

I hope that might help some (all!) of you.

I’m on Safari and it’s happening to me to. I did try to clear my cache and cookies, but it didn’t work. Of course I could have done it wrong. I looked into updating my safari to the latest upgrade, but it will not work on the MacBook I have.

Thank goodness for his really thick skin. I’ve always thought that in times such as these, we couldn’t have asked for a better President who is smart as a whip, logical, pragmatic, warm, compassionate, and above all very even tempered. I sure couldn’t do what he does day in and day out; especially with the media hell hole we have.

I thank God that he loves this country so much, that he allowed a man like President Obama to become president at this time when he is so needed. I hope and pray that he will allow him a second term so that he can continue the work that needs to be done, and maybe, God willing get to enjoy the role of president

    • August 21, 2011 at 6:20 pm

Yeah, but where’s the transcript UTALib? This is the first time I’ve ever had to seek a review of the President’s words. 😉 [I seem to be getting a white box more and more frequently, though I’m pleased that the comments aat least are clear…. and wait! So are the video clips added into the comment section. Is this helpful information, Chips? and yes I’m an IE participant.]

I’ll listen to it later the live streaming from Tripoli is just amazing. The Freedom Fighters are winning. The guy that is talking is saying of course it won’t be smooth but they do have plans for the future. It won’t be total chaos.

  11. August 21, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Every time you hear someone squealing about Obama should FIGHT MORE – or whatever they’re spewing…….

Remind them that MLK, Nelson Mandela, and Ghandi, were also the ADULT in the room. They never became, or embraced the crazy. They remained the constant, calm, rational leader. And none of them were PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Becoming the crazy doesn’t help, it just adds more crazy. Staying calm MARGINALIZES the crazy.

I like to consider that he occupies an enormous place in our hearts, so much so it transcends the physical, it is spiritual.

My sensitivities to the harsh, relentless and so often baseless criticism he endures everday, challenge me. It is only somewhat comforting to realize that it is the very force of his nature that inspires those he threatens most to respond so relentlessly, and with such blind devotion.
But it is a signal to me that they in fact recognize in him his gifts and his potential to nullify their power and alter the status quo.

I am trying to imagine the disconnect that he observes between those that oppose him and attempt to stand in his way, and those he encounters face to face that admire, support and delight in him. It’s so schizophrenic. He has to be secure in himself not to let them unravel him. I look at the visual evidence of the people surrounding him and what I see is trust, and inspired happiness and joy. It makes such liars of the MSM, I am actually embarrassed for them.

Imagine if he had been met with cooperation and a willingness to resolve our issues upon taking office, where we might find ourselves today.

PBO said he had faith in the American People so that is how I am going to TRY to get through this election. I don’t know a single person who has withdrawn their support for PBO…In fact, I think he has picked up support from the few Repubs left with a brain….I actually know a few….I’m beginning to think that all the hate filled talk is from a very few people who are seeking publicity…are they doing damage? Yes….Should we call them out on it? Yes….but the Michael Moores, Jane H., Dan Choi, Maxine Waters, and others are just jealous and furious with PBO b/c he didn’t bow down to them….Think about it….how many people do you ACTUALLY know that have withdrawn their support?

As I watched coverage of Libya, a reporter for Al Jazeera was discussing the statements made today by Gaddafi himself and his spokesman. She was asked how the people responded and then described how they felt toward the lies and continued demonization of anyone who opposed the regime. She described reactions of revulsion and complete disbelief. I have been feeling that more and more toward the Right over the last two years but now I am having those same reactions to those on the Left that persist in demonizing and marginalizing the President and the efforts of his administration.

I remember very early in the 2007-08 primary campaign, Michelle said in response to a question about dirty campaigns and the decision to run – “Believe me, we’ve heard everything that can be said about us.” And I believe this. Despite their gracious nature, they are tough. They’ve heard every nasty thing that can be said about them. And they still commit themselves to public service, to our future.

  18. August 21, 2011 at 9:28 pm

A thick skin and a poker face, smh ☺….meanwhile in Libya……

  19. August 21, 2011 at 9:56 pm

I believe he does have a thick skin. I imagine he knew what he was getting into–and how the hate would bubble up from some of those far right wing types. I am glad to hear him say he is doing OK. It takes a real man to deal with the crap that comes his way. Those that want him to resort to the same tactics as his opponents areen’t going to get their way. He will remain a man of principle. I just want Michelle to know how much we love her too. Peggy Noonen is out to lunch!
