‘obama’s vacation ripped …. but he’s taken less time off than bush’

Chicago Sun Times: Is there ever really a good time for the president to go on vacation? President Barack Obama’s 10-day summer getaway from Washington to Martha’s Vineyard – scheduled to start Thursday – has reignited a seemingly annual debate.

…. Mark Knoller of CBS, the unofficial keeper of presidential work schedules, reported that President George W. Bush had taken more time off than Obama at this point in his first term.

Obama’s upcoming vacation is his ninth vacation since taking office. Obama has spent all or part of 38 days on vacation away from the White House. He has also made 14 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 32 days, for a total of 70 days, Knoller said.

Bush, at this point in his first term, had made 14 visits to his Texas ranch spanning all or part of 102 days, Knoller said. He also made 40 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 123 days. His vacation total at this point in his presidency was all or part of 225 days away….

He does more in a day than those idiots do, well, in their LIVES. I’ll be across the Bay from him in P-Town next week. Have a wonderful vacation, my awesome POTUS.

And TODers, if you haven’t caught the excitement over at TPV, I’d suggest you check it out. Our friend Deaniac is breaking through! My ferevent wish has been that the PL would cease being the accepted mouthpiece for Progressives – we may be getting there.

Hi Chipsticks. I love your blog and read it at least once a day though I never participate in the discussions.

Does anyone know the brand name of the checked shirts the President likes to wear and where one can get one?

Thanks and keep up the good work guys.

Ben, welcome, glad you visit, love hearing your voice. Call the White House staff…maybe they can find out for you.

Faconnable makes beautiful, mens and womens shirts, very tailored, beautiful fabrics…kinda pricey (150.00 for a women’s shirt….women typically are charged higher prices for their clothes than men ) but very well made, and because they are traditional seem to endure the fashion cycles. I just saw on Google that Target may carry some of their clothing line….who knew. I choose not to shop at Target because of local politics….wish it were different, because I always liked their selection, and their attention to current trends.

And the media keeps on harping on about the Gallup poll which shows PBO handling of the economy at an all time low.

The media so wants a Republican President, so they can make money off of headlines “PBO Defeated” and all that.

And it seems the professional left also wants a Republican President, they keep on bitching about Obama capitulating, being spineless, sounding like a Republican, too aloof, all while doing NOTHING!

At least the Teapugs got off their asses and voted last November, they got their Teapugs the House and a bunch of governorships across the nation. These firebaggers keep talking about electing more progressive Dems, where the hell were they last November when Alan Grayson and Russ Feingold, their heroes, were SOUNDLY DEFEATED?

PBO deserves this vacation time, as does his family, but the media, teapugs and firebaggers just won’t stop attacking him! I mean how come they won’t focus their attacks on the Teapugs in the House who have not passed a single jobs bill and continue to demand that PBO bail them out?

    I’m flat out DISGUSTED!

I am having a good day today, none of this MSM hyperbole is getting to me. I am sure it is because I spent time on the phone this morning making my voice heard. I also think the last three days have been very inspiring and reassurring. Being exposed to real people, in real time, in real places…not the alternate reality created on cable sets and propoganda networks, brings welcomed perspective and balance to the picture.

The President says that Michelle is fit and we know she is, but these leaps onto to stages, looks pretty good to me. He loves to pull our leg. This man is awesome! 😀

Mr.President if all the people who need down time is you.Enjoy all the rest you can get because you have reached and prodded the Greed Over People Party to put country first. Dealing with a bunch of turnip heads that are airheads also can wear a man out. So spend the time the way you want and tune out the voices in the wind.

Everyone in the media keeps bitching about his vacation. But they won’t bitch about the fact that Congress is taking more than a month long vacation. They never bitch about the fact that republicans changed the schedule so they worked for less time and had more free days.

One more thing: Maxine Waters is an all out BITCH. She’s been on every program on MSNBC bitching about President Obama and riling up poor frustrated out of work African Americans and other minorities, so that they’re yelling obscenities at the President. Shame on her! WTF has she done for the black community. WTF has the CBC done for the black community except scam them! The CBC keep complaining that their jobs bills are being rejected, yet they aren’t in any relevant committees. They only have 2 members in the Education Committee and 2 members in the Budget committee, yet they want to make PBO their whipping boy. They can all collectively go fuck themselves!

      August 18, 2011 at 1:45 pm

Maxine Waters wants attention and she knows the formula to get it: bitch about the President.

What the fuck has SHE done besides bitch? She’s a Rep and is in more of a position to put forth legislation than President Obama is, but once again she wants HIM to bail her lazy ass out.

If I were in PBO’s shoes, I’d tell her ass to shut up, do her damned job as a Rep, and quit being so damned lazy!

Hear, hear ut. No need to get your skivvies twisted up. Maxine is in the same boat with Allen West. Besides it a diversion from certain investigations.

Tamron Hall just announced Waters will be appearing on her program also—–it’s an all out assault. It’s like shooting yourself in the head, it’s that stupid. And the media is the most joyous when they can feature an African American who is slamming Obama. They lay down the welcome mat and roll out the red carpet. And these members of the CBC have foolishly decided to feed the sharks.

        August 18, 2011 at 2:19 pm

I bet Waters and Conyers, etc get primary challenges…what she has been doing is insulting to the community, Pres Obama is not the problem. He even praised the CBC tour in a statement Aug 8 and sent HUD Sec Donovan to the first stop so the admin supports this tour yet they rip him and want to be “unleashed” against him…stunning. I Waters wants to know what PBO is doing she should look at WH website…their are a lot of initiatives and grants that have been announced for distress

It seems to me that a high profile AA government representative of the people complaining loudly about the first Black President will not only reduce PBO’s chances of winning re-election, but will reduce the chances of future AA’s in running for President. It also feeds into the opposition party’s message and is just plain foolish. Try helping not just complaining! Maxine, you are hurting your people and misinforming them. YOU are the problem!

It is such a pointless, stupid, non-issue.

President Obama and the entire Obama family enjoy yourselves in all the ways you choose to. No one deserves a vacation more. Thank you for all you sacrifice that is personal and dear to serve the larger American family. We are graced and blessed by your dedication to us. Now go have some FUN.

I have no idea what the fuck has gotten into Maxine. Maybe I need to drive over the hill and take the woman to lunch. Maybe I can talk Cher into coming with me, and having her tell Maxine, “SNAP OUT OF IT.”

As for PBO’s vacation – this whole manufactured outrage over Martha’s Vineyard is laughable. WTF? Have they ever BEEN to Martha’s Vineyard? It’s not the millionaire/star-studded Bel Aire East they’re making it out to be. It’s more of an über-boring version of Catalina, with even less to do.

Every building in Edgartown looks exactly the same. Because they have to. (yawn)

Why are the Obama’s there? Because it has more for the girls to do (like a beach) than Camp David, and it’s cheaper than going to Hawaii.

Why do people continue to let the GOP-owned media tell them what they should think and feel about everything?

Anyone who as actually been to Martha’s Vineyard (and doesn’t already own property there) would feel more sorry for the first family than angry with them. If I had a choice I’d be in Hawaii, and I won’t be heartbroken if I never set foot on the Vineyard ever again.

All the “Wall Street billionaires, millionaire hedge-fund mangers and other celebrities” are all in The Hamptons on Long Island, not Martha’s Boring Vineyard.

as I have said, I have communicated only one response to those bitching about President’s vacation:

“The time when a black man worked without rest and vacation are long gone. President Obama is NOT your slave you haters”

Slavery is over. A man/woman works hard and this is followed by a time of rest. we should not expect different for the President who happens to be black

President Obama and his family are entitled to their vacation. He works his butt off for us and needs some down time. Anyway, the job follows him and he is constantly in touch. And with Congress in recess, nothing much is happening in Washington, D.C., except for hordes of summer tourists.

Enjoy your visit to Martha’s Vineyard, Mr. President.

This vacation issue is the most ridiculous, manufactured outrage issue ever. Since when does a president not have the right to go where he wants to go on vacation. Politico actually had some stupid story telling him where he should go instead of MV. How absurd can you get? The Obamas meet friends and enjoy their family there every year. And, Tally, it’s probably the “boringness” of it which is attractive. It’s beautiful there, relaxing, definitely away from the D.C. craziness, away from the bright lights, a chance for the whole family to just be normal people, to rest and laugh and have fun away from the constant cameras. And no one has ever deserved a vacation more than President Obama. Period. End of story. I think this whole thing may backfire on the Repubs. Normal, sane people will find this issue absurd.

And don’t get me wrong…. I LOVE quiet. Maui quiet. Horseshoe Bay, BC (Vancouver) quiet. House on Vancouver Bay overlooking Stanley Park and Lions Gate Bridge quiet.

Martha’s Vineyard didn’t even have any good restaurants. I remember being bored out of my mind (I did get to go horseback riding on the beach which was fun) – but the rest of the time I hated it. Woods Hole was more interesting.

(I’m just not an East Coast gal.) The only thing I liked about Boston was the oysters the size of my head, and the fact I didn’t have to pay for the fresh lobster’s airfare.

I’m glad to be back hom in my desert on the Pacific with my tumbleweeds.

Tally I LOVE Horseshoe Bay! Your post brought back some wonderful memories of when I lived in BC. I was in Richmond (just outside Vancouver) and used to spend much of my time off either walking in Stanley park or Horseshoe Bay. I also used to go to the North Shore and Grouse Mountain for leisure. I worked nights shop fitting and during the day just did everything I could. What wonderful memories! There are days when I still miss my life in Canada. Don’t get me wrong, I do love it here in the UK but there is something just so incredible about North America.

I hope President Obama and his fantastic family have a restful and enjoyable vacation, if anyone deserves some ‘down time’ it is Barack. I hope there is nothing that will interrupt his vacation this time.

How about a nice seafood dinner in sunny Steveston, BC? I’ll bring my son who loves cougars?

I am not the President of the United States, but who is the hell tells the President and his Wife where to take a vacation that is suitable for their children. Are not most people in this country who have children almost all of the time, take that in to consideration when it comes to taking a vacation. Plus Valarie has a lovely place there as well. That also gives her time to chill and still be close to the President and work as well. I am tired of every year the jealous, no life people always focus on this every damn summber. Let the President alone and let him enjoy his well deserve time off. He knows better than anyone one what the state of the economy is. Hell, go get GW and raise hell with him. He is sitting back laughing at all of this shit that he helped create. Let my President alone and his our First Family. Enough of this shit every year. Let these lazy, hater go and have a large glass of wine and write this shit for those who like this type of small talk. Now, I am going to go and drink a glass of organic, yea, I said organic apple jusic with a little something for my heart. Have a nice afternoon lunch TOD Family. I love you all.

Manufactured b.s. No one thinks it matters, except tea party crazies. And if he didn’t take a vacation, we’d hear what a remote, disconnected father he was.

I find it very interesting that they use the same playbook. I think this b.s. stopped working a long time ago. So they really have nothing new, do they?

Makes the media look craven, running like a herd behind Fox.

Today’s media has turned into the sensationalist paper that is placed near the exit counter in a store that tries to grab sales with an unbelievable headline like Alien Baby born of 95 year old Mother. The controversial issue of whether the President can go on vacation or not in this time of the Country’s need or if he is spending too much on the vacation or it doesn’t represent the Country as it is too elitist is crap! They are getting so lazy they are now just recycling their same old attack lines. That is good in my mind as people will just get so tired of hearing them over and over they may think beyond the attack.
Our President has been so busy and nonstop working for us I for one hope he can get rested and rejuvenated. I remember hearing the famous presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin say one of the key components to keeping a presidents health and brain power in such a high stress job is being able to have a time to get away from the stress anotherwords a VACATION. It is part of his responsibility to take care of himself so he can do his best work for us!
