Yay! Good for the Prez. I get tired just watching him so I KNOW, he must be tired. Well earned vacation. (Which he’ll probably work part of the time anyway)

Where is Michelle and the girls?

      • August 18, 2011 at 8:49 pm

Is it just him on vacation? What’s up? I miss seeing Michelle.

They were already there before he arrived. I miss Michelle too but I want our Mom-In-Chief to use her August months to recharge because then she isn’t too worn down and is able to keep herself sane and keep the girls feeling as normal as possible. I can’t remember the interview but it was awhile back and FLOTUS said that when she goes to Hawaii, she wears no makeup and doesn’t have to do her hair and it really relaxes her. I love that FLOTUS knows her limits and uses this time for self-care because she always gives so much to support the President with unbounded enthusiasm all the time and is a great mother. I know she’s busy but needs her breaks away from the camera sometimes as well as the girls. That’s how they all stay so happy.

Hey there, PBO, see you are doing your magic again: cooing a sweet baby.

Glad you and family arrive safely.

Have a safe and wonderful vacation. I know you are not even listening to the noise out there.

    God speed!!

The symbolism of this photo of the President holding that baby is not lost on us. The child is dressed in the colors of the american flag. The President has a very serious and focused facial expression while the onlookers smile with pride and appreciation. The child represents the future of the US, the onlookers represent the public (voters) who love their country and want the best for it now and in the future. They are smiling at the President who has the future of the US in his hands, and they support what they see.

That’s my interpretation for now. If anyone else would like to share their interpretation, let’s hear it!!!

We have a mighty fine president! He deserves a vacation. GOP has no real issues to attack him on since their policies are generally abhorrent to most citizens who have a modicum of common sense. I noted in all the town halls that his calls for compromise, closing tax loopholes, asking millionaires and billionaires to do their fair share, and country first all drew rounds of applause. Also his emphasis on protecting SS and Medicare/Medicaid for the long run and defense of teachers. Unlike the GOP he always comes across as reasonable, thoughtful, hopeful, and respectful of his questioners. He does not speak in soundbites or gin up fear and hostility. Obama/Biden 2012 and a democratic Congress so we can get things done.

    JUDICIAL DELAYS:

This is a very serious problem that I hope will finally get the attention it deserves. If we had a media that was worth it’s salt, this issue would be common knowledge and the GOP would be paying a price for this obstruction. Enough is enough, this is sabotage. This is no way to run a democracy in the 21st century. I plan on sending this infographic to all of the networks. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

INFOGRAPHIC: Record Judicial Diversity, Record Judicial Delays

The victims of these delays, of course, are the American citizens who are being denied the fair and timely judicial proceedings they deserve because of the chronic shortage of federal judges on the bench. Stephen Zack, president of the American Bar Association, told Senate leaders in a recent letter that the abundance of vacant federal judgeships “create strains that will inevitably reduce the quality of our justice system and erode public confidence in the ability of the courts to vindicate constitutional rights or render fair and timely decisions.”

To better understand how the Senate delays are impacting American families and businesses, take a look at our infographic that explains the confirmation process and highlights the bottleneck.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/08/18/infographic-record-judicial-diversity-record-judicial-delays

    • August 18, 2011 at 8:27 pm

I hope this is something the President brings up in his re-election campaign, as part of highlighting the complete obstruction by the Republican Party. Judges are blocked for months, and when they finally clear it’s usually something like 99-1.

President Obama and Dems REALLY need to focus on this – Republicans long game is to stack the judiciary with true believers. Right now they’re blocking every Obama nominee to grind things to a halt. Given that the Senate is going nothing for the next year – why not force votes on every nominee? Why does Reid and Obama let the GOP get away with this?

I agree StR, this is a disgrace. Did you see the number of days for delays in the senate for President Obama. This is unprecedented. And the media is apoplectic over a well deserved vacation in Martha’s Vineyard. If the media spent more time reporting on the activities of the GOP Saboteur’s instead of obsessing over vacations we would all benefit. This just makes me livid.

Why is it that the Republicans are begrudgiing his vacation? Even the lowliest business owner takes time off to refresh. Certainly the holder of the most stressful job in the world that isn’t a cop or firefighter or doctor needs downtime.

Sorry, I got a bit alarmed at your post…..thought we had a troll, but then your name is familiar….friendly familiar. My bad. As for rethugs, PBO is lowlier than that lowly business owner you spoke of. Let’s all say it together……he’s BBBLLLLAAAAAAAAAACCCCKKKK! 😀 Note that some remark about the number of days he spends on vacation, but they never mention the number of meetings, forums, briefings, security and otherwise, he attends, not to mention the overseas diplomatic trips which involve international policy, military, and largely the economic front. Pussies, all of the rethugs. I still have not seen a jobs bill after 9 nine months. I want them in flames come 2012.

  19. August 18, 2011 at 9:22 pm

Hey all, so around 3pm I called Mrs. Waters and talked to her rep. It was a 20 minute conversation which I began sarcastically stating that it had been a while since I’d been in middle school but I do remember learning in civics that congress wrote bills that had to be passed in the House and Senate then sent to the president for his signature so that it could become law. She replied that yes, that’s how it worked but that PBO can use his bully pulpit and draw lines in the sand and not continue the Bush era practices like the Bush Tax cuts. I told her, first of all, the tax cuts expire the first day of 2013 and the only reason it got extended was because the repugs held unemployment benefits hostage. So in exchange for the cuts that sunset at the end of 2012, men and women who had been out of work for years could feed their families and provide housing for them. I said even if those benefits weren’t huge amounts of money, at least they could count on it for 13 months. She immediately interrupted me and tried to correct me by saying it was only 13 weeks. I said “WHAT?!!! it’s 13 months, I specifically remember because the talking heads were so surprised PBO got more than 6 months.” She then tried to convince me it was only 13 weeks and I said “No.” She said she would google it. I continued: ” he got umemployement insurance for–I say 13 months, you say 13 weeks, but he got it in exchange for a stupid tax cut that will be expiring soon.” Then she said “what congresswoman Waters is saying is that this president has put too much on the table like medicare, medicade and social security. The repugs haven’t put any of their sacred cows on the table, don’t you think he’s compromised too much?” I said, “no I don’t. we’ve always known that the repugs will not compromise, that’s what makes them so crazy, right now in certain states, Perry is ahead of Romney and that other crazy woman Bachmann. We know what they stand for: tax breaks and cuts for the wealthiest 2% and the other 98% bedamned! The democrats know where we stand. We’ve always served and protected the 98% of the American population that the repugs could care less about. We know the tea party won’t compromise because this repug party is not the party of Reagan. This isn’t your grandpa’s repug party. But we as democrats can’t draw lines in the sand because that only leaves us at a stalemate. You’ve got repugs on one side, Democrats on the other side, and where does that leave the American people? Caught in the middle, subject to the crossfire and that’s not what we as democrats are about. We protect the American people because the repugs won’t!” Then she started talking how PBO did the jobs tour in the midwest and not Detroit or Philadelphia. I said to her “this tour was specific to energy independence and farming economy, both of which are connected.” She said there were high populations of blacks in Detroit and Philadelphia, I told her I was aware of this, but “I had not heard that Detroit had become the epicenter of farming, biofuels, and alternate sources of energy to ensure energy independence and to decrease our dependence on foreign oil.” Then I started in on her about Waters’ attack on PBO. I said:” Blacks have always been disproportionately unemployed, why is this congresswoman going after this president all of a sudden? She’s been in congress for 30 years, how comes she hasn’t sponsored or co-written and passed any jobs bills?” She told me:” I assure you, the congress woman authored many bills, I can e-mail them to you, but I think her point was that the Tea party have been controlling the agenda.” I said “then why didn’t she say that on Morning Joke? why didn’t she go after the tea party? From what I heard, she only went after PBO. How does that make any sense? the tea party is the problem and instead of focusing on them when public opinion is squarely against them, you are taking the focus off of them and their dangerous policies and attacking the president–the only person standing between us and the precipice! That doesn’t make sense! Democrats and the president have a common enemy: the repugs in the house and the filibustering Senate. Stick with the president, get rid of the crazies and then the Democrats and the President can duke it out or have a more “progressive” agenda.” She said to me: ” that makes alot of sense, I’ve been getting alot of calls with people saying that. We’ve had a broad spectrum of calls, even from the tea party.” Then she tried to add that PUMA talking point: ” Is there anything you think this president could do to go too far because look at how he’s put ss, medicare and medicade on the table.” I said: “NO. there is NOTHING this president could do that would make me think he went too far. In the case of SS, that is solvent for the next 30 to 40 years. The president believes that with some slight tweaking, it can remain solvent for 75 years. In the case of Medicare and Medicade, with more seniors entering the system and healthcare costs on the rise, if we don’t do some adjustments, medicare and medicade– two very important security nets– will gobble up the entire budget so that instead of paying for Pell grants for students or grants for research and development, etc. all the money would be going to medicare and medicade. No one except the repugs are talking about eviscerating the Big Three. We are talking about reforming them so they are more effective, longer lasting and you get more bang for your buck.”

What struck me about my conversation with the rep of Congresswoman Waters is that despite how nice the girl was—she talked to me for 20 minutes (much to my friend’s annoyance as she was waiting for me so we could leave)— was how uninformed she was. Why would the president sign off on 2 years for the Bush Tax cuts in exchange for only 13 weeks of unemployment insurance? How ridiculous is that? It really makes me wonder if the congress people themselves ever read any of the bills they sign off on. The fact that the only defense the rep could use for Waters’ attack on PBO was misinformation and typical PUMA bullshit really surprised and disgusted me. It’s actually disturbing to realize that we are paying these lazy bumbs hundreds of thousands of dollars per year to do absolutely nothing, 😦

Brilliant Lisa. Just brilliant. Thanks for your fightback. I can’t believe the nerve of the aide to say that PBO extended unemployment benefits for only 13 weeks. 13 weeks??!!!! Is she nuts? How ignorant does she think the voting public is? I’m not surprised she didn’t know about PBO’s legislative and executive accomplishments. Look at who her boss is. Maxine Waters has been on every MSNBC program, spewing crap that has no basis in fact or truth.

Thank you so much for posting this. Please repost your experience over at other sites so folks know. I’m stunned at some of the responses of Waters’ rep. Goodness! Not too bright, making all that money and able to rouse people up on the TV without facts and a lot of personal resentment towards the President. How is this going to help vulnerable communities if a Republican gets in the White House? Next she’ll be taking over Rev. Al’s march through NAN. She’ll be there talking loud and shouting to the cameras. She needs to put on blast with a quickness.

As shocking as it is, many of these congress critters get their information about the running of congress from the same lazy MSM that we condemn on a daily basis. They do not know how to do their jobs because they never took the time to learn. They get paid six-figure welfare checks to do nothing, run to the media camera at the slightest opportunity, bash the President while waiting for him to do everything.

    • August 18, 2011 at 10:12 pm

Wow. Great effort. It was 13 months. And the midwest bus tour, as well as being about energy independence/biofuels was also because the GOP were there in full force for the Ames Straw Poll and the President wanted to get his message out and not let the GOP talking points hang in the air unchallenged for too long.

Lisa, I bow to you, my sister. You have the gift of gab, and like Oprah, you use it well. We could all take a lesson from your synopsis. Unbelievable that after all these years, Ms. Waters is clueless about her own damn job. Why would she have a representative that did not know the business? On my job, you’d be fired for insubordination. Thanks, great read. And it should be tweeted by tweeters that Ms. Maxine has an office rep who didn’t know the u.c. benefits were for 13 months, not 13 weeks. How stupid of her to try to argue, but I digress.
