I’m a farmer’s daughter, and boy do I love county fairs. I bet POTUS would like to have stayed there all day just looking around.

Someone at the town hall just thanked him for being the President. πŸ™‚

Funny! I too love the cows that have beautiful eyes. It seemed to me the Swiss cows’ eyes are the pretiiest. When I spent a week in Switzerland this summer going from West to East in a rented car with some of my adult kids we did see cows, but none of those beautiful Swiss cows with the soft brown eyes. I see them in the US a lot.

Hello everyone…I need a really big favor…I don’t tweet (one day) but I would appreciate it if someone would please send a message to PBO for me: Psalm 1:1-2,(1) Blessed are those who do not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers (2) but who delight in the law of the LORD and meditate on his law day and night.

A whole lot of people say they are Christian, but President Hussein Obama IS A CHRISTIAN…his ctritics can say whatever they want to about him…it don’t matter because he is “walking the talk”. GOD created us in his image and I thank him for the day that he gave PBO life…President Hussein Obama is truly an example of what GOD wants all of us to be like…I pray that GOD continue to bless him…to cover him. I can just hear him. I bet he’s saying, “Now that’ s a good looking cow.” Cow looked embarrassed. But here’s a thought that just popped into my imaginative head. A few days ago I wrote about my Indy daughter going to the In. State Fair and visiting the animal barns and seeing the cows getting shampooed and blown dry. They actually fuss over them like it was the Westminster Dog Show. And she said the cows ended up looking “So Cute!” And I said “cows are nice” which is what I always say. πŸ™‚ Anyhoo, I have decided that President Obama or someone on his team loves The Obama Diary and got the idea about the cow visit here! Too fantastical? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. And cows are nice. They just lie under the tree, minding their own business and gossip with their friends. (I grew up in Ia., had farmer grandparents, used to collect the eggs with my grandma and watched my grandpa milk the cows)

They are very docile…….and the new borns are hysterical with energy, They remind me of jumping beans. We returned a few weeks ago from my Mother’s rural South Dakota community, where some of my relatives still raise cattle, haul livestock and farm. Very peaceful and serene…and I love the lowing of the cattle out in the fields. My college boyfriends brother was a rancher in Wyoming, very different cattle operation, went to a branding event, oh lord that was rootin tootin raucus. No drugstore cowboys there.

Tweety’s favorite flavor, Perry (Texas Miracle, top layer of the cake) is imploding right before our eyes. He is getting instant exposure and scrutiny and it has not been a whole week yet. He and Bachmann are cut from the same cloth. They are still searching for the savior of the day. What is Mitt doing these days? Have not seen him since the “corporation are people” gaff. PBO is the real deal.

    • August 17, 2011 at 2:37 pm

Never campaigned and governed as such when he was a state and US senator. So why the freak do they expect that now? He’s achieved more progressive legislation than any other President. “…a REAL progressive” would never, never, never win the general…the sad thing is that the average voter doesn’t know this fact, but folks like Mike, Ed, union leaders, etc, know better. These people are disingenuous…

    • August 17, 2011 at 2:56 pm

Don’t they realize that they are doing a disservice to the unions by bashing the only hope of the union getting anything. If they are patient and elect enough democrats in 2012 maybe some of the things that PBO did not get done in the first term will get done. Once again, if some of the unions had not listened to Ed and Pap… and stayed at home in 2010, the unions and this collective bargaining stuff would not be an issue. They cut off their nose to spite their face and look what’s happening. Now they are trying to blame PBO for what he said. As soon as PBO said what he said, I knew that Ed was going to make a mold hill out of it. They need to move on and stop beating this dead horse.

Mike Papantonio is substituting for Ed Schultz on his radio show today. I saw him on Ed’s tv show last night. When I saw that interview with 2 pundits on it I thought finally they have someone else to bash besides PBO. The conversation was about Rick Perry last night, but I know part of the show bashed PBO on unions and I scrolled past that part as I know Ed never gets that there can be other ways to look at things besides his way. Anotherwords you can still support the same things but react and strategize in different ways. Ed only sees things from his own point of view as it seems does Mike Papantonio.

I find this sort of rhetoric from people like Mike P ridiculous: “He said if PO were primaries by a REAL progressive, he would β€œrolled” because he is definitely losing his base “, first it shows ignorance about the way any major political party works, NO Democrat in their right mind would primary this President and furthermore NO “real progressive” would win a primary contest. Any Democrat who would be foolish enough to try and primary the President would no longer have a future in the party, add to that the fact that they would also be unable to raise the $$$ necessary to mount a primary challenge, think of the 87 million dollars PBO raised last quarter alone. He also conveniently ignores the fact that the Democratic Party is made up of all types of Democrats, and the Ds that are not in the far left camp of the party far outnumber those who are, so we are supposed to believe that Democrats who aren’t members of the far left will flock to an unproven candidate? An unproven candidate that is challenging an incumbent who has the support of the vast majority of his base?

And who is this real progressive hero they are all so obsessed with, I’ve never been able to figure that out, this fictional progressive hero might play well in the precincts these people hail from but I can tell them for damn sure that their make believe candidate would not “roll” the President in my part of the world. A primary challenge against a sitting President takes work, the kind of work they’ve proven to be averse to, I’m so tired of the chatter from the chattering class it’s not only ridiculous it’s juvenile, the presidential race for 2012 isn’t fantasy football it’s a race in which the future of our country will be decided.

(sorry if I repeated some points made up above but I wrote this before the page was refreshed and was so mad at this Mike P guy decided I’d post it anyway)

This is literally getting too easy.

As President Barack Obama traveled to the first of two β€œtown hall” stops in western Illinois today, top national and state Republicans criticized his campaign-style visit and criticized his use of a taxpayer-funded Canadian-manufactured bus as part of a jobs tour. But no mention was made by Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus or Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady that a re-election seeking President George W. Bush used a bus from the same manufacturer, Quebec-based Prevost, for a spring 2004 β€œYes, America Can” campaign tour through the Midwest.

      • August 17, 2011 at 3:27 pm

They have two of them, one eventually for the GOP nominee. Before they’d rent buses and have to trick them out with security at a high cost. These two buses will pay for themselves in 10 years with the savings from renting and altering doing things the old way.

  15. August 17, 2011 at 3:00 pm

PPP Poll in Wisconsin has Bachmann in first(24%), followed by Perry(21%) and Romney(17%) in 3rd!

No wonder Rove is desperate to get Christie or Paul Ryan in.

Candidates have to be officially declared by Nov 22nd, but anybody coming in now would probably to wait until September to enter to get a campaign staff together from virtual scratch. Now Iowa Caucus is going to be in early January, NH Primary in mid January, so anybody getting in in September will have four months before the Primaries start and things get real. And given the set-up the new moderate candidate would have to go all in in NH, and Romney has been there for months and spent millions there already, because they wouldn’t win Iowa or South Carolina, and Romney would win Nevada. So if they didn’t win NH, they’d be 0-4 in the first four primaries, and going all in in Florida isn’t a good strategy (see Giuliani in 2008), because it’s expensive as hell to advertise in and you get no free coverage since you’re getting blown out in first four primaries, so you’re seen as a non-entity.

So there is pretty much a firewall set-up against any new late comers. They’d need to be of name value to be able to compete with Romney in NH.

Cantor urges House GOP to avoid brinksmanship in spending fights

By Erik Wasson – 08/17/11 02:08 PM ET

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) urged rank-and-file Republicans in a Wednesday memo to avoid brinksmanship in upcoming battles over Washington spending.

The message from the majority leader is an effort to prevent the kinds of fights over government spending that could lead to government shutdowns this fall if Congress cannot agree on legislation to fund the government.

On my 1986 bicycle trip from JFK airport in New York to San Francisco, somewhere along that line I crossed the Mississippi where it separates Iowa from Illinois.

I’m still trying to figure out if I possibly passed through Poesta, Iowa (inspired by “Smartypants” remark that the presidential “column” moving through the rolling hills of Iowa ‘grabbed her big time’ – I felt the same).

Someone knows ? If you go straight from Hyde Park at the coast of lake Michigan through Chicago, westward, and then continue straight west until the Mississippi, then cross it, and continue straight west – do you end up in, or near, Poesta ?

[ On second thoughts (courtesy of Google Maps), I don’t think so – the route I took was probably close to route 30, whereas Poesta is close to route 20, more to the North ]

Holy cow a bike trip across the nation? I’ve ridden from one side my state to the other @ 250 miles, a four day trip….but seriously across country, you are amazing, and I am sure very fit. How long did it take you? I am sure you have some crazy stories to tell about adventures along the way. We had beautiful weather, cooler temperatures and low humidty ,which is not typical of Minnesota at the end of July. I loved it, and even learned to appreciate hilly terrain. But I can not get over crossing the entire country on bike 😎 You should train for the Tour de France

      • August 17, 2011 at 5:16 pm

It takes about six weeks (note that I was 29 at the time – couldn’t do it these days anymore).

But that’s not the most important part. When I was 29 I didn’t know the Midwest was known as “fly-over country” by the ‘coastal elites’ :-).

So I experienced all those states and the people living in them as they were – without prejudice (although pretty quickly I learned to avoid topics like politics and religion – after all, I *am* a die-hard European Socialist :-))

But the people are as nice as they look in these photographs, and that’s the important message !

I think this is more an attempt to show the unions as unwilling to negotiate in hopes it would make folks say “Screw’em, if they don’t want to negotiate with the Gov, than they can swallow the whole bill”.

      August 17, 2011 at 4:38 pm

Like this snippet from the link and that “We Are Ohio, the lead organization behind the repeal referendum” said no deal. They called Kasich on the fact that the lawmakers can repeal it themselves without the unions.

“Today We Are Ohio once again stood firmly with the 1.3 million Ohioans who signed petitions to repeal SB 5 by telling the extreme politicians who passed it, to repeal it. Following a press conference held by Governor Kasich, Speaker Batchelder and Senate President Niehaus, We Are Ohio issued the following statement:

“‘We’re glad that Governor Kasich and the other politicians who passed SB 5 are finally admitting this is a flawed bill,’ said Melissa Fazekas, spokeswoman for We Are Ohio. ‘Just like the bill was flawed this approach to a compromise is flawed as well. Our message is clear. These same politicians who passed this law could repeal it and not thwart the will of the people. They should either repeal the entire bill or support our efforts and encourage a no vote on Issue 2.'”

Ooops! New Jersey just got it’s credit downgraded.

    Lights out for Chris Christie.

Today there was buzz about him possibly jumping into the race, but that’s over.

New Jersey just got its credit rating downgraded by Fitch from AA to AA-.

It might not be a big deal, and it might not be his fault, but this should probably kill any buzz about him running for President right now, given that THE DOWNGRADE is expected to be such a salient point of attack for any eventual GOP nominee.

This is my third attempt at bragging about our beautiful Jersey cow. ( I kept getting side tracked.) The beautiful animal shown here, looks like a young Jersey heifer and reminds me of our beloved Io, a Jersey cow we bought in the 70s. We named her after the mythical Io, one of Zeus’ lovers. She was three years old at the time we bought her and had the most beautiful big dark eyes, and a darkish mask. We milked her for years until she was diagnosed by our vet as having heart failure, so she spent the last many months of her life as a pet.

The vet told us she was the oldest cow he’d ever seen still alive. She was put down by him in her pasture and buried there. There are apple trees now growing around her. Many memories of her antics included the loss of a young ash tree which she leaned over the fence and ate completely and very quickly within 12 inches of the ground

We shed many tears to see her go. Two of our kids learned to milk her by hand.

Since she has so few followers right now I thought it would be a good time to do so. I tweeted her the link to The Obama Diary, The People’s View, Electablog and What Is Working. You guys work so hard on your blogs, I just had to share.

And the CBC is out in force today attacking POTUS to take away AA support. That is why i made sure to let the DCCC know I didn’t want any more e-mails from them.

    • 161 jacquelineoboomer
      August 17, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Even the DCCC sent me an email today and wanted me to sign a virtual birthday card for President Clinton. (May I say happy birthday to him, here.) It hit me the wrong way. First of all, he’s no longer President and isn’t connected with Congress (yes, I know President Obama would have just courteously signed the damn card); second, was there some progressive undercurrent there?

      Paranoia 101.

Anyway, I sent an email back saying “No, thanks.” Other times, they’ll say “We need to tell President Obama, etc.” and I write back and tell them I’ll contribute only to those who support the President’s agenda 100%.

As my 42-year-old son likes to tell me when I say or write something that will have no influence on anyone whatsoever but has suddenly made me feel great, “That’ll fix ’em, Mom.” (They’re so cute at that age.)

            Didn’t delete it, I responded back…

Did you send a happy birthday wish to PBHO for his 50th?

            No, you didn’t.

            I’ll pass on this.

By the way, Clinton ain’t all that!

            And, same here…

Despite Tweety and @msnbc, Clinton *ISN’T* ‘The President of The World’.

Although there was a so-called, “surplus,” under a GOP-controlled Congress, he “caused” harm to America and the American people…NAFTA, DOMA, DADT, deregulations of industries (financial, media (here comes Murdoch/Ailes’ Fox”News”), etc.), “guttin'” of federal agencies, welfare reform, et al. He (and Bush II) didn’t prepare America for the 21st century!

And, “show me” what the Clinton Foundation was/is all about…

Poverty, illiteracy, and hunger, amongst our other ills, still exist in America!

Clinton had eight years in office. PBHO has had less than 3yrs.

He has to “make sense” of a “s**t load of crap” that was left by Clinton (and Bush II), et al …Grrr! 😑

            So, “forget” Clinton! πŸ˜†

Just read a story about the President’s visit to Peosta, Iowa. Here’s an annoying segment:

“Richard Wagener, of Dubuque, said he came to the college to demonstrate his distrust of the president, especially over his support for abortion rights. He held a sign reading, ‘I don’t trust Obama. Abortion kills.’ Wagener said, ‘The No. 1 problem is abortion. I just don’t trust him. He’s breaking the country.'”

I understand the anti-abortion sentiments from a segment of our population, but, gee, I didn’t know President Obama was going to order up an abortion for each woman in the country. “Trust” seems like just another code word to me.

    • 182 Debz

Of course he’s going to force abortions on all the women. Isn’t that what he went to Peosta for? LOL

This is a typical teabagger who would vote for Rick Perry where prenatal care in Texas ranks no. 50 and teen pregnacies no. 7. Just heard Randi read it from her research. We get these same wedge issues every election. I am sure they will be out in full force as time goes on.

It’s like one of those nature programs on Discovery, where the gazelle is prancing around, not paying attention and right down wind of that gazelle is a Fricking HUGE lion that’s been watching and following that gazelle and just waiting for the opportune time to strike. It’s gonna be a nasty fight folks. Once PBO pounces, we can only say a word of prayer for Mittens’ soul, cause his ass is grass.

I hope the President let’s it slips that Romney made his fortune on the backs of the American people with dirty business and let’s not forget his firing of a LOT of them

  54. August 17, 2011 at 6:41 pm

When PBO approaches a rope line, he really does make contact with everyone in his own unique way. And by that I mean he’s not just a politician, he is the people’s president.

OMG! It’s like you’re in my brain. That’s the exact thought I had when I watched him going down the rope line. He paused, shook hands, and talked to people. He wasn’t rushing down the line as though the people weren’t important. He treats everyone; bigwig or regular folk the same. In a respectful, warm, friendly, dignified, and compassionate manner. We sure lucked out having him as President.

I hope he and his family have a beautiful and delightful vacation. He’s accomplished yeomans work and deserves all the R&R he can get.

      • August 17, 2011 at 6:59 pm

ut, this man is the very epitome of graciousness. I’m very grateful to him for touching my life in many, many, many ways. I’m so with you on the vacation. I hope he has some cherished alone time with his precious family, who recharge and inspire him to work for all of us.

    • August 17, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I don’t i’d be able to hold it together if the President made eye contact with me. I think I’ll pass out.

      • August 17, 2011 at 7:00 pm

I meant to say that I don’t think I’ll be able to hold it together.

        • August 17, 2011 at 7:06 pm

me neither donna. SS would have to surgically remove me if i evah got within a few inches of PBO. I’d be such a huge disgrace, my family would have to change their names and move to Bum*uck, New Zealand.

Hahahahaha Spider Monkey. πŸ˜† πŸ˜† That just reminded me of Twilight. Edward the Vampire calling Bella a spider monkey. No offense to anyone, but I absolutely ABHORR and DESPISE the twilight franchise. The actors can’t FREAKING act! I gagged a couple of times after being forced to watch the first movie and I refused to watch anymore of the series. UGHHHH Blech!

I love this quote by Stephen King regarding twilight. I’m paraphrasing: “Harry Potter is about Good vs. Evil, the ability to triumph and overcome challenges and obstacles. Twilight is about how to get a boyfriend.” Perfectly describes my sentiments. πŸ™‚

                • August 17, 2011 at 9:36 pm

OH MY GOOOOOOSSSSSHHHHH, UT!!!!!!! i thought i could NOT love you anymore than I already do, but you’ve just managed to almost threaten Mz. Nancy from Cali’s spot as my number 2 girl!!!!!! I DESPISE Twilight!!! I’ve NEVER watched any of the series but unfortunately I’ve seen the trailers. That was enough for me to conclude that the franchise was ABSOLUTE crap filled with bad acting and even worse scripts! I can’t believe people actually shell out money for such tripe! My friends love it and some even prefer that crap over Harry Potter!!!!!!! Can you believe that?!!!! The nerve of them! Those two franchises shouldn’t even be comparable! I can’t wait for it to finally come to an end! I can’t believe that Patterson or Pattenson or whatever-the-hell- name-is-guy, has managed to get other movie roles! He can’t even act! His first solo film was a flop (I hope) and then he decided to do that Water For Elephant movie with my girl Reese Witherspoon (ughhhhhh 😦 ) and now apparently, he has another role. Plus, what’s worse is that Bella girl! I’ve never seen the movies but just the trailers are able to communicate just how HORRIBLE an actress she is! I remember the trailer for the last movie where she was supposed to be crying, and I don’t know what the hell Kristen was doing but it was awful! Like someone took an average joe off the streets, put them in front of a camera and told them to start crying, only Kristen was worse because she actually thinks she can act. The other day I was watching something on E! about child stars and she made the list and guess what they said about her? She’s NEVER taken acting classes. I almost wizzed my pants! I turned with self righteous vindication and said to my four walls: “mmmmmm hm. ‘nough said.” I am an avid lover of movies. I cut my teeth on classic movies, so much so that I basically memorized all of Turner Classic Movies’ catalogue of movies ( with the exception of silent films, just don’t have the passion for it), I love drama, musicals, comedies, you name it. I am appalled and disgusted by what passes as acting these days. Hollywood should be ashamed of itself.

Rove Group To Attack Obama For Using Same $1.1M Bus GOP Candidate Will Use

Of course they will, like we didn’t see that coming

I always say though that they should just relax and let the fauxgressives, emoprogs, libertarians do their work. Why waste money when you have Hamsher, Kos, Greenwald, Huffington, Maher , etc do your work?

Now I can see they’re enraged, foaming at the mouth about that OFA letter, they’re so vicious and sick. NOT the base.

  58. August 17, 2011 at 7:02 pm

Did you guys here Rev. Al talking to these two guys about Rick Perry? How about this that one of the guys said, that if it wasn’t for the Stimulus, Gov. Rick Perry would not have been able to balance Texas budget. And if he hadn’t taken the Stimulus money, he would have had to raise taxes. Now this two faced arregent G.W. Bush wanna be is running around bragging that he balance Texas budget, but he didn’t tell anyone that if it wasn’t for President Obama’s Stimulus money Perry would not have balance the budget. And taxes would had to be raised. So the state of Texas should thank President Obama for the balance budget, not that G.W. Bush wanna be loud mouth Governor. Texas got how much Stimulus? These creeps like Perry is something else, they are disgusting.

    • August 17, 2011 at 7:11 pm

yup! caught the tail end of Rev. Al’s program! when that guy said that Perry wouldn’t have been able to spout on and on about the ‘Texas Miracle’ without PBO’s stimulus money, Rev. Al said: “shut your mouth!!! Are you telling me that Perry’s miracle would not have happened without PBO?” the guy said yes. Rev Al repeated: “shut your mouth, we don’t want anyone else to know that………… I’ll be coming down to Texas to tell you shut your mouth in person.” the guy laughed and said “come on down.” hahahahahahahhahahahhahaha!!! Love rev. Al, he’s so darned funny!! πŸ˜†

      August 17, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Yep. Rev Al sure exposed Perry’s lies as the “job creator.” I also love how he took on Romney for complaining about PBO’ss Martha’s Vineyard vacation. Romney complained that instead of calling on congress to come back to Washington, that President Obama was on a three day economic townhall tour of the Midwest. He then complained that Martha’s Vineyard is full of democrats and liberals. Rev Al laid into him calling him out for his faux outrage and lies. He said that during the debt debate Romney was the vanishing man. He was holed up in his million dollar mansion in New Hampshire. He then exposed Romney for the fraud he is; because while he’s complaining about PBO’s Martha’s Vineyard vacation, he’s going to be in Martha’s Vineyard holding a posh fundraiser for his uber wealthy friends. Romney’s such a hypocrite and a stalker. Stalking PBO all over the country. UGGGHHH.. disgusting.

      • August 17, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Romney is so stupid. He doesn’t know when he’s playing with fire. Let him keep on baiting the tiger (PBO) in a cage (can’t campaign yet). That’s the thing about baiting the tiger when you think the bars will keep you safe. All the times your mocking and yelling and baiting, that tiger is watching you, watching what you do, say, how you move. He’s learning everything about who you are, and one day, when he manages to loosen the locks on his cage, Mittens is gonna come baiting with a stick, poking and prodding and making a lot of noise, and just when he least expects it, PBO is gonna pounce so hard and so fast, Mittens won’t even know what hit him. I almost pity him……….naw.

  59. August 17, 2011 at 7:10 pm

CBS News show that President Obama has had 61 vacation days, G.W. Bush at this same time in his presidency had 161 vacation days, and Reagen had 112. So to FOX and all the right wing nuts, to Chuck Todd, Mark Knoller, Jake Tapper, you all can go straight to you know were.

Love that pic. Just as cute as the one that was up yesterday with the boy hanging on to his leg like he didn’t ever want to let go. It’s something that I love so much about our President, that he can be so natural and affectionate with people, people want to hug him and he hugs back. I’ve never seen another politician like that. Clinton was very gregarious but it wasn’t the same as Obama’s genuine openness to really connect with people.

Social-networking app Foursquare has snagged perhaps its highest profile user: President Barack Obama.

How long is the First Family on vacation? I recall they said this will be a longer one. A week? 10 days? I wonder if the GOP will pull a stunt of some sort. Maybe let Biden have a presser early next week to keep the press happy.

My 10-year-old grandson and I stood outside, looked east, and he spotted a lone plane in the distance leaving Peoria at exactly the time Air Force One should have left! I followed the local reporter’s liveblog and when he said AF1 was wheels up, we went outside and 10-15 mins. later, there it was (appropriate timing for the distance).

Anyway, we think it was the President and my grandson and I gave each other the high-five! He can now tell his school friends he saw Air Force One.

Christine O’Donnell Walks Off Piers Morgan Interview

  72. 349 Walking_on_ Sunshine
    August 17, 2011 at 10:15 pm

The interesting thing about this for me is that she seems embarrassed to admit that she’s against gay rights. Anyone who thinks there has not been a shift to the left over the last couple of years needs to reassess the situation. The thing the President is doing is moving the middle ground slowly but surely to the left. He’s doing it gently and steadily and he’s bringing most of the country with him. It is his willingness to talk and compromise that is making this possible. That’s my view anyway.

Little miss Christine here is a bit of a ditz “I want to talk about what I want to talk about” She comes off very bratty. This girl is really the center of her own universe.

Yes, every host of every show you would like to interview you will have read your book cover to cover darling, because none of them have anything else to do……you’d be lucky if they had the time to skim the introduction. Then Pierce goes ahead and recommends it as a “good book”.

The whole set-up is such a bucket of bullsh@t. I swear. It’s why I don’t watch the TV anymore.
