the, um, liberal media

SFGate: The Standard & Poors’ rating agency decision to reduce the United States’ long term debt from AAA to AA+ was explained in a press release that specifically mentioned “the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues,” should, itself, make headlines like “Standard And Poors Blames U.S. Credit Rating Reduction On Republicans.”

But the fact is, some publications, most notable The Associated Press and Politico, are working (thus far) to cover up S&P’s finger-pointing at Republicans. Instead, they appear to be pointing their own fingers at President Obama – someone not mentioned in the Standard and Poor’s press release.

Take Jonathan Allen in Politico: Standard & Poor’s delivered an unambiguous message to investors Friday that has serious implications not only for the nation’s economy but also for President Barack Obama, the tea party and anyone else with skin in the 2012 elections: America’s political system is subprime.

That was how Allen started off his article. In it, there was zero mention of the two very damaging statements S&P used in its press release, and directly aimed at Republicans….

… Allen’s Politico article had a lot of Republican quotes, not many Democratic quotes, and in all failed to tell the truth of Standard & Poor’s message.

And then there’s the Associated Press’ article by Martin Crutsinger. It fails to include, or mention Standard & Poors’ GOP-directed press release quotes….

…. It’s purely irresponsible for The Associated Press and Politico to fail to accurately report the contents of the Standard and Poors press release. If The Associated Press and Politico want to damage President Obama, they should just come out and say so. Heck, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that his objective was to make President Obama “A one-term President”….

The media in general ginned up the whole hostage taking by treating it as legitimate politics – and then when Boehner “wins” they crow about how Obama gave it, and yet now when everything is going to shit – it’s all Obama’s fault.

The game is rigged. Everybody knows.

Well I never mince words on how I feel about the national media and won’t now.. they are bought and paid for by GOP- all of them. They throw out a token bite or two occasionally to get ‘liberals’ watching.. but they are without facts 99% of the time, they are mere gossip columnists- trash throwers and glorified opinionators. I truly have no use for any of them and trust them not a whit. And frankly when they began their push for the tea party bs- the media then became dangerous… and like it or not, believe it or not, those are the folks on our teevees with their shiney teeth and gleaming inappropriate smiles that are the biggest perveyors of lies I’ve ever seen in my lifetime… without them there would be none of the crap we are constantly fighting. They do us no good service and they are all about fomenting a crisis and keeping it bubbling as long as possible- they are playing for one side of the fence. period.

What a perfect comment shrijrjr. THAT point: the media is dangerous!
Just the fact that they promoted the t-party is so disturbing. They were careful not to mention that Dick Armey and Koch Brothers were funding it and putting people in buses from all over.
All their ”protests” were on the air for a full cycle.
When I saw that CNN was following the T-party express, I was so disgusted.
They were making sure to edit any of the ugly disturbing signs, racist signs, it was all sanitized to make sure that they look like just a grass root movement of good old patriots concerned about spending.

Again, where the hell are they now, where are they with their signs,? Nowhere to be found after the Ryan’plan? No mention in the media. No mention about them vanishing after their t-party nutjobs got elected in Congress.

They were selling the myth that the t-party had no political affiliation.

I will never get over this, how the media is responsible for the rise of the far-right and STILL helping them.

Right on! And it’s sad that a “top” Tea Party speaker got media coverage in DC a week or so ago. The only people who showed up for his speech were media folks! No Tea Baggers in the crowd at all. If I’m a media person and I see a guy giving a speech to no one, I’m thinking “No story here.” Might as well cover a homeless guy ranting on a street corner.

I agree 100%. The media made the Tea Party. They covered every event where 20 people attended. The made Sarah Palin by constantly covering her. There is no Fourth Estate. Even MSNBC is corporate owned lest we forget. Ed told progressives not to vote. O’Donnell is a corporate man who can reel folks in only to turn on a dime. Rachel has her moments, but she’s bought and paid for. I don’t trust any of them. They have shown their true colors one time to many.

Sarah Palin is reason a plenty not to value what the MSM attempts to sell us, that heinous piece of crap was forced to remain in our collective conscience because of the MSM. No one, no one, was willing to scratch the surface or challenge her pointless, ignoranance. On the contrary they blew fairy dust (my new favorite phrase) and deceit in our faces and made her into someting she is not. Sarah Palin is a stage act, produced by the media and is total fiction. The day the curtain goes down on this act is coming, September will be a very bad month for Palin, and when she is exposed, the media will be exposed as well, and hopefully the corrupt government entities she was spawned from. Alaska has to be one of the most corrupt, if not the most corrupt state governments in the nation.

Palin’s 15 minutes ended after the 2008 Election. The msm has been trying to pump life into her career ever since, but she gets less popular by the day. I wish the msm would wake up and stop wasting money on her.

Detroiters protest Smiley and West event at City Hall

    Posted: 08/08/2011
Last Updated: 9 hours and 58 minutes ago

DETROIT (WXYZ) – Detroiters have gathered at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center to protest an event hosted by Tavis Smiley and Cornel West.

West and Smiley host a nationally syndicated public radio program and have faced sharp criticism for their stance against President Obama. They have launched an event they call the “Poverty Tour.”

Councilwoman Joann Watson is also coming under fire for letting them into City Hall and hosting the presentation.

Both Smiley and West told Action News reporter Val Clark that the event is not an anti-Obama tour, but do say they believe the President hasn’t done enough for the poor.

A spokesperson for the community organization “Detroiters for Better Government” says Detroiters will stand united against this event.

“We will not stand silent as Smiley and West criticize the man who brought us health care reform, one of the greatest accomplishments for the poor in our nation’s history,” says David Stephen. This event has nothing to do with the poor and everything to do with enriching Tavis Smiley. Detroit must send a strong message to Washington that although some elected officials may support this anti-Obama rally on government property, THE PEOPLE do not.”

….Some of the best news supporting Our President is news you’ll NEVER see or hear if you depend solely on the MSM to educate you. Don’t believe the Hype… “THE PEOPLE” understand more than they will EVER let you know about….

    • August 9, 2011 at 12:01 am

eclectic, this is the best news I have heard in days. Not anti-Obama? Those a hats are despicable. I am sorry, but if they are religious, I hope they go to hell. Sorry, but I am sick of those doubters. Of course PBO cares about the poor and those who struggle the most, but what in reality can he do when he is fighting the establishment. Shame on those two twits who are upset because they are not being asked to be advisers.

The people do not want this type of divisiveness in their neighborhoods. They want to work with this President for the good of the people. Councilwoman JoAnn Watson also asked for one billion from POTUD to balance their budget this past April, it is reported. Nice of her, and then this. See this is the type of back-stabbing that will come out soon or later.

From Veterans Today — had me cracking up — here’s a snippet from “The Reign of Fools is Over”:

Tavis Smiley is a television dicjockey with a genius for self-promotion. He specializes in promoting corporate influence in the Black community in exchange for corporate sponsored tours to promote his books on political accountability.

Dr. Cornel West is a self-described “Socratic scholar” with a doctorate that embraces the proposition that Moses parted the Red Sea. He’s also renowned for trying to be the coolest person in the room, and taking a long time not to say much. He specializes in telling anyone who will listen, or who happens to have a camera, a mic and an extension cord on hand, about his deep disdain for the oligarchs and corporate plutocrats. He also has a fondness for the syncopated rhythms of multi syllabic words – he thinks it makes him sound like King Pleasure, so it enhances his street creds. They also serve to mask the vacuous content of his message.

So these two impressive personages have now come together as best friends. They co-host a radio show together, and have declared themselves the self-proclaimed, and hip hop inspired, saviors of the poor, middle class, and minorities. They’re sorta like the Dynamic Duo of the hood, or Mutt and Jeff, as it were.

But there’s only one chink in their armor (and as you know, all superheroes have a chink – Superman’s was Kryptonite). While Tavis is supposed to be fighting for accountability, and Cornel is supposed to be protecting us from the oligarchs and plutocrats, they’re both irretrievably wedded to the very same people they’re supposed to be protecting us from. So they’re like Batman and Robin with a crack habit. You see, Tavis is one of the most pronounced corporate shills in the Black community. He has a tremendous jones for Walmart, Nationwide Insurance, and various other corporate entities.

Do you really believe that Nationwide is on the side of the Black community, or the poor, or the middle class? Somehow, I don’t think so. So these two superheroes have about as much credibility as a man ranting in the street against fascism after just having lunch with Mussolini.

There’s a photo on my site of West suckin’ up to Obama after the election – and this, after he and Tavis had been doggin’ Obama all during the campaign. I haven’t seen that kind of skinnin’-n- grinnin’ since they took Amos n’ Andy off the air. But the look that Obama is giving West says it all. It speaks volumes, and clearly shows that Obama has had West’s number for some time. So one has to wonder how West could even have expected tickets to the inaugural or returned phone calls when he’d been jumping back and forth over the fence depending on which way the wind was blowing.

[& yes that picture is there!]

        August 9, 2011 at 10:02 am

A tad more in his conclusion:

In addition, we should all use this moment as a lesson in why we should never take society’s symbols and the accoutrements of knowledge and power at face value. We also need to recognize that we should never give anyone’s character or ability to think priority over our own. Once we learn those lessons we’ll render ourselves much less vulnerable to political manipulation.

We should walk away from this moment with the clear understanding that Just because a person has letters behind their name, teach at a prestigious university, favor a garbled multi syllabic tongue, or host a television show, that doesn’t mean that they have any more intelligence, or any more character than we do. We should always ignore the superficial, and assess the quality of a person on our own terms, and not allow the system to shove its carefully selected “heroes” down our throats.

And finally, we should allow this episode in our history to mark the moment where the crabs-in-a-barrel syndrome comes to an abrupt end in the Black community. The game that Smiley and West have been playing has been holding Black people down for centuries. So now’s the time for it to stop, and we should mercilessly banish from our midst anyone we find engaging in it. Let us make it abundantly clear, that the reign of fools is over.

        • August 9, 2011 at 11:07 am

Great post Xtine. Obama owes them nothing and without even trying exposed their hustle. Tavis is mad because a Hillary victory would have guaranteed him defacto leadership of Black America where he would have been able to sell even more books due to his direct line to the White House.

The President took all that away.

Once upon a time, when journalists worked and didn’t pose for cameras, they were educated in the liberal arts….history, science, literature, grammar, writing, all the subjects that gave context and understanding to what they did. They investigated, analyzed, considered, and brought the facts to the public. Now they just want to get on camera, so say whatever they think will grab the headlines and get them famous. These journalists are ill-educated , egotistical and lazy. They just want “face time.” They never learned the cardinal rules of journalism, or if they did, they forgot on purpose.
They are supposed to answer what, when, where, who, and last why. Most of them don’t bother with the first four…they lash right out to why, not understanding or caring about the first four. The first four are what they’re supposed to deal with. The why is supposed to be left to labeled editorial writers. Now, every two-bit “journalist” thinks he/she is an op-ed writer.
My cousin is Jim Lehrer of the PBS Newshour. He has no use for the modern class of journalists. He does not bring opinion into his reporting. He says he is so concerned with the what, to get that right, that he never goes beyond that. He is so objective, and so focused on facts that we in the family do not know his political leanings. He is a journalist of the old school, well educated and careful, and of course can he write!
He said to me one time that the journalist should be the best educated person around, and he was referring to what I mentioned in the first sentence.

‘Timing is everything’ and we are very fortunate that the events are happening now, not this time next year.

No matter where they turn the Radical Republican Party will be confronted with ‘where are the jobs?’.

And the only hope they have of not being totally crushed in 2012 is to cooperate with the President an enact legislation that is conducive to job growth – in America.

Damned if they do (a bit less so), damned if they don’t (massive loss in House, Senate and across State Governments throughout the Republic).

But, for today, I wanted to focus on a heartfelt but strategically important lesson President Obama wove into his briefing to the newstainers and the few actual journalists.

So, my letter to the President (posted as comment in an earlier blog post of yours, Chipsticks) is meant to convey an explicit request – though I always make such requests to the President humbled by the reality that he and his team have likely already thought of it!

That is the sustaining force of our democratic society – our commitment to one another irrespective of race, economic status, religion, whatever.

We all share a gift – a gift of being an American, irrespective of how that privilege came to us.

It is that gift that motivates every small contribution I can make, humbled by the reality that so many have give their lives to preserve that gift.

Cantor can posture all he wants but he took a major hit and he knows it. Meanwhile Paul Ryan has signaled his willingness to raise revenue. The 3 to 1 deal but that ship has sailed. When Congress gets back the President has some surprises in store. They don’t know it yet but there days of do nothingness and hostage taking are over. Pretty soon they’ll be begging to work with the President only to realize that it is going to be strictly or mostly on his terms.

Thank you for your kind comments and insights. derbingle, couldn’t agree with you more. It’s all about jobs now, no escaping it and the options for how those jobs are created, at fair wages, and in the time frame required mean the Radical Republican Party is going to have to cooperate with the President and with the Democrats in the House and Senate. For the RR the options on Election Day 2012 are bad or worse. And, RRs can disabuse themselves now that Americans will suffer Stockholm Syndrome before Election Day 2012.

I think Boehner knows it. Start passing major job bills and take credit for it or get crushed. There’s no third way and I suspect even Republicans in deep red districts don’t want to hear anymore ideological mumbo jumbo.

  8. 45 Ladyhawke

I swear, sometimes I think the feckless media stenographers are just deaf, dumb and blind. I mean how much clearer can President Obama (EXECUTIVE BRANCH) be about what Congress (LEGISLATIVE BRANCH) needs to do to spur the economy and create jobs. How many times does he have to say this for it to sink in and for the media to simply report the facts??

We have DIVIDED GOVERNMENT. The Republican Party majority in the House has a responsibility to govern. But the media looks the other way and gives them a free ride while blaming President Obama for all of the problems confronting the country. No wonder Speaker In Name Only John Boehner can make the stupid comment that the Democrats run Washington. He knows the MSM won’t challenge him.

The President today outlined a series of steps Congress can take to quickly add momentum to our nation’s economic growth. Click on the links below to find out more about how each of these proposals can help propel our economy forward:

Extend the payroll tax cut so that middle class families have more money in their paychecks next year. If you’ve got more money in your paycheck, you’re more likely to spend it, and that means businesses of all sizes will have more customers. They’ll be in a better position to hire.

We also need to make sure that millions of workers who are still pounding the pavement looking for jobs to support their families are not denied needed unemployment benefits.

If Congress fails to extend the payroll tax and unemployment insurance it could mean one million fewer jobs and half a percent less growth.

Pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill. There are over a million construction workers out of work after the housing boom went bust, just as a lot of America needs rebuilding. We can connect the two by helping private companies rebuild our roads and bridges and railways.

Pass the patent reform bill to give our entrepreneurs the chance to get their job-creating ideas to market faster by streamlining the patent process.

Pass the trade agreements that will help businesses sell more American-made goods and services to Asia and South America, supporting tens of thousands of jobs here at home.

Carolyn, Jim Lehrer has a very well respected reputation. Didn’t he moderate the first Presidential debate between PBO and McCain? I am sure it pains him deeply to see the principles and ethics of reporting so deeply degraded. I think their biggest problem is their business model, and I also think ‘celebrity optics’ contributes negatively as well.

Ok, we had the debt limit crisis where congress was not doing it’s job. Then we had the FAA re-authorization stalemate where congress went on vacation and left workers stranded. Now we have No Child Left Behind where congress is not doing it’s job. So President Obama is coming to the rescue of states and will be giving them waivers. Meanwhile, it’s been four years waiting for reform of NCLB. What’s taking so long??

Melody Barnes and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan were guests at the briefing today with Jay Carney. They did an excellent job of explaining how congress has not acted and they have been forced to step in because of pleading from the states of help. This was really embarrassing. But Melody and Arne were fantastic.

Melody Barnes, Director of WH Domestic Policy Council and Arne Duncan did a beautiful job today. I watched them and the questions were horrible. However, Arne and Melody handled themselves very professionally. I put that information in my Educational File. Being that so many teachers will be starting school with so many heartaches to bear in their districts and school, this will help so many of them. Our President is always thinking how to move around them to help in every situation. That is why we support him. He works so hard to get things done for the good of the people who sent him to Washington. thanks for posting this Ladyhawk.

This has been a very busy day for me. Thank you everyone for keeping uptodate on this all. It is so frustrating to hear all that the media is saying. Where is our liberal media? I feel so blessed to have found this site and for all you wonderful people.

My prayers are for this President during this real time of stress. May God’s hand be on him always.

I just read that Chris Matthews said that VP Biden gets beat up for his mental limitations????

    What the hell is this?

    How insulting.

I don’t even know what to think about Matthews anymore, something is not quite right. He was bashing Bachmann for a while, called her a balloon head, than did a complete turn around and started to praise her.

The same thing with the President, praise one day, bash the other…..well now he seem to be on a precise path, bash the President.

I remember during the primaries when he just couldn’t help himself, night after night, to mention that the President, than Senator, couldn’t connect with ”regular” folks, white folks.

    He just didn’t let go.

I have a feeling it’s going to be the same now because he made a complete turn around.

Yes MSNBC is really the left version of Fox News. Please.

    • August 8, 2011 at 11:25 pm

chris is definitely NOT one to talk about mental limitations. That man is so silly it’s actually sad. Joe could beat good ole’ chris at a game of mental chess any time, any day, any way. All Tweety has going for him is that he has a big mouth. 🙄 I’m sick of these ridiculous utterances about Joe. They are stupid and unfounded.

I have no respect when someone like Chris would hit below the belt to a very capable and decent human being as VP Joe Biden. Chris is very aware that VP Biden has had two brain aneurysms that almost took his life. This is no small issue, and to make the comment that he made is low. These people will stoop to the lowest level just to make money and ratings. Will when we witness someone taking this type of opportunity to wack at a person’s personal health, I hate that so much. There is no reason to do that to anyone. No more respect for Chris. He will never have a count from me for a rating.

Doris, I am going to ask him up front. He has a right to say what he pleases, but enough is enough. There is a common decency in life. I feel that he has been given a platform and he should be more responsible in using it. Attack the Administration’s policies, but leave the personal matters especially health issues to be disvussed by the VP who could put them in a better context in a very helpful and humane manner, I am confident of that about what we know and have seen of Vice President Joe Biden.

They get paid no matter what.. they ARE their news, they are THEIR controversy.. whatever nonsense they can toss out of their wee brains- is voila! the news of the day/hour/week. Its crazy they have so much power and $$$… and they continue to get away with it. President Obama is the best President we have had for a long time. If we don’t speak up at every opportunity to point out his accomplishments, and point out the Repubs lies, then we don’t deserve him. I am going to work very hard to see that he is reelected. He will be!!! Surely the American public will recognize what a fine president he is–what a hard road he has.

I’ve always felt the Associated Press and Yahoo News stories were 99% slanted to the right. They never report the full story, they imply stuff that didn’t happen or isn’t part of the story and the stories are always laced with denigrations and put downs of President Obama with snarky snide words. Politico is just a hopeless case. They all couldn’t smell truth, real journalism, and honesty if it bit them in the patooty.

Oh yeah by the way, I was on twitter and lo and behold Michael Moore began his dumb crap ranting. He kept tweeting that President Obama should man up, stop being weak, and go out and arrest the CEO’s of S&P for daring to downgrade us. I mean seriously? That’s what a President of the United States should do? He doesn’t have more important things to do or worry about. Like oh…. I don’t know…. the economy, protecting the programs and policies he’s put into place, try to work in a divided government filled with insane nutjobs, try to corral congress into coming up with a balanced plan so our credit rating goes back to AAA and oh yeah run for re-election. I tweeted that idiot and told him to STFU and go do something productive instead of whining and pushing emoprog agendas that have no basis in reality.

Doris, I hope that I am not intruding into something that maybe personal, but I do not want you to go to bed mad. Do not take that which made you mad into your spirit as you are trying to go to bed. Maybe you might want to have a nice hot cup of herbal tea, a little nice sip of your favorite wine, eat a half of a banana, or just read one of your favorite quotes before retiring to bed. Do not allow the foolishness of those comments or anything they have said disturb you peaceful sleep tonight. I am not telling you to do something, but I care about you and all of our TOD Family. I hurt when one of you are in pain. I know that we are hear to give collective support for our President and all that he is trying to do. I am writing this to you as I sit and listen to Ave Verum Corpus performed by Martin In The Fields. Just beautiful and relaxing. I also lit my candles in my sitting room, in my bedroom, and in my library/music/devotional room. I prayed and thought about the bodies that will be coming home to Dover tomorrow. I asked God to give the families strength, wisdom, and surround each family with loving angels of comfort tomorrow. It is quiet and peaceful with the music and the light of the candles. Yes, I am crying, but it is a hopeful cry for there will be hope for the goodness that this President and Vice President are doing. I know that President Obama and Michelle and Joe and Jill are sad tonight. So we join in love, peace, compassion, comfort by doing our thing in our special spaces within our homes for our beautiful and brave military who were carrying out their duties for us and the world. Never allow the enemies take that joy from us. They are taking too much already. Okay? Promise me, Doris. I love you so very much. HZ

The next time some one ask another person to man up. Ask them how to perform such a request. Bet you they could not tell you. President Obama is one of the most perfect examples of what a real man looks like. Intelligent, compassionate, respectful, loving, caring, slim physique, athletic, smooth, suave, good father, a good decent human being, a good brother, uncle, responsible, a leader, good ego and self respect, good self esteem, and the many other attributes.

The problem with a lot of them they really can’t find any thing to criticize President Obama. The easy thing for another man to try to punch another man is with the man up statement. His mother was a strong female and she prepared him for life’s obstacles. They are going to have to find something else to try to mental mash him because I can assure you it certainly not words. It is in his DNA, a strong will and determination to help some one along this life journey. President Obama is schooling us about this political game. This is the first time in my adult life that I have been engaged in politics. If we just listen to our President, follow his instructions we will be better for it. He has done the hard work; he has read the political playbooks and figured out the game plan. We got to do the leg work, the ground game. He knows that if one of us is empowered, we are capable of bringing 10,000 people along with us. Each one, reach one. If we just empower our family and friends and shatter the lies, the democratic process continues.

Every time a person stands or sit before an audience and perpetrate lies, their deeds will not go unpunished. This is why every trick thrown at our President always back fires. No weapon formed against him shall prosper. Because the bible tells us to not bear false witness against our neighbor.
With all of the corporate money, and the bias media they still won’t be able to defeat President Obama. They have never been afraid before now. They are willing to sell their souls for their money. They are trying to kill education because if you keep the populous dumb and ignorant they will be at the mercy of big money and you know where that lead us, a substandard way of life.

The Republican Party know that they can not win an equal fair race. They are enacting voting right changes in key states they are targeting, they have stacked the Supreme Court in case we have a 2000 election scenario again in the hopes that we have some problems, the changed financing contributions rules, trying to dismantle the unions, manufacturing crisis when there are not any, all in the hopes of defeating President Obama. They are desperate and will do almost any thing to win.

We must fight daily, stop watching the lies on the television in order to maintain your mental sanity. Help another person to know the truth about this president who is doing every thing in his power to help the American people.

OT, way OT…..but I thought I’d just like to let you all know that we have just survived the hottest month in any state in the history of record keeping in the U.S. : Oklahoma, July 2011, average daily temperature 89.1. That means averaging our “low” and high for every day. The previous record was August 1936 for hottest month…this one surpassed the dust bowl month. At least this time we have air conditioning, and thanks to WPA and other organizations, we have lakes so we don’t have a dust bowl.

I was looking for the article of the PUMA professor of psych. who wrote the disgusting article about the President, that was praised by the PL.

I was just looking for his name, to find an email or something, to give him a piece of my mind..

I can’t believe how many articles I found with similar titles. What happened to Obama’s passion, where is Obama’s passion and so on.

I thought about that earlier, did anyone ask where was the passion of former presidents? ever??

Did they ask that of Reagan, especially in the later years of his presidency when he wasn’t so well? Did they write articles about that?

I can’t believe the crap the President has to deal with.

I just copied a small part of Joe Klein article, dated August 21, 2008, titled ”Where’s Obama passion

The last question at the North Carolina town meeting came from a homeless veteran who said more than half of the 200 people living in his shelter were veterans too. Obama gave a solid, substantive answer. What he should have said was, “That’s outrageous! Why don’t we go over there right now — I’d like to thank them for their service and see what we can do to help.” That sort of spontaneity — that sort of real passion — is what’s missing from this candidacy. I suspect Obama will have a hard time winning unless he finds some of it.

They were wrong back then and they are wrong now!

Christi this is a good article to keep on record. We need to use these articles to expose the media as being biased corporate propaganda machines, rather than objective disseminators of information about current events.

I would love to compile these articles from back in 2007 through 2011 – all asking the same question about the President and predicting the same doom and gloom about him. A timeline like this would really highlight the sheer uselessness of the MSM and how they use their columns to brainwash and shape people’s opinion rather than keeping people informed as they should.

Illinois Rep Jan Schakowsky said tonight on LOD that she thought that Americans would be taking it to the streets by now. She said that at least they are taking it to the phones – that she’s received many calls.

My question: Why aren’t we taking it to the streets already? Do we need to contact Rev Al, or Jesse, or OFA for assistance in mobilizing us??

    • August 9, 2011 at 12:20 am

I think these reps should direct people to townhalls instead. More effective than a march or protest IMO. Repubs need to hear and feel the heat up front and center.

    • August 9, 2011 at 1:31 am

Gail……..I am with you…Time and time again, I’ve been asking folks..to call OFA DNC and organize a march..Tweets, phone calls may work for a while…but there’s nothing more effective than marching, demonstrating….I am puzzled to why folks are complaining day in and day out about the Media about who said what?? Yet not one is mobilizing, or demonstrating. I know that Rev. AL is marching sometime this month. I stopped listening to anyone that complains about the Media or anyone else…until they get to work…anything else is hot air, pure and simple. Why would we need anyone to drag us down the streets….Do we not know how much PBO needs us? Do we not know that the Media, Republicans/Teabaggers are pounding on this President like he’s some bouncing ball….My question to the American people..How Long? can we wait? We’ve seen the writing in the wall…Our country is falling of the cliff, anything that goes wrong is blamed on PBO….
We waited for PBO to say, please call, email and tweet your congressmen, that’s all it took and they crushed the phone lines. We don’t have to wait for PBO to tell us what to do,when we say we have your back…it means just that….Doing whatever it takes to make his job a little easier, He needs a break, we’ve seen him work tirelessly, we owe him that much and more. So for anyone anyone that tells me that they have PBO’s back…they need to start walking the talk.
Please Walk like an Egyptian…You will be doing your country and this President Proud.

Visuals are important. You are advocating taking it to the streets. Marching is one mean and they did so not long ago. Technology has made it possible any second of the day to take it to the street. When President Obama said to call your congress person, that was taking it to the street. Your personality may require you to be a more active participant but not every one have a desire to take it to the street, by marching. You should organized a public demonstration of like minded, non partisan individuals. Don’t wait for OFA and the DNC. During the continued crisis in WI, they demonstrated their frustrations many days at their capitol. Did the media cover it, NO. We got the coverage from like blogs. You would not have known they were even demonstrating if it was not from BWD and TOD blogs. Just saying, you be that agent of change by initiating a marching demonstration for the cause.

bc I don’t thhink organizations directly backing PBO can do that. I think it may seem unseemly. It looks partisan and not at all grassroots. From Booman http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2011/8/8/232913/9937

“If I could get a decent advance, I think I could write a decent book about what’s wrong with the Drew Westen piece. It’s really that epically bad. But it’s more than bad. It’s bad in a way that kind of perfectly illustrates everything I’ve ever written about progressive politics. It’s bad in a way that I could go on about for long enough to create a book. It seems to encompass every bad idea that progressives cling to like zombie lies. It’s lazy. It’s wrong. It’s myopic and forgetful. It’s stupid. It’s counter-factual. It involves magical thinking. It’s ungenerous and uncharitable. And it raises the power of rhetoric above the power of organizing. And, yet, it is so incredibly seductive, isn’t it?

It needs to be demolished. I wish I had the time and money to demolish it.”

Seriously (this is me talking now) that article was serious Emoprog porn XXX-rated. Its no wonder they are spreading it far and wide.

    • August 9, 2011 at 5:55 am

It is a stupid article. Toward the end he uses complete Republican talking points, talking about the president not having any experience and not having done anything before except serving in the U.S. Senate and the Illinois Senate voiting present. Then he goes on to talk about a character defect. I was livid when I read that piece of mess.

He asks what has he written except his two books. As if any other president has done more than that before coming to the office. It is clear that these people still don’t know how to take this president and so they go for the inane personal insults.

It was pure garbage to me.

I watched a video of Israeli protest, the people were protesting about the high cost of living and the big gap between the rich and poor.
They out protesting by the thousands and we the american people protest is to bash Obama, not march in the street like Israeli.
I don’t know what happen to the democrat party we are letting Israeli beat us in the fight for justice. Where are the thousands of people on the Hill protesting, that would help obama in the fight for Jobs, taxing the rich, and more. He’s waiting on Us to act and then he will have the power to act.
We need to be heard just like the teaparty. Oh! silly me,all the activist to busy bashing Obama, they don’t have time, have to be seen on TV for bashing the President. (They have to make that bash Obama money) Tavis and West on a bash the President bus tour, and the rest of those Obama supporter (You know the ones cable News keep saying that he’s losing every two days) are on tv, blogs, facebook, twitter, bashing him.. The Republicans don’t have to beat Obama the Democrat are doing a good job for them.

Thank God President Obama is not waiting for us to act. He is in the office each day working for the American people every step of the way. He is doing his job. What makes his job more rewarding is that we letting him know that we appreciate his efforts which enables him to move along more easily, and to endure the obstacles he face each day. We each can find out what is going on and to call our congress person every day, me included. He has told us what to do. It is not for that one time that he asked us to call. We have gotten the instructions, let us not treat it as a one time deal. Jam the phone lines, email them , tweet them when they are working. We did not march to get the debt ceiling raise but we called, emailed, tweet until we got enough people in Congress to agree to get the job done. Ignore the chatter as best as you can , plug your ears, work your fingers like you would work your feet if you were marching in the street.

Smiley and West are trying to obtain relevancy; don’t buy into those wannabes. Ignore their azzes. They are not doing anything to promote a more perfect union for the people, just hating is their MO.

Cornell West and Tavis Smiley are both going to become persona non grata in the AA community, if they continue on their destructive “Bash Obama Tour.” My younger sister was over the moon when she met West on a book signing tour a few years back, and she was always quoting passages from his book” Democracy Matters.” Now she has done a complete about face; West is as toxic as the tea party, to her now, and I can’t repeat here what she said about Tavis. I’m ready to put my marching boots back on, and head to Washington. We need something even bigger than the “One Nation Rally” we had last year. We need a “I support my President Rally.” OT what the hell in going on in England?

I believe it’s protests over police brutality. A young man was fatally shot by the police for unclear reasons.

I firmly believe that part of what is going on now is an effort to beat the president’s supporters down, to promote cynicism and ultimately to discourage us from trying. The R’s and the media knew that people were tiring of the debt ceiling debate and just as we were barely recovering from that effort, they deliberately attacked again, gleefully using S&P’s stupidity against the president, rather than focusing on the deficiencies of the agency itself or the deliberate Republican efforts to precipitate this crisis. They are hoping to so destroy the president so that Romney will sail in and then his corporate buddies will suddenly discover millions of jobs they can create with the money they’ve salted away and the R’s will be declared the saviors of the economy in perpetuity. To beat that plan, we have to first resolve to never be defeated, now matter how dark a given time may be because WE are the only ones who can stop them. We can come here to recover energy, but we can never, ever give up. Every good to great president has endured dark moments in his term when it must have seemed as if everything were conspiring to bring him down. The great ones kept going and so will President Obama. Second, we’ve go to make sure that his election fund grows geometrically, so that it can never be said that he’s losing supporters. Third, we’ve go to keep flooding the phones and faxes the the creatures in Congress to let them know that we’re not fooled by their shenanigans and we know who’s at fault and will be watching..watching.. watching for them to pass a SIGNIFICANT jobs bill. Fourth, WE have to be the fourth estate, since the once originally envisioned by our founders is dead. In the place of the media, which has prostituted itself to its corporate owners, we have to deliver the truth to neighbors, friends, cities, counties, states and across the country through all the personal media at our disposal. Fifth, we can attend all town hall meetings and be the noisy, persistent ones, presenting facts, not emotions to whatever dullard it’s our misfortune to have representing our districts. Sure we can march and that will make us feel good and possibly draw the attention of the local media, but it will never be covered nationally and even if two teabaggers show up, they will be the news. That’s the fact of life and its why we–the new Fourth Estate– must think strategically. Register voters. Talk to them. Knock on doors. And never give up. Remember what then Senator Obama said to his supporters when he captured the nomination–“Now that we’ve come so far, we have to win.” Words to live by.

Did anyone see Morning Joe today? He was his insufferable empty barrel self as usual, But now I see where some fairweather democrats and ignorant populace who either don’t have the time or will to search for truth or just swallow all lies hook, line, and sinker. He blamed President Obama for the Newsweek cover of Michele Bachmann entitled “The Queen of Rage” where she looks like the nutjob she is and portrays. I wonder when President Obama morphed into Tina Brown. ( Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Beast and Newsweek) He kept yelling that during the campaign and even in his presidency there has never been a bad picture of President Obama and he considers that highly suspect and suspicious. Uhhhhh…. Oh ye King of the Douchebags that’s because President Obama isn’t inherently a crazy, psychotic, insane nutjob. Plus he doesn’t look or sound crazy so why would he pose for a picture or walk about looking like something that walked out of a horror movie?

He also blamed President Obama for turning 50 and having a birthday party during a “crisis.” Saying that during a crisis at least you could count on George Bush to show up. Helloooooooo…… Katrina anyone? Bush didn’t visit New Orleans for more than 72 hours, vacationed and lollygagged in Texas and when he finally showed up it was to conduct a flyover. Yeah… that’s the guy one can count on during a crisis. Lizz Winstead of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart blasted his behind on twitter and kept tweeting and tweeting Joe calling him out on his revisionist history. She told him you might not like President Obama and want to fundamentally destroy him, but don’t you dare lie about him and history. She tweeted a picture of Bush and McCain during the Katrina mess, yakking it up, eating cake, and having a blast and asked Joe where the heck was his criticism then? Other journalists and democratic strategists got in on the action also calling Joe Scaborough out on his lies. It’s easy to see how some people believe his brand of lies and BS. He does a very sly job of not coming off as an ideologue and portraying himself as the sensible smart middle of the road former congressman who “calls” out both sides. And with his band of idiots; Willie, Mika, and Mike agreeing with him on every point and nodding like bobbleheaded dolls only enhances his “credibility” to the non discerning average voter.

Wow. Thanks, UT. What this does is just show us how desperate he is. As more people realize that the manufactured crisis was indeed caused by the GOP, Scarborough seeks to avert their attention with his silly utterances. Out of despration he over reaches, hence the push back he is getting on twitter.

The current AP/Yahoo! blurb headline is that President Obama has to work on being more like St. Ronnie when it comes to “staging his image.” Not even kidding. So much for leading, governing, and such. Get more into stagecraft.

Heh, heh I remember Ronnie and the jelly beans. Maybe he should bring glamour back to he WH like the Regans did, by throwing a fancy ball or two during a recession.

I think the President I voted for in 2008 is just fine, he don’t need to be like Ronald Reagen in any way.
