NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguia greets President Obama during the National Council of La Raza annual conference luncheon at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, July 25

The audience applauded when President Obama said some people want him to bypass Congress and sign an executive order on immigration. “And believe me, right now, dealing with Congress …. the idea,” he smiled as the crowd started chanting, “Yes, you can.”

“Believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting,” he repeated as the crowd laughed.

To my other democratic sisters and brothers this rant and proposal is not about dividing its about holding our officials accountable. Im Calling and tweeting ABout the CBC. either you support this president efforts or we will take support from you. President Obama has 88% support from the AA community and we want our voice heard from the representation we have in congress, we calling for the bashing to stop, the on air disrespect and the disrespect coming from the left. We will hold the dems hostage for not obeying our wishes. AA has supported the democratic party faithfully and all interest groups. Now its time to fight for our issues. Issues # 1 stop the disrespect coming from the left and right speak up or we will speak for better dems. Some CBC members has been in office for decades and now they want to jump on thr band wagon with the left. 2012 we can call for primaries of better dems. Enough is Enough !

Conyers is getting primaried. I believe his district has largely changed under re-districting so he won’t be able to rely on the same folks who have been voting for him for 30 years but rather have to stump a bit. It could be interesting.

While running around the House for headphones to hear the speech, I basically MISSED the speech:) I figure some kind soul will post it later.

PBO still talking about revenues. His speech today is still the same as Friday nights. I don’t know how that fits in with Reids plan but PBO’s talking points are still the same. Sounds like “no deal without revenues.”

Could be a case of “If he agreed to it than the GOP would automatically say no”. And by still making his same case, than this Reid plan will seem as the middle ground rather than the new Dem negotiation starting point. Try and frame the Reid plan as the middle ground – GOP get their cuts without revenues, Dems save Medicare and Social Security and get extension past 2012 election.

Andrea Mitchell described President Obama at his appearance today as “combative”, which I found an inter—-esting choice of words—-and then aired a segment where he wasn’t being combative at all—-just restating what he has previously said about this matter.

      • July 25, 2011 at 2:47 pm

Andrea Mitchell is an ass who wouldn’t know true emotions if they hauled off and smacked her across her botox enhanced face. She can suck it. I don’t know how her show is still on. Nobody watches it. It’s on in the middle of the day 🙄

        • July 25, 2011 at 4:30 pm

Fine with me if he is combative, I want the President to fight for the poor and middle class, me. I want him to tell what he have been dealing with with that spineless Boehner and his crazy ass Tea Party.

Hi Chip. Could you post this chart and/or a link to James Fallows’ article? It would be great if we could get everyone who visits this page, has a facebook and twitter account, to help spread this information far and wide.

“The Chart That Should Accompany All Discussions of the Debt Ceiling.” http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/07/the-chart-that-should-accompany-all-discussions-of-the-debt-ceiling/242484/

This is George W. Bush’s debt that Teathugs want me, you, seniors, the poor, students to pay for. It’s ridiculous. It’s evil. It’s treasonous.

PBO says he wishes he could bypass congress and do what he wants in terms of immigration and other things. The audience started cheering “YES YOU CAN, YES YOU CAN” for less than a minute. PBO laughed and calmed them down and is now calling out the repugs who sponsored the Dream Act but then voted against it : ” Usually, if I come out in favor of it, then half of congress is against it. Have you guys noticed that?”– Audience laughed. PBO let them know that he is with them and the Dems are with the Hispanics, but “Don’t forget” the repugs need heat too, not just the Dems and him. Translation: Mofos, DON’T get it twisted. I’ve been on your side from the beginning! Y’all need to fight the true enemies, not me.

What a hard time this is for our country! The good thing is that the Rehensiblepublicans have shown who they really are. Eric Cantor had the suggestion that college students should start paying the interest on their student loans while they are still in college. As for Jane Hamsher, the old addage, “never trust a person who has a mullet” works for me.

Is it just me? But where is Daddy Warbucks? Haven’t seen him in a while. What’s he been up to? I miss him? I see a new bald guy but he’s younger than Daddy W and shorter.

I haven’t seen him in a while but then again, Pres hasn’t been out too much lately (apart from his townhall last week). I believe I last saw Daddy Warbucks when our President was out in Ohio. I think these guys work in shifts because they have the most stressful job.

Off Topic: Random thought quoting from Albert Einstein’s wiki page, re: 1) his “naturalized” US citizenship and 2) his correspondence with W.E.B. DuBois.

What makes the new arrival devoted to this country is the democratic trait among the people. No one humbles himself before another person or class. . . American youth has the good fortune not to have its outlook troubled by outworn traditions.

As a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People NAACP at Princeton who campaigned for the civil rights of African Americans, Einstein corresponded with civil rights activist W. E. B. Du Bois, and in 1946 Einstein called racism America’s “worst disease”. He later stated, “Race prejudice has unfortunately become an American tradition which is uncritically handed down from one generation to the next. The only remedies are enlightenment and education”.

Wouldn’t it be nice to HAVE A BLOCK PARTY right in front the White House with signs that read READ “50 MORE”

Hope OFA routes the celebration to the white house:-)

      OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!

I know why we are not demonstrating in D.C…….we are either working, looking for work, taking care of grandchildren or children, or otherwise constructively occupied. Also, there are no astroturf groups to bus people to D.C. Those groups two years ago gathered up the lazy and disgruntled, gave the signs, and claimed a grass roots movement. We ARE a grass roots movement with no outside group sponsoring us. We are busy people who can’t take time off without pay to protest. That is just one way we are different from the teapartiers.
I read of a lot of people on this site who are being constructive in their own communities, an as we learned in 2010, that is where the battle is. That’s where we lost that election.
Our darling Joe Biden will do a bangup job at the fundraisers tonight…I KNOW that! All these fundraisers can be rescheduled. There is a hard and fast deadline for this thing. The Rethugs are scared of our President and his fundrasigin prowess, but they can’t stop him indefinitely.

Carolyn, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap!!! For REAL!! Folks really are struggling to make ends meet. Not that protests aren’t important. but the work needs to be done locally.

I’m raising a child with special needs, I’m underemployed battling similar ignorance to the Rethugs on my job, I must keep healthy food on the table and a non-leaking roof over our heads. I have a “thank God it’s paid for” 8 yr old car that has a gas tank that needs GAS!!! I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off.

I do what I can where I am and when I can. And even then, I feel it’s not enough. But I also know that there are parents who are struggling even more than I am. Who need the little that I do just as much, if not more!

BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED!! I forget who said that. But it’s oh, so true. Work with your neighbors, keep them informed. Go to the mall and Register some young folks who will be 18 by Nov 6, 2012.
