bits & pieces

Hiya everyone, sorry I wasn’t able to be around much yesterday, hopefully I’ll catch up later today. Just to say, thanks so much for the great response to the ‘Here we go again‘ post below – but honestly, I can’t take any credit at all for its content, that’s down to the excellent work being done by bloggers like:

Update – thanks Hopefruit:

Smartypants: Some of you probably read a recent article by Eclectablog titled Why I will never post another word at My.Firedoglake.com. He also posted it at Daily Kos.

Apparently Hamsher saw it because according to this post at Angry Black Lady, he got the following email from one of her employees:

The chances of you becoming a paid front pager somewhere have dropped significantly … Jane will never forget and she will bad mouth you to the major blog owners if your name comes up. She is a friend of Marcos [sic] and Josh Marshall and the guys who run the American Prospect and pretty much anyone on the liberal side of the blogs and you’ve made a major career fuck up.

…. It’s past time for folks to wake up and smell the rancid brew this woman is creating …. What this email does expose is her motives and strategy. I think it’s high time that word got out and people started to ask proprietors at blogs like Daily Kos, Think Progress and the American Prospect to stand up and show their independence by denouncing Hamsher and any associations they might have had with her.

…. If the cost of being a paid liberal blogger is kowtowing to someone who will try to destroy your career if you say something negative about her, I won’t pay that price. I probably make more money in my day job than Jane does keeping the internet safe from pragprog Obama supporters and I can blog circles around her doing it as a hobby.

****

Read the full post here – and read Eclectablog on his experience here.

And see this post from Smartypants from June about Matt Osborne – he was “offered a paid writing gig in “the movement” (his term), but was told that if he took it, he would have to dial back the criticism of Hamsher”. (See Osborne’s Tweets from Netroots Nations here – thanks Angry Black Lady)

****

A writer at ExiledOnline had a similar experience to Eclectablog – see here

“….. Within minutes after this article was posted, Michael Whitney of Firedoglake sent Mike Elk, author of this article, the classic Hollywood death-knell: “You’ll never work in this town again.” Whitney, who once ran a labor blog for Firedoglake until it was taken down because it was so poorly put together and drew such anemic traffic, now serves as Vice President of the Membership Board for Firedoglake. Apparently one of his duties is acting as Hamsher’s hall monitor, policing the internet for anyone not sufficiently worshipful of his employer.”

****

BWD posted a Deepak Chopra article today at The Only Adult In The Room (see below) which made me think of this line from the Moderate Left link above. It was a reference to Hamsher teaming up with Grover Norquist in their anti-Rahm Emanuel campaign and her working against the President’s healthcare reform efforts (remember, she teamed up with the Tea Party on that issue: see here):

“She is now working with people who do not wish to improve the Obama Administration, but instead wish to destroy it.”

And that’s been the way since day one, even before he had a chance to ‘betray!’ them. She and her Firedogfake sheeple will team up with literally anyone to try to defeat the President in 2012 – even Norquist and the Tea Party!!- regardless of the consequences for America. And still they call themselves progressives.

Any way, here are some extracts from that Chopra article:

Deepak Chopra: One of the virtues of being on the liberal side of politics is that total obedience isn’t required …. In a political climate where it feels as if the inmates are running the asylum – as in the current Republican threat to default on America’s debt – the prevailing sanity of President Obama is something that others and I have taken for granted.

We cannot afford that luxury any more, I’m afraid.

For many reasons, this is the moment when loyalty is going to count the most. That’s a hard sentence to write. Liberal politics is based on a non-regimented, all-inclusive approach to democracy. Freedom of thought is paramount. But certain harsh realities must be faced. For thirty years and more, the progressive tradition has been severely undermined, dating back to Nixon’s “Southern strategy” (coddle the racists) and Ronald Reagan’s smiling reactionary agenda (AIDS victims deserve what they get), through the first President Bush’s Willie Horton strategy (another boost for racism) and the second President Bush’s deceptive “compassionate conservatism.”

It was such a relief to return to humane, non-ideological governance when President Obama won in 2008 that we underestimated the debasing effect that two generations of right-wing indoctrination has had …

…. all of us who have taken advantage of our liberal heritage to question and criticize President Obama need to step back and consider the radical nature of the opposition, from the Supreme Court down to the local precinct … …. Since 9/11, playing upon fear has been wildly successful for the right wing – it re-elected a catastrophic president…

If ever there was a time to stand behind the captain, this is it. Not because pluralism and free expression are wrong. They aren’t and never will be. But like Churchill calling upon a coalition cabinet in the depth of the war years, it’s paramount that we see the greater danger for what it is. Attention was drawn to the cover of a recent issue of the Economist, which showed a tall President Obama towering over a squabbling handful of pygmy Republican rivals for the presidency. The headline read, “He Could Still Lose.” We need to remember that if that were to happen, it wouldn’t be because President Obama made too many mistakes or failed to pass a sufficiently liberal agenda. The reason would be that all of us forgot the 30-year reign of reactionary administrations (minus the Clinton years) and the power of debased politics to keep coming back, again and again.

Apparently, one of Hamsher’s employees reportedly sent Eclectablog a vindictive email message, after he posted his article about Hamsher/FDL. The alleged email read:

/// “The chances of you becoming a paid front pager somewhere have dropped significantly … Jane will never forget and she will bad mouth you to the major blog owners if your name comes up. She is a friend of Marcos [sic] and Josh Marshall and the guys who run the American Prospect and pretty much anyone on the liberal side of the blogs and you’ve made a major career fuck up.” ///

She doesn’t have that much power. She likes to think so. She sounds like a vile, vindictative person. I am sure Eclectablog is shaking in his boots already.

People are fast catching on to the Hamsher and the Greens. They will all soon have to start looking for jobs in the real world.

Hopefruit, I read that piece. I have been trying to find ever article ever written on this issue of Jane’s practices. I just keep sending them to everyone on msnbc and other sites.

That woman has got to go. If someone does not cover this issue on msnbc, it means that the libs are just as dishonest as the repugs. That is the reason I was so excited about Lawrence last week. That is the first time I have seen a newscaster putting one of his “own” on trial. Since Lawrence has taken on Adam, I am hoping he will continue to do more of the same next week.

Chips, Thanks for all of the great postings. You are a font of fabulous information. dr

Good morning Chips and TOD family. It is a beautiful Sunday here in MT. Looks that way in DC too. Love those pictures of our wonderful First Family.

Chips, I know that others wrote those articles and found the graphs but you put it all together in easy to read form. Thank you so much.

Honestly Chipsticks, were it not for the time, energy and hard work you put into gathering all this information from “tons” of sites and bringing it here, many of us would remain woefully uninformed. What you contribute to our education and the positive motivation you inspire is priceless. You are priceless.

i must say that i am new to these so-called progressive liberals….but it is easy to see thru it all…

back in the day..they were called provacateurs….folks whose sole purpose was to create confusion and chaos….with the use of misinformation…and lies.

that is why a blog of this type is so important to debunk the lies….and misinformation….

in the Black Community these so-called liberal prgresssive do not get much traction because they are not readily trusted…it is the so called liberal progresssives of a darker hue…who can do the damage there…

….i have passed this blog on to my family….friends….neighbors and co-workers….because it is essential to get the truth out…to provide another point of view….

And yesss…Chips……..you do inspire positive motivation…but more importantly..you arm us with information so that we can fight against the lies and distortions…..and for the members of this blog…i feel that you support me on those days when i need to be supported…and for that i thank you….

Chips you never take credit for anything! You put all that together, I don’t know how you do it. It was perfect. You have so much integrity 🙂

Unfortunately, Deepak Chopra has been quite as damaging in his denigration and demeaning of PBO in the past year! He was screaming just barely a year ago that PBO must not be re-elected and that he should be a one term president because he had “failed”!

I wonder what has caused this good friend of Arianna Huffington’s to suddenly change his mind!

Sorry, but I remain as suspicious of Chopra as I do the other opportunists who keep trading on PBO’s name!

That article disgusted me. She talked about the President like he was a little boy who had now idea what his mother was going through. As far as I know, the author of the book never made a big deal about the insurance thing, why is it so important to KP? Just because someone has correspondence between the insurance and PBO’s mom does not mean she wasn’t being rejected for a pre existing condition. PBO even said she was between jobs at the time. These right wingers get on my nerves!

It’s because President Obama’s adversaries have nothing of substance to use against him. So they scurry around with a magnifying glass looking for any teeny, tiny insignificant tidbit they think they can use. It makes these writers appear desperate and ridiculous.

        July 17, 2011 at 3:52 pm

Oh. My. God. We’ve long known that Kathleen Parker is a Paid Propagandist for BigMoney, but that’s such a shoddy hit piece even by her/Repub standards of lameness. She contradicts herself within her own smear job. She quotes PRESIDENT (notice she just says “Obama”…you know, the man that was democratically elected in a landslide) Obama:

““I will never forget my own mother, as she fought cancer in her final months, having to worry about whether her insurance would refuse to pay for her treatment,” Obama told a sympathetic nation.”

Then Parker later says about the above quote:

“If only it had been true.

It is too much to say that Obama told an intentionally tall tale to mislead the public. But it is also incorrect to say that he told a true story.”

HUH?!? He said his mother had to “worry” about insurance coverage. He didn’t say she never received any coverage. He did tell a true story. Plus, because she received some coverage from one company, doesn’t mean it was sufficient amounts or that she wasn’t turned down by others.

The only one not telling the truth in this is Kathleen Parker, and the proof is within her own writing! It never ceases to amaze me how much a Repub can fail so fantastically, and never have any consequence. She should be fired immediately for such a piece of trash “article.”

Hey Chipsticks, let’s face it girl :), due credit must be given to you for the magnificent way in which you have assembled all of the “excellent work being done by bloggers” and the way you have helped to exposed to an even greater level the despicable work of Hamsher, Green, and Greenwald (and perhaps even others) in their soon-to-be- failed attempt to bring down the President while making money of his real base.
I am just in awe of the information that’s now coming out to expose those swindlers. I agree with everyone else commenting today, we must continue to expose the handlers of the garbage that’s being spewed. We must keep the heat on and not let up!

  15. July 17, 2011 at 1:14 pm

I commented on Chopra’s piece on the “dalai lama” thread. I had been very disappointed in Deepak when he had started whining about PBO. Glad to see he’s experienced some clarity and come back around. Better late than never. Hopefully the choices will become even more plain to the masses as we move closer to November 2012. Sitting around complaining from the sidelines is a luxury we can’t afford. We’re in a period of Reconstruction and we need all hands on deck.

As for the Professionally Disgruntled Left — they’re sealing their own fates. Their firebagging is so similar to teabagging that they’re becoming parodies of themselves. The tactics described by the Hamsherites resemble those employed by Palin’s disciples — the same high-schoolish petty, personal bullying. The same rigidity, the same stupidity.

They’re gonna sooooo be left in the dust. History isn’t on their side.

    • July 17, 2011 at 2:24 pm

PD…I think it’s because of the push back the unPL are getting on twitter and the like.

People like Jane and Adam were going on cable shows taking full ownership of the democratic party, until the true party woke up and said “You don’t speak for me”.

  16. July 17, 2011 at 1:18 pm

I must say again, that Chopra piece is pure genius. It’s really a one-stop shopping explanation for where we are and how we got here. It’s an excellent summary and should be spread far and wide.

First of all, thanks Chips for all that you do. Thank you for spreading your arms far and wide to collate factual, important and relevant information for all of us here at TOD. Thank you for the great bloggers, writers and journalists you have opened our eyes and minds too. Each and everyone of them have been A+.

Now on to Jane Hamsher and her minions. These miscreants think that it is their right to threaten anyone who is brave and courageous enough to point out their outright lies, corruption, heavy handedness, thuggishness and blueprint for collusion with the Grover Norquist’s of this world to destroy the middle and working class of America. What petty, barbaric creature goes around threatening a person’s job or future career options? Just because one is a so called “progressive” voice of the left, does not mean that one shouldn’t be called out when one is peddling harmful and outrageous lies. The beautiful thing about being a democrat, is that we are a big tent party. We have liberals and blue dogs. We know that our liberals come from states where their senators are more free to push the legislative boundaries and our blue dogs come from states where their senators have to be a little more restrained. We are not the republican party where all members sign a pledge and take an oath to adhere to some warped dogma. As democrats and as individuals we call out lies, untruths, falsities, and complete bullshit wherever and whenever we see it; even if that atrocity is committed by those on our side of the aisle.

I was on twitter yesterday and this so called liberal blogger that follows the Jane Hamsher and Adam Green doctrine tweeted her followers that they should petition President Obama because according to Green, in his press conference the President said he would slash and burn SS and Medicare. I called her out on her lies and she got huffy when she noticed that I had been calling her overlords Jane Hamsher and Adam Green out. She began threatening and trying to intimidate me, saying she was a “powerful” liberal blogger who could crush me on twitter with her thousands of followers because I dared to point out Hamsher’s lies. When I wouldn’t back down, she retweeted my tweets to her followers and they all jumped on the bandwagon calling me an Obamabot. ooooooh yeah I’m real frightened of being called an Obot. I wear that banner loud and proud. These weirdos get their marching orders from Hamsher and Co and they spread their tentacles far and wide to see how they can infiltrate the Obama camp and “progressive” sites to destroy President Obama and undermine the morale of his supporters. But this is where they have failed. They have met their match in we “Obamabots,” because though they call themselves “supporters” of President Obama, we know their true colors and we will NEVER hesitate to call them out. I didn’t back down, my followers on twitter retweeted my tweets and lo and behold, Hamsher’s minion SHUT UP. 2012 is too important for any of us to give up. Everyone has to do something. Twitter, Faceook, Email, Write Letters and Call. In in the Presidential race for 2012, we are dealing with a new monster: GOP, PL, Teabaggers and Firebaggers in all stripes and they are horning their weapons. However, I firmly believe in our power, because we have started a real movement to uncover lies and it is steadily gaining traction. That’s why they’re gnashing their teeth and threatening us. In the end we will prevail, because good ALWAYS triumphs over evil.

Too much work to do. Truth is on our side. There will be no retreat and no surrender…to any of them. Thanks for putting it so succinctly.

Jane Hamsandwich has NO credibility because she is working hand-in-hand with Grover FUCKING Norquist… yeah, such TRUE “progressive principles” being shown there, working with an ally of Republicans, yet we are supposed to be outraged because President Obama is working with Republicans.

Jane Hamsandwich is in denial with herself, she is no different from Rush Limbaugh except that she doesn’t have the cojones to admit that she hopes that Barack Obama fails. Heck, she’s never been an Obama supporter, she supported Hillary and would be kissing Hillary’s flatulence if Hillary were President.

UT, you hit the nail on the head. Just like on the other side, these people have picked up the habit of trying to use fear to intimidate. And I am convinced they were not prepared for the onslaught of push back they are facing. from us.

They have been peddling these lies, and though all of us here have pushed back in one form or another, I don’t believe we have done it as collectively as we are now.

That’s why it was easy to see Hamsher fly off the handle the other day calling us DMFs. They don’t know how to take us and they still won’t be able to figure us out through this election season and beyond.

We’re now in a loose, decentralized network of moderated blogs which makes our information spreading *a lot* harder to disrupt. I’m loving the clear, beautiful voice of President Obama’s base asserting itself and insisting that some of President Obama’s virulent detractors on the left merely speak for themselves rather than all of us. That people would attempt to bully, out, and harass others into tamping down criticism of Hamsher and other PL is unfortunately indicative of the authoritarian and skewed nature of what is taking place in that ultra-toxic corner of the blogosphere. Thanks to everyone sooooooo much for standing up to the bullies and refusing to allow other people to just hijack our voices. Indeed, yes we can!

You are doing a wonderful job along with people on this blog and others in getting the word out about these horrible people!!!
We’re now getting sunlight on Rupert Murdoch’s empire too, and look what’s happening! Another arrest this morning…..can James Murdoch’s be far behind? Also, the President and others have brought the House Republicans’ true colors out for everyone to see…..they only succeed when they operate in darkness. They cannot stand the light!

Man, this feels to me like “let’s clean out the shit” day!! The faux progs, Glenn Beck neutered, ALEC beginning to be exposed, recall elections all over the place,NOW investigations, arrests, FBI/DoJ investigations here….and now this!http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/07/17/271316/breaking-uk-fraud-watchdog-opens-news-international-probe/ AH! The noose tightens some more. It’s a great day to be alive to see this justice moving in the right direction for a change! After we all got the screws put to us with Bush economic meltdowns, and bad news, seemingly day after day about all that entailed….seems like the tide is turning towards equal justice. Is it just me, or do you feel it too? Sweet Jesus. That was a long time coming, but it feels good.

It really is a “let’s clean out the shit” day! Not only are faux progs getting their just desserts but News of the World Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks got arrested today because she is suspected of having a hand in the phone hacking scandal and bribing various law enforcement types. Also the head of the British National Police has just resigned because of his connection to Murdoch and possible bribery by Murdoch. The quagmire deepens.

I feel that our faith of good and just people living and treating other human beings with respect, care, compassion, and truth will win over evil deeds. I must confess that I have my best friend who prays with me daily about the wrongs that we see happening. Please do not be upset with me about what I am going to say.

I hurt so much at times that I cry, cry out loud to a Higher Power to clean up the mess. I pray that I must: “Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong, for like the grass they will soon wither, like the green plants they will soon die away.”(when I am crying so much in my musicroom where I go and pray and medidate). I have called out names and situations, and my family here, I have seen powerful things happening. So we will live our best selves in goodness of heart, and it will work out. I believe that. I have seen people do some amazingly nasty things to me and my family, and these truths are so right on. We are going to be fine. I believe that in my heart. We have not hurt anyone, so take heart, things will come out and those who have hurt people will have an accounting to answer to bigtime. Think on good things. I love you all.

Yes, TOD family. We have our work cut out for us. All this HATE directed toward PBO and his followers is not surpising to the President. He anticipated this. He warned us in 2008 that we would meet great resistance and not necessarily just from the RIGTWING. After all we do live in America where just a few decades ago lynchings were still popular in our country. We will PERSEVERE and TRIUMPH over EVIL. I trully believe this.

I was out today registering new voters at major parks and Dowtown with local OFA supporters here in Columbus, Ohio. Today was a National Day of Action for Obama for America. We know what we are up against. These very same new voters and supporters are the ones the enemy will try to keep from voting in 2012. Even with all the new voting laws being passed to supress Democratic turnout we are not allowing that to stop us from doing what is right and lawful. WE WILL PREVAIL….YES WE WILL!!!! Obama/Biden 2012!!

FYi, the guy who shared his experience at Netroots Nation is Matt (not John) Osborne. He writes for Crooks and Liars, too. Here’s a chirpstory I created from his tweets from Netroots Nation. http://chirpstory.com/li/1822

    Great round-up, btw. 🙂
