Happy Friday Chips and TOD family. Can’t wait to see The Only Adult in The Room schools these reporters and repubs.

Boner gave a statement did anyone here it?

  2. July 15, 2011 at 10:39 am

I notice the msm does not ask everyone and their mother about what should the president say?

Maybe bc corporate media might lose money if their is a default and this time might be rooting for the president. Just saying!

Washington searches for ‘plan B’ on debt ceiling

    ================================================

As Republicans continue to play games with America’s credit rating, Standard & Poors gets serious, opening into a window into why President Obama was seeking that big, $4 trillion deal.

Some Republicans may be having second thoughts, and Eric Cantor may have finally found a way to shut up in the White House meeting, but the debt limit crisis that’s threatening America’s 70-year, AAA rating is far from over.

The biggest alarm came when S&P followed Moody’s in issuing a U.S. credit warning. But this one came with some demands:

    .
    .

In other words, a clean debt ceiling hike no longer will do. S&P is no longer confident that in the current political climate, significant progress could even be made on a long term debt reduction deal. So now, it’s either get it done now, or risk having the nation’s short and long term bond ratings reduced.

Now you can see why President Obama was pushing so hard for that $4 trillion deal. The White House and Democrats have been talking to the financial markets, and they understand that the expectation of U.S. bond holders was that the debt ceiling hike would not become the conflagration it is, but that the inevitable political tension might enable the U.S. to get it’s debt house in order over the long term. Now that it’s clear that Republicans are ideologically incapable of coming to the table in a serious way — so beholden are they to the ignorant, insane extremists among them, or as the folks at The Economist put it last week, the “economically illiterate and disgracefully cynical” crowd that gets its economic advice from Rush Limbaugh and Rupert “phone hacker” Murdoch’s Fox News, it looks like the grownups on both sides of the aisle are going to have to pull one hell of a Hail Mary to save the U.S. from a downgrade.

With President Obama set to hold a news conference Friday at 11 (but no further meetings with congressional leaders) — the contours of a deal appeared to be emerging from the ashes of Mitch McConnell’s cynical capitulation from earlier this week. As the Wall Street Journal explains:

    http://blog.reidreport.com/2011/07/washington-searches-for-plan-b-on-debt-ceiling/#more-25726

Ladyhawke, that is a big piece of news. That sounds pretty scary. Indeed it explains why he is pushing for the 4 trillion deal. I really think those ugly repuglicans, many of whom are racist, want this to happen because, in the end, they think that Obama will be voted out of office. The ugliness of all of this is overwhelming.

i think that those TP/Republicans want the government to default…i heard a Senator from Illinois who appeared on HardBall yesterday talk about how he does not beleve there will be dire consequences if our government goes into default…he believes that everyone is lying about what would happen if the Debt ceiling is not lifted….. the US government could just pick and choose what or who would be paid….

these folks are wacko…and they hold a significant weight in our government…

        Lord help us all..

    Ugh, Jake “ass hole” Tapper.

Tapper was such an a-hole with his posturing. Mr. President are you willing to be transparent and show leadership by telling us what exactly you will cut from Medicare and SS and if there will be a means test. Yeah Jakehole I’m willing to be transparent and let everyone watch me kick your ass!

I think I know what Tapper is always so disagreeable: too much time sucking rotten eggs.

  11. July 15, 2011 at 11:07 am

How many times does he have to tell them he won’t negotiate medicare / ss in the media.

Hah, no to whining Paul Ryan’s stupid plan.

I knew Jake Tapper would ask about the entitlement stuff…he’s been reading the blogs (esp. DKOS) – regarding the raising of the age.

Tapper, is an asshat. He disgusts me.

      July 15, 2011 at 6:57 pm

There is a huge difference between asking a question and fishing for the ‘right’ answer. Tapper is an assclown who IMO constructs his questions to achieve an answer that will support his already determined conclusion. The guy wants to ”ake up the news rather than report the news. The guys ego is bigger than his body.

good. I always love it when I find out he’s getting his what fors on twitter 🙂 It makes me realize how involved people are in the process. Sometimes it feels like we are the only ones fighting back so it’s always great when I’m reminded that just because I can’t or don’t see it, doesn’t mean that the twitterverse isn’t there and fighting right along with us. 🙂

I resisted Twitter for a long time. It just didn’t seem all that useful. Then the Arab Spring began and I really changed my mind. It takes some focus to get the hang of it but once you do, it’s very addicting because you have this constant flow of reaction to read in real time and there are many very brief but interesting takes on things.

He really called out the repubs. Speaker Boehner had some problems with his caucus. In other words, Boehner is incompetent. Ha!

    • July 15, 2011 at 3:20 pm

Re-elect President Obama and I hope we can get a real leader, as Speaker of the House. Maybe like good ole Pelosi. She is so much better than that do nothing cry baby Boehner.

The President is correct when he said that debt and deficits should be a concern for progressives as well. Exactly, if you don’t address your debt problems, you cannot start thinking about other investment spending. Every family knows this.

I loved when POTUS said “I always have hope. Don’t you remember my campaign? I have hope in the American people. Even when they’re suffering and frustrated, they always have optimism” And then he chuckled flashed that killer smile and everyone in the room began laughing. I love that he still has hope, because things will be difficult, life will kick you in the teeth and HOPE will forever keep you from sinking into despair.

    • July 15, 2011 at 11:46 am

      I loved that part too! I was just thinking about it. He is so awesome. I don’t think he could do this job if he wasn’t so optimistic. I think that can do spirit is bred in his bones. Contrary to what repugs think: yes we can isn’t some catchy slogan arbitrarily used by his campaign. It’s part of who he is, part of his very being. I really, really love him. {{{{{sigh}}}}}}
ps-still can’t get over how fucking rude Chuck was. Even Tapper the A-hole was decent enough to be respectful-despite his GOP talking points-and he said thank you after PBO answered his question. I never thought I’d see the day when Chuck sunk lower that that Repug slimeball Tapper 😡

  34. July 15, 2011 at 11:41 am

He put Chuck Todd in his place, the reality TV comment was priceless. What a man!

    • July 15, 2011 at 11:57 am

I thought it was great too! Yesterday morning after reading POB’s post on the sliminess of the media and Chuck Todd and his all GOP panel, I composed a lovely note to him that he wasn’t a true reporter and that he lacked ethics, common sense, etc. I told him that we all already knew that he was a repug but we had hoped that he would at least do the honorable thing and report the news in politics with giving it his repug slant. I told him all the things I’ve ever heard from people about the media. I told him about the comments I’ve read on blogs and articles talking about how the media is corrupt and lazy. Everything I’ve ever said about the media’s shadiness, everything I’ve ever heard about the media’s shadiness went into that email. I even told him that more and more people are turning away from cable news cause they’ve realized that it was fake: Just a bunch of innuendos and speculation with flashing lights. I told him that cable news was just a huge con job. Supposed news that’s propped up by and given it’s talking points from the big corporations that enable them. I told him shame on him and the rest of them for bringing dishonor to their so called reporting. I told them that the days of true journalists were over.
      What a punk.

      • July 15, 2011 at 12:03 pm

oh, ps- I told him he should go to Faux News like that troll Ed Henry did, as I believed it would be a great fit for him. ALSO, I said to him that I hoped-much like Ed- PBO would give him a searing smackdown before his eventual retreat to the FOXhole, too!!!!!!
pps- do you think he read that e-mail yesterday and as he was sitting in that press room, completely humiliated, he thought about that line in the e-mail? wouldn’t that be frigging awesome?!!! — hopefully he takes my advice and now goes to FOX 🙂 we certainly wouldn’t miss him 🙂 🙂

          July 15, 2011 at 12:20 pm

What would be even more perfect is, that after Todd goes to Fox, the scandal will take Rupert Murdoch down, and Fox News would be permanently removed and Henry and Todd lose their jobs and be in the unemployment line. Then they might understand what the American people are going through.

  36. 76 Andre
    July 15, 2011 at 11:45 am

What frustrates me is that GOP members knows that budget matters MUST originate (i.e. be written) in the HOUSE, not the WHITE HOUSE, but yet they crying that the President isn’t writing a bill…if they want him to do their JOB, they should pass a constitutional ammenment giving the President the power to write bills and forward to congress to vote up or down. That will slove ALL the issue they are struggling with by holding up all his job proposal in the House.

    July 15, 2011 at 11:48 am

I don’t often get to see President Obama smack down idiot reporters as I’m usually at work when he has his press conferences, but it was enjoyable watching him squash that slug Chuck Todd. Anyways, I’m definitely going to continue writing my reps to not give in to fear and cave and vote for some dumb Republican plan. President Obama did not sound enthused at all about McConnell’s plan and only credited the fact that he acknowledged that the debt ceiling needed to be raised. But conservadems can really screw us over by going along with Repubs, so they need to be our target, along with continuing pressure on Republicans.

Two things that he mentioned as being acceptable changes to SS and medicare were means testing for wealthy recipients and provider payments. Parts of what he considered “cuts” were reductions to ethanol spending and payments to other industries like the oil subsidies, etc.

He still insists on raising revenues along with any cuts, and anyone who says anything else is a liar. Congress needs to hear from us!

    • 79 DTTM
      July 15, 2011 at 11:58 am

Excellent analysis, RinaX. His best presser yet on this situation. By emphasizing that polling shows the American people are with HIM on tax increases, I think his position is clear: a deal must include revenue increases. He will not stray from that view because he already has boxed in the Repubs on their anti-revenue stance. He said as much today. And as for entitlements, clearly raising the medicare age is an idea, but just an idea, and that would be the most controversial. But means testing medicareand raising means the SS cap would be popular. Bottom line: the rich are going to have to sacrifice, period. Got it now, Rachel Maddow, Hamster, Jon Stewart? Couldn’t be any clearer.

Jerry Springer is on KTLA and he said he supports what the President is trying to do to balance the budget. He said that he’s in that top bracket and if he was told that he would have to pay a little more that he would gladly do it. That it’s not fair for him to get a pass and the people who could lest afford it get taxed more. WOW Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!

    • July 15, 2011 at 12:14 pm

There are some people who don’t mind trying to do what is right for the country. There are some people who see that you can’t ask the poor and middle class to sacrifice, but the rich, we leave them alone. That is just not fair, it is not right. And I hope and pray the American people will see that in 2012. We know what the Republicans will see, but I am talking about the common sense folks. This President have meet these Republicans more than half way. But they continue to say it is my way or no way. That is not fair. So let them stick to their way. This President is showing leadership. Boehner is showing he is scare of his own party, he is scared of Cantor. You know talking about Springer, I remember when GW Bush was doing his tax cuts for the rich, I remember Cher was on tv Larry King and she said she didn’t need those tax cuts. But Bush gave them to the rich anyway. And they were not paid for.

  42. 90 Anonymous
    July 15, 2011 at 11:56 am

What is potentially interesting is that the GOP would probably benefit more from the $4T deal given there is a majority of Republicans who agree with a balanced approach over the fact that any SS/Medicare/Medicaid cuts are incredibly unpopular and would be attacked and easily demagogued against. So if McConnell and Boehner were politicaly smart they’d take the big deal – not to mention it would be easy to lower the same taxes in the future compared to making any changes to entitlements in any stand alone bill.

    • July 15, 2011 at 3:15 pm

But Anonymous, first the people will have to see what it is the President was talking about doing to Medicare/Medicaid. O’Donnell said Bill Clinton made cuts to Medicare and Medicaid in 93, and the Democratic Party said not a word. They for sure didn’t go after Clinton like they went after Obama. Why was that, I wonder?

      Crew: hahahahahahaha
Crew Leader: well Mr. Pres, we have three bathrooms, a gym, several bedrooms….. so in terms of spacious housing outside of earth, this is pretty good.

Lisa I also think he gets better and better looking……it’s that “distinguished” thing that seems to be reserved for men. Looking back, he sometimes looked SO young, definitely younger than I perceived him to be. I’ve always thought him wise beyond his years, wisdom not being something I readily attribute to younger people. I think that is why his youthful appearance always threw me.

I know if I had been a classmate, I would have had one serious crush on him…..putty, although probably no chance that it would have been in his hands 😉

I can never say it enough, he is such an incredible human being. Such a fine example of the human potential for excellence.

Too bad a large fraction of the American public can’t see the wonderful job he is doing in the Whitehouse, but they do LOVE his personality according to recent polls showing his personal likability to be at 71%. Folks that’s over 2/3rds of the nation which would include many Conservatives. ThankGod we have him hired as our HIGHEST public servant. We must re-elect this man. Obama/Biden 2012!!

    ==excerpt==

So, now it’s on to Plan B, which is Mitch McConnell’s pass-the-buck plan to raise the debt ceiling by voting not to do so. The president is perfectly happy to let McConnell save a little face:

During their Wednesday meeting, Mr. Obama commended Mr. McConnell for his proposal, Democratic officials familiar with the meeting said. He also didn’t bristle at the notion of being responsible for raising the debt ceiling. “If Senator McConnell wants me to wear the jacket for that, I’m happy to wear the jacket,” Mr. Obama said, according to the Democratic officials.

Why would he bristle? He set the GOP up, and they played their parts like unwitting fools.

I’ve just been on twitter and these faux progressives are getting their asses handed to them on a huge platter. TOD family began the backlash and it has grown to epic proportions. Jane Hamsher (twitter handle @janehamsher) is now being hammered by people in the media for her constant lies. She says she’s now going to support Ron Paul for President. This is who is supposed to be a “progressive.” Also Adam Green of PCCC I believe (twitter handle @AdamGreenOnline) has been receiving mega backlash because he sent a mass email to his subscribers and told his followers that PBO is definitely slashing medicare for old people and medicaid for poor people. He said POTUS told republicans that’s what he’s going to do. Then he asked for donations to continue the fight to defeat PBO. A bunch of his subscribers unsubscribed from his list and blog in mass exodus. They took to twitter and facebook and lambasted the crap out of him. Today was funny!. Joy Ann Reid of TheReidReport (She’s amazing by the way) sent him a twitter bitchslap, telling him to never send her an email soliciting for donations while lying about POTUS and sticking up for uber wealthy folks. Her tweets got retweeted and the mini war began. A lot of Obots began lambasting him and he got huffy calling Reid and the rest of us liars. His followers thought they could insult her and POTUS and get away with it but people are hitting back at them with information, news articles, videos about PBO’s mastery of the debt ceiling debates and his TRUE words at the press conference. We know we’re getting somewhere when progressive types in the media call out the BS that their colleagues are peddling. Congratulations Obots!

      July 15, 2011 at 3:49 pm

Yes I have a few questions myself…..there’s no much to learn.

I-How do you post a link to your message?

-How to you send a message to multiple people?

-What is the hashtag P2 means? I see it often.

      • 159 utaustinliberal
        July 15, 2011 at 4:39 pm

        Hey ChristiMtl.

        1. Hashtag P2 is used to trend a topic by democrats to democrats and the twitter verse. So P2 is for democrats or messages about what democrats are doing or when you want to write stuff and want it to trend along with other democratic tweets or want democrats to sit up and do something about the GOP. It’s just a democratic party tag.

        2. If you want to paste a link with your message, first go the site you got the news from, on the web address bar where the the http appears, you rightclick on it, click COPY and then go back to twitter write your message and right click, click PASTE, your link appears, twitter shortens your link and you tweet.

For example. I want to tell people how fantastic PBO is on healthcare and I saw this great article on healthcare on whitehouse.gov So I go to http://www.whitehouse.gov click on the article and the web adress that might appear in the web address bar could be http://www.whitehouse.gov/healthcareisawesome. So I right click on that web adress bar, a box pops out and I click COPY. I then go to twitter, write my message, right click and a box appears. I click PASTE and the link appears (Twitter will shorten the link) and then I click the TWEET button and voila, my followers can see my message along with the link for what I was tweeting about.

        3. To send a message to multiple people, then just use their twitter handle. For example if you want to send a message to me, Proud of Obama and Hachiko. You would do this : @utaustinliberal @LiberalPhenom @marabout40 and then write your message after our twitter names and TWEET your message.

Hopefully this helps. If you have more questions, need more help, don’t understand something I wrote, or If I misunderstood a part of your question, don’t forget to ask it again. 😀

Remember when you use the @ before someone’s twitter name, they get your tweet. So if you want to say something directly to Chuck Todd, or you want to refer to him and make sure he sees it, you’d include @chucktodd somewhere in your tweet. If you want to find someone’s twitter name, just put their name in the search box and see what comes up.

We’ve been using the hashtag #GOPFAIL and #mediafail pretty consistently at the end of our tweets. Even though it may not be trending, it’s still a good way to push it as a common category.

What really matters is who you follow. That’s what shows up in your running stream or “timeline,” in addition to tweets that have been retweeted by someone you follow. The list of who you follow will sort of grow organically as you read retweets and look at suggestions that twitter comes up with for you in the right column.

FROM MEDIA MATTERS ACTION NETWORK (includes video)

Huh? Cantor Describes Default As A “Risk That I’m Not Willing To Take”

    =======================================================

There’s a lot of noise coming out of the beltway these days, but the fundamentals of the looming default crisis are clear: President Obama asked Congress to perform its routine obligation of increasing the ceiling, and Republicans decided to use the creditworthiness of the United States as leverage to secure large cuts in the federal budget. Considering the situation, it was perplexing to see Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) on the House floor today describing the possible failure to increase the debt ceiling as a “risk that I’m not willing to take.”

CANTOR: I don’t want to pass August 2nd without increasing the debt ceiling. I, as well as the gentleman, understand that there is a lot of uncertainty if that were to happen, a lot of risk associated with that — risk that I’m not willing to take.

Of course, if Cantor is “not willing” to let the country default, then he should agree to a deal to raise the debt ceiling. Better yet, he should have agreed to raise the debt ceiling with no strings attached instead of making it conditional on contentious policy changes.

Cantor’s comments also fly in the face of his argument, which he made repeatedly this week, that Republicans are compromising by “even discussing” an increase in the debt ceiling. If Cantor can’t stomach the risks of defaulting, then how is he making a concession by acting to prevent default?

    GOP WHEEL OF MISFORTUNE

Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL) took to the House floor on Friday to explain how a debt ceiling default would affect the country using the power of arts and crafts.

The Democratic lawmaker busted out a construction paper “GOP Wheel Of Misfortune” to explain how a failure to raise the debt ceiling would cut off Social Security checks for seniors, suspend pay for federal workers, and send interest rates soaring.
