wow!

MSNBC: The best news for Obama: More than 550,000 donors contributed to the campaign with an average of $69 per donation, which means that Obama’s small-money army is there and can give again – and again and again. (In fact, it says that 98% of its donations were $250 or less.)

The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised a combined $86 million between April and June, blowing past the $60 million goal set by both groups at the start of the fundraising quarter.

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina announced the total in a video released before dawn Wednesday, touting the 552,462 donors who contributed and claiming “more grassroots support at this point in the process than any campaign in political history.”

Of the $86 million raised, Messina said over $47 million went into the coffers of Obama for America and more than $38 million went to the DNC. The average donation was $69.

Thanks Rock 😉

    I feel I need to do more to encourage my co-workers to give at least $20.00 this month. I will print some business cards to advise people where to go to donate via the web or by mail… I want more money donated “right now”..

      I want more $ donated right now too Michelle! I feel like saying “oh yeah we raised that much and just see how much more we will give to re-elect PBO!” There is no stopping PBO supporters!

    Good morning

    Isn’t it amazing? Small donors. If it’s not an indication that the President has a lot of supporters. I don’t know what is.

    Little info from Bill Burton on twitter:

    The $86m the President raised with 550k donors is still less than the Koch brothers said they’re going to spend… from just 2 donors.

    So the progressive hero Feingold who think that Citizen United should only apply to the GOP…..the hell with that, it’s war.

    Nobody in their right mind likes that ruling. Citizen United it’s a dangerous law, we all know that., but it’s there.

    I hope Bill Burton association rise a LOT of cash from anonymous donors. If it’s good for the GOP it’s good for the Democrats.

Funny how it’s when his buddies’ ships are sinking on the debt ceiling talks that he suddenly remembered that he had an ax to grind. Low down Mofo. Jesus, save this clown before I blow a gasket. 🙄

    I saw this on Morning Joe and I started screaming like a banshee in excitement. The goal was to raise $60 million and we far exceeded the goal by raising a whopping $86 million. 552,462 people stepped up to the plate and there were 680,000 donations, once again far exceeding our goals. 98% of those donations were $250 or less and the average donation was $69. When Mike Allen of POLITICO reported this, Joe Scarborough was dumbstruck for a moment and then he lost his mind saying “how were republicans supposed to compete if President Obama isn’t limiting himself to FEC money. Well dumbass neither are your buddies on the gop side! Repubs are using outside groups that don’t have to disclose anything financially so the fact that we outraised them, shows what a juggernaut President Obama is and the rightwingers and the msm can’t handle that. Mike Allen even had to reluctantly admit that President Obama is a JUGGERNAUT and what makes him even more of a formidable force is that he accomplished this phenom through WE THE PEOPLE. We helped him accomplish this. His team was very smart in making sure that even if one only had $5 to contribute, that #5 made a difference. Everytime they insult him, lie about him and his accomplishments and denigrate him; we get even more fired up than usual. So please please guys let’s continue the pushback, the donations and the work; because 2012 is a whole different ball game, but we are in it to WIN IT! Congratulations fellow Obamabots!

      I’m ashamed to say that the total and absolute disingenuous nature of Morning Schmoe still manages to shock me( even though I exorcised that demon from my tv listing a long time ago). How could he possibly have said something so duplicitous on national tv? As though PBO is some con who was only able to make that much because he engaged in some sneaky crap? The guy is a troll and his little sidekick too.

      Oh, ut, I tuned in to Morning Joke late so I missed this. I’m going to have to find a clip because I want to see that expression on that schmuck’s face. We the people support this President 1000% and every time some hater comes at him I’m going to donate, even if it’s just $5 bucks. President Obama is a master strategist who’s got a master team. The repugs can’t stop him.

      I mean look at this:

      PBO = $86m
      Mitt = $18.25
      T-Paw= $4.2m
      Hunstman = $4.1 ($2m of his own money)
      Cain = $2m
      Newt = $2m
      Crazy eyes = ?????

      Even Politico couldn’t manage to put too much snark in it’s report. Pres Obama is genius and has tremendous support. That’s why they’re coming after AA, Jews, Gays trying to fracture it. It ain’t working.

    • July 13, 2011 at 9:04 am

      Two words for Joe: Shock and Awe.

      Lesson #2: You don’t mess with the president’s REAL base.

    I just have to share a personal story. We were planning an OFA picnic in our rural county for last night. More grassroots organizing. I had asked one of the people who volunteers so much and so willingly to share with the group why she does it and has been since 2008. She summarized her perspective this way; she is a skeptic by nature particularly where political activities are concerned. She had been involved over the years in various ways in supporting political issues but didn’t like the “political operative” stereotype. She said she expected somehow that OFA would just be another type of organization run in that way. She told us when that didn’t happen it meant a great deal to her.

    Yesterday, I also got a call from another organizer two counties over who had been contacted by a large paper in our state for an interview. They wanted to know “why she does it” meaning why does she volunteer so many hours for OFA. She was trying to get her thoughts together and shared this: She said when she has in the past tried to help to create change it felt like such a heavy and impossible lift that it was discouraging. When she found out there were other people like herself who were willing to do what they could to help make positive change possible it meant the world to her. The Obama campaign and then OFA gave her that reassurance. She wasn’t alone.

    She also said that the President had stated that community organizing was essential but the reason he ran for elected office was that he learned that it was also essential to win elections and have people in office that cared about helping make those changes that improve peoples lives.

    Sounds like what we are doing, building community and capacity to win elections. As my kids used to say, “sweet”.

    I was excited about this great news——and then I opened our local paper and there is a full page ad with the heading “Barack Obama and the Democrats did not inherit the bad economy. They caused it and made it worse”—–and then a full page of putrid propaganda. I’m assuming it went in papers across the country. This “U.S. Citizens Association” ran same ads during health care debate. They were successfully sued by the Better Government Assoc. in Illinois because they were calling themselves the Better Government Association—-really stupid! They then switched their name to U.S. Citizens Assoc. The ad is trying to look like it was an article written by a non-profit. Quick research—-this is a lobbying firm registered to a Una Lauricia in Cleveland, Oh. Address is the law firm, Pearne and Gordon LLP. She is a partner. It’s all shady and difficult to decipher, but it looks like Ed Rollins was/is on the board. I’m guessing Koch money. Website says they are at war with the liberal, socialist policies of Obama and the Democrats. I’m calling/writing our paper to protest this paid, deceptive, lying piece of junk propaganda. Any further revelations are welcome.

    edp4bho here, anon at work. I have yet to donate to OFA but it is built into my budget. I know I still have plenty of time to donate again and again. Great news for our President, and for us. Anyhow, I wanted you all to try this on for size. I have what I call train associates, aka commuters I converse with. One in particular is what she calls, a little dismayed by PBO. First time she mentioned this was during the beginning of the Libya engagement (I’ve heard others mention this as well). I dismissed her concerns to myself, because I thought she sounded conflicted. Today, she approaches me with “seems PBO is beating back the republicans with his strategy”. I told her, see, that’s why people should pay attention to him as he is smart. She replies, “I still think he’s weak”. I say, if he’s so weak, why is his strategy so effective? I was about to get off the train while she began what I thought to be a comparison to……….I didn’t get to hear her as I was gone. I’ve decided that she and I cannot have an effective discussion about PBO as she sounds just exactly like folk who cheer him when things look promising, but loathe him when there is a snag here and there. I refuse to engage “part-time lovers”….!

Good for you! it’s also really great that you attempted to engage her in critical thinking about this president in order to negate some of meme propaganda that she’s been brainwashed with.       47 – 41 percent over Romney, unchanged from June 8;
      50 – 38 percent over Bachmann, who was not matched against Obama June 8;
      53 – 34 percent over Sarah Palin, compared to 53 – 36 percent June 8;
      50 – 37 percent over Perry, who was not matched against Obama June 8.

    That’s a huge number and what until more people get engaged. They will see that his support is as strong as it was in 2008 and they can say whatever they want in the news, but that if people are really paying attention they know who is at fault. These numbers will send a huge message to not only the Republican operatives, but also Republican donors. It’s is a great day to be a Dems–actually I feel that way every day.

    The Obama Administration will need to push back against attempts to color this as somehow unfair. Really hit on the Citizens United ruling and how, as Messina said in the vid, the campaign has to file thousands of pages of paperwork on their donors whereas the Rove Group donors and such, have to file nothing and how all their money is in secret and comes from billionaires donating millions of dollars. And then point out that explains why the GOP is so against raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires because those new taxes would likely cut into their fundraising.

    You know my dear family here, we are going to be just fine. We are supporting a good man who is not power hunger, evil in his words and deeds, and who works his behind off for the good of the people of this nation. He has even brought back some great standing for our country across the globe. We are not going to be defeated. Remember, these people were around in 2008(with their money), but who won the Presidency? Now that President Obama has done so much good for the people in our country, these clowns and evil people are angry. They will do and stoop to any vile level to get us off track. We will not be derailed. Not Now, Not Ever. We have the right ingredigents in our mix. Honesty, compassion, hard work, the body of this country, the middle class people who want their decent piece of the pie. We also have two great men in the Oval Office who give us all that they have daily. Big mouths on cable will do what they are paid to do. Speak hateful things about President Obama, distort the truth, brag about their millions and work their evils in their deep dark confines of the likes of the same evil set who tried this mess in 2008. And even before that. But One thing we must do: Keep our eyes on the longterm goal. As long as we know that we are truly doing what is good, what is decent, what is right, and what is respectful, we will find the proper way to give and give, and give more and more to this re-election of President Obama. We are a family here, and some of us are hurt, disappointed, angry, pissed, and plain old tired of these wretched people, but we will let off the steam with our family, and re-adjust, move on and stand together, no matter what they think or say. As long as we fight the lies and do it with love , WE WILL WIN This.

    Fantastic news! This is wonderful, all those who have been spewing that “PBO is losing his base” should put these fund raising figures in their collective pipe and smoke it!!!! YES WE CAN win again in 2012

    I just adore that One Voice video clip it has always been one of my favourite Obama speeches (just like every one of them is lol!) “One voice can change the world” Well President Obama’s certainly has. God bless PBO.
