so rupert, how are things these days?

Steve Benen: While the right doesn’t seem at all pleased with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s proposed solution to the debt-ceiling crisis, opposition among conservative Republicans is far from unanimous.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial page, one of the more influential pieces of Republican media real estate, got on board with the McConnell plan this morning. After several hundred words about how much the editorial page doesn’t like President Obama, the WSJ argued ….

… according to the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, a “bipartisan deal” on debt reduction would include the spending cuts Republicans want, entitlement cuts Republicans want, and the existing tax rates Republicans want. Democrats, in this “bipartisan deal,” would get nothing.

President Obama, the editorial board, “won’t go along” with this.

He’s obviously history’s greatest monster for rejecting such a “bipartisan deal”.

Of course they’ll back McConnell’s plan, he’s in their pocket and they’re in his. I see Fox Noise has been silent on the Murdoch scandal. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D) West Virginia is calling for an investigation into NewsCorp’s American holdings because they hacked the phones of many 9/11 victims families and if they could do that, who knows what other despicable nonsense they conducted. I hear David Cameron is also going to conduct an investigation into that very matter. I hope they dig under every rock, nook and cranny and flush out the mess that is Fox News, The New York Post and the Wall Street Journal. Idiots like Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan said people shouldn’t rush to judge Murdoch harshly, because he, his family and his media corporation can’t all be corrupt and this might just be some made up hoolabaloo. They also said that democrats and lefties alike are going to use this to crush Murdoch. Oh yeah you nincompoop Murdoch is just some innocent victim who has been railroaded by people who don’t like him. The nerve of these idiots on the right is disgusting. Crying out loud they hacked into the phone of a dead girl, 9/11 victims families, over 4,000 different individuals, Gordon Brown’s 5 year old son’s cystic fibrosis medical chart and that’s just to name a few. Now they want us to feel sorry for Daddy Moneybags? Hell no. I’m glad he’s lost the BSKYB deal and I sincerely hope members of the British Parliament hold Murdoch and his leeches feet to the fire; because if they don’t, hell hath no fury like the citizens of England scorned.

After bernanke said we could have -6% GDP growth if we default on our debt, Rick santeli was asked if that is ok and he said- bring it on.
The other reasonable guy on cnbc told rick- it is stunning you would say that down on the floor I’d the Chicago traders. I hope this roll of the dice works out for you.
Translation- the traders and Rick santeli are betting FOR a default, just like cantor.

    Hopefully, the doj was listening!

I took a little visit to Wiki and found this info. Rupert Murdoch’s holdings in the U.S.:

Murdoch made his first acquisition in the United States in 1973, when he purchased the San Antonio Express-News
Soon afterwards, he founded the Star tabloid
In 1976, he purchased the New York Post
On 4 September 1985, Murdoch became a naturalised citizen to satisfy the legal requirement that only US citizens were permitted to own American television stations.
In 1985, Murdoch purchased the 20th Century Fox movie studio
In 1986, Murdoch purchased six television stations owned by Metromedia. These stations would form the nucleus of the Fox Broadcasting Company, which was founded on 9 October 1986. In 1995, Murdoch’s Fox Network became the object of scrutiny from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), when it was alleged that News Ltd.’s Australian base made Murdoch’s ownership of Fox illegal. However, the FCC ruled in Murdoch’s favor, stating that his ownership of Fox was in the best interests of the public.
Also in 1995, Murdoch announced a deal with MCI Communications to develop a major news website and magazine, The Weekly Standard.
In 1996, Murdoch decided to enter the cable news market with the Fox News Channel, a 24-hour cable news television station.
In late 2003, Murdoch acquired a 34% stake in Hughes Electronics, the operator of the largest American satellite TV system, DirecTV.
On 20 July 2005, News Corp. bought Intermix Media Inc., which held MySpace.com (he just sold MySpace)
On 11 September 2005, News Corp. announced that it would buy IGN Entertainment for $650 million (USD).[20]
In May 2007, Murdoch made a $5 billion offer to purchase Dow Jones, owner of the Wall Street Journal.

    BOYCOTT his garbage!

On a different topic, I just got off the DCCC call from Leader Pelosi and Steve Israel. Whoa!!! The President called Pelosi and Reid to the WH to talk about the debt ceiling so it was Steve Israel. That man is FIRED UP and ready to go. He says he’s from NY — he’s direct, clear and knows his stuff. I would love for him to do an ad for the Democrats and hope he does. He said with the Democratic special election win by Janice Hahn in CA-36, they now just need 24 seats to retake the House! They have 49 candidates in play now in 31 districts and their goal is 50 districts. They should have that next month. They took calls from questioners and one of them was from Indiana — he owned a solar company. he said Mitch Daniels had taken $68 million in stimulus money for energy companies and only gave out $500,000 of it! I had heard that. He was saying that Obama’s auto rescue was direct and it worked more effectively — that GOP governors have been holding up the stimulus.

He said more, but Steve Israel has energy and he knows what he’s talking about. I just love Leader Pelosi. The DCCC is full of energy and going strong already.

    I loved this:

Nancy Pelosi sends birthday flowers to George W. Bush

Just last week, she told the group, she sent flowers to George W. Bushfor his birthday. (His 65th, if you forgot.)

Huh. The minority leader, 71, is a prolific sender of flowers, cards, etc., but we had to know what prompted this? Her note on the bouquet, we’re told: “Mr. President, Happy Birthday! Welcome to the Medicare years!”

    • July 13, 2011 at 3:25 pm

      Be careful Suzanne,
If you listen to Adam green and dome house democrats, some, there is a split there. Adam green only gives credit to the house democrats while going after the president and not republicans.
Some dems, some, get on the tv and do the same to the president.
Translation- the house dems want there majority back and are competing against the president for fundraising.
      Just a feeling I have…

This crazy media is against this President, if Obama says A, they will say B, if Obama says up, they will say down. If there is positive news on the President you will barely hear about it from them. But let it be negative news and they will cover it all day. This is a personal opin I posted at TOD….what do ya’ll think about this: We have to remember folks that while this 86mil is a tremondous figure for a quater and we have doubled the total Rethug contributions it still does not match what the Teapublicans will be getting as far as unlimited cash through any means necessary due to Citizens United.

That being said I pray that Dem and Progressive/Lib groups have been forming their own PACS and outside subgroups to raise cash for Dem campaigns. We will need it once the GOP elect their nominee. Remember the Supreme Court has created this atmosphere so it is legal. I know President Obama has made a pledge not to accept PAC and Special interest monies, but how else will we compete? These small donation figures are staggering, but will pale in comparison once Coporate America gets started with their unlimited cash cow to the Rethugs.
I know the PL is raising their own cash. Hope that doesn’t take away from potential legit doners to PBO and other Dems. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!

what the hell are the PL raising their own cash for? who the fuck do they think they can run against PBO who would get more than 7% of the vote — from nutroots, Gasbag (Ed), Pompous A-hole (Keith) and the Maddcow? Are these people really that stupid? Their stupid campaign wouldn’t even put a dent in PBO’s stride 🙄 plus, didn’t they learn anything from their 2010 vendetta? Alot of democrats they primaried wound up losing to repugs. Are they really that pissed that they aren’t getting 100% of what they want that they are willing to sacrifice the 85% they do get for the 0% they will get if a repug won? Fucking fuckers. 😡 I wonder what women and gays are gonna think and who they’re gonna blame if a repug became president and rolled back every law that has protected these minorities, case in point: all the repug state legislatures currently attacking women’s reproductive rights. How are the Hampster and her clownish hooligans gonna explain that to women and the gays who undoubtable will suffer more under a repug dictatorship?…….. Oh, I’m sorry! They don’t give a rat’s ass. They are selfish and malicious and really don’t care who they hurt, just as long as they feel vindicated. They can kiss my ass and frack off.
ps- sorry for going off on you comment Keith, these people just piss me the freak off 😡

C’mon lisa. You read and post enough on TOD and BWD to realize that the PL have their own agenda. These so called Progressive TV pundits have been dissin’ PBO since his inauguration (They are Clintonites and Edwards supporters, Ed is just a Rethug in disguise). They want to Primary PBO. It is all a waste of time and yeah they could add salt to the presidential race. After all this is America. Anything goes. They don’t care about the Democratic Party either. Get use to it cause it will get worse as 2012 approaches. I wish we supporters wouldn’t act so surprised when we see and read stuff like this from the PL. They do not have our best interest or President Obama’s best interest at heart. So buckle up dearheart for a bumpy and sometimes very difficult ride we are going to face in the general election. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!! Obama/Biden 2012

Keith, I’m always surprised by the depth and breadth of people’s greed, stupidity and mendacity. All three are sickeningly disgusting and whenever I am confronted with a new low I am frustrated, irritated and yes surprised. I don’t think we should ever become too desensitized to duplicity or disingenuousness. We should always expect and demand better, even if we never get it because it’s the right thing to do. Will keep hope alive, so right: OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 🙂
