The resolution will have no real teeth and I suspect Murdoch will still get his BSkyB deal because his lawyers will use the law to their advantage through the competition committee. However Rupe might need to sell off News International in order to get the BSkyB deal through the Competition committee – which would strip him of a lot of his power in the UK as he’d use the threat of Red Top expose’s to control politicians, and the police and get what he’d want. Without the papers under his control he wouldn’t have that stick anymore. However BSkyB is basically the crown jewel of what he’s been working for in the UK anyways.

I wouldn’t underestimate the power of this all-party resolution, before this I laughed at the notion of the British political establishment having the guts to unite in opposition against Murdoch, considering they all licked his feet the past couple of decades, but I think they’re now emboldened by the public backlash against all these revelations about how News International does its business. I’d never write off Murdoch, his power is way too insidious to do that, but his British operation is most definitely holed beneath the waterline. No British politician will flirt will him again, at least not in public, he has been shown up for what he is: a scumbag. I’d be astounded if the BSkyB deal wasn’t blocked – by any means necessary – after all of this.

I agree, Chips. The power of this righteous public revulsion cannot be underestimated. He is nuclear waste right now.

There was no other way to cut the head of this ‘creature’ except thru a united ‘front’. Cameron is just trying to extricate himself from his gross misjudgment in employing an ex-NoW editor. He has no choice as he is friends with Becky Brooks and even tho they were warned by Vince Cable (who was spectacularly setup) initially to forward Murdoch’s bid for SKY to the Competition Commission they went ahead with the deal without it.
Surely a lesson for all those moguls who use, abuse, manipulate and blackmail people in trying to change the agenda for their nefarious ends – your day will come. The adage of ‘what is done in darkness will surely come to light ‘ is so fitting. Some might say that there is nothing more dangerous than an ‘injured creature’ but with this scandal reverberating through the empire (hopefully there would be an inquiry in the US), it should hopefully keep it on its knees for the foreseeable future. Schadenfreude.

I would love to see the downfall of Murdoch’s empire. He’s another one of these self appointed power brokers who are not elected by anybody but keep their money, power and influence through public manipulation and corruption. I don’t know if there is another example as extreme as Fox News but it makes me happy to see the people in the UK wake up to this. I hate to see people paying to be brainwashed.

      Brilliant. I most certainly concur.

Well said Sunshine! Lets hope people will wake-up to realize that FOX is a propaganda network and not a legitimate source of news. As for the “self appointed power brokers who are not elected by anybody but keep their money, power and influence through public manipulation and corruption…” the next target should be the Koch brothers. I joined the boycott of Koch Industry products because I didn’t want to pay a single cent to billionaires who are trying to manipulate and subvert politics and elections in this country. No more angel soft or dixie-cups/plates for me.
