‘gop losing ground with seniors’

MSNBC: Whether it’s due to the current Medicare debate, the end of the health-care fight (in which the GOP clubbed Democrats on Medicare), or something else, Republicans are losing ground with seniors.

In our combined NBC/WSJ polls for the first half of this year, 44% of seniors identify themselves as Democrats, versus 35% who identify themselves as Republicans. So a nine-point spread.

But in our merged NBC/WSJ polls from 2010, Democrats held just a two-point edge among seniors, 42%-40%.

Why is this important? Because last year – when they won control of the House and made gains in the Senate – … the GOP won the senior vote by more than 20 percentage points, 59%-38%. But in 2008, McCain beat Obama among seniors by eight points, 53%-45%. And in 2006, Democrats split the senior vote, 49%-49%.

…. Something similar is happening in the Midwest, too. Per the merged 2011 NBC/WSJ polls, 42% of respondents in that region identify with Democrats, versus 31% who identify with Republicans. So an 11-point spread. Yet back in our 2010 merged data, the Dem edge was just four points, 41%-37%….

the President and the Democrats have got to stay strong and DEMAND airtime to speak to Seniors and the American people so that they are aware of what the GOP is doing and plan on doing to them.

Democrats should go on tv and go to retirement houses if it’s legal and with charts and simple language to show the GOP’s plan.

I wonder if this new “Obama is going to cut ss and mc” meme is a part of the GOP playbook to take the focus off of Ryan’s cut medicare plan and blame PBO for cutting ss and mc like they did during the 2010 election? I don’t believe PBO will cut anything unless it is waste or an improvement in these 2 programs.

Yes, in a perfect world, when we, the American people, owned the airwaves, and The Fairness Doctrine was in place, that would be possible.

Today, it is not. That is why the POTUS used TWITTER to talk to us, because the GOP owns the airwaves, and most of the print media WORLDWIDE.

GOP House has voted NO on 10 Dem jobs bills, and has yet to introduce 1. http://t.co/V45HlVc #GOPFAIL

Oh yeah I saw dem rep on tv who said the dems had introduced 10 jobs bills to the house floor. 10! and repubs blocked each and every one of them without bringing forth one of their own. I hope the dems and President Obama continue to heavily reach out to seniors because seniors watch the news and they VOTE. They should make appearances on all local tv stations and local news and make sure healthcare ads – especially Paul Ryan’s KILL MEDICARE BILL – are on a continuous loop, so that seniors who are on the fence, become solidly democratic and vote in the right people.
