Thank you, Chipsticks….you work so hard for all of us. It is more than appreciated:) Hugs to you, and please have a relaxing weekend!

Wonderful Chipsticks, simply wonderful. I absolutely LOVE that song! So appropriate for the Fourth of July and the photos made the point loud and clear!

    • July 3, 2011 at 9:18 pm

Adore that song too Joan, it makes my knees wobble every time! The cutest/funniest YouTube video I think I ever saw was a group of kids from Thailand singing the …… Irish version of the song!!!! As if we needed any more proof that it’s a global village we live in!

This land is your land, this land is my land
From the northern highlands, to the western islands
From the hills of Kerry, to the streets of free Derry
This land was made for you and me

      Happy July 4 Joan 😉

Oh Chipsticks this video is soo precious. This is what many republicans don’t get. We are a global village indeed. We are interdependent and we rise and fall as one. They always want to divide us, but videos like this and other good works by great leaders continuously gives me HOPE!

stylishgurl, I know I’m getting ahead of myself, but what about the first dance? Last time it was At Last with Beyonce. 2013 what will the song be for POTUS and FLOTUS to dance to? We do have sometime to think about that.

  7. July 3, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Chipsticks, thank you. This does my heart good. I’ve never seen that video before and I got teary eyed, too. As I looked at it I remembered how it felt when he was inaugurated and the hope was all about the promise of what could be. And you know, I’ve never been disappointed in him. Sometimes I think it would be interesting to know the forces he deals with that we aren’t aware of, but truthfully, I don’t want to know. I just know I appreciate President Obama, the First Lady, their family and this administration with all my heart.

  8. July 3, 2011 at 9:34 pm

I love that video, it had me singing right r along with those words, this land is your land, this land is my land. As I looked at all the people , and the good time being had, I said to myself that is America, not the HATE coming from the other side,

Thanks Chips. Tears rolling down this middle aged man’s face. It brought back so many memories. I went to the inauguration folks. We were cold seeings how it was late Janurary, but being amongst the 1.4 million attendees really warmed the heart. 🙂 After the parade we left the DC area back to Baltimore where relatives live. I will never forget the experience I had in our nation’s capitol and my birthplace that day in January of 2009.

    • July 3, 2011 at 10:08 pm

Oh Keith, I wish i’d met you on that magnificent day! Although I wouldn’t even have been able to say hello, my frostbitten lips refused to function! Oh my, it was the coldest cold I ever experienced, but I’ve never been so warm inside …. if I live to 1,000 I will never experience a more glorious day. See you in DC in January 2013, okay?

Definately Chipsticks. I plan on being at the inauguration in 2013 again as well. Yes it was a bitter type of winter cold, but the all the warm hearts made it bearable. Wish I could had said hello to you too Chips. We will definately be there with another million man/women turnout. 🙂

        • July 3, 2011 at 11:29 pm

I’m serious Keith, I’ll be there in Jan 2013, I’d love to see you then to give you a suffocating hug! When we get nearer the time we’ll make arrangements, you will NOT leave DC without a hug from me!

We MUST to our best to have a TOD meet-up in DC for 2013. I went in 2009, and I have to say, I wore 5 layers of clothes and I needed ALL FIVE LAYERS!! I have never been that cold in my life. God BLESS!!!! my friend who called me the day before and told me to buy handwarmers. The best $5 I ever spent. I thanked the Lord Jesus, Allah, Buddah, and whoever I else I could pray to, for ever invented those things. I know I would have had frost bite without them.

        • 32 utaustinliberal
          July 3, 2011 at 11:29 pm

Hey Asher, don’t worry we’re here to help.

          1. To send out a tweet, look at the buttons at the top of the page, click Home and it leads you to your timeline. There is a blank space on the left where if you click on it you can write your words and then to tweet it, click the Tweet button.

          2. Another way to tweet is; on the top right corner where your twitter name/handle appears, put your mouse over there and it says Tweet. Click on it, write what you want in 140 characters or less and tweet.

          3. To follow someone, in the search box type his/her real name or his/her twitter name/handle and when they appear, click the Follow button. It will turn green and that is how you know you are following someone.

          4. To unfollow someone, just simply click on their twitter name and click the follow button, it turns red and that’s how you know you’re no longer following someone.

          5. To follow a lot of TOD’ers, search my twitter name @utaustinliberal and when my full profile comes up, you will see that I follow 4 lists. @tienle47, a fellow TOD’er created a list of many TOD’ers and their twitter names. Click on the list and to follow each person, simply click the follow button, or type his/her name in the search box and click the follow button.

          6. The 4 lists also include other lists made by other TOD’ers, so you can check each list to make sure that you’re following as many TOD’ers as possible.

          7. To follow a newsstation, celebrity, or political pundit, simply type their name in the search box, click the follow button when their profile appears and you can follow them.

8 Or, you can look at the news people I follow and if you like anyone of them, you can follow them as you wish.

If you need more help, we’re all here for you. 🙂

      Hey Rufus,

Just so you and your colleagues know, the amount of $13 was chosen because of Malia Obama’s upcoming 13th birthday as one of our colleagues suggested, here – http://theobamadiary.com/2011/07/03/from-california-to-the-new-york-island%e2%80%a6-2/#comment-66725

This land was made for you and me!! Now, to make it absolutely, positively real. Some folks don’t want to believe that. They think it’s just for them. In reality, we are fighting a NEW CIVIL WAR. And it’s not slave vs. free. It’s poor and middle class, work-a-day, everyday, regular people, Of all colors, all nationalities, union and non-union, living in apartments or living on farms. married with kids, or living the single life – WE ARE ALL AMERICANS.

And it’s us, ALL OF US v. greedy, selfish, some VERY rich, and some not-so-rich, close-minded, hateful, actively mean people who are willing to see this country torn apart for their evil purposes. I don’t even begin to understand what those purposes are. All I know if that they MUST be defeated AND WE ARE THE ONES WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR to do it.

Dear Chipsticks and everyone else on this blog,

While the newstainers bloviate and attack the most amazing President in the almost 64 years I have been alive – rivaled only by FDR, Lincoln and the Founding Fathers, if at all – a most amazing event is happening in Libya.

You will never know of that most amazing event because the newstainers and their fellow corporate media script writers and producers have no clue what is actually happening in Libya.

The Libyan people are 24/7 seeking their inalienable rights and suffering and dying, daily, to achieve those rights.

235 years after the moment in our history being celebrated this 4 July 2011, Libyans are calling for the following:

“Update from Benghazi:July 4th, 2011We are planing a HUGE protest on Wednesday that will hold inshaAllah a million ppl. We got a call from
ppl in Tobrok, Derna, Al Baydaa, and Shahaat that told us they they will be coming in the bus loads to join us and stand for Tripoli, Misrata,
Nafusa Mountains, and all other places in Libya that are still being attacked by Gaddafi & his rats. We are asking all other cities
WORLDWIDE to join us and rally for all of the citites of Libya on the same day with us. Please join and help get the word out!!!! Copy and paste this, tweet it, make a youtube vid and ask ppl to join, call ppl and ask them to join.”

    Link: http://english.aljazeera.net/indepth/features/2011/07/2011721054895234.html#comment-241662136

You will never hear of this from the newstainers – never.

I have posted this message at OFA, TPV, TOAITR, and here.

I request all of you who happen to tweet to pass the word.

You will never know how important what the people of Libya are achieving if you read or listen to the newstainers. NEVER.

But, that does not matter to them. They are getting the job of their freedom, done. Just as our ancestors did after 1776 and just as those who would not allow our Republic to be consumed by the hatred and bigotry of the Confederate States.

Be proud, America, because you elected a President in 2008 who has enabled the people of Libya to achieve their own destiny – a President who has rejected ‘nation building,’ ‘American exceptionalism,’ and colonialism and has saved the lives of thousands of Libyans whom had he not acted courageously and definitively would today be buried in mass graves, if buried at all.

Kasai, (((((hug))))) I really feel you, please don’t worry about sharing this here, although it is awful, evil and devastating. I can hardly see what I am typing right now through my tears but at the same time I am thanking God that it is not true and hoping that the SS will nail those cretins who are responsible for those evil tweets. (I am sorry for the language I am so upset/angry/disgusted by this) Why do some hate this wonderful man so much.
I will channel these feelings into something positive just as soon as I calm down enough to think rationally. All these evil haters do is make me more determined to do as much as I can (however limited) to get this super-human, exceptional man re-elected. Please also those of us who believe in the power of prayer, please pray for the President and first family.

Dear Lord please protect President Barack Obama, keep him and his family and his administration out of harms way and give him the grace to rise above all the evil and hatred levelled against him and guide him through all his endeavors to help make a better country for all. Amen

God bless President Obama and God bless the USA.

  27. July 4, 2011 at 4:56 am

Now MSN is reporting that FoxPolitical News was hacked….Regardless, I think the SS should pay a visit to whomever wrote the tweets…isn’t that a crime??? I don’t believe that it was hacked because, the tweets are still there….and the last time I heard someone tweeter was hacked was Anthony Weiner…..The thought of this evil actions by these hater must be stopped once and for all…We can no longer be silent.

Kasai, what a crazy thing to wake up to. Although I’m glad you saying MSN is now reporting that “FoxPolitical News was hacked,” I agree that this needs to be investigated. What an awful, awful thing to do. And I also agree that these haters must be stopped. I’m going back to sleep. See you later tomorrow . . .

  29. 77 Keith in C-bus, Ohio
    July 4, 2011 at 6:06 am

Unimaginable that this type of stuff could be on a mainstream internet news site. The SS must investigate. Hopefully this has got the attention of the administration. There is some real FEAR and HATER mongering swirling around in our nation. God forbid a repeat of 1963 takes place. A year before JFK would have been re-elected.

  30. 78 nathkatun7
    July 4, 2011 at 6:11 am

Honestly, what is going on in this country? Why would any one indulge in such an evil action? For some of us who witnessed the traumas of the 1960’s this is really not funny! The person who wrote this needs to be exposed and punished for trying to traumatize the country. Joking about the assassination of any one, and especially the President, should be completely out of bounds. It is much, much, worse than falsely yelling fire in a crowded theater, and should not, IMO, be protected by free speech. The SS must really look into this because it’s likely to encourage deranged people.

  31. 79 mtmarilyn
    July 4, 2011 at 7:36 am

What a horrid thing to put out. All the police need to check that out. The msm needs to do journalism on that as much as they did on Weiner. Get to the sick sobs.

    • 80 utaustinliberal
      July 4, 2011 at 8:11 am

It’s absolutely horrid and disgusting. Fox News claims it was hacked when it sent out a tweet saying President Obama had been assasinated and had died of two gunshot wounds. Then they sarcastically tweeted what a sad 4th of July for the nation. Happy 4th! SS need to investigate Fox News b/c I don’t believe they were hacked. There are sick people who reside over there and call themselves “journalists.”

The other sick thing is that there is a trending topic on twiiter entitled #ifobamadead and these sickos are tweeting about how cool it would be if President Obama was assassinated today. They keep tweeting out different scenarios and which republican they would want as President. I can’t believe Twitter allowed this to become a trending topic. People are pissed off as heck and they’re complaining to twitter and complaining in general and telling the White House to do something about it.

My concern is that there could be an actual plot…altho we have not heard much about it in the press…i wonder how many death threats our President has actually received….

as to Fox Cable News….i came to the conclusion that it is not a news network but a propaganda machine….as they all are…This is definetly not Walter Cronkite…

Fox News with this tweet….along with the Halpern’s performance on MSNBC….along with Pat Buchanon saying that the President does not have the b****to call the Republican’s bluff….this is where our so -called news has gone…..pity

before I say anything else I’ll say another long prayer for the President;First Lady;Malia and Sasha’s safety. The devil is on overdrive and the only way to counteract is to pray and light a candle and sing a song for them. There are folks out there with such hatred in their hearts that they’d love to put their hands on them;I know it and ya’ll know it.

Let’s not let this get under our skin too too much but instead pray and give him $ and let’s face it;this could only happen to a Fox affiliated twitter;site or facebook thing. It makes Fox look even worse.

I hope the SS doubles up today and that he wears a bullet proof vest just to be on the safe side if need be but remember GOD is there for and with THIS President and his family.

May GOD bless the President with life;health;courage;calm;peace of mind;joy; luck and the First Lady and Malia and Sasha and may the Holy Spirit always surround and guide them

Happy 4th of July to everyone and I wish Malia a Happy Happy and blessed Birthday 😀

Sue, I will be thinking of you as you await the test results for your cat. I am sorry that you are going through this, it’s horrible when a pet is sick, they are such a part of your family.

I can not put here what I think of them as it is way too obscene to type here. Dont let those b’s get to you though, just have a good day.

Chipsticks, I love the children singing This Land is my land … set in Ireland! And the little ones yelling out the lyrics in the back! Well, you’ve got to work at being heard when you’re little!

On the subject of This Land’s lyrics, I nearly sob at the line, “Near the relief office – I see my people …” because I remember walking to the relief office with my mother when I was not much more than four years old and “helped” her carry one or two of the items in the two bags of groceries she received. It was two miles to and from the place. I remember exactly what it looked like — a former grocery store on a corner. I often dream of it.

My mother was five foot tall, mind you, and she carried two bags full of flour and canned goods, a bag in each arm. My father was doing his usual one and a half mile walk himself to the shipyard to stand by the employment office, waiting to be called back to work. I was little, it was an adventure, but what makes me sad is what the two of them went through until my father, at long last, was taken back on the machinist crew. In fact, he had been a foreman when he was laid off and he was rehired as a foreman.

But I don’t remember the joy of joblessness ended, I just remember the walk to the relief office and back. We got our Christmas tree there, too, as I recall.

Yes, I love the song. It invokes so many memories. How brave they were, the two of them, and both dead in their forties. When asked by friends, I usually say that they died of the Depression. I hope we’ve got past that, though there are many suffering right now. It wears at the soul, weeks and months and, sometimes, years of unemployment. My heart goes out to them all.
