Oh utaustinliberal, you are making me hunger again. It all sounds so tasty. I had a portion of baked tilapia with a red onion, chopped garlic in a butter sauce(a little wine of course) and 2 slices of avocado and a thick slice of tomato. So far, my tummy is not going into a storm. No pain so far. However the early evening is still young. But I could really use a smoothie for a snack. If I get in trouble, I am going to report you to FLOTUS from getting off of my schedule. I love vegetables and fresh fruits, so I could be a lot of fruits with my guava juice and lots of honey and should be okay. Have a great weekend, utaustinliberal. I am still trying to catch up with you all on Twitter.

Great minds think alike……I wass visiting over on huff puff and I commented on an article regarding the latest flip-flop of Romney.

I guess Romney didn’t realize that the operation research would begin so soon.

The blow that usually knocks a fighter out is the counter punch, because the fighter leaves himself open when he throws the initial punch. Old Mitt better concentrate on knocking out his republican counterparts, because if he jumps to far ahead and start taking on the president now he may find that the counter punches coming his way may start doing some damage.

You see today we’re not talking about the ad than ran in Pennsylvania attacking the president, but instead that once again Romney has flipped-flopped.

    • July 2, 2011 at 10:59 pm

Did you see Romney trying to be PBO cool in his jeans? I have never seen such a dork in my life. Who could be married to such a dull man? And since he backed off the hair dye, he looks really haggard.

      • 8 bjw2
        July 2, 2011 at 11:09 pm

I noticed how haggard he looked in that counter ad that ran.

I haven’t seen him in the jeans yet……but what’s next for him sandals? There’s only one original and that’s PBO and when the good Lord made him he broke the mold.

The major flip-flopper…he has no personality…..now he’s trying to look cool? major fail.
Like trying to be funny….pretending that a woman pinched his ass….or saying he’s unemployed, with his millions….

        He’s so weird.

I’m almost positive he’s going to be the nominee though……Romney-Rubio.

I’m hoping for Bachmann but she’s has no chance.

        • July 2, 2011 at 11:36 pm

To me Rubio as vp candidate is laughable. The chump has been in the senate for six seconds. PBO had been in a Senator for two years BEFORE announcing.

I sent Rubio a tweet for him whining about PBO’s press conference.

I don’t know if we could discount Rubio. Florida is important and he could sway some Hispanic vote for Romney. He also speaks well and doesn’t often say stupid things. I find Huntsman/Rubio could be a problem if they actually let Huntsman thru the primary. Only good thing we’ve on Rubio is the vote to kill medicare. Won’t sit well with the retired set there.

          • July 3, 2011 at 1:14 pm

The funny thing about these repug guys is that they always try to present themselves as tough, but the minute PBO answer them with tone, they revert to whingeing like the weaklings that they are.

You know I’m beginning to think that Romney may not be the shoe-in that everyone suggesting he is.

This latest counter ad has gotten peolple to talking about his biggest hurdle and that is his beleivability and this ad was mild in comparison as negative ads goes. If ads like these continue they will start to affect his polling numbers and you will see someone like a Perry step in the race, or perhaps even Hunstman numbers start to rise

I wonder where all this is leading….who will turn out to be the presidential nominee on the Repbulican side….on another note …i have been hearing a bit about the 14 amendment of the constitution that says that the debt ceiling must be raised because it would be unconstitutional to default…now isn’t the an interesting notion…..

Hope you have been enjoying your weekend, Chipsticks, while staying out of trouble! 😆

I’ve never really been able to pick a favourite from the ‘Memory Lane’ videos of President Obama as I find them all so telling! IMO it is amazing that all of the President’s earlier videos tell us a little bit about exactly who he is! A very open man with a vision for the country and the world. A consistent politician, no flip-flopping! As the restaurant owner recently said, he does what he says he will do.

Chipsticks, it’s been a (little) while since you’ve taken us down memory lane – can you lead us back there soon? Whenever you do this, a ‘new’ old video always surfaces to my eyes. Merci encore pour ton travail ici a TOD!

    • July 2, 2011 at 11:22 pm

He told it plain, vcprezofan2. I was pushing my Moms to vote for him and she was explaining about not wasting her vote (and she grew up with “colored only” this and that in the south). So when she told me she started supporting Obama after New Hampshire — Mom, he lost! Then the Yes We Can video came out and I connected the dots. I’m thinking she heard, “I’m not going to waste your vote Mrs., Yes I Can.” He wasn’t gonna cry when he lost but keep pushing himself up and keep trying. And win. He wasn’t wasting anyone’s time, money or vote.

And now you guys made me hungry!

I am right there on the hungry page with you. I am so lazy when it comes to food, unless there are many mouths to feed. I hate to cook for one. By myself today…….good bread, good cheese, tomatoes and a can of smoked oysters…notice no pans required.
I hope everyone is enjoying good food, good friends, good wine.

        Happy Birthday America….Yes.We.Can.

        • July 3, 2011 at 12:20 am

I remember going to the kitchen once — oops, nothing to eat. An hour later my mom had a nice tasty dinner on the stove. Don’t know how you women do it! 🙂 Please enjoy your pan-free weekend.

          Happy Birthday America!

Sorry I disaappeared for a while and didn’t see your question.

I think it was shortly after the Ryan Path to Poverty debate. I believe it was during a closed door meeting and one of the people who came out of the meeting quoted him saying that in response to some offer by the republicans. I love the phrase so much but don’t remember the exact context. Will see is I can find it for you.

The president looks so young in the video……his gray hair didn’t take away his charms, he’s has handsome as ever.

I was thinking about Romney the other day….there’s always something strange or weird about him….for me anyway.
It has nothing to do with the fact that he is a mormon…I don’t have that feeling when I see Gleen Beck, for me he’s just a lying POS, a fraud…but I don’t feel that ”strangeness” about him.

I nailed it….he reminds me of Jim Bob Duggard……same thing.

When I see pics of his family…..like the Duggard….not a hair out of place….they look so robotic…..like a cult.

Bad vibes for me big time.

      July 3, 2011 at 12:25 am

I say trust your instincts. He is very robotic……don’t Mormons have a special planet…maybe he is an alien sent from the outer limits.

I personally reject the idea that being a CEO is the essential key to being Presidential. America is not a business, a better analogy is that we are a family with a house to run. I want to see people, and the quality of their lives be the highest priority. Business and economy are important for the oportunities they enlarge, not just because a handlful of people can get stinking rich.

Number of bills passed by the 112th congress 11. Of those 10 were renaming buildings

Republicans hold up 2nd trade bill, this one with S. Korea, unless congress insert anti-abortion defunding measure. {what does abortion funding have to do with trade agreements designed to encourage job and manufacturing growth? The other trade bill being held up was the one the President secured during his trip thru South America.

At the press conference last Wednesday, President Obama made it a point to explain what the EXECUTIVE BRANCH had been doing and is doing for job creation. The most important items was the public/private partnerships. You have to believe that Chief of Staff Bill Daley is all over this. (But remember, the PL were outraged that he was selected as CoS).

Then President Obama ticked off the things that the LEGISLATIVE BRANCH of government could and should be doing. I would like for Arianna Huff and Puff to ask the Republicans

      1) Why they are holding the entire country hostage because of the need to raise the debt limit. They raised the debt limit at least five times during the Bush administration. Not raising the debt limit will be a job killer in more ways than one.

      2) Why have there been no jobs bills in the six months that the Republicans have been in the majority in the house. Don’t you think Speaker Boehner has some explaining to do.

      3) Why are the Republicans holding up THREE trade bills? And please ask Senator Orrin Hatch exactly what does preventing abortions have to do with the South Korea trade bill.

You would think Arianna just doesn’t know basic government 101. President Obama does not have any magic powers to create jobs. He is having to be creative to circumvent the Republicans obstruction and intransigence in congress. Criticizing President Obama is just a CHEAP SHOT. When you are being honest, you have to be questioning the REPUBLICAN PARTY for actively trying to sabotage the economic recovery. Their behavior is Un-American and should be condemned.

As Steve Benen likes to say, “This is no way to run a democracy in the 21st century.”

Love him to death but would like to see a little bit more “crushing” as they have been trying to “take advantage” of his nature for almost 3 yrs now. I’m not a far lefty that wants to see him punching all the time but his recent news conference is a great example of what we need to see more of. If we were to see more of that fighting spirit (not that I want him to be fighting all the time) then the media wouldn’t treat it like such an “event” when he finally does punch back.

They spend virtually all their time punching at this amazing and decent man and he takes it with such grace and intelligence, he just needs to show them what’s what a little more often.

    • 53 Chi
      July 3, 2011 at 3:57 am

He does not need to ‘show them’ anything…

President Obama is an adult and an extraordinarily brilliant, savvy and worldly one at that…

The idea that everyone including those who claim to support him, seem to think they know better than him how and when to respond to things, is quite mind-boggling and frankly insulting…

      • 54 hopefruit2
        July 3, 2011 at 9:34 am

I agree. No one “takes advantage” of this President . With all his great qualities, this man also happens to be a shrewd politician with impeccable timing. That’s why both his detractors on the left and right are so obsessed with him – because he trounces them everytime and they absolutely HATE it.

        • 55 HZ
          July 3, 2011 at 5:34 pm

I concur hopefruit2. He does not need to have more of this type of news conference. It also depends on what has happened and is happening in the world. Remember this President is very smart in politics, and he is most of all a very well on point President. He does not have to react to the chatter box people all the time. He is who he is, and plese remember that. His DNA is not changing. We are such instant “neededs” of everything in our culture today, and this President is not. He takes our concerns, our needs, the world’s happenings, and he weighs them according to his temperment. He reads everything he can get his hands on and even asks for more, and we can believe that he is well prepared for any conference, meeting, and phone call. It the press phonies would prepare themselves just one inch of how this President prepared himself, maybe the public would get better news reporting. But these people are focus on taking down this President, and that is the sideshow we need not focus on. I know that our President can come out punching and putting anyone in their place any time he wants too. But remember, {resident Barack Obama does not allow the press, hacks, and low information people define him. And believe me, he will not allow them to define his Presidency. I listen to my President and cock one eye at the lazy news chat people. President Obama does not “need to grow a spine” because he has a great one already. You do not grow spines, you study hard the issues, the focus on the needs of the people who are hurting now, your represent our nation all around the world with grace, calmness, and truth. We have a grownup in the Oval Office now.

    • July 3, 2011 at 9:41 am

He doesn’t have to get down to their level. He has crushed them in more ways than one, without the bravado or fanfare. With all their opposition to everythig he has tried to do, he has come out looking better than they have. Whether it is passing Health Care to outsmarting them on the budget last year, by getting most of his programs that he wanted.

That is why they result to calling him nasty names and they fight to keep unemployment numbers up. It can be maddening when you talk trash and the other person lower the decible and still bring you down a notch.

I wish I had half his resolve.

        July 3, 2011 at 10:35 am

I understand what Chiara is saying, but what gives power to his few press conferences are bc they’re few. What I would really love to see is not PBO punching back at these people all the time, but somehow creating a great philosophical framing of what democrats stand for. Why our way is better for everybody, including the rich in the long run. That framing would help not just him, but democrats running everywhere. Reagon has done that for the Rethugs.

Well here’s a twist on the Rachel Maddow saga. Apparantly her huge moral imperative regarding PBO saying what she wants to hear about same sex marriage equality, she is apparently against it for herself! I kid you not. She lives in Mass with her long time partner and Mass has had marriage equality laws on their books since 2004. And where does she spend her time when not in Mass? Why NY of course. So she is associated with 2 states with marriage equality laws yet doesn’t want to exercise her rights under those laws, but is mad that the President isn’t saying what she wants to hear about it!

The hypocracy is staggering. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Maddow#Personal_life I couldn’t care less what she wants to do with her private life, but don’t be a #ltdanchoi hypocrite about it.

This was priceless! Well done to the constituents, but everyone needs to be this prepared. These bully Republicans have about five talking points total and no ability to think for themselves. So they’re not able to respond when asked a follow up question or when challenged on their twisted and failed beliefs. Every.Single.One.Of.Them crumbles when they are challenges, just like any bully. Just like that movie – “they can’t handle the truth”!

    • July 3, 2011 at 4:54 am

This was priceless. The Republicans think they can win this issue, how? Telling the public that it is okay to ask you to sacrifice, but the rich people we can’t ask them to sacrifice. where is the fairness. The Republicans have no problem cutting something which helps some elderly person, or some disable child, or hungry child, but no we can’t ask the Koch Brothers or the oil companies, or the CEO’s on Wall St. to sacrifice alittle bit more like the poor and middle class have too. They can’t win this one. They are willing to have America default on paying it’s bills, just to protect the rich.
