See ya later Chips. I’ll be trying to calm my withdrawal symptoms with an all day marathon of Golden Girls and Frasier on Hallmark.

Chips have a Baracktastic day…..I’m off to play with paper and paint and revitalize my inner “crafty kid” that for too long has had to remain still.
    It will be heaven.

Wow…..Wow……… I can’t wait for the overall numbers, that includes PBO fundraising…This is just incredible. 🙂

The final numbers are in. Thanks to you, we absolutely blew away our grassroots goal for Thursday’s Federal Election Commission (FEC) fundraising deadline.

Because of your incredible support, we raised a goal-shattering $1,124,914. More importantly, we blew past our goal of 200,000 donors for the year with more than 210,000 people stepping up to contribute.

Your support has sent an unmistakable message to the world that Democrats can and will win back the House next year. On behalf of the DCCC, I can’t thank you enough.

I wanted to post this here too for everyone, I hope you’ll all participate:
    http://dccc.org/page/s/july2011call

This is an interactive conference call with Nancy Pelosi and the DCCC- when you sign up you can state any questions/concerns you have.. I wrote that I would like to know if they have plans, or will implement plans to put more dems on teevee political/news show that support the President and his agenda, as I am tired of seeing/ hearing bashing of POTUS by dems on teevee. So PLEASE lets all get involved with this and do what we are becoming quite expert at: Making our voices heard and counted 😉

Also.. I took my son to see Transformers 3 last night.. and there is a moment in there where they show the hero in a photo receiving a medal from President Barack Obama.. then they have a brief scene with a ‘look alike’- but I swear its our President’s voice speaking. Whats cute is how the hero refers to President Obama as: POTUS. Later when he’s trying to get a job, one company won’t hire him because they’re all republicans in that office. Its cute.. what kind of surprised me here in this town of right-wingers- no one booed the President and in fact laughed at the republican line.

      July 2, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Great idea! I want to ask why it’s so hard to hear from people who support the President, and so easy to hear from people who don’t. I don’t want a lockstep party, however handy it would be at times. I like the messiness of having a truly big tent. But I can’t understand why they don’t see that when his own team doesn’t support him, even when it disagrees, it makes it easier for the “other side” to get away with their nonsense.

        July 2, 2011 at 1:52 pm

Just put that exact question in and added this: “I also want to make it clear to the DCCC that I will not support anyone who has been bashing President Obama, so only add my email address to the list of his supporters.”

        • July 2, 2011 at 2:01 pm

          Well done Betsey- thank YOU!

My question will be Most of you will be on the ticket with President Obama in 2012, why should we vote for you if you are bashing everything he does.

            • July 2, 2011 at 2:20 pm

OOohh i like that Tulips- exactly right, because they will indeed be riding his coattails every chance they get… and who among them won’t want President Obama to come to their states and speak & rally with them?? He doesn’t need them to get elected but most of them will indeed need him to get elected. PLUS if they REALLY want him to get more done, be more liberal then why not suck up to him for crying out loud.. and they dang well need to suck up to WE THE PEOPLE 🙂 🙂 I’m joking with the term suck-up.. what I want is for them to recognize that in supporting him, standing up for him- we will get far more of our agenda than when they bash him and allow wins for republicans. The people in this country already let it be known that they WANT President Barack Obama, and I KNOW we’re going to do it again.. thus get on board with US elected Dems, getting on board with us is the same as getting on board with POTUS- for the most part we like what he is doing and how he does it. something like 80-90% of democrats SUPPORT President Barack Obama, it behooves our elected dems to do the same, imo.

                  July 2, 2011 at 8:41 pm

I think that’s the truth which has puzzled most of us. The need to support the POTUS agenda which is widely supported by the American public. It is obvious outside the bubble of Washington DC. Inside…. not so much.

                  • July 2, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Now that is a really good point flint. . they have to be aware of it because they have the numbers from the election.. and the media are constantly running their little polls- of course they opening acknowledge those polls on air when they are less than fully supportive of POTUS. But even our dems know how popular he is- or they wouldn’t look to him to support their campaigns as many did in 2010.

    • July 2, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Thanks, Sherijr. They got a three-part question from me. Of course I asked them why we only see Democrats on TV only to criticize our president or why did we not see any one of them on TV condemning Mark Halperin.

Other questions were on their messaging and lack of appearances on TV, especially Sunday shows.

      July 2, 2011 at 5:10 pm

Thanks, sherijr – I was just catching up on all the news and found this. I signed up and sent a question asking the Democratic leadership if they will close ranks and speak up in support of the President. I added my own feelings about this, and I hope that they will take notice. You are quite right, we are seeing some very encouraging ramping up in making our voices heard. If an old techno-idiot like me can learn to tweet, we can all do it. If nearly half a million people can make a donation to the campaign in a very short period of time, it is clear evidence of widespread and deeply felt support for our President. Let’s keep going and I want to say thank you to all the wonderful supporters on this blog. Chipsticks has created a power house that we can all use to raise our voices even more. Have a happy 4th of July!!

Wohoooooooo!!!! Thanks for this Nellcote. Chalk one up for the right side and for the good guys: President Obama and his administration. I commend the President for directing his DOJ to tell the courts in the Karen Goelinski case that not only is Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, but ALL of DOMA is unconstitutional! I commend them for going a step further and listing case by case instances of how the government has unjustly treated LGBT individuals due to the constraints of DOMA. I can’t wait for when President Obama wins re-election and the Dems once again control both houses, so that this unjust law can be struck down.

ps: I bet you won’t hear the PL, Rachel Maddow and looney tunes Dan Choi talking about this or commending the President for sticking up for gay rights and marriage. You know what? I’m going to tweet this story and link to shoddy Maddow. Her twitter handle is @maddow.

Thank you Sherijr…..let’s make it easy for MSNBC to make the switch, (after all is all about ratings).

He’s a big advocate for PBO. We need his voice in the Media

        • July 2, 2011 at 8:27 pm

Actually, Kasai, after MSNBC’s miserable week of Maddow, Morning Joke & Halpern, I think they’e trying to placate PBO’s supporters, particularly his Black supporters, by plugging in Rev Al Sharpton. Cenk’s the temporary sacrificial lamb. They’re hoping we’ll forget about their shenanigans.

          • July 2, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Based on the reaction I saw/heard here, I somehow don’t think placation will work anymore, Ametia. At least, I hope not. I got a very strong sense that the Mark guy’s comment was the final straw, and as we all know that it was not a slip i don’t see people forgetting no matter what new song and dance they pull. [Having awaken the sleeping lion (us), they can’t stuff us back into silence.) In addition, their hatred has been so ingrained and ongoing that I doubt it’ll be long before another of them reveal his/her true feelings. In the meantime, wouldn’t it be great if Rev Sharpton could be such an effective replacement that the Cenk guy has to be put to pasture? Yeah. I’m dreaming.

            • July 2, 2011 at 9:32 pm

I know this community can NOT be placated. I merely wanted to put it out there for whomever might be lurking and thinks otherwise.

I have confidence that Rev. Al will do the timeslot justice. I’m just not that in to MSNBC anymore.

              • July 2, 2011 at 10:18 pm

I hear you. 😆 I waved my goodbye to the tubes during Prez O’s last campaign (truthfully, I really started watching them BECAUSE of the campaign) and I have never regretted it. Watching all of them corrupt his speeches and pontificate dishonestly on his intentions drove me up the wall daily to the point where I discovered myself yelling at my TV ( it was my first real-life lesson with unrelenting media bias, even from journalists who were supposed to be liberal). Not previously being the yelling type, that was when I realized that it was time to check out. So, I turned them off, found me some blogs, and recaptured the real me. 🙂 Now I only hear what they are up to in passing when someone connects to them on my favourite sites, and my blood pressure has been the better for this decision,

Absolutely, it would be great. It is important to have faces that represent the other colors in the American rainbow. I feel bad because I canceled our cable, and of course I told MSNBC I was done with them. I will follow him on the internet, just him, none of those other jokers.

I absolutely don’t think we should let up, it’s important to demonstrate conviction. I want them to change, I am not going to be satisfied with attempts to placate.

    • July 2, 2011 at 3:26 pm

We need to make a big push on his first day. Send his ratings through the roof. I will send e-mails to Tom Joyner, etc. telling them to push this on their radio shows, too.

I never watch Cenk, but if he never appears again, it wouldn’t be too soon for me.

With everything that has gone on with the girl in the 8 p.m. slot and then GOP hack No. 1, they may be auditioning the Rev. for his own hour. It is about freaking time.

I don’t like that Cenk character either. Where the heck did Msnbc fine him? But they manage to fine that jack donkey Mark Halperin.

    • July 2, 2011 at 9:11 pm

I’m just reading down the thread, and realize that my expressed wish above to see Cenk overshadowed by Sharpton was already addressed (and addressed). As usual it gives me an inward chuckle to see how often we are of the same mindset here at TOD.

Don’t give up on Rachel Maddow. I was very disappointed in her comments about “Obama wouldn’t have supported NY’s new law …” (to paraphrase) but she is an incredible liberal voice and shines the spot light on a ton of key issues that nobody else discusses. Let’s let her know we disagree with her and let her know why she is wrong. Maybe she will admit that she is wrong … she seems too smart to make such a dumb blanket statement. With the right feedback we can get her back on track. We need her on the team!!!

    • July 2, 2011 at 5:54 pm

Screw Rachel Maddow. She’s comeback from the Twitter/blog hits with too bad y’all mad with me, but I’m still standing by my comments. POTUS is still against what happened in NY.

I would love to tell Ms. Maddow tell me what she think of President Michele Buchmann, and that husband of hers, the things he said about homosexuality. People like Maddow and Choi are like the Republicans, we have to have what we want, when we want it, never mind what this President have already done for the LBGT community. I think that Buchmann husband ought to open their eyes about alot of things.

    • 70 Sue in Minnesota
      July 2, 2011 at 11:23 pm

A in GA…I think you should stick with her if you choose. I am done. She has messed up before IMO, and my own opinion is that she has a personal issue with the President. I think she is smart, and she is good at calling out the Republicans. However, her lack of objectivity with LGBT issues, the continued platform she gives to Dan Choi, and her baseless accusations last week against the President are simply a bridge too far for me. I am very intolerant of lying and liars, and IMO she lied last week, and isn’t ready or willing to apologize. Her mock address to the nation re the BP spill, her activism and personal approach to LGBT issues, and my instinct that she is acting on some need to compete intellectually with the President, leaves me disenfranchised. If she is so f*#king brilliant, and has a better way of doing things she should run for the office. America has 300,000,000 plus arm chair quarterbacks, it’s no wonder people find politics a hard pill to swallow.

          • July 2, 2011 at 6:49 pm

The Republicans don’t get that. Republicans haters want to say the President is making it a class warfare. I say I call it a class of being fair. You can’t ask the poor and middle class to sacrifice but the people who could afford to pay alittle more, you want to leave them alone. How fair is that? I was on Huffington post and I said that very thing. I said the Republicans have been sabotaging this economy for 2012, and they are playing with fire with this refusing to raise the debt ceiling.

Ametia, your posting this video is an amazing coincidence! On a previous thread, Loriah just finished hours researching the web trying to locate this very video. I had been looking for it for weeks and asked about it on a previous TOD thread last night after someone posted a comment about how President Obama can “crush” his critics. Loriah took it upon herself to help me find the video. She wasn’t able to locate it for me until this afternoon–having no way of knowing you would post this video later today here on TOD.

What impressed me most about the video when I first saw it is not just that then Sen. Obama vowed to “crush them” (his opponents) but the way he followed up his comment with that wonderful million dollar smile. I made the comment to Loriah that President Obama’s smile is both a gift and a weapon that can be used to make both friends and foes alike yield to his momentary will. I added that with a smile like that he must have been ‘something else’ when he was a single man. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi Sue; you’re welcome. What are your thoughts on the partial MN government shutdown?

        • 93 Sue in Minnesota
          July 2, 2011 at 11:51 pm

It makes me furious. Of course I stand with Governor Dayton……our Republicans have become very extreme, same as the national trend. Also Minnesota has a lot of wealthy people and they are coddled, they do not shoulder their fair share of the tax burden. Tim Pawlenty played a very big roll into bringing us where we find ourselves today. No one with a brain, and without a self serving agenda should buy into the crap that these Republicans are fiscal conservatives. Tim Pawlenty was the ultimate spend and charge Republican.

I am fair minded even though life is rarely fair, I’m always trying to find balance. I have a hard time (I’m told I am an idealist) understanding how these elected officials think shutting down the government is what they were elected to accompolish. Waste of tax payers money, time and energy, and good faith, and of course is a disservice to all who depend on them. Wish all these anti government, Ayn Rand’ers would leave, find an island somewhere or move to Somalia, I hear it’s paradise….not.

Thanks again for calling up this video….President Obama is my role model for self actualization and excellence. I am always grateful that he has dedicated himself to the welfare and safe keeping of America.

          • July 3, 2011 at 4:26 pm

Happy Sunday, Sue, I stand firm with Governor Dayton too. I’m gla he didn’t back down from the Republicans. It will be iand yes, Tim Pawlenty left our state iwith a $5 billion deficit. No reveune no tax increase; although he was slick to add waht he called “fees “to other incidentials. It’ll be nteresting to see how the shutdown plays out. Right now parks are closed for the holiday. MN is going to take an even larger hit in the pocketbook the longer the shutdown. Unemployed folks getting 50% benefits and medical coverage, and not even working. NOT.GOOD.

Jovie, what is your fixation with the HILL blog? This is a right leaning rag that you keep posting which is very negative towards the President.

Chipsticks and our family here, have a wonderful weekend. I have my flag out for July 4th celebration and I have one out for Malia’s birthday. I love the Garden Flags, so I have my monthly message one, and then in another flower bed, I have one that says,”Happy Birthday.” My neighbors are asking me whose birthday(most of them know that mine is not until the fall) but this one has fireworks on it and it is, just plain beautiful. So then I tell them about celebrating one of our First Daughter’s birthday, and they get wide-eyed and start asking why. (Well, it is my house and yard, so) This is NOT Obama’s territory where I live. Very oppositional here. But I love it. I also have one for President’s birthday for next month. I am driving them out of their minds. Fun, fun.

Good evening TODers. I trust everyone has had or is still having a fun day with friends and family. I’ve been thinking a lot about the #msmfail and would like to see the energy we threw at ‘The Dick Guy’ sent to the media tomorrow during the weekly convergence of the Sunday Talking Heads. (cue twilight zone music)

Instead of focusing on their behavior, let’s focus on their lies. We know they always let these republican operatives spew lies and never call them out on it, so maybe we can do their jobs for them. For every lie or spin, lets tweet and email them the truth. When someone says the president made the econ worse, we send them lots of links to charts, OMB reports and the like.

If they don’t use the information then we ratchet up and tweet and email that we did their jobs for them, why are they still letting lies stand.

Basically we need to hound them and call them out at every turn.

By the way, how do I add my name to the tweeter list. I saw the list the day after it was compiled and asked but I think everyone had moved on by then. My twitter moniker: lunar_sea

Great. Will start rounding up links to be at the ready. Not sure what will be discussed by can guess from the line ups what info to have ready:

CBS: MA Health Care Program/successes, MA Employment/growning green energy industry, Wis shutdown, increase unemployment due to gov layoffs, Koch Bros and privatization of public resources and industry, Recall initiative, Barring public from state debates, Judges with anger management issues, history and pattern of lost votes and voter irregularities by republicans NOT dems.

CNN: Rubber stamping foreclosure docs, banks making it hard to refinance, infrastructure funding/jobs. High speed rail. Community colleges and new manufacturing jobs. Lybia UN resolution, ICC Kahdafi criminal charges.

FOX: well, we never know where that psychotic bunch will take us. I question if they are worth the effort.

These are my thoughts based on who they are having on. Of course I have no idea but I will gather links to be prepared. Anyone else have suggestions on topics that may be discussed please post it.

    • July 2, 2011 at 10:48 pm

LunarSea I love your idea. We have to keep the pressure up on the media and the lying GOP. Social media has given us power and we must use it. Every time I see a tweet from Cantor and Boehner bashing the Prez on jobs, I tweet back that Rs have created 0 jobs, 0 jobs bills.

I even have Romney and T-Paw’s team following me. Okay with me. I “ain’t” scared.

I think it’s great what you are doing.

Would you let us know about their tweets so we can all respond using whatever you think would be an appropriate hash tag?

T-Paw is history and Mittens is barely holding on, which is why he is now following the President around. Trying to stay relevant.

Call out the lies, the lack of Democratic party representation, but also nail the hosts when they fail to challenge the lies.

I cancelled cable….not a tweeter, but I’ll check in and will contribute e-mails and phone calls, to any of them, all of them (shit..I think I just quoted Scarah Palin). I am just getting familiarized with Facebook….as of today, I am not up to speed. Techno retard that I am.

Hey Ameita, IMO we should not be linking to Posts whose main focus is to beat up every day of every minute on President Barack Obama. Every time someone clicks onto those posts the attacker gets attention and we elevate their sick opinions..

The TOD family is lead by Chipsticks and she sets the tone for us to stay inspired….The right has an ECHO chamber that is loud enough and we don’t have to give them our focus or support….

? Hi Michele, mind telling me which link you’re referring to? I respect TOD community and am well aware of Chiptsticks role here.

UPDATED & EDITED because I’ve made a mess of this!

Sorry for butting in Ametia, but just to explain, I deleted some links (NOT YOURS!) that were, I’ve no doubt, posted in good faith, but we all know where to go if we want to read right wing talking points about the President – not here!

          July 3, 2011 at 10:06 am

Hi Chipsticks. In all fairness, I’d appreciate knowing at least the topics of the links I posted, and you deleted, so that I know what’s not acceptable here. i don’t believe I’ve intentionally gone to rightwing sites and posted talking points here. I don’t do it on my own site. Thanks!

          • July 3, 2011 at 10:10 am

            UPDATED!

Ametia, really sorry for the confusion, I wasn’t referring to anything you posted at all. I was referring to my request to someone else not to link classic right wing Dem-bashing stuff from sites like Politico or The Hill. I’ve never deleted any of your comments or links, there’s never been any need to!

Just to explain the muddle – I replied to your comment to me through the Admin page of the site, so I didn’t see the earlier comments on this issue (if that makes any sense at all) and thought we were referring to someone else posting Politico/Hill stuff.

So when I replied I hadn’t seen the objection to you posting the Natasha Lennard article (the truth is, I’d already posted it – http://theobamadiary.com/2011/06/29/ah-bless-maddow-defended-by-fragile-irrational-fact-ignoring-cheerleader/ – just to expose her GOPolitico/Click background) so my reply made it sound like I’d deleted something you’d linked! I’m an idiot, sorry!

Really sorry again for the muddle, Ametia, entirely my fault – just to repeat, I’m hugely grateful for everything you contribute here.

            • July 3, 2011 at 10:15 am

Thank you, for your quick response, Chipsticks. Have a great 4th. 🙂

              • July 3, 2011 at 10:15 am

You too Ametia! And sorry again for the confusion, I’m grateful for all your contributions here.

                • July 3, 2011 at 11:10 am

                  Hi Chipsticks!

I’m glad you cleared that up because I was getting confused. Ametia is a fierce advocate for President Obama. She did some back breaking hard word in Minnesota for the President in 09 & it earned her a seat sitting directly behind the President at a rally there. We were extremely proud of Ametia. Folks just don’t get handed those kind of seats. You have to earn them. Again, I’m glad you cleared that up because I was going…huh?

                  • July 3, 2011 at 11:35 am

Hiya SouthernGirl, I made a complete mess of this – see my updated comments! Apologies again to Ametia, there is no fiercer advocate for the President!
