That set me off in an ugly old cranky rant on “Tweeter”. I called Lt. Choi a self-made martyr and a media whore….
His crusade became about himself and his rising star on MSNBC, not the greater good. In my opinion, President Obama became the target of “his” movement, and he lost sight of the LGBT movement….
As you know, Lt. Choi, Rachel Maddow, and Michael Moore all have the opinion that Obama would have voted against the gay marriage bill in NY. This is simply, unequivocally false…..
….his positions on issues are not based on his religious beliefs or political scheming but the most pragmatic, quickest way to do the right thing for people of the United States. Thus, he has used and is using his executive powers to make it easier for unions to organize, to implement parts of the DREAM Act, and to obtain civil rights for LGBT’s. If Congress won’t get the job done, then Obama looks for other avenues.

As for Don Choi, I suppose he thinks that Presidents Bachmann, Romney, Gingrich, Cain, Santorum, Palin, Perry, and Pawlenty, would be out there campaigning for gay marriage, or would have pushed for ending DADT, or would have refused to defended the Constitutionality of DOMA. Choi, like Beck, has learned that you can make quick money and name recognition bashing President Obama. He may be gay, but I honestly doubt that he is at all concerned with advancing gay rights. Choi just loves the limelight. Thankfully, serious gay activists still support the President.

Good question hopefruit2! IMO, Don Choi hates the President. It really doesn’t matter what President Obama does. He just hates him. Period. He is trying to manufacture outrage at the President by using the gay marriage issue. Most thoughtful gays I know are absolutely convinced that President Obama is a strong supporter of gay equality. After all, he has done more than any other President in history to advance gay rights. Even more impressive is that he has been to do all that in just two and half years in office.
