The American Prospect: For what must be the hundredth time, Politico warns that Jews are getting ready to abandon Barack Obama:
“One said he had the sense that Obama “took the opportunity to throw Israel under the bus.” … If several dozen interviews with POLITICO are any indication, a similar conversation is taking place in Jewish communities across the country. Obama’s speech last month seems to have crystallized the doubts many pro-Israel Democrats had about Obama in 2008 in a way that could, on the margins, cost the president votes and money in 2012 and will not be easy to repair.”
Oh, please…. We’ve been hearing this ever since Obama became the Democratic nominee in 2008. Jews don’t trust him! He had Palestinian friends! There’s that Reverend Wright! Here’s an article from May 2008: “As Obama Heads to Florida, Many of Its Jews Have Doubts.” And guess what: Obama won 78 percent of Jewish votes anyway. John Kerry got 74 percent in 2004, and Al Gore got 79 percent in 2000. In other words, Obama did pretty much exactly as well as other Democrats.
…in the end, Obama will have no trouble raising money, and getting votes, from Jews … Sarah Palin can put on a Star of David necklace, but that’s never going to convince Jews that they’re part of the Republican family. GOP candidates can talk about their love of Israel all they want, but it won’t be enough.

Oh, bullshit. There are some older generation Jews that measure everything by the Israel yardstick. They – some of my relatives – lost loved ones in the Holocaust. I do not try to reason with them. More modern Jews see the complexity, and believe in this Presidency. My own father, who was the only member of his family to escape the extermination is a Obama supporter because of his stands on Medicare. Jews are not monolithic. Teabaggers are, the PL is. But we are not.

Well said GC! The Obama haters are doing everything to divide his supporters! One day it’s the Gay Community, featuring Don Choi. The next day it’s the African American Community, featuring Cornel West. Now it’s the Jewish Community, I suppose featuring Israel PM Netanyahu, who, the last time I checked, is not a voter. I am sure the next segment from Politico, and the so called liberal media, would be about Hispanics/Latinos abandoning the President because he did not FORCE congress to enact the DREAM Act. Wait, I missed one group: I think I read some where about Labor Unions abandoning Obama because he did not show up to lead the Labor protests in Wisconsin. Oh! how could I have forgotten the environmentalists! After all, didn’t the former VP, Al Gore, who praised Obama’s environmental policies for the most part, but then, as an aside, said that Obama failed to use the bully pulpit to worn people about the impending calamity of global warming, signal that the environmentalists are also abandoning the President. Which leads me to ask this question: If all these groups are abandoning the President, how come polls still show that 80% of Democrats support him and over 50% independents support him?
Gc, I think you are right for calling this “bullshit.” Clearly this is all about the right wing tactics and agenda of trying to divide and conquer loyal Democratic voters. It is also about demoralizing Democratic voters in 2012. It didn’t work in 2008, and I hope that It won’t work in 2012.
Gop and their types are trying to put a wedge between Obama and ANY of his supporters. Hispanics, gays or Jewish Americans. If they didn’t get the “don’t even go there” from the black community they would have done same with that coumminity, too. I understand why some older Jews are very concerned for Isreal, but I also think they’re smart enough to know the evangelical types who holler about Isreal have their own motives. Not just electorally here in the US, but for religious reasons as well. They couldn’t care less about the Jews, but care about the land upon which Jesus is said to have walked, and will return to, to make everybody THEIR TYPE of christian.
