‘eight myths to chill an old-school republican soul’

St Louis Dispatch: When Sen. Jon Kyl and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor quit the (no longer) bipartisan deficit-reduction talks last week, it was not exactly a “Profiles in Courage” moment.

Serious deficit reduction can’t be – and shouldn’t be – accomplished without tax increases and broad elimination of tax expenditures, which would have the effect of raising taxes. The National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform last year acknowledged that … But tax increases, in whatever guise, fail the current Republican purity laws…

It’s sad to see what has happened to the Party of Lincoln … Today we have the spectacle of smart, patriotic men and women putting their brains and integrity on ice to please a party dominated by anti-intellectual social Darwinists and the plutocrats who finance and mislead them……

    Good Evening, Chips –

What’s your email address, I cannot find it on the website. I wanted to send you something, and it goes without saying that it’s about our lovely president

Lawrence O’Donnell read this editorial tonight on his show. He had some ssmartly sarcastic remarks about people like Sean Hannity who think the “only real Americans live in the heartland, no real Americans live in New York” then he read this, and emphasized that it was from St. Louis, the heart of the heartland. This is a scathing editorial, and should be sent everywhere! Thanks for posting it.

Extremely well said Carolyn. I second you in thanking Chipsticks for posting this incredible piece here. The fact that it came from St. Louis, MO makes it even more compelling. It cannot be easily dismissed as the rants of pointy head liberal from New York or San Francisco. Clearly, the writer of the editorial is intimately knowledgeable about the idiotic Tea-publican platform, which is clearly divorced from reality. This must be shared widely.

Again, thanks to Chipsticks for the wonderful job in bringing us all this enlightening information!

Yay! Thanks for posting it, Chips!

Lawrence read this like he was reading Shakespeare. It was a thing of beauty. I haven’t read a takedown so perfect in a long time. It really says all that needs to be said about today’s TeaO’Pee. It needs to go viral — and I suspect it will.
