June 30th at 11:59 p.m. is the first big deadline of this campaign. At that moment, we’ll close the books on this financial quarter and begin preparing our fundraising report to the Federal Election Commission, the press, and the public.
Our opponents are chasing Washington lobbyists and special-interest PACs for big checks ahead of the deadline …..we refuse money from Washington lobbyists and special-interest PACs. And rather than setting a goal of millions of dollars, we’re setting a goal of 550,000 grassroots donations by the June 30th deadline.
The number of contributions we earn in this quarter will be the definitive record of how strong our support was at the very start … Will you chip in another $15 or whatever you can afford to help us hit our goal? ….What happens between now and Thursday will shape the story of how the 2012 race began.

Washington Post: Crossroads GPS, a conservative-aligned outside organization, is pledging to spend $20 million over the next two months on ads aimed at shaping the national debate on jobs, the economy and the federal debt.
….The first wave of ads will begin airing Monday with a $5 million buy that will include national cable television as well as broadcast stations in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, and Virginia. The initial flight of ads will run for two weeks.

Roll Call: Familiar faces are behind a new effort to challenge President Barack Obama. The Republican operatives who created Tea Party Express, the leading political action committee of the tea party movement, recently launched a separate PAC called the Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama.
By creating the independent group, the organizers can raise more money and be a stronger force in the upcoming presidential race.
The new group has the ambitious goal of organizing 1 million people against the president through television ads, online petitions and grass-roots events. More than 46,000 people have signed the group’s online petition “to defeat Barack Obama” since January.

Oh Tulips, you’re just the best. These pleas for donations must be very hard for people who are unemployed and/or are struggling to make ends meet, so please don’t ever feel pressured by them. It’s not that hard to get a bunch of keyboard warriors to sign a petition. They’ve only gotten 46,000 since January. Not a good start if they want to get to one million. People signing petitions online is not an indicator of people willing to contribute money regularly. Especially when that particular organization has proven itself to be less than worthless as an organizing entity. The Tea Party Express was an epic fail.
It’s those super pac ads the next two months that we need to be finding ways to counter.

I’m so happy that Karl Rove and friends are throwing their money away. PBO has been under attack since the day he took the oath of office, nothing new here, other than to rile up the loony base. What possible effect can these ads have on an election one and a half year away? The economy in June ’12 will be much different than it is today. They must be counting on the repugs voting against raising the debt limit, in which case the polls show that voters will blame the repugs and not PBO.
I totally agree Debz! Also, they could not turn those polls about Paul Ryan’s budget plan. I think the President is demostrating what an effective politician he is. He and the Dems have done a good job setting the debate in the country. It will be about jobs but more important who does the American public trust to create those jobs and how to create jobs. The Repubs talk about cutting taxes and the trickle down effect has run its course.
It is going to be difficult for the repugs to sell their nonsense this time. Between the Ryan budget and all of the repub govs taking away worker’s rights, cutting funding for schools and laying off workers. I would say that voters are finally waking up. All of these attack ads are saying nothing new, it’s the same we have all been hearing from them for decades. One big difference this time is that they are not even trying to hide their disdain for the middle class and are proud of their plans to destroy medicare and ss, in the past they just danced around these issues.

To combat this move, Democratic Leader Pelosi has announced that House Democrats will now triple-match every grassroots contribution received before the mid-year Federal Election Commission (FEC) deadline on June 30th. I sent this email to Chipsticks on Thursday. Maybe Chipsticks can help us with this!!!! 🙂
Yes, they are different. The triple pledge is from the Democratic Congressional Committee Campaign and Chipsticks is OFA, but it all is going to help re-elect President Obama. So give what you can to where you can barb.
If you go to google and type in Million Dollar Match campaign, you will find all types of organizations using this title. They are bombing the internet with “Million Dollar Campaign” from the Bush School, RiverParkCenter, Humane Society. Nampa Christian School etc. So we have to be very careful that we know who we are contributomg to. What I found was the DCCC but that was for March 31. We need some clarification please.

By the way, I got a call from the DCCC asking for money. I told them that I was sorely disappointed in that Libya vote and I would be giving to the DNC and OFA.
President Obama’s next major fundraising filing will show a dramatic increase in the number of small donors so far this year compared with 2008, his campaign said Saturday.
“We had 180,000 contributors at this point in the last campaign; now it’s well over 300,000,” said spokesman Ben LaBolt in an email previewing the upcoming filing. LaBolt declined to elaborate except to say in his note that the filing will show “small dollar contributors back in greater numbers.”
