‘factory production is starting to rev back up’

AP: Factory orders are picking up and the economy may soon follow.

A rise in demand for long-lasting manufactured goods in May suggests the parts shortage stemming from the Japan crises is fading. It would also support the view offered by many economists, who have suggested that the economic slowdown is temporary and that growth will strengthen this summer after six dismal months.

Still, the projected growth won’t be enough to make a noticeable dent in the unemployment rate, which was 9.1 percent last month.

….Economists have largely blamed the sluggish stretch on high gas prices, which have come down since peaking in early May. They have also cited the impact of the March 11th earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which has led to supply disruptions that have hampered U.S. manufacturers.

Factory production is starting to rev back up. Durable goods orders rose 1.9 percent, the Commerce Department said. Companies stepped up requests for machinery, computers and cars, and a key category that measures future business investment rose.

It was a solid turnaround after orders fell 2.7 percent in April, at the height of the parts shortage.

I really hope something will be in the news! FAIL MSM!

    • June 24, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I haven’t looked at the MSM all day and don’t intend to for the rest of the weekend.

I myself can’t wait until 2012 because after the re-election of this president I will be going Independent. I’m done with these back stabbing buzzards and any monies I have to donate will be going for the rel-election of the president or my local democrats.

Kucinich is from my home state and I’m almost tempted to donate to his republican challenger whom ever that might be!

Just please tell us you are joking about donating to a repug. These are the same people who would still medicine out of your mouth to give more tax breaks to the corporate friends….

The way I see it, you have a sitting democratic member of congress who filed suit against the sitting democratic president……so What good is he?

          • June 24, 2011 at 9:46 pm

They still voted for the Affordable Health Care, DADT repeal, the Start Treaty etc…. so there is a huge difference…. Those other bums have still not create a job bills and also voted to change Medicare so it matters…

I know Michele, but i have a white hot dislike for this man…….he uses every attack on the President as a fundraiser.

He had better hope that the president has long coat tails next year because he’s going to need them.

Hey bjw2, the former governor of MA is a loser and when our beloved President Obama uses his charm, wit, and looks to educate the country that former joke of a governor will wish he was still living in his son basement….

Good night my friend….and keep the faith in our party… Remember our President said a democracy is messy but with him as our leader the good will beat evil… Ex: bin laden and the psycho gang killer in MA.

I think Twitter is in some ways very counterintuitive. I’ve been on for almost a year and there are still things that don’t make complete sense but when you sign up, you just have to jump in and start following people you’re interested in. Start tweeting your own original tweets and also react to news by replying or retweeting messages. The new layout/interface they launched a few months ago makes it easier to do all of this. Jump in and swim!!

Sonia it is just like Facebook. Sign up, log in and the what’s on your mind is the same except you are limited to 140 characters. If you a have an article to link to, just add the link.

Hey Chipsticks I’ve got another gem from Stephen Colbert. It’s entitled Nation Building and he mocks the left and the right for their unsolicited advice giving to the President on his Afghan policy speech. His take on nation building is hilarious. Stephen Colbert has been on fire and I am loving it. Suck it Jon Stewart….. there’s a new sheriff in town.
