Good morning Chips and every one. I just checked out the WH website, they set up a page following the First Lady’s trip. I’m looking forward to seeing photos of FLOTUS and the girls.
Good morning, TOD family. Lots of rain here in Indiana. I read a comment somewhere that President Obama’s biggest opponent is the media. I agree with that. The Rs cannot beat him so as we know the media is doing its best to help them. We know it won’t work because America is on to the media. But let’s not slow down the fight. Also, saw the Reggie Brown story covered on Headline News this morning. No where else. Shame.
I SAW CNN’S DON LEMMON REPORT ON IT LAST NIGHT…BUT THE ONLY THING SAID WAS THAT THE COMEDIAN WAS ESCORTED OFFSTAGE. THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE REPUGS REJECTED IT.
Stephanie Miller played snippets this morning, too – although I didn’t catch the whole show. I heard them saying that the Republicans were trying to imply that they rejected the impersonator because of his racist jokes, but it’s clear from the audio that they were laughing heartily during the disgusting racist parts, and then got upset when the spotlight was turned to them. I don’t like that she played the audio, but happy that she pointed out the truth, while Republicans are trying to spin it differently.
Proud, I could not agree more that President Obama’s biggest opponent is the media. I really think many in the media are intimidated by his brilliance. They are not used to covering a politician that makes them look inept and small. So they use their most powerful tool “the filter” to marginalize everything he does.
Why aren’t they reporting the fact that the Republicans have not introduced any jobs bills since taking the majority? Why aren’t they reporting that there is a systematic attempt by Republican states to disenfranchise voters? Why aren’t they attempting to educate the public on the debit limit and the implications of not increasing it?
The media has abdicated their responsibility to educate and inform the public. When you look at the focus during the last few weeks on Sarah Palin, Donald Trump and Anthony Weiner you can see precisely why the American people don’t have a clue about the accomplishments of President Obama and his administration.
I know the White House is constantly looking for ways to circumvent the media firewall. For starters, I would love to see more promotion of the whitehouse.gove website. It is a treasure trove of information. But I wonder how many American are even aware of it. I think most Americans would be shocked to see all of the projects and initiatives that are being implemented on their behalf.
Ladyhawke, part of the media actions might be because PBO is so exceptional and they can’t handle it. But the bigger reason, IMO, is that the media is owned by corporations which support the republican agenda. Therefore, their coverage is intentionally designed to support republicans.
My undergrad degree is in journalism and grad degree in publishing. When I was in school — eons ago — we were taught that objectivity and accuracy was the holy grail. Now that corporations own the media, journalists select stories, people to quote, footage, everything to further the right wing agenda.
Re: Reggie Brown. We need to send this fool another email. CNN and MSNBC had him on to provide cover for the GOP. He kept saying he was pulled from the stage because he went over his time. We are not stupid. Everyone could see that the GOP laughed at his racist jokes and booed when he started in on them.
What an idiot.
And, he had the nerve to say he has a lot in common with PBO because his mother was white and his father was black. No, fool. PBO is a man of integrity and would never do what you did.
So true about the Republicans owning the media. It really is pathetic that there is such an imbalance. I remember having such high hopes when Air America radio launched in March of 2004. It was gone in January 2010.
On Reggie Brown, here’s a good post from PoliticusUSA

Good morning, TODville!! I hope everyone is well rested and ready for another week of hard work and excitement with the First Family. And another big bouquet of appreciation to Chips and everyone here who is part of this great community. Thank you, all.

Ed Henry moving to FOX. Why doesn’t that surprise me? CNN is becoming another FOX. No respect for Henry at all. I never have liked him. Couldn’t stand Ed Henry. And that guy at ABC,Jay Tapper.
How appropriate that he’s officially joining the circus, seeing as he’s been auditioning with his clown act for the last two years. Congratulations to him – they deserve each other. And when Fox finally goes down, he’ll go down with it. I hope he loses his White House credentials, since they only have room for one fool from Fox in the room. It just goes to show you what kind of values (journalistic and otherwise) he holds dear, after watching them do nothing resembling journalism for the past three years (and more). Good riddance.
He was only showing his loyalty to Fox and kissing up to Roger Ailes for what he’s now gotten – admission to the depths of muck that is Fox!
No surprise here! CNN and Fox have been engaged in this staff exchange program for a while now as almost every idiot on CNN has become even more rabid right wing and fact deficient each day!

Feel better, Fred. Cranberry juice??? Good for kidney infections….just check with your DR. to make sure that you are not on any meds that can’t be taken with cranberry juice:) Other than that…see if it helps.

Jovie, are you a reporter? Or just absolutely obsessed with finding the great posts that you put up? You are amazing!! A real news station (not the slime we are currently dealing with) would do well to have you runnin’ things!!!
I sent emails to ABC NEWS, CBS NEWS, NBC NEWS, CNN, MSNBC, asking them why is it they don’t or won’t ask Speaker Boehner and the Republicans what they are doing to produce jobs? I told them that I don’t expect them to be in love with President Obama, I just expect them to be fair. I told them that Boehner promise he would do something about jobs, and what have he done? What have he tried to do? I told them that the media want to place all the blame on President Obama, but the Republicans weren’t given control of the House 2010 to do nothing. What have they done about jobs? And I told them it was their job to ask these questions, not just blame President Obama for everything.
I am hoping your email had something to do with this. I was shocked to read that Bob Schieffer of Face The Nation actually asked Mitch McConnell a question about job creation.
AWAITING A “JOBS FIRST” AGENDA:
On CBS’s “Face the Nation” yesterday, host Bob Schieffer asked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) yesterday, “Do Republicans have any plans to do anything on the unemployment front or are you just going to let things take their course?” It seemed like a good question.
McConnell replied, “No, I — I think — what — what we’re doing is encouraging the president to — to quit doing what he’s doing.”
The Senate Minority Leader has clearly given job policy considerable thought. And to think I doubted him.
Jay Bookman did a nice job fact-checking McConnell’s other remarks — it’s as if the senator has no idea what he’s talking about when it comes to the economy — but the key takeaway here is the realization that McConnell doesn’t even think a jobs agenda is necessary. If he and his party simply stand in the way of the White House’s agenda — an agenda, by the way, that vastly improved the economy — everything will be fine.
.
.
I’m not especially optimistic about “Jobs First.” Getting Dems to agree to a meaningful plan will be like herding cats, and getting the GOP-led House to pass it will be impossible.
But I’m at least mildly encouraged by the shifting discussion. Instead of an all-deficit-all-the-time debate, Democrats are talking about what can be done to create jobs, while Republican deliberately ignore the issue. Here’s hoping Dems aim high and don’t let up.
And nose dive they will! 2012 will be a year that sees all these evil folks and their support systems implode! Watch and see!
By the end of 2012, only President Barack Obama will be left standing tall and magnificent!
Fox and all their partners and enablers will be totally decimated!
I have a hunch that Oprah Winfrey, might join Michelle in south Africa…..just a hunch, because I was reading on Oprah FaceBook page, that she had to cut her vacation short, and that she was going out of the country, she didn’t mention the country…but, being that Oprah has a school in S.Africa..and the First Lady message is about empowerment of our young Africans…what could be more appropriate…………?? I could be wrong………….but hope I am right:-)
Sweeeet! Hope so. Kasai, I think you are on to something! This would be so exciting. It really makes sense to me for the First Lady to stop by Oprah’s school. Can’t wait to here. 😀

Yes, that trip to Ghana was soul-wrenching. And seeing Mandela’s cell where he lost 27 years of his life for the sake of freedom is going to be another hard journey. My ancestry is South African, but I’ve always lived free in Western countries – it’s good to see this history and be reminded that many have gone before to allow me to live my life freely. There’s something very special about Africa.
