Steve Benen: The Koch Brothers’ Americans for Prosperity sponsored this year’s RightOnline conference in Minneapolis, and organizers and attendees were certainly on message … Tim Phillips, the president of Americans for Prosperity, continues to insist that President Obama “systematically” wants “higher prices on gasoline.”
…The talking points have been hammered home enough so that far-right activists can bark them like trained seals.
There are, however, two main problems with this. First, the notion that the Obama administration would want higher gas prices on purpose is deeply foolish … if voters don’t want to pay more at the pump, and the president doesn’t want to make voters angry in advance of his re-election bid, why would he deliberately pursue this?
Second, Tim Phillips appears to have a bit of a credibility problem – Americans for Prosperity just so happens to be financed by oil industry money. In other words, energy companies are financing a right-wing outfit to blame Obama for gas prices.

I would love to see the Koch Brothers brought down. They are evil.
yes siree buddy. Yes siree. They are Intimidating, dangerous, ummmmm devil’s workshop , not good
Evil and unfortunately …billionaires…….a lethal combination
When I think of people like the Koch brothers and folks like us, I’m reminded of the story in the Bible with David and Goliath. We are David, the Koch brothers are Goliath. I think we know who took that battle. And with the Lord on our side, he’s more than the whole wide world against us, including those lying Koch brothers. So don’t count us out. The Koch brothers can be brought down.
Oh yeahhhhhhhhhhhh, they will be dealt with. God Is sitting high, but he’s looking low, and God Is with his People
Hey Chips, interesting story about Netroots straw poll which showed PBO still strong. Take that Choi, Hamsher, et. all.

Proud, this is great to hear. Everyone in the media pays attention to those screamers and those who belittle. Yahoo. You have given my spirits a big lift. I am going to send this to Lawrence OD, Rachel, Ed and Chis. Let’s see if they tell the truth. Great start to a day.
I watched Fox Sunday this morning….yuck……..I wanted to see the interview with Jon Stewart.
He is disappointed with President Obama…..ok we know that…..he said it already…….whatever
He said that he voted for George H.W. Bush…………interesting.
So all these former Repujblicans now turned “liberal” to follow the money, huh?
No wonder he is Ariana’s BFF. He probably voted for Dubbya in 2000 & 2004 too. But he’ll never admit it because that would cost him roughly 2/3 of his current audience.
No, his voting for Bush I is not interesting, it’s the answer to why he’s so disappointed in PBO. Stewart is a closet republican. He is not a progressive or a liberal. He’s a republican who has been masquerading as a dem to cash in and make his show more popular. He’s now trying to get the youth vote to turn on the President. It will not happen.
Honestly I’m beginning to feel that way also POB. I think a lot of these so called progressives are closet repugs. They are mad that PBO has never and will never kowtow to them so they feign outrage that he isn’t doing enough to advance the progressive agenda. Colbert has been sooo much better. I hope he wins the Emmy over Stewart this year b/c Stewart has been annoying and LAME on all levels. First he refused to hold his buddy Weiner’s feet to the fire and when he was called out he acted like a baby; then bashed Weiner just so he could continue on his I’m so disappointed in Obama meme. They don’t seem to understand that PBO has been the most progressive President in US History. Who the heck ended DADT, who the heck adviced his justice dept to stop defendinfg DOMA, who the heck approved federal benefits for GLBT individuals and families, who the heck signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act on his first day in office and is working so hard to make the equal pay for equal work bill become law, who the heck urged the House of Reps to pass the Dream Act and is pushing hard for the Senate to do the same; That’s right it was President Barack Obama. They don’t seem to realize that PBO is not a dictator and this nation operates under a checks and balance system where the Legislative , Executive and Judicial branch wield equal power. They should hold the repubs feet to the fire. They’ve been in power since January 2011 and no jobs bill from them. And why no one is pointing out that it’s the Koch Brothers who are participating in oil speculation that raises oil and gas prices not PBO. They always bash PBO but never bash and disparage the true harbingers of destruction.
Loved your comment. It was hilarious to watch Stewart with the egg on his face when his great friend, Weiner, turned out to be a liar and guilty of all he was accused of. And instead of just acknowledging he was wrong for defending Weiner, that Weiner lied, they try to find a way to blame Weiner’s behavior on the President.
They are not progressives. They are just republicans who hate the President because of who he is — a brilliant leader who just happens to be black. And they just cannot get past that. They are despicable in their constant lies and denial of what the President has achieved for this country while letting the Rs skate and continue to try to destroy it. Stewart is a millionaire, so at the end of the day probably thinks what the Rs do won’t affect him.
Do these idiots even stop to think that if the Rs do have a chance to destroy the country their money won’t mean squat? Why do you think all the millionaires and billionaires were pissing in their pants for Bush to sign TARP? Because they knew the economy was about to explode because of what they had done. They were about to lose everything too.
Now Stewart and the unprofessional left want to accuse the President of bowing to Wall Street when what he did was save this damn country.
Ugh, Stewart and his ilk disgust me. I think I will send him a tweet to tell him so.
Quickdraw! Your back! Haven’t seen hide or hair of you in a long time. You had us worried there. How’s it going? Co-sign on every darn tootin’ thing you said, especially about that Republican shill in Progressive clothing, Jon G.W. Bush Stewart.
Hey Lisa. Summer schools been a crazy B—h ! Haven’t had time to check in and escape the madness of chemistry and calculus. I’m catching up on all the stuff I missed and hopefully I’ll be able to check in more frequently this week. Saw a couple of your comments and I co-sign on your comments chica. Especially that brilliant email and reply you sent to the agent of the Obama impersonator who made those vile, racist and disgusting “jokes.” I stand up and applaud you. Bravo! 🙂
These Republicans turned progressives think that a Republican is going to win the election, and they’re trying to align themselves on what they think will be the winning side. They’re in for a rude awakening. I haven’t watched Jon Stewart in a year, and I have no intention of doing so again. These people don’t care about the country or the world – just their bank accounts.
Today is Republican Affirmative Action Sunday so Tweety opens his show hyping up Romney with a so-called poll showing that 2/3 of GOP voters believe that Romney can beat President Obama. If that were true, then why aren’t they excited about him? Why are they still hoping for a Rick Perry or Chris Christie? Why only 3.2 million watched the debate on Monday, when ~ 8 million watched that silly “Bachelor” reality show?
And who cares what 2/3 of GOP voters think? Polls of all American voters are showing him to be a loser. And will fight to keep it that way. Gawd, I hate the media.
Exactly. And they KNOW America thinks he’s a loser which is why they are pining for a Perry or Christie to join their muppet show.
You are so right Proud of Obama, who cares what 2/3 of GOP voters think. These are the people who gave G.W. Bush eight years and we know what he did. I love to tell people that Clinton left Bush a surplus, Bush left Obama a darn mess. And Bush had eight years to cause this mess, but this President suppose to have Bush mess clean up in two and a half years. Doesn’t seem fair to me.
When people talk about where are the jobs? Go back and see how many jobs we were losing when Bush left the WH and Obama took over. No things are not were we want them to be, but they are better with no help from the Republicans.
I wonder about Tweety….seriously……..anybody saw him on Real time?…..Praising Bachman…..he said she was his hero and she would beat Romney.
he’s also been taking credit for having “discovered” her on his show. He’s a real idiot. He’s in love with any Johnny Come lately. He’s got no substance, longevity or loyalty.
I cannot believe this story praising PBO as a “national treasure” as a father is on Fox.com. Hell must be freezing.
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/06/19/obama-as-dad-national-treasure-and-role-model/
Crikey, that’s hilarious – I half assumed Juan Williams was being sarcastic!
Yes Chips, this is a great and timely article by Juan Williams. As our wonderful POB exhorts us by his example, keep looking for the good, and nourish it!
POTUS not “POB”
You are right, hell must be freezing over. That article was unbelievable coming from Williams, but no one can deny that our Prez is truly the Dad-in-Chief!
Juan Williams will be dismissed for praising the President even on this;wait and see 🙄
What a surprise. President Obama really is a national treasure, and I thank Juan Williams for emerging from the hell that is Fox News to declare that proudly. I know Juan emphasizes the President’s example to black fathers, but he really is an example for ALL fathers. He goes to parent-teacher conferences in the morning and then talks to world leaders in the afternoon. He coaches girls basketball on Saturday and then delivers international speeches or military orders on Sunday and Monday. He manages to arrange an ice-cream or jaunt to the bookstore with his girls, even knowing that he has to cordone off streets, and manage an ever present security detail and media blitz. He carves out a birthday weekend with a bunch of screaminng tweens, even while the world’s problems rest on his shoulders.
I’m sure there are plenty of Dads who are balancing relatively equal burdens – and to all of them, thanks!
I was so afraid of clicking on this link that I kept expecting some malicious spy or malware to immediately attack my computer when I finally did. Williams is something else, notice he couldn’t help giving Bush some credit in an article about PBO, something about PBO continuing Bush’s tradition of giving grants to faith communities or some such. Hm. I wonder how much Murdoch & Friends fined him for that article?
Happy Father’s Day!
Don’t worry about liars because their lies will consume them. Therefore they will be nonexistent.
Speaking of Father’s Day…which we all are…..I got a message from the President today, I’m sure many of you did; he is promoting this coming year as year of the father, to encourage all fathers to actively participat in their children’s lives, to live up to their responsibilities….Our pastor’s sermon today was wonderful. He spoke on what we all know of as the Prable of the Prodigal Son. But he said, it should be the Parable of The Loving Father. The Father’s actions are what is important, that he loved unconditionally. We should look at the father, not the younger or elder son. He was very eloquent, and really spoke to my heart. I saw my husband be exactly the kind of father our pastor is pleading for in our country, and the kind the President is pleading for.
