night everyone

There are some videos you can never post enough…..

****

I just saw a comment from Cindy about anti-President Obama (healthcare reform) ads appearing on this site. Because I run the site I can’t see any of this stuff, can you let me know what you’re all seeing – what ads are appearing, and where?

****

U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor throws out the ceremonial first pitch before a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

I love her!!!!

****
Thank you everyone for all the comments on today’s posts, the contrast between your decency and civility and the bile spewed by the professional left and teabaggers says it all – with any luck their hate will devour them.

****

See you tomorrow you crazy, lovely people 😉

“Our greatest triumphs are still to come!!”

I’m totally choked up at your video, Chipster. I just feel such tremendous joy revisiting that trip to Ireland and realizing the tremendous bond that was built on that day.

“May God bless the eternal friendship between our two great nations!!!!”

With all the other crap, like Reggie Brown, Dan Choi, the Republicans, some Dems, Jon Stewart, Maddow, the media, etc., etc.,it is so nice to see a video like this to end the evening. I don’t care how many time I see it ,it’s still special. Happy Father’s Day to a wonderful father, our President. And to all the other fathers out there I wish you the same.

Chipsticks, that Ireland video hit the spot. It is just beautiful and so touching – it could bring tears to the Blarney Stone. 🙂 Have a pleasant evening Chipsticks and TODers.

Hey there Chipsticks! About those ads… you might want to actually encourage your readers to close their eyes and click away. Any click-through gets charged to the sponsor. So why NOT run up the costs of the “enemy”? We did this on other blogs all through the last campaign with great enthusiasm. I believe some of the funds go to WordPress, too. So, just educate your readers periodically and don’t worry your wonderful head about them. 🙂

    • June 18, 2011 at 11:01 pm

Hiya CoyotiMarti, I’m displaying my ignorance/stupidity here (!), but where are the ads appearing?? I can’t see them! I know there’s a problem with ads on YouTube videos, but are ads actually appearing on the site?? Help!!!

I know enough to be dangerous. I have NOT seen any myself either embeded in your site or above it at the top margins. I believe you need to give permission to have them appear within your site. More likely, however, some people MAY be getting them through their OWN ISP (like Yahoo, etc. which occasionally garbages me up), depending also on what cookies they have allowed. Or they may see them when linking to articles you feature on other sites. Talk to your host (WordPress) and their business people can educate you on exactly how this all works. Even if you never choose to take advantage of advertising on your site, it’s something you should know about. Good hunting!

Hello, long-time lurker, love seeing the positive things about our president and first family.

My understanding about the ads is that they are based on the viewer’s (ex., me) browsing history. In other words, if I have been reading stories on how Republicans are trying to overthrow healthcare reform, I might see an ad from a group trying to overthrow healthcare reform. I have been following the situation in Wisconsin, so I routinely see anti-union ads, and ads supporting so-called “right-to-work” legislation.

So if you have arranged for ads to be on your site, you might not have control over the content. You may want to put a little disclaimer about the content so readers understand (if that is how advertising is set up on your site).

And I believe it is generally true that either you or the blog host site (WordPress?) can earn a bit every time the ad is clicked; the advertiser pays.

I personally don’t even “see” such ads any more, I am so used to them. I KNOW the sites I am on do not promote such views, nor are they choosing the ads.

        • June 19, 2011 at 10:31 am

Thanks for that information Nefer, I hadn’t a clue how the ads thing worked, so appreciated! I was checking this out this morning and there seems to be a way of stopping ads appearing on the site by paying for an upgrade – will look in to it later. Thanks again.

Chipsticks, those ads aren’t coming from your site. They’re coming from the viewer’s web browsers. Tracking cookies have cached their browsing histories so when they go to other sites that have anything remotely to do with where they’ve been before, they send sponsored targeted ads, that only appear to be on those sites but actually are attached to the browsers. Internet Explorer has the biggest problem with this, which is why I haven’t used it in years. I use Mozilla Firefox and I’ve never seen any ads when I come here.

The idea that clicking on those ads are “sticking it” to the enemy by driving up theirs costs, while a novel idea, it actually provides them with statistics that they use when they claim that have such “overwhelming support”. That’s just a little food for thought.

        • June 19, 2011 at 11:04 am

Hiya MrsJVD, thank you so much for the info! As I mentioned earlier, I can’t see any ads at all (I use Firefox too) so I was a bit alarmed when I heard others could. Then I saw that I can get an upgrade from WordPress that would stop ads on the site, which only confused me more – I still couldn’t figure out where the ads were coming from. So thank you for the info re browsers. I’ll look in to that upgrade to see if it would stop ads for everyone, regardless of what browser they use. Thanks again.

The first video which I’ve seen a dozen or so times still makes me chuckle. Love FLOTUS’ surprised look & POTUS’ playful smirk. Needless to say, our POTUS with his Zen temperament has a soothing and calming effect on babies and the world at large.

The 2nd video makes me beam with pride where PBO is greeted with “Welcome Home” banners and familial love.

Just wanted to say that the National Day of Action appears to have been a huge success based on several twitter posts. Fantastic news.

I love watching the Ireland videos. Our country should feel the same way about our President. Watching the clip of the baby the President brings a smile everytime I see it. Thank you Chipsticks for providing us such a great place to be. Good night.

yes, desertflower, he was respectful and even said that we were overreacting and that Reggie is being misrepresented by the media on both sides. He asked for our support! I hope Chipsticks posts it in the morning. If not, then I’ll copy n paste it.

Maybe that manager needs to watch the video for himself, and then come back and tell us we’re overreacting. He made remarks about the President’s mother – that’s enough for me.

          June 18, 2011 at 11:58 pm

Our support? Oh, then he IS delusional and could probably partake of some of those new ACA benefits. Mental health IS a covered benefit I presume.

And you have to ask what was “misrepresented”…..we all heard at least exerpts from his hateful, disrespectful ranting. Good luck with that. Can’t put that ugly genie back in the bottle.

You know, I am not as incensed at the totally bad taste of the comic (there are alot of them with bad taste and little sense out there) as I am that he was booked AND that they laughed. I am saving my amunition for the Repubs; that’s where it belongs IMHO.

Miles apart from the claptrap of the day, a video of the one-year anniversary of PBO’s inauguration, where FLOTUS greets every visitor to the White House:

See how gracious and sweet she is to everyone who passes through. She is a TRIUMPH.

But why does Justice Sotomayor have on a Cubs shirt?.???? She is a dyed-in-the-wool Yankees fan – what is going on here? I want a statement from Justice S’s office!

HI Chipsticks! thanks for all your inspiring work (I note that the march to 3 million hits is faster than that to 2 million). I use Chrome and never see any ads on your site. I haven’t blocked ads; they just don’t show up. They don’t show up on my iphone either. Thanks for your dedication, good spirit, and of course, for my favorite of all time, “Hey!”
