‘the professionally disgruntled’

BooMan: For the second straight year, I declined to attend the Netroots Nation conference. I’ve always enjoyed the conferences, but I don’t belong there anymore, and this is why (a link to the Huffy Post ‘Progressives ‘Break Up’ With Obama’ story).

Let me start with the DREAM Act. If immigration reform supporters are mobilizing against the president, they need to have their heads examined. Here’s a reminder (see BooMan’s post):

…..The president is not a magician. Working against his reelection is not going to help pass the DREAM Act or any other piece of positive immigration legislation.

Moving on to gay rights …. John Aravosis has been acting like he’s been betrayed since before the president took his oath of office. The president kept his promise to repeal the DADT policy, and it was anything but easy. Aravosis says that all he wants is what the president promised, but the president never said that he approves of gay marriage. Nonetheless, he has instructed the Department of Justice to no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court, he’s signed a Hate Crimes bill, and he’s expanded benefits for same-sex couples who work in the Foreign Service and executive branch.

……I’m sorry, John, but your own words condemn you …. he did the one thing that he actually has the power to do; he told the DOJ to stop defending the DOMA in court.

And then there is Jane Hamsher, who has made it her career to harass the president. The less said about her the better.

There’s a line between principled advocacy for the issues you care about and being a careerist champion of the disgruntled.

Upton Sinclair used to say, “”It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!” That’s what happened to a big part of the blogosphere.

I am surprised that msnbc ain’t covering the nutroots, with wall to wall coverage!
Also, liberal nutroots have been ufiltrated with a bunch of libertarians and green party purist freaks!
The OnLY thing they stand fir is getting rid if the president.
Sadly, this attitude goes into our msm and all of the pl. And it is not mainstream!

these folks are scum and I won’t apologize for saying that

    • June 17, 2011 at 7:55 am

      Hey Fred,
Those two you mentioned, don’t have to be there, they get a platform from corporate media anytime they want it.
Don’t you all think that the msm and GOP are trying to make the president hate the job? They ain’t effecting his poll numbers that much, so they go after his psyche!

Oh! I have one for you. Obama said when he was running that he would support the unions, so why isn’t he in Wisconsin fighting against Walker; good thing Michael Moore went.

Here is one from Ed Shultz. “The president said some days he feels like walking away and not running for reelection. What a defeatist attitude; what should the president’s supports think of that!”

These jerks! They want a loud mouth cowboy on the tube screaming issues. This president is working his butt off to get Congress to pass bills. Obama is not and will never be Weiner…they need to get over it and fast!

    • June 17, 2011 at 8:03 am

And wiener and kucinich never got any of there bills passed, but as long as the left feels better with all there sanctimonious complaints.
And Rachel is just a nutroots attack dog!

    • June 17, 2011 at 8:52 am

What should I think of that? sometimes I want him to take his family and run away from this country and let the crazies take over. Defeatist attitude? what president hasn’t felt like packing it in sometimes.?

Oh good for you,I have the same thought! I want him to enjoy his life and family. He is working for all the people including the fools that work against him.
For the first time in my life here is a president I want to protect. Some people make the dummest statements, statements having no basis in facts.
I replied to a person who was complaining that the President was wasting tax money for Air Force one ,and that he was a nothing.
I told her that all presidents have used tax money to fly Air Force One and as for being nothing ,He happened to be the President of The United States
When she responded you could tell she was out of control with anger,I imagined her actually spitting on her key board. Kinda made me feel good that I made her angry with simple facts.

Heard all the talk at Nutroots was about forming some movement outside the Dem Party. Yeah, that’s always worked out so well and will result in delivering all their hearts’ desires. Whatever attention the nutroots gets is too much. For the most part they are just a freaky friday tiny whiny insignificant bunch of misguided misfits over there somewhere.

      Morning Dotser!

They don’t have the discipline or the long term vision to form a third party. They also have such an aversion to authority figures I can’t imagine them falling in line behind one person, platform and strategy. bomb throwing and flailing around is what they know.

Ed Schultz has a big, ungoverned mouth. I understand what the president meant about not going after the job again….it’s not defeatist. It’s realistic, and shows his humanity, something we’re not used to seeing in our elected officials. Only a person with a psychological disorder would not admit that. It is a 24/7 job, that demands everything! As to Wisconsin….those people have handled their own situation very well. They’ve been grownups. I know the president has monitored that situation. He said that if he went, then it would be about him, and distract and weaken what they are doing. Ed needs to shut up. It was a relief to see Democrats standing for something and acting for themselves instead of expecting the president to come charging in like a knight on a white horse and save them. Too many democrats have been doing just that for the last 2 years!

Thank you for this post, I tried to watch Netroots on tv this morning. I had to turn it off such a misinformed group including the representative from Chicago blasting the President about not doing enough for the immigration problem. He should know better he is in congress, he must be mia or just spreading bad information on purpose.

We have our work cut out for us – reelect the President, get him the congressional support he needs democratic house and senate, find good replacements for the weak democratic senators and representative.

Luis Gutierrez is trying to make a name for himself off bashing President Obama!!! Gutierrez is a first class LOSER and a real ass who is hoping that if he can scream loud enough and bash President Obama hard enough, it wil deflect from the fact that Luis Gutierrez has never done or accomplished shit in all the time he’s been in congress and has no proposals or ideas about jack!!! So this loser plays this bash Obama game to hide his inadequacies and failures!!!

I posted this yesterday on another thread, and I only think two people read it because it was buried…… which might happen again, but I think it bears repeating until people GET IT.

An on-line friend of mine who runs a lefty blog, asked his readers what they’d like to see more of on his website. Here is what I said to him.

(POTTY MOUTH ALERT!!!! I get a little soccer-Tourette’s when I get really pissed off…..)

    *************

    Dear (xxxx) –

I’d like to see more articles and stuff about why it’s so important for everyone to get off their asses and VOTE in 2012. And not just for every progressive/liberal (NON-BlueDog®) Dem on every ballot across the country, but for Obama as well.

***AND TALK ABOUT THE ONGOING PROCESS OF THE GOP TRYING TO STOP PEOPLE FROM VOTING.

NO ONE is going to Primary Obama. NO ONE. Obama is our candidate. Anyone who thinks he’s as bad as anyone in the GOP hasn’t been paying attention to what’s been happening all over the country. They really don’t know about the union busting in WI (and the rest of the US), or the anti-birth control legislation in OK, or the fact we’ve got a chance of at least THREE Supreme Court nominations coming up in the next 5.5 years, or the fact the GOP is trying desperately to get rid of HCR, or to take away voting rights, or make the Bush tax cuts permanent…. the list is fucking endless. I’m glad Elizabeth Warren hasn’t taken any small planes….

Voting third party or a no vote for POTUS is no different than all the Nader voters in 2000. If anyone thinks there won’t be a fight like Bush v Gore in 2012 if the election isn’t a complete landslide, needs their head examined. And NO, no one gets a pass for not participating. Everyone who abstains is responsible. A viable third party without instant runoff elections is a fantasy, as much as some people might desire it, so stop chopping off you’re own head!

Yes, I KNOW many want Obama to be more of a fighter. But while wanting him to physically slap the shit out of every loser in DC might be very satisfying, it’s an infantile fantasy. Most Americans don’t want their POTUS to be the schoolyard bully that Bush Jr was….. but that’s neither here nor there.

Obama is still PARSECS better than any other candidate out there. The biggest problem is the dysfunctional congress WE, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, sent to work with Obama. It’s not Obama’s fault that there are such a bunch of fucktards in both the House & Senate who refuse to work with him, and an entire opposition party who’s only goal is to destroy him, even if that means destroying the country along with him…. THAT’S OUR FAULT FOR SENDING THEM THERE. WE MUST OWN THAT.

WE must OWN that there are pathetic BlueDogs™ who are bought and paid for whores. WE must OWN the fact we didn’t send enough progressives to the SENATE to get past the 60 Magical Vote requirement the GOP stuck to because THEY COULD. WE MUST OWN the fact that so many disgruntled spoiled baby Dems who were easily swayed by all the negative braying about Obama didn’t do XYZ…. and stayed at home and didn’t vote in 2010.

The Rolling Stone are absolutely correct: You can’t always get what you want. And you certainly can’t demand that ANY President work alone, or undo 50+ years of systematic deregulation and destruction of the Middle Class, and The New Deal, and the greatest transfer of wealth in our country’s history, over fucking night.

We’ve become a selfish ME society that demands instant gratification regarding ANYTHING, and we have memories of goldfish. Government change isn’t a sporting event. Obama has gotten a lot done in the face of AN EPIC, WELL FUNDED OPPOSITION, THAT COMPLETELY OWNS THE MEDIA in two and a half years including HCR, shooting the shit out of Somali Pirates, and taking out OSAMA BIN FUCKING LADEN.

It’s time to step up, and stand behind our POTUS, and FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THE GODS EVERYWHERE, STOP BELITTLING HIM AT EVERY TURN.

It’s time to single out who in both houses of Congress we want IN, and who we want OUT. NAME THEM. NAME THEIR REPLACEMENTS AND WHY….

It’s time to help, and stop hurting our own cause.

Every day you should be screaming about being held hostage by a minority who wants 60 Magical Votes in the Senate. And screaming about the ridiculous threat to not raise the debt ceiling, and trying to end Medicare etc – SCREAM ABOUT GETTING RID OF THE SS/MEDICARE CONTRIBUTION CAP SO EVERYONE PAYS THE SAME % INCLUDING THE SUPERRICH.

NAME the Dems who actually fight, and are trying to introduce jobs legislation, then NAME the GOPERS who refuse to allow those bills even to come to the floor……

Obama has gotten a mountain of shit done so far in the face of mind-boggling opposition. For that he needs to be called Superman! Just think how much more he could have done had he had the Magical 60+ votes in the Senate, and a supermajority in the house! If that had happened, everyone would be lining up to suck his dick instead of whining about how less than perfect he is.

Tally, I think your rant was one of the best I’ve read on this site. Please don’t apologize for standing up and speaking TRUTH!

I was a teenager ( just turned 15) when JFK was elected President. Basically, I have consciously lived under TEN presidents. While all Presidents had their share of critics – -other than LBJ during the escalation of the Vietnam war – -I know of no other president who has been as demonized by people who claim to be his base as President Obama has. What is even mind boggling is the fact that Obama’s record of achievements, in just two and half years, dwarfs any record of previous Democratic Presidents (and the GOP presidents, for that matter) since FDR! It is really quite apparent that the PL’s hatred of President Obama has absolutely nothing to do with any objective analysis of his record of accomplishments compared to the nine Presidents (in my conscious life time) that served before him.

So, Tally, I am glad to you fiercely spoke the TRUTH!

    • June 18, 2011 at 9:50 am

      Agree with you Tally
