ABC: With Father’s Day drawing near, the President opened up about what it was like to become a father for the first time, describing a scene that he says unfolded like the “the classic comical father situation.”
When his wife told him she believed it was time to go to the hospital, he said his reaction was “like out of a sitcom”. “You know, I jump up and I’m looking for the bag. And fumbling for the car keys … .” But, when he saw his daughter for the first time “it was love at first sight,” he said. He chuckled as he recalled being up with her at 2 a.m., “feeding her and burping her. And changing her diapers. And now she’s 5’10”.”
….”I could not ask for better kids. And so, I’m not anticipating complete mayhem for the next four, five years,” he said. He jokingly added: “I should also point out that I have men with guns that surround them often … ,” adding that that security was “a great incentive” for running for re-election.
Any potential future boyfriends might want to take note. “I might invite him over to the Oval Office,” Obama said of any boys who could be in the girls’ future, “ask him for his GPA. Find out what his intentions are, in terms of career.
He added: “Malia, Sasha, if you’re watching this, I’m just joking.”

This interview really made my day, had to watch it twice because I haven’t seen my President display that killer smile in a long time like that. It’s a keeper on my DVR.

You can tell he’s perfectly happy having two calm girls instead of two rambunctious boys! LOL, he looked exasperated just talking about his friend’s sons. LOL

I would love that too but alas medical reality suggests that this would be very risky at her age (46+). I think President Obama is perfectly happy with his daughters and seems to enjoy being the only male in the household!
That’s true. It’s risky and more difficult but not impossible. Kelly Preston recently had a healthy little boy at 48. If it’s meant to be, God will make it so. I do believe believe that Michelle does not wish to get pregnant a third time but we can’t help but imagine how sweet it would be for them.

Also, during the TJMS interview Biden mentioned how close his family was with PBO and he talked about how his grand daughter went to Camp David for Sasha’s bday- he had asked her if she was going to spend time with “Pop” (Biden) and she said no I’m going to be w/ Barack…I almost died laughing at the way he said it 😀

I do wish they would have a boy. I raised three sons, and they give me such joy. The Obama name needs to carry on.
I can relate. We have 3 great girls who were such fun growing up and who are all great gals now, all “growed up”. And I was reminded of those early days, finding my husband on the family room couch at 3:00 a.m., our new little one tucked in her daddy’s arms, fed and comforted, with some old dumb movie on the teevee keeping him awake until he could very carefully deposit her back into her crib. Those first few months—–a tough gig, but so fun and heartwarming to look back on now.
Ha ha—my dad used to tell me growing up, “Love you little, love you big, love you like a little pig”—-and I just wrote that in one of my daughter’s bday cards. Feel free to borrow this cute little piggy saying if you just love it—-:)
What is the guarantee that if they had another child it would be a boy???!!! I think, frankly, they are beyond the age of new babies. There is a reason we have children when we’re young….raising children takes a phenomenal amount of energy. A pregnancy at Michelle’s age would be considered high risk…..do we really want that for them? They have a lovely family, the girls are happy and well adjusted. Why do people think it’s okay to put him on the spot like that?
I agree with you Carolyn. If they were to try and God Bless them with a healthy baby girl, what next? Try again I think not. And it was a stupid question from Robin to ask if he wanted a boy? Do she have any kids?

What a great response to all the questions about fatherhood. He is really such a compassionate person, I’m sure he is a superb father. What lucky girls they are!! I also sensed just a slight wistful note about having a son but he is so very proud of his beautiful daughters and clearly enjoys them so much. I loved what he said about Maila and her emotional intelligence. Very, very sweet.
yeah. He really loves babies. You could tell from the interview that he wouldn’t mind a “surprise!!!!” He’d be so happy! Awwwwwwwww. Maybe when things settle down for them after his second term they’ll adopt.
ps- I’m almost tempted to pray for a “surprise” just for him. Ha! I’d love to see Miche’s expression when she discovers that surprise. hahahahhahahahahaha 😆 😆 😆

I love that PBO is always so appreciative and humbled by his role as father. He sets a great example for all dads out there. Personally, I will be looking forward to spending some time with my father this Sunday. Relationships with parents aren’t always easy, but I’ve come to learn that celebrating the good aspects of family is always important. We (as children) should appreciate our parents while they are here, and find our own unique ways to say “thank you” when we can.
The president seemed amused by the last question. He basically repeated what Michelle has said numerous times over the past few years, which is ‘probably not’ (while still leaving the window slightly cracked to the suggestion). I think that if he and FLOTUS did want another kid, either biologically or through adoption, they have a lot of resources that most middle-aged couples do not, not to mention good health and great temperament. At any rate, I’m sure they’ll make cute grandparents in the future.
You could see the love and pride in him when he talks of his family. I’m sure both he and grandma are the ‘easy’ ones.
I love seeing POTUS interact with his girls, he is a great father and you can tell that Malia and Sasha think the world of him. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY Mr. PRESIDENT.

Setting: the Oval Office. There are three secret service men lining the walls. On opposite sides of the president as he sits behind his desk are two trained snipers dressed in black with huge guns.
PBO, comfortably rocking back in his chair: “Son, what’s your name, IQ, GPA, Bloodtype and what kind of career will you be going into?”
Nervous boys, sweating like pigs on their way to the butcher: “Ahhhhhh, John Doe, 120, 4.0 ahm, Type A? Mr. President, as for a job, you can choose that for me.”
PBO: “that’s what I like son, a willingness to compromise.”
Ughhhhhh! I can’t wait! He’s gonna drive Sasha, Malia and Michelle CRAZY!!!!!! He’s gonna be staying up nights waiting for the girls to get back from their dates and he’s gonna be like: “Michelle, we should have had boys. I wouldn’t be having this much heartburn and ulcers it we’d just had boys. I’m gonna have the SS grab the girls and put them on a remote island where no boys can find them.”
Michelle is gonna be like: “No way, buddy. Not gonna happen. Stop pacing the mansion and get back to bed.”

I would like to wish all of our Dads who come here, HAPPY FATHERS DAY. Fatherhood is the most important job you will ever have, enjoy your day.
He will undoubtedly have grandsons eventually, and he will be a wonderful granddad. Being one of two girls of a father in a public position that question about having a boy can hurt. My sister and I sometimes had to stand by while people asked my folks, “Don’t you want a boy?” as if we were inadequate. Malia and Sasha are superb, and their family isn’t lacking in any way.
