51% …… in texas!

Politicususa: A new poll released by the non-profit non-partisan group Texas Lyceum found that President Obama is almost as popular as Gov. Rick Perry in the Lone Star State. The poll found that President Barack Obama’s 51% Texas approval rating is only 3 points behind that of Governor Rick Perry (54%).

…In 2008 McCain beat Obama by 10 points in Texas, but where the Obama campaign sees hope for 2012 is in the fact that the President got 63% of the Latino vote in 2008, and 1.5 million more Spanish speaking voters will be eligible to go to the polls in 2012.

As Politico reported, “The spike in voting-eligible Hispanics offers a tantalizing prospect for Democratic strategists who have yearned to flip Texas ever since John Judis and Ruy Teixeira published their landmark book, “The Emerging Democratic Majority,” which predicted just such a shift nine years ago.”

Republicans counter with the argument that five Hispanic Republicans were elected to the Texas House in 2010, and there is no evidence that Texas will be in play in 2012 …. A lot can change between now and next fall, but the long predicted bluing of Texas could take its next step towards becoming a reality in 2012.

When Merkel was here it sounded like she was working hard on this. It’s great to hear things may be getting better for the folks there and calming market jitters.

They called it a “trickle” but sounded better than that to me: outsourced jobs beginning to come back home as it no longer makes economic sense to move them overseas. Good news.

President Barack Obama’s 51% Texas approval rating is only 3 points behind that of Governor Rick Perry (54%). If PBO is at 51%, shouldn’t Perry be at 49%? 51% plus 54% equals 106%. I must be missing something here.

Perry is not universally popular in Texas. He might be able to garner Texas’ electoral votes if he runs, but Obama could I believe, beat any other Republican there. Perry is lazy, mean, spiteful, and my Texas born and bred daughter-in-law calls him an “ass.” That is her one word description of him. He talks out of both sides of his mouth. Texas is hugely dependent on the Federal Government. Think Fort Hood, Lackland Air Force Base, NASA. numerous other military installations. Whatever the right fringe might think of his secession statements, the majority do not want that. He does not have the work ethic to mount a genuine campaign. The governor’s office in Texas is what is called a “weak” office constitutionally. He actually has less to do than most other governors. That is why GWB was able to carry out the duties. We do NOT want another Texas governor. I think that is enough of a slogan: “No more Texas governors!”
