lies, lies, lies….

Steve Benen: If one were to create a drinking game in which viewers of last night’s debate took a shot every time a candidate lied, the “winner” would be in the hospital this morning with alcohol poisoning. The Republican candidates treated reality as an inconvenience to be brushed aside in the name of political expediency.

It’d take too long to note all of the falsehoods, though there were some clear gems. Tim Pawlenty claimed Medicare is insolvent (that’s plainly false); Ron Paul said Iraq and Afghanistan share a border (has he not heard of Iran?), and Rick Santorum said President’s Obama refusal to drill for oil is causing pain at the pump (oil production is actually up under Obama, not down).

But my favorite lie came from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who had this to say about the Affordable Care Act: “This is the symbol and the signature issue of President Obama during his entire tenure. And this is a job-killer, Sylvia. The CBO, the Congressional Budget Office has said that Obamacare will kill 800,000 jobs. What could the president be thinking by passing a bill like this, knowing full well it will kill 800,000 jobs?”

If Bachmann had any idea what she was talking about, it would make sense to question why the president would do such a thing. But Bachmann’s is either lying or she lacks the ability to understand the phrase “reduction of labor.”….

They deliberately lie all the time and we need to keep calling it what it is.

Off topic, but markets are way up, retail sales better than expected despite high gas prices.

Good news. I heard on my local radio news that gas prices were falling across the nation. I liked that yesterday President Obama’s economic advisors said that they will have to go around Congress to create jobs. Shame that they have to do that but such are the times we live in.

I guess last night’s “debate” can be summed up as “blah blah blah Obama sucks, blah blah blah big government, blah blah blah one term President, blah blah blah.”

I didn’t bother watching, but reading the comments from those who did, looks like I didn’t miss a thing. All it was essentially was a bash Obamathon, none of these clowns discussed their plans because they don’t have any. They’re hoping that enough folks will buy into their lies and put them into the White House, well it won’t happen. None of them are on POTUS intellectual level and will have the amount of appeal that he does.

I’ve only caught a few seconds of this “debate” in video clips and read some of the coverage but, wow, what a bunch of lies and demagoguery, completely unchallenged. Is this what our country’s political process has become? A bunch of bold-faced lies in the name of divisiveness and in service of personal ambition? What an ugly travesty our political process has become. We deserve so much better. Who will get out the truth besides Steven Benen? Will the talking heads on teevee just let all this slide? Yeah, I thought so.

“A bunch of bold-faced lies in the name of divisiveness and in service of personal ambition”. You said it so very well. It is exactly what is being done!

What a difference it would make if people like Steve Benen would have a voice in the MSM! Oh wait, that couldn’t happen because he would just reveal them all as the hacks that they are. At any rate I love this comment under Steve’s article:

“as for the number of lies spewed out last night, remember this is the Republican nomination. The candidates are not running to solve government problems. Every single one of them is up there promising that they have the mojo to defeat Barack Obama!

The only issue that matters to the Republicans is which candidate can bring the tools that will win back the Presidency from the Black Democrat. That most of those tools are lies doesn’t really matter to the voters in the Republican primaries. What matters is which lie will work with enough voters to give them back the White House.

They are fighting to roll back modernization, not to solve problems for the nation. They see modernization as The Problem and they have personified the source of the problem (civil rights, high taxes, diversity, gay rights, woman’s rights, Islamic Terrorism, abortion, secularism, etc.) as being the result of a black Democrat who occupies the Office of the Presidency.

Just like removing Saddam Hussein was going to solve the Middle East problems, removing Barack Obama will now solve the problems of modernization they face. Conservatives are by their nature not abstract thinkers. They personify problems into an evil enemy who must be defeated for good to return.

as long as they have an enemy to fight they have a reason to band together into groups to carry on the battle. It is membership in those groups that give their life meaning. Abstract ideas like government policy and such are not important to them”.

That really chrystalizes what they are all about, doesn’t it?

I’ve been searching for a video of the President’s meeting with the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness and I can’t find one. DRAT. But here’s a website they’ve set up so we should be able to follow their work:

Chipsticks, please create a special entry for an article that Rhandi Rhodes read yesterday that really breaks down what the Republican Party is up to. The article is by Robert Parry “The GOP’s CIA Playbook to Destabilize the Country to sweep back into Power”. You can locate it on Alternet. This is Michele ..

What a bunch of idiots, liars etc. Can you seriously picture any of these crazies representing America/and the world as our Potus? Makes you wonder what anyone considering voting for any of these liars is smoking.

We know that the Republican candidates, all of them, told lies about the President, but why didn’t the media , and especially the moderator, not openly call them out for their lies? The trouble is that low information viewers think that what the candidates said were nothing but truth, so help them god. The MSM stenographers are destroying American democracy!
