May 2008
Monday: President Obama begins a two-day trip by visiting North Carolina. He’ll meet in Durham with members of his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness at the headquarters of Cree, a company that makes energy-efficient LED lighting.
From North Carolina, the President heads to Miami for the night, where he’ll speak at a couple of fundraisers.
Tuesday: On Tuesday morning the President travels to Puerto Rico, where locals want to talk to the president about their status as a territory. Residents of Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens, but they are not allowed to vote for president.
The First Lady is on the road next week too. In California she’ll do events in support of military families and DNC fundraisers.

The media must be really afraid of Obama’s relative advantage over the GOP when it comes to Latinos. So far the majority of media reports on PBO’s visit to Puerto Rico are slanted negatively. I’m going to use a USA article (which I will not link here) as just one example.
1. First, by the article insinuates that it’s all about his re-election bid on 2012, and nothing else.
2. Second, they recount that 60% of Puerto Ricans voted for Gore in 2000 but no enough to help him win, and that the Puerto Rican vote went to Clinton in the Dem primaries, but glaringly omitting the fact that the PuertoRican vote went to Obama in the general elections.
3. Thirdly, it attempts to praise Republicans like Jeb Bush & Mel Martinez for their “personal appeals” to community – as if President Obama doesn’t yet know how to personally appeal to his constituents.
4. Fourthly, it wanders into a discussion about Mexican Americans’ dissatisfaction with the President re the DREAM Act, etc (Absolutely ZERO mention of the Republicans in congress and their complete and utter disrespect for Latino immigrants and voters in general).
5. Finally, it appears to allow a number of paid GOP operatives to post nasty remarks in the comments section – some of which are completely unrelated to the subject matter at hand , e.g., “Obama is highly paid prostitute.” Not a single pro-Obama or neutral comment following this article – and on that note methinks these online newspapers comments sections need to be investigated. Because they do not represent the voters’ opinions. They are politically driven, hateful and one-sided. They are attempts at manipulating opinion by fomenting personal hatred and disdain for the US President instead of intelligent discussions about issues which really matter to voters. They are most likely sponsored by the likes of the Koch brothers.
And I might add, that while the article admits that President Obama promised when he visited the Island in 2008 that he would make a return visit to Puerto Rico if he became President, it fails to frame this as yet another promised kept. Instead it uses the cynical ploy of generating feelings of distrust among readers by speculating that Obama cares more about the Puerto Ricans in the US who are able to vote than those living in Puerto Rico who cannot vote.
I’m not going to read the article, but I’d be willing to bet a lot of money that they didn’t mention the President’s Task Force on Puerto Rico.
Hi Hopefruit2,
You have identified a problem that is huge with repect to the manipulation of online comment sections. I noticed this problem leading up to the ’08 election. The use of paid online republican commenters is a huge problem. Online supporters of the Democratic Party and of the President are routinely discouraged by the virulent comments appearing at many “so-called progressive” online sites. Before Chipsticks established a home for people like us, I was constantly caught in arguments with these paid commenters. I always tell friends that this is another device the republicans use to try to suppress President Obama’s support. Now that we are really entering the lead-up to the 2012 campaign, we must understand this trick by the ones who will do any, and everything, to defeat our President. This 2012 campaign will probably be the nastiest, most divisive, and racially charged campaign we have had in our life-times. We cannot allow the tactics the other side will use to discourage our support, and the amount of hard work we must do to reelect our President, and to get the Democrats in control of both houses in congress–the House of Representatives and the Senate.
I AGREE TOTALLY….WE HAVE ALL HAD OUR SHARE IN THE PAST OF THE TROLL RUMBLES. THEY’LL BE ‘THICK’ ON BARACKOBAMA.COM! AND INDEED…IT’S GOING TO GET NASTY…BUT, I DON’T WORRY ABOUT THAT….THE PREZ. IS ON THE HIGH ROAD…THE REST ARE ON QUICKSAND!
I know exactly what you mean Hopefruit2. I sometimes read the Yahoo front pages, for example yesterday they President Obama for the economy, job loss, I try not to read the comments, they are disgusting and just make you sick….So yesterday, I kept posting a long comment about how the republicans are holding the american people hostage by not creating jobs with stimulus funds that haven’t been used….I kept posting and posting the same message over and over, I kid you not, in less than 15 minutes, that article was no longer there. Sometimes when you push back and present facts right on yahoo first page, it doesn’t matter if i get nasty comments…at least the facts are there to be seen by millions.
Has anyone heard about this???
Here’s some info. I was able to find out about Van Jones announcement…(Don’t want to lin HP here)
The former Obama adviser, who said he has spoken to more than 30,000 Americans on college campuses, in churches and in union halls since his exile from the White House, hinted at proverbial fireworks. But the real impact, he predicted, would be what originates from the event.
“I think people will be really surprised by what gets announced on the 23rd and the aggressive campaign that will come out of it,” Jones said, in an interview with The Huffington Post. “There will be a presence in every campaign district in the country … The idea is to help give a megaphone to this silent majority.”
“We will be speaking to the main issue that America is not broke,” he added. “The pie gets bigger every year — it is just that the middle class’s slices get smaller and smaller.”
I like Van Jones but I would keep quiet as far as election campaign maneuvering so that the opposition doesn’t figure things out ahead of time.Just saying …
Chipsticks don’t forget PBO is going to be interviewed by Ann Curry of the Today show. I really Hope and Pray she doesn’t ask him about Weiner’s Package and scandals because he wants to talk about the economy and Weiners Pickle will be the leading story of the interview. Now he was tweeting a 17 year old, its getting worse for him.
you know Curry won’t be able to resist Me;it’s a sickness for these loons of the so-called “liberal” media. The President is brilliant and will probably tell her that he wishes Mrs Weiner well ;won’t say more and my guess(I hope at least) will shut her trap up.
GS from GMA did ask Tapper if the President was “work any which way for or against Weiner behind the scenes” and Tapper said NO way.The President has nothing to do with this ish and won’t get involved at all
DWS just said that Weiner must go! OOOPS!
What the 23rd will have in store, beyond the headliners, is still something of mystery. Jones, for his part, said he would be on stage with The Roots. “I got about two weeks to get our dance moves together.”
Are we ready to dance??…..Hope is a concert/protest all around the country 🙂
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/165867-homeland-security-partners-with-jewish-organizations
DHS partners with the Jewish community for security purposes!
But, but, but the msm said that Obama hates the Jews and…
I GUESS MSM CONVENIENTLY FORGETS THAT OUR AWESOME PRESIDENT HAS SEVERAL JEWISH INDIVIDUALS WORKING HIS ADMIN. IN THE WHITE HOUSE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND….THE PRESIDENT CELEBRATES ALL JEWISH HOLIDAYS AS WELL. FRANKLY…THERE IS NOONE THIS PRESIDENT HATES…HE TRIES TO FIND THE GOOD IN EVERYONE…HAS SO MUCH PATIENCE. HOWEVER…IF SOMEONE CONTINUES TO TURN THE WRENCH….LOOK OUT! THE ‘O’ IS COMIN!’
And the week after that (June 21-26), Michelle, Malia, Sasha and Marian go to South Africa and Botswana. I can’t wait to hear the stories and see the pictures from that!
Be prepared for the haters and their ugly comments. With the way the economy is why is she going on vacation? That’s going to be the example of the bull you will hear. And the anti-Obama media will join right in with them. But I hope the Obama women have a safe enjoyable trip. I wish the girls could meet Nelson Mandela, but he is sick I hear.
IF IT’S POSSIBLE TO VISIT HIM…MICHELLE WON’T MISS THAT OPPORTUNITY. I KNOW IF I EVER WENT TO AFRICA….IT WOULD BE A ONE-WAY TICKET…I’D NEVER COME BACK. TOO MUCH NEED OVER THERE…THEY NEED SO MUCH HELP AND LOTS OF LOVE!

Streetcar named after ray lahood!
The Associated Press June 8, 2011, 1:37PM ET text size: TTNew streetcar line groundbreaking in New Orleans
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials have broken ground for a new streetcar line. It is expected to begin service in about a year, running from the bus and rail station through the Central Business District to Canal Street.
The project got $45 million in stimulus money last year.
LaHood said Tuesday that the Federal Transit Administration also is giving the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority $400,000 to establish a program to help hire and train skilled maintenance workers for streetcars.
He says the RTA will work with Delgado Community College to ensure that unemployed and underemployed residents have a chance to get jobs created by the stimulus grant.
I really like Ray Lahood, working hard and always having the President’s back…you would think he’s a Democrat …lol
Great news indeed Jovie……
I’D CALL IT ‘LAHOOD’S LIMO’….LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL….PROBABLY A GOOD REASON WHY I’M NOT WRITING FOR THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!! MY HUMOR GETS THE BEST OF ME…PLUS I’D KICK THE REPUGS. Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, one of the al Qaeda terrorists who masterminded the 1998 bombing of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, was killed in Somalia, according to a spokesman for the Somali government.
The spokesman “said Saturday that officials have concluded that a man security forces killed on Tuesday was” Fazul, the Associated Press reported. Fazul had a $5 million bounty on his head. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commented on the news later Saturday. In a statement, she called the development a “significant blow to al-Qaida, its extremist allies and its operations in East Africa.”
AP-
A new Public Policy Polling survey in Massachusetts finds Gov. Deval Patrick (D) bouncing back from horrible approval numbers last year. In January 2010, Patrick has a 22% to 59% approval rating; Today, it’s nearly reversed at 54% to 36%.
Key takeaway: “That’s a 55 point climb in Patrick’s net approval over the last 17 months and he’s the only politician who’s ever seen that kind of resurrection in his image during the time we’ve been polling on a national basis.”

LOL! I walked right into that one didn’t I.
THAT’S THINKKKK….FINGER BOO-BOO HERE!
I’m kinda confused. Why can Puerto Ricans (in Puerto Rico) vote in a primary, but not for Presidnent?? I distinctly remember both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama campaigning in PR. What’s up with that?
Because they are not a state and just a territory!
