Today:

4:0 The first family departs the White House en route Camp David

****

GOPolitico: The National Education Association’s executive director, John Wilson, said he’s prepared to invest resources and manpower to reelect President Obama … The 3.2 million-member organization has affiliate organizations in every state, and Wilson said it is prepared to spend at least $60 million to reelect Obama.

“Quite frankly, we don’t have the money the Koch brothers have, but one thing we do have is, we have boots on the ground,” Wilson said …. he sees fights between state governors like Wisconsin’s Scott Walker and Ohio’s John Kasich as opportunities for the group to reach its more than 1 million Republican members with the reelection message.

The budget debate in Washington, which the Obama administration has sought to frame starkly in terms of education investments instead of deep education cuts, has sharpened the contrast between Obama and his potential opponents, Wilson said.

“A lot of them in Ohio are saying that ‘the Republican Party has left me,’ ” Wilson said. “We think we’ll be able to move a lot of our members no matter what their party affiliation to understand that there is no better person for our issues – particularly for labor and civil rights – than this president.”….

TTNews: Daimler Trucks North America said it plans to sharply increase production and hire about 1,400 new workers at three truck plants, to meet higher demand …. the company will increase production at its Mt. Holly, N.C. and Portland, Ore., truck manufacturing plants in the last half of 2011.

….Daimler said it plans to add more than 1,230 employees to its manufacturing and administrative payroll at the three locations to accommodate rising customer demand, and will add about 120 shop and staff employees at its Gastonia, N.C., parts plant.

Company officials said the plans were in addition to the more than 1,300 positions filled in the at its truck and parts facilities in the first half of this year.

…Company officials said employment at its Cleveland, N.C., truck plant expanded significantly last year and jumped again in May, as part of the 1,300 position expansion DTNA announced earlier this year.

Thanks Jovie 😉

Amen on both counts! Happy B-day Sasha-kins!!!!!! 😆 and of course the repugs wants us to devolve into a caste system where they are the haves and we are the haves not. The funny thing is that they don’t even try to pretend that they are out to destroy this country. Brazen hussies 😡

lisa, you are absolutely right, the republicans “don’t try to pretend that they are out to destroy this country”…but what gets me is that folks still vote for them! All of those repubs said what they were going to do when they got into office (2010) but people voted for them and now they are surprised and upset about what is going on.

Yes, the GOP is very afraid of Debbie Wasserman Shultz. She is no Tim Kaine, that much is obvious!

I told them over there at Republican Politico that I thought there was nothing wrong with Debbie. I like her. And I told them maybe they need to take a look at the RNC chairman, how he is calling for Rep. Weiner to step down, but he had nothing to say when the former Senator John Ensign got caught in his mess. How about Republican Senator caught with a hooker.

Happy Friday Obama family. If you don’t know, I am a fan of Randy Rhodes; I listen to her most days and find her well read and informative; but for the last few days it’s been hard to listen due to her stanch support for Rep. Weiner. She believes those who chastise Mr. Weiner are supporting Breitbart and the republican hate machine; this could be farther from the truth and I take offence! Her argument hinges on the other sex scandals that got ignored where the offender is still in office. This argument has a point, but the republicans who broke the law or shamed themselves are not of my party. I have no vested interest in Vitter or any other republican but I care what men of my party do and how we handle such problems. I was angry at Clinton for his shameless behavior and when I voted for him a second time it wasn’t because I supported or dismissed his actions, it was because I was angry at the republicans for the four years of harassment via Ken Star. Clinton needed punishment even though I didn’t believe impeachment was the answer. And just because people still love Bill and think he is the “man” my feelings about him are unchanged…I never saw humility in the man, not then or now.

If you really care about someone you should have the courage to tell that friend the truth. Mr. Weiner needs to listen to those who care about his well being because he is troubled. I am not buying the argument at “everybody is doing it” or as Randy says, “this is what men do”. Mr. Weiner has lost his credibility as a progressive spokesman. In addition, I worry this investigation and bickering between those who what him to resign or stay will side rail work that the Congress needs to be doing. And I sure don’t want president Obama sullied by any of the mud that will fly. You know a White House press person asked what the president’s opinion was on the Weiner issue. Mr. Weiner spoke to the president several days before his big confession.

    • 46 hopefruit2
      June 10, 2011 at 10:10 am

For all you know, President Obama was the one who probably advised him to come clean.

    • 47 Fred
      June 10, 2011 at 10:17 am

GS asked JTapper that very question as to whether or not the President was doing anything about Weiner and I was so happy to hear that whomever asked that stupid question got a forceful pushback saying that the President was NOT doing anything in any which way when it came down to Weiner and I was most happy when I heard Tapper say that the White House folks were gonna make extra sure that the President has nothing to do with Weiner

    • June 10, 2011 at 10:31 am

I read on the FrumForum that Weiner also lied to President Obama about what happened. Frum said they spoke on the phone and Weiner aggressively denied that he sent the picture.

    • 49 PoliticalJunkessa
      June 10, 2011 at 10:35 am

WTF? My Prez doesn’t have time to deal with a chihuaha like Weiner! Weiner’s been running his yapper for years now — deal with it, Weenie 👿 !!!

    • June 10, 2011 at 10:42 am

This post from TNC sealed it for me on Weiner: http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/06/a-steward-of-our-interests-cont/240229/

And this comment in the same thread is brilliant, at least to me. I hadn’t seen anyone put it this way:

He’s a congressman. It’s his job to get things done in government for people who need things done. Is the VA screwing you over on benefits? Call your congressman. Are you having trouble with your student loan servicer? Call your congressman. Etc.

There’s a problem here if your congressman thinks he’s allowed to proposition any attractive woman who contacts him, that’s a problem. It’s a problem directly analogous to the creepy boss problem.

Wiener isn’t Ms. Cordoba’s representative. But the way his “consensual” dalliances started shows a pattern: Wiener gets contacted by a female, he friends said female and sends banter that progresses into sexual banter. If that’s his pattern, what female constituent would feel totally comfortable contacting him? It just isn’t right for half his constituents to think they might have to exchange sexting for getting him to take seriously their problems with government agencies.

        June 10, 2011 at 10:46 am

It’s also sickening to think that he’s pretty much ended the careers of all those who worked in high level legislative jobs in his office.

I LOVE THIS MAN!! For his intelligence, for his presence, for his compassion, for his sense of humor. He was so cool, knowing that he just goofed up the spelling of the word, at the end of the video. Just the tone of his voice, when he learned what it meant. And how cool that he brought leading scientists to the Oval Office. That none of them were female, or people of color is telling, but I’m still proud that he has respect for KNOWLEDGE!! for SCIENCE!! for EDUCATION!!

And shout out to Pennsylvania!! The spelling bee champion, Miss Sukanya Roy, 14, is from my state. How proud her parents must be!!

Morning everyone! I wouldn’t worry about the scientists not being women or people of color – if you watch any of the science competitions that they’ve featured on the White house web site, you’ll see that most of the math competitions are people of minority origins, and there are plenty of girls featured at the science competitions (and the President usually says something encouraging about seeing girls interested in science). The next generation will be for girls and minorities in science – particularly since the GOP hates science, and is cutting out education funding. The danger is that many of the top scientists will have to be imported into the country, because there won’t be any kids growing up in the country with strong scientific educations.

    Good Afternoon TOD family

Love the posts today. i wish Sasha a delightful year. I agree with those who mentioned the creepy factor in the Weiner mess. It is not an issue between spouses, he brought his behavior and other stuff into the public forum. He is a disgrace. He should have had the courage to get off the stage and stop harming the party. I want trolling predator out of public life, does not matter which party. I expect republican nowadays to be loathsome or racist or both but it really hurts when it is a dem.
