‘democratic party affiliation advantage increases in may’

Gallup: In May, 45% of Americans identified as Democrats or said they were independent but leaned Democratic, compared with 39% who identified as Republicans or leaned Republican. The six-percentage-point Democratic advantage represents a slight increase from the four-point advantage Gallup measured in April, which matches the 2011 average to date.

….the current six-point Democratic edge is the largest measured in Gallup Daily tracking since October 2009, when the gap was seven points … the recent increase coincides with Americans’ more positive evaluations of President Obama, who averaged 50% job approval in May, compared with 44% in April.

Now, if only that 45% could stand solidly behind President Obama, this could be a wipe-out.

10 Years Later, How Bush-Era Tax Cuts Changed America [CHARTS]

A decade has now passed since the Bush-era tax cuts were signed into law, and the topic remains as divisive as ever.

To mark the ten-year anniversary of the tax cuts, extended last year for both upper- and middle-class Americans in a deal to reauthorize unemployment insurance, the non-partisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities published five graphs illustrating how the cuts have changed America, and will continue to do so in the future.

David Axelrod Tells Tim Pawlenty What He Can Google

WASHINGTON — The assumption that President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign will be felled by poor economic news is partially premised on the idea that the Republican alternative can offer something both fundamentally different and alluring. So while the president’s reelection team is a bit away from running on all cylinders, top officials have been scheming to frame the top-tiered Republican candidates as compromised on matters like jobs and recovery.

Hi Pamela, WordPress remains a mystery to me, but as far I know you have to be logged in it for the blog to recognise you as a returning ‘visitor’ – that way your comments will appear automatically. If you’re not logged in, it will just take it that you’re a first time visitor, so your comments will be held in ‘pending’. I think!

Testing…testing….I clicked on “wordpress log in” and nothing happened. If I continue to be identified as “anonymous”, I’ll just have to add my username to my posts. WordPress is a mystery. I was on vacation for about 2 weeks and I also had problems posting at “Think Progress”.

This is the argument I’ve been hoping the campaign will start to tell – that the President is only in trouble in terms of the economy (and any other major issue that they decide is the cross to bear) IF, and only if, the Republicans have a better plan to offer. So far, they’ve offered nothing but nonsense, and reversed their positions so many times – it’s hard to figure out what they stand for. Plus, we’ve got on record the Republicans voting against their very own proposals. If 45% of the people are already Democrats, then that only leaves us with 6% to find who are still able to think rationally and see the truth. That’s entirely doable.

Military Spouse Of The Year Shares Her Hardships, Charitable Plans

Depression is ugly. It can defeat a person. It does not discriminate based on color or creed, sex or religion. It either kills you or makes you stronger. In my case, it didn’t kill me. Some days I want to scream, “You didn’t get me, you ugly selfish disease,” — rather you led me to the highest point of my life.

As the Military Spouse Magazine 2011 Military Spouse of the Year, it’s now my mission to help other service member’s loved ones see the opportunities available to them. This is my story.

IF YOU ARE A SENIOR CITIZEN, YOU “MUST’ VOTE DEMOCRATIC IN 2012:

The Republicans came after your Medicare and now they want your Social Security too. The only way to insure that you won’t lose either is to vote Democratic in all future elections. Republican’s used to be much more subtle about how they want to throw seniors into the private market to go head to head with health insurers and Wall Street, but lately the new leaders of the GOP apparently have no idea what they are getting into. When the Bush Administration flirted with it in 2005, they learned very quickly that it was a bad idea. But the new GOP feels so empowered that they think they can just come right out in the open with their stupid ideas. As a Democrat, I want to thank them.
    .
    .
I don’t see any adults in the leadership of the Republican Party so I anticipate even more boneheaded moves in the next year and a half leading up to the next election. I don’t even think the complicate media can help spin them out of some these messes they’ve created. It will take a lot of distractions to keep people from seeing what is going on and the difference between the 2010 race and 2012 is that President Obama is in this race, with his bully pulpit, his 75% personal popularity and his unmatched ability to deliver a message in a clear and concise way. The only thing the Republicans have in their arsenal is their appeal to racists. And with the president at 75% personal approval, their clearly aren’t enough racists to put them over the top. It should be a fun ride to November 6, 2012.
