ouch

The Guardian: Sarah Palin wants to show to the Republican right that she is the true keeper of the Ronald Reagan flame by meeting the late president’s closest ally on the world stage. A meeting with Margaret Thatcher in the centenary year of Reagan’s birth would be the perfect way of launching her bid for the Republican nomination for the 2012 US presidential election.

This is what Palin told Christina Lamb in the Sunday Times: “I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her.”

It appears that the former prime minister has no intention of meeting the darling of the Tea Party movement … This is what one ally tells me:

Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts.”

More here

Thank you Meta!

It should be said, Thatcher was/is nuts too, so there might have been a meeting of minds 😕

***

I did it again, I visited Teabagger-land to see their reaction to this, seeing as they adore Thatcher almost as much as the half-termer. I loved this response from someone who reckoned it was all explained by Britain’s moral ‘decline’:

Yes, the British have chosen to live under “shiria” law and “whorship” gay people.

Is it wrong to say I love this quote: “Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts.” 😀

“It should be said, Thatcher was/is nuts too, so there might have been a meeting of minds.” Exactly! Which is why I’m not paying this story any mind. Furthermore, some “ally” might be talking out of school.

    • June 7, 2011 at 3:26 pm

But Hachikō, Thatcher was only a nut to decent, sane people! For Palin supporters – and similar types – she remains a Goddess, so this story is infuriating for them …. which is why I love it 😉

Why was Thatcher nuts? I have always admired her because she appeared to be a determined and focused one. I don’t want a complete history lesson, but I am interested in knowing others thoughts, please and thank you! LOL……

Hiya DC, I have to admit – and I know hate is a bad thing – but in my lifetime I’ve never hated a political leader more than Thatcher. A vile, vicious nasty piece of work, an ugly right wing idealogue. She smashed the unions, destroyed the mining industry, destroyed the education system (for those who couldn’t afford an education), she tried to destroy the National Health Service, her policies resulted in soaring unemployment, she started a pointless war with Argentina (that, needless to say, cost hundreds of lives), she declared “there’s no such thing as society” – Britain to her was an economy, nothing more than that. She despised the working class. There’s so much more ….. She was a cold, hate-filled low-life, I friggin’ despised her. I need a lie down. 🙂

You’re not alone in your hatred, Chipsticks. She’s vile. However, she’s not really a political leader – she’s just a TMZ celebrity.

Sorry – I thought you were talking about palin at first (and hit “send” too early, but I think your emotion is appropriate for Thatcher, too. She caused a lot of damage in her time, and the fact that palin considers her an idol, reinforces her vileness.

            • June 7, 2011 at 5:13 pm

Sorry Theo, I should have made my rant clearer – I was talking about Thatcher, not the half-termer! Sorry!

Hmmmm….thanks for your thoughts Chips, I hope the question did not raise your blood pressure too much. I wonder do women in positions of power try to overcompensate because of sexism, trying to be excessively stern and emotionless. Not referencing Thatcher, just women in general

            • June 7, 2011 at 10:01 pm

I’ve calmed down now DC! There’s no doubt, when you look at her record, Thatcher had nothing but contempt for her female colleagues, she just had no time for them. I’d guess that was all part of her effort to prove that she was as tough as the ‘guys’, although I think it came naturally to her – she genuinely seemed to loathe women, including her mother. I’d love to believe that’s old school crap, but I’m not too sure – there are still plenty of female politicians (mainly on the right) who think an antipathy to women and their issues is the way forward for their pathetic political careers. It would make you despair.

I could not agree more. Members of my family were miners. She was the biggest bitch of all time. When I first came here some people expected me to be all happy about the UK having a woman leader. She was never a woman. Just a walking bag of hate in a skirt. There is not enough venom in the world to express how I feel about Margaret Thatcher.

            • June 7, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I’m with ya WoS, the only thing I give her ‘credit’ for is that she awakened me to politics – I was in my teens when she took power, and didn’t care about anything but myself. She made me realise that far-right politics was pure and utter evil, whatever country it raised its ugly head in. She will always, for me, be the epitome of evil.

Yeah. She’s the standard by which I measure evil. However, this put-down of Sarah Palin is the first time I’ve agreed with her in over 30 years. She also made me a life-long Democrat – even before I got here. Like you, she shaped my thinking by demonstrating what not to be. It’s hard to explain those years to anyone who didn’t live through it.

Her friend and fellow grifter, Franklin, Graham, has activities there. She is probably going with him. She certainly could not travel without someone leading her.

What in the world has become of Franklin Graham?! The apple seems to not only have fallen far from the tree but not even in the same orchard. For shame….
It’s amazing how so many people seem to abhor Obama and at the root of their scathing, unwarranted, and baseless criticisms is jealously. Some people are accustomed to having the ear of the president, some people even feel entitled to it (Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Franklin Graham, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Oscar de la Renta), some people want a deferential president, PBO is respectful and humble but he does not gravel and he does not placate to egos-people in turn for their slighted feelings and their indignation for feeling excluded go on lifetime rants
You don’t have to gravel and be excessively deferential when you work hard

That’s what I’m wondering. Probably trying to get in on some deals. Will she find it on a map? And how much will taxpayers have to pay to keep her safe while she’s there, where she is not wanted and will do no good. There should be a law that prevents troublemakers (i.e. Republicans) from visiting troubled countries and causing more harm.

Last Friday, just a week after the launch of Let’s Move! in Indian Country, First Lady Mrs. Obama and American Indian kids spent the afternoon in the White House kitchen garden planting the “three sisters” crops (corns, beans, and squash). The kids also helped Mrs. Obama harvest crops in the garden, including lettuces, rhubarb, chard, kohlrabi, sugar snap peas, turnips, broccoli and herbs – some of which will be used in Tuesday’s State Dinner in honor of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

This nonsense has to stop. Pres. Obama and Special Envoy Scott Gratian do all the heavy lifting on finally resolving part of the Sudanese crisis (Darfur still unresolved, but not as explosive as before), and just when Southern Sudan is poised to gain its independence officially in July, Palin shows up to hog the spotlight from the two countries that are still a trigger away from sinking back into civil war over the oil-rich town of Abiye. All the destructive American evangelical groups are just swooping in to ply their stock in trade — homophobia, Islamophobia, and rank greed. it is SICK SICK SICK!!!

This whole nonsense has C-Street cynical maneuvering written all over it. the continent of Africa, and especially war zones are sick and tired of Fundamentalist christian meddling in our affairs. Stay the HELL AWAY from Africa, Grifter Palin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sick of these people trying to speak for God. Scripture states that ,”Do not mock God. Does she even read what she says that she believes in. Tis woman needs to go so place and leave us alone. I am tired of her hateful, mean spirit in our country. She is an attention grabber. Shame on SP.

Very good point. Thousands of Fundies are also all over Central America pushing a right wing agenda and literal bible interpretation in return for subsistance food and limited health care while they are living in gated communities away from the slums. They are financed by donations from mega church members in the US and take a good amount off the top. This entire movement is little understood and needs to be known.

I see the teabaggers have been reading the DM -‘ sharia law and worshipping gays’ indeed. I see comedy season in London will start in July. Hope she gets invited to some political shows like Newsnight, Question time etc. The big question is – will she accept?
I’m not sure which lady is/was more dangerous – the educated or semi-illiterate one. I have to give it to Maggie tho, health reasons aside there is no way she was meeting this failure.
