ah, facts….

Steve Benen: ….Mitt Romney continues to argue that President Obama inherited an economic mess, but made matters “worse”. When that was fact-checked, and proven false, Romney said it again. I’m curious about how Republicans explain what transpired in 2009, immediately after the stimulus took effect. Here, for example, is a chart showing private-sector job losses per month in the year before President Obama took office:

…the month Obama was inaugurated, America’s private sector lost a remarkable 841,000 jobs. That was just in one month … So, take a look at what transpired over the first 14 months the president was in office:

This shows private-sector jobs only, so it’s not skewed by Census jobs. Obama took office, the stimulus took effect, and the job market quickly improved. What I’m curious about is how Republicans explain this … is it possible that all of that spending actually made things better?

The beauty of these Republican lies is that it gives us yet another opportunity to give the actual facts, for those who bother to listen to facts. As long as they are focusing on President Obama’s historic record, and not presenting their own policies for scrutiny, then we can continueto tout unvarnished truth about that stellar record – and also show that Republicans have no ideas of their own, and don’t even understand the various facts that exist. Then, once they start bringing up their failed policies of “tax cuts equal growth” or “reduce spending in a recovering economy – even though it’s been proven to make a recession worse”, then we can hammer them with the facts that tell the truth about the lies they’ve fed this country over 30 years. Either way, they lose with thinking people. The only ones they keep are the idiots who tried to alter history with their wikipedia fiascos over the weekend (to prop up palin).

Ladyhawke, thank you for the article. I absolutely abhor the republiscum, but the author is also right in stating that the dems play the same games. Government is completely broken. I am terribly saddened by the fact that this amazing man we elected has to reign at a time like this.

I am glad it is Obama rather than MCShame, but I cannot help but think how glorious it would be if it he had inherited a time of profit and growth. It makes me a little teary to think about the size of the mess that Obama inherited.

When we have the chance to see President Obama stand on the stage with who ever is the Republican canidate, and debate, people will see that it’s best to stick with what we already have, and that is President Obama. He will show that he is ten times better than anything on the other side.

As long as the Republicans are all spouting the same racist, failed policies, then it really doesn’t matter who wins the nomination. It’ll be the same garbage, different vessel.

The ski home that Mitt and Ann Romney own in Deer Valley overlooks a reservoir and mountains. The Romneys own four mansions across the country.

The “cabin” in Deer Valley, Utah, which overlooks a reservoir and mountains, comes fully furnished with custom-made light fixtures, specially sculpted fireplace screens, and eight full bathrooms. Called the “perfect retreat,” it is 9,500 square feet on 11 acres. The asking price: $5,250,000.

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2009/02/17/2_romney_estates_hit_the_market/?comments=all#readerComm

“According to the Boston Herald, Romney sold his six-bedroom home in Belmont for $3.5 million. A report in the Associated Press last April said Romney sold his home in Utah for $5 million but was keeping a $10 million summer home in New Hampshire and a $12 million home in La Jolla, CA”

Seems Romney was selling off his estates in preparation for his run for the presidency. I guess Mitt learned a lesson from McCain’s campaign when McCain couldn’t answer the question about how many homes he owned. Owning just two multi-million dollar estates is a much more humble image.

Now, how did he get so rich? Oh, yeah. Being the Richard Gere character in Pretty Woman.
