President Obama signs the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010, Dec. 22, 2010
There was mass ‘Obama-bashing’ hysteria on a number of professional left-infested sites today after the news that the secretary of the Air Force had approved a discharge under the military’s ”Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy on April 29 of this year. “The discharge, according to a Pentagon spokeswoman, is the only such discharge since the Pentagon last October directed that DADT discharges would require the approval of the service branch secretary.”
So, we got ‘Obama is a homophobe!’ all over again.
But?
Stripes.com: “….service officials emphasized the move came at the request of the airman, who requested to be released from military service despite the imminent repeal of the law banning openly gay troops … the individual was informed of the current status of the repeal of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell,’ and he reaffirmed that he desired his separation action be expeditiously processed.”
….In a statement, Alexander Nicholson, executive director of the gay rights group Servicemembers United, said the incident “appears to be a classic case of someone simply trying to use ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ … to get out of his service obligation.”
…Pentagon officials confirmed that since those rules went into effect on Oct. 21, this airman is the only person dismissed from the military because of sexual orientation.

Steve Benen: By all appearances, this airman, for whatever reason, simply wanted out of the military. He was offered a chance to keep serving, and asked to be removed anyway. Indeed, since October, this one individual is literally the only person to have been dismissed from the military because of sexual orientation.
Clearly, the sooner the DADT policy is brought to an official end, the better. But to characterize this incident as a betrayal from the administration appears to be an unfair criticism.
ABC: Under the repeal law signed into law last December, DADT won’t be repealed until 60 days after Defense Secretary Gates, Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen and President Obama certify that the readiness of the force has not been affected. To that end, all of the services are in the midst of training their forces for what will change when repeal occurs. Top Pentagon officials have said they expect certification to occur in mid- summer; that will begin the 60 day clock to repeal.

They never want to listen to the full story with all the facts; instead they prefer going off like a gun half-cocked. This is the President who repealed DADT… no one else had the balls, gumption and heart to take on this battle so they really should stop giving him guff, sit in a corner and shut their freakin yap up.

Alot of people who may support gays being treated fair, are being turn off because of things like this. Sometimes I get so fed up with them. They should at least have the guts to apologize for being wrong. And that Dan Choi guy, to hell with him, he just want his fifteen minutes of shame.
You see this B.S. is what this President have had to deal with. There are alot of reasons why the Tea-Republicas took control of the House, and one of them was Democrats not coming out to vote. I think the problem is they get wedded to a single issue and go extreme at it, like the NRA or AIPAC (which only really advances Lakud party values). These folks tend to pull the trigger first and don’t apologize later; they just move on to the next controversy. Problem is the low info voter hears the complaints and may take it to heart. A low info evangelican friend said to me that Obama is turning all anti-Israel. My head hurts from talking with him about it.
I visited Americablog to see what they had to say and they had the nerve to complain that the administration should have TOLD a couple of gay groups (they only gave acronyms for the groups) about this before. Apparently the military and the administration knew about this months ago or so they say.
Since when is the military or the administration obligated to inform anyone in advance about a personal decision made by a soldier? Its not the administration’s fault so many on the left have foot in mouth disease.

How the heck can you belong to a party that constantly says gays are freaks, animals, pedoophiles and molesters. Who stopped the repugs from defunding Planned Parenthood? – PBO and the Dems. Who restored healthcare for all including healthcare reform that specifically targeted women and children so they can get much needed benefits – PBO and Dems. Who constantly fights for the rights of women in the workplace, a woman’s right to choose and equal pay for equal work – PBO and the Dems. Yet you see repug women standing like stepford wives next to repug men who constantly deny them much needed rights. Who fights for ethnic minorities everyday with passage of The Dream Act in the House of Reps, making sure minorities aren’t discriminated against and get their fair share of education and work benefits – PBO and the Dems.
