peculiar pals…

Alex Pareene (Salon): Mother Jones writes about Rep. Michele Bachmann’s connections to Olive Tree Ministries, an evangelical Christian operation founded by a former Jew for Jesus and longtime friend of Bachmann’s named Jan Markell. Olive Tree Ministries … is obsessed with Israel because it believes we are living in the end times. Bachmann’s been on Markell’s radio show multiple times, attended an Olive Tree Ministries conference, and left a testimonial on its website. As MoJo says:

“…in 2005, the then-state senator denied any knowledge of Olive Tree Ministries. However, Markell tells Mother Jones that she’s known Bachmann off and on for 35 years, and says she spoke about Israel at Bachmann’s church in the late 1970s. “My hunch is that they misquoted her,” Markell says. “She’s been at my conference. Why she would have said otherwise, I don’t know.”

….So Bachmann stands with Israel because she needs the Jews to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem so that Christ can return, rapture the Christians up to Heaven, convince the Jews to worship him during the Tribulations, and then rule over the Earth from Israel for 1,000 years. (This is what these people believe, very, very literally.)

….in 2006 she was a member of the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Stillwater, which belongs to the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. WELS is one of the very conservative “confessional” Lutheran denominations that maintains that the “antichrist” is the pope. You know, the leader of the Catholic Church? That pope….

…In 2008, as I’m sure you remember, Michele Bachmann repeatedly called Barack Obama “anti-American” because of his “mentor”, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. And here is Bachmann’s good friend and minister Bradlee Dean calling the pope “that devil disguised as a minister of righteousness.”

It seems more than fair to ask whether Michele Bachmann is anti-Catholic, and whether, should she be elected president, she’d purposefully sabotage a Middle East peace deal in order to bring about the Second Coming. Or whether she’d launch some sort of tactical strike against Vatican City. I think she would. Look who she pals around with!

I’m very familiar with the Jews for Jesus and end-time/fundamentalist/zionist movements. They are crazy on a level that you can’t even imagine. I recognize the crazy look in Bachmann’s eyes because I’ve seen it in lots of fundies. They are totally bonkers.

I hope she runs, because she’ll catch fire in Iowa and effectively end Pawlenty’s campaign.

Bachman and republicans are very scary. They preach patriotism and I find that they are the most unpatriotic people in their actions. I find it very painful to listen to republicans, therefore I stopped. They lie a lot and there is always something sinister lurking in their minds which is not in the best interest of the people. They are toxic.

Both she and Palin have ties to religious extremist kooknuts. Palin has the same motivation for her strong defense of Israel—a means to an end. And they both hear God whispering in their ears and apparently He has chosen them to run for President, which is really weird and irresponsible. I have a whole lot to say about this topic, but I shall refrain myself as I might offend someone, or lots of someones. I have noticed that looneytunes Bachmann has recently assumed a whole new demeanor, speaking calmly and softly and trying to appear sane. She actually believes that she has a chance to be the next POTUS. It’s really quite amazing—-that we have reached this point in our country.

I’d love to hear what you have to say on this subject. You have never struck me as irrational and you logically present your case.

Michele Bachmann will never be president anymore than Trump will or Mark Halperin’s wet dream, Palin, will be. That is why most of the heavy hitters in that other party are waiting for 2016.

It annoys me to no end when people use the name of the Lord for evil purposes or to preach hate, hate and more hate. That’s what palin and bachmann do. God is not that and he is definitely not whispering in their ears. It’s irresponsible talk and it’s like throwing matches on gasoline.

Fortunately, we have all the footage of her real, non-calm, non-reasonable persona. She can’t hide.

Wow. I can’t even begin to describe how happy I am that Barack Obama is the President of the United States in these crazy times. Can you just imagine where we’d be if Sen. John McCain and Gov. she-whose-name-I-will-not-say were Pres. and V. Pres.?

Have faith, folks. It’s gonna get worse, before it gets better. BUT IT”S GONNA GET BETTER!!!

Do you promise mommy? Actually I am feeling pretty stressed by all that is going on. What the repugs are doing to this country, and their determination to destroy our president gives me nightmares at times.

The economy is getting worse because they are doing nothing to encourage job growth and the only thing they care about is getting the presidency back.

Would you sing me a lullaby so I feel better? dr

I would be totally entertained if both Bachmann and Palin would run. I would get my popcorn out to see the two of them along with the other losers in the primaries debating. If they are serious about running which they are not they might pull each others hair out. They are in it for the money to be gained as speakers around the country for the candidates.

They should run on the same ticket. A picture of both of them on a poster entitled:

Well DR, the entire Republican Party is crazy. Name one who puts the welfare of this country before their party. These nuts are only to willing to play around with the debt ceiling.

Very interesting article. Michele Bachmann’s buddy, Sarah Palin, started that “palling around with…” crap, now it looks like Bachmann is going to be hit with it! Let’s see how the Tea Party and the MSM will circumvent this!

I have always felt that Bachmann’s and Palin’s constant rhetoric in support of Israel to be their calculated way to become “one of the chosen” in the end times. I may be wrong; I just question why it is so necessary for them to constantly use opportunities to announce their support for Israel.

Aside from their support of Israel, when I read this from The Most Rev. Dr. Desmond Mpilo Tutu, I had to reflect on both of these ladies!

“We are supposed to proclaim the God of love, but we have been guilty as Christians of sowing hatred and suspicion; we commend the one whom we call the Prince of Peace, and yet as Christians we have fought more wars than we care to remember. We have claimed to be a fellowship of compassion and caring and sharing, but as Christians we often sanctify sociopolitical systems that belie this, where the rich grow ever richer and the poor grow ever poorer, where we seem to sanctify a furious competitiveness, ruthless as can only be appropriate to the jungle.”

I do not want to offend either lady; but, this does cause me to further question their rhetoric.

Regarding Michele Bachmann, I would like for her to accept the challenges of these two high school students: Zach Kopplin from Baton Rouge, La. who has challenged her on her views of creationism, intelligent design and evolution; and Amy Myers from Cherry Hill, NJ who has challenged her for a Constitutional debate. Both would be quite interesting. As far as I’m concerned, accepting these challenges would truly show COURAGE!

Thanks for the laugh! I’m laughing so hard that my eyes are tearing and I can hardly see what I’m typing. Anyway, I agree with you 1000%, that’s why I said, “…accepting these challenges would truly show COURAGE!”

        Enjoy the evening.

It always bothered me that the media spent so much time talking about Jeremiah Wright during the campaign, and they spent very little talking about Sarah Palin’s church up in Wasilla, which I think most Americans would find is way, way out of the mainstream. Same with Bachman. Let’s hope people keep exposing this issue.

This is off topic, but I’m watching HARDBALL (don’t ask me why)and Chris is going crazy about the “Weiner Scandal”…talking about Weiner is going to be the reason why the Dems are going to lose 10 seats in the House…and the reason why no Dems has come to Weiner’s defense is because they are embarrassed…he went on and on and on. I think I’ll use the new feature Chipsticks created, and tell MSNBC/Chris that I could care less about Weiner, so called scandal and anything else so trivial…I wish they would spend more airtime telling the “American People” about the progress of the Health Care Reform, the auto pay back, etc, ect…

Oh Puddin’ I’m with you. When he began the Weiner segment I changed the channel. It’s like enough already. Weiner isn’t helping himself with the interviews he’s granted CNN, Rachel Maddow, Luke Russert and a host of other news channels. Everytime he speaks it’s one convoluted lecture after another. If I were him, I would have just released a press statement and left it at that. Then they wouldn’t have any news reels to run.
