TPM: The ongoing scandal surrounding a lewd tweet sent from Rep. Anthony Weiner’s Twitter account took yet another turn for the weird Thursday as alleged e-mails between the person who first noticed the photo and conservative media guru Andrew Breitbart were leaked.
Breitbart first reported the Weiner story Saturday on his site Big Government using a screengrab from the person in question, Twitter user “@patriotusa76,” who lists his name on his account as Dan Wolfe and said he captured the image from Weiner’s feed before it was deleted. Weiner has said his account was hacked and a number of liberal blogs have pointed to Wolfe – who had a history of crudely taunting Weiner online – as a person of interest.
….The Smoking Gun published emails today from Dan Wolfe, AKA “patriotusa76,” at least one of which listed Breitbart as a recipient. In the first email, Wolfe tips off Breitbart to the screengrab as well as key details of the story and promises at the end that “we have more.”
In the second email, Wolfe appears agitated and warns that he will be in big trouble if unspecified details about his role in the incident leak….

Thank you Fred 😉
I really don’t even care about this clown!
The plot thickens. I hope these guys, if this was an ugly ploy, get theirs. Although, I don’t have much pity for Mr. Weiner, given his propensity to knock our president any change he gets.
I saw this story on Anderson Cooper’s AC360 yesterday night. The more Breitbart keeps getting connected with the story, the more it begins to look like that disgusting attack on Shirley Sherrod. If it was Breitbart and this @patriotusa76 that concuted this mess, then I hope they get charged with hacking into a Federal official’s account. Heck the guy who hacked into palin’s email to reveal her part in troopergate was sentenced to a year in jail. The same or more should be leveled at these despicable duo.
At this point if it is his picture, Weiner should just say it’s his and he sent the pic to his wife (heck they’re newlyweds so we all understand) and he forgot to delete it. End of story. (even if it was stupid to send those pics and still have them on file)
I agree.
Why does Weiner keep trying to brush it off as a prank? It’s obvious it was malicious in intent and given how it is becoming a bigger story still that there is something off about how Weiner is acting.
Maybe he did contact the feds and is playing along to make it a bigger story so it’s a bigger story when it’s squashed and Breitbart and the hacker are implicated or something. I don’t know.
I also question why Weiner had this woman on his follow list given they never met before and she’s not even from his district and her tweets are regular college aged stuff – what is his interest in following her? Nothing illegal or anything like that, but it raises eyebrows.
StR, Rep. Weiner is a politician. When I followed President Obama on Twitter or Facebook, I forget which, I received a request from President Obama to follow me. Do I think he personally requested it? No.
There is an immense amount of information about this situation. I’m disgusted by the way the media is handling it, but I have read some of it. I have read that Rep. Weiner hired a security firm to investigate this who contacted Yfrog. Yfrog/Twitter have a security problem. YFrog has disabled the email upload service because anyone can upload a photo the old way — lots of people were testing it on accounts they created. Yfrog will be able to tell if there is a hack. This is being investigated. The FBI will be called in if/when the evidence is collected and it is appropriate for them to handle it.
The problem as I see it is that CNN took Breitbart at his word and reported it instead of investigating it. Now there are fingers pointing everywhere. This is a technical issue and it should be clear when they investigate what happened.
I personally absolutely believe Weiner. Even if they were his briefs I don’t believe he tried to send that picture to a follower in this public way. He’s very bright and uses social networking more than about any other congressperson. He’s very, very vocal and effective in criticizing the Republicans. This Wolf fellow that supposedly discovered this is a mess and we know that Breitbart has been involved in hoaxes to smear others.
If Weiner did it, then he did, but I don’t think so. If this is a hack and smear job then I hope CNN, Breitbart, and Wolf are held accountable in the strictest possible way. I am so disgusted by the smears instead of the media investigating the technical aspect and reporting on what they find.
YOU KNOW FOLKS, MAYBE MR. WEINER IS GETTING WHAT HE DESERVES…I’M REALLY NOT LIKING HIM ANYWAY JUST BY THE WAY HE HAS DIS-RESPECTED THIS PRESIDENT…I MEAN, HE IS THE 1ST ONE TO RUN TO THE MEDIA MIC WHEN THINGS ARENT GOING PERFECT FOR THE DEMS…CONSTANTLY BASHING…I DO NOT LIKE HIM!!!!
I’m happy this thing is backfiring on Breitbart. After this second high profile incident, he won’t have any credibility left.
I’m sure Weiner is innocent and is holding his tongue because of ongoing investigations, and possible civil pursuits.
Last note on something different: I didn’t know Weiner was married to a close aid of Hillary Clinton. I can’t help thinking it makes him… how can I put it… more prone to impatience when he disagrees with President Obama’s strategies or actions. I think he has a good heart though. Just a bit of a hot head sometimes.
There’s a site called Angry Black Female that has a post up explaining that Weiner was instrumental in getting Clarence Thomas to release his and his wife’s tax forms. they were released on Friday. It appears to have been a well organized attempt by Breibart and friends to discredit Weiner. I’m sorry I don’t know how to provide a link to the story.
