President Obama place a challenge coin on the grave of a fallen soldier at Arlington National Cemetery

This made me laugh – there’s not a single mention of the President of the United States’ address at Arlington on Halperin’s page, instead the lead story is about…… the Flip-Flopper releasing a statement on Memorial Day πŸ™„

That made me cry UT. It was such an emotional tribute. I will be running out of tears very soon because I have had my fair share of crying since this great man was elected. May God continue to protect him and Michelle plus his to precious daughters.

Oh gc. Teddy’s passing just about broke my heart. I miss him everyday. As a college student I always thank him for fighting for the creation of Pell Grants. I also thank him for always fighting for affordable prices for education while fighting for the best teahcers and the best education system. Also I thank him for his lifelong fight for healthcare reform.

Your well will never run dry, it is the same well that contains our joys. Without joy we would not recognize our sorrows….the members of this community in their abundance of empathy and compassion will always recognize and respond to both the joys and the sorrows of our world…because of our heart.

To all here who serve, have served or have loved ones who serve, I am humbled and grateful for your commitment and your sacrifice. May God Bless and keep you always.

Hello all, I just wanted to wish you a good Memorial Day- thank you Chips as always for putting up the reminder of the President speaking. I missed some of it, but caught the story of Travis and Brenden.. so touching. I knew many a young person in the military who established friendships like the two young man. I am still very close friends with a man I served with 30 plus years ago.. through our marriages, family ups and downs and now we’re both grandparents. I only enlisted for 4 years but he was lifer and retired. Anyway, the story of Travis and Brenden really moved me.

Thanks Hachiko – the first article is interesting. I know this is over-simplifying, but it seems that once doctors get money out of the equation, they remember what being a doctor is supposed to be about – helping patients. On the one hand, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to make a lot of money, and not wanting to pay nearly $100,000 a year in malpractice insurance. But it seems that most of the premise of the Republican view of doctors is that they care more about money than patients.

If ever there was a case for single-payer health care, this is it. Get rid of the profit motive, incentive real doctors who want to serve patients, and then work on improving standards and quality of care to reduce/eliminate the need for malpractice suits.

        May 30, 2011 at 12:33 pm

Your second article is interesting, too. Republicans want the Administration to crack down on workplace raids, but they don’t want employers to suffer, just the exploited employees who are working illegally. President Obama is holding the right culprits available. If you just get rid of one employee working illegally, there will be others to take his/her place. If you go to the source of illegal jobs, those who exploit workers, then you get to the heart of eliminating the problem. I love it!

When he wrote a ridiculous article and referenced the President condscendingly as “Bam”…I reached my limit.
I wrote Time magazine, cancelled our paid subscription, refuse to go to their website unless a specific piece is highlighted here or at BWD, and when the subscription requests come in the mail I return them marked, No Never, thanks to Halperin his irrelevance and his irreverance.BAM!

Sarah Palin is the MSM’s porn star and they her pornographers…Halperin is a drummer boy for political theater and controversy. Morning Jackass and company are the schoolyard bullies and the country club clique
…..who really needs this crap? Not me.

As we work to re-elect President Obama, and qualified Democrats we must keep in mind we are running against the Republicans, the MSM, and the Corporate interests. Depsite the greatness of our President….we are still David battling Goliath. Let’s do everything we can to see our country is in well intended and capable leadership.

So right – I’ve heard many say that palin is like “crack” to this media. This is such an apt description of their obsession/addiction to this pathetic person. She’s dangerous, and not good for the health of this country. And they continue to go back for more and more of her, even though she’s destroying the country a little more each time. They are under an illusion with her, just like drug addicts think that the highs they get from their drugs great. Absolutely nothing to be gained from an association with palin, other than leading everyone down the path to destruction.

          Spot on Sue…

As for Halperin, there was alays something slimy, evil, racist, repulsive, bitter and underhanded about him…

Never trusted, liked or listened to him. Everytime he opened his mishapen mouth, his biases, leanings and agenda were so clear and the thought that anyone actually believed him to be anything but a racist right wing operative, shocks me – He was always so obvious…

Did not buy game change the book and will never buy books written by any of these petty, opportunistic, hate-mongering, self-serving, unpatriotic frauds…

Sue – My brother escorted choppers that took bodies out of Danang. Wow…just Wow. As for your brother’s job search, tell him not to give up. I was out of work for two years and hubby was employed sporadically. Needless to say, it’s been a HUGE challenge for hubby and I in this economy. Both of us recently found jobs with companies that LOVE older people, not flying or repairing airplanes, but I would like to offer him our encouragement and prayers in his job search.

One of my favorite tennis players, Francesca Schiavone, won the French Open last year. Without going into her history, no one ever expected her to be in the final, much less to win it. Her family and friends all wore tee shirts that read “Schiavo, Nothing is Impossible.” I would like to pass that sentiment on to your brother. May God bless him now and for his service to our country.

      Good for you Sue.

I have a similar story. I was on a bus trip on Sat and after the great week from our great President I decided to wear one of my Obama T-Shirts. This right-winger decided to pick a fight with me about politics….I told him “I don’t think you want to have this conversation with me.” I repeated it 3 times yet he kept coming after me so I decided to “let him have it”….other people on the bus, mostly of asian decedent, were silent, but were giving me “O” signs and winking that I was right. I was so happy to rip into a real live uninformed Republican….it made my day and made being stuck on the Donna Summit in a major spring snow storm for 3 hours, almost bearable. May God Bless President Obama and continue to protect him for those “uninformed” people who hate him for no reason.

      Go Sue…

I just got my President Obama made in America t-shirts…

I also ordered a bunch of them for everyone I know…

It is going to be great fun wearing them especially to mass…

During the 2008 elections, I’d wear a different President Obama tee to mass every sunday. Going to recieve communion and later kneeling in front of the blessed sacrament in the sanctuary, with angry and nervous glances from some in the congregation was amusing…

I’d quietly feign ignorance and greet everyone with warm smiles and hugs as I walked through…

Soon, some of the younger kids were showing up in their own Obama tees at mass…

A quiet, loving and gentle coup…

Now sometimes when I am out and about in public (like at the mall) I find myself wondering if those I pass by happen to be TODers too. I find myself smiling more thinking that maybe the unfamiliar faces belong to some of the wonderful people in this online community.

We might need to make a slight change/addition to your great t-shirt. Could we add to the words already there…PBO ran in 2008 & HE HAS NOT STOPPED RUNNING/MOVING/WORKING/THINKING/NEGOTIATING/TRAVELING/COMFORTING/INSPIRING/LEADING so that are children might fly! Have you thought to create your own transfers? The transfers can be used on ready-made clothing or fabric. It’s simple enough. Any craft store, such as β€œMichaels,” can help you. Pick you favorite pictures of President Obama or First Lady Michelle Obama and create your one-of-a-kind iron-on transfers or appliques to transfer to a T-Shirt, shirt, skirt, shorts or jeans. You might wish to use your chosen picture-transfers on a plain fabric to be used to make jeans or slacks.

I would use appliques on dark color fabrics and iron-on transfers on light color fabric.

Just some ideas which you may wish to consider if you can’t find what you are looking for. Good luck.

That’s what I had in mind…Lazertran transfer medium, which would allow you to make a transfer from a favorite photograph (the hard part would be picking the photograph)
…this has got my juices flowing.

If you are free spirited and artsy…and need some direction..Cloth,Paper,Scissors or a Somerset Studio publication might help loosen up your thoughts and get your creativity flowing.

I will never forget seeing a clip of him on one of those MSNBC shows touting how he thought Trump was a serious candidate and would run and that more Republican candidates should get a “take it directly too Obama” approach that Trump used. My sentiments exactly Theo. Hatred and bad values get passed from generation to generation. Perfect Example is Ron Paul who said he wouldn’t have voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 b/c the Govt shouldn’t tell business what to do. Fast forward to 2010 elections and his son Rand Paul echoed his father’s sentiments and basically said it was ok for businesses to discriminate against black people and other minorities as long as it was a private business. It’s disgusting that there are people like these in the world and they pass on such vitriolic values to their children in an effort to spread hate.

Counterfeits and knock-offs were always that…

Painfully cheap immitations even when they are the ‘higher end’ knock-offs…are stil knock-offs…

And everyone still hankers after the original and especially the exclusive limited editions of the authentic merchandise no matter how expensive…

Because in the end, no matter how easy it may appear to pass off a knock-off as the genuine article, those who know the difference, know the difference…and those who indulge in fakes never carry them with confidence always worried that they’ll be exposed or found out…and laughed at. Nothing worse than a poseur, a wannabe who really can’t afford the genuine article…

And all it takes is a closer look…

And suddenly you notice the obvious: the cheap hardware, the peeling, bleeding, fading, chipping, the stitching that soon comes undone and the sometimes mispelt or missing letters that never happen with the genuine item…

And then there is of course, the authenticating serial numbers and date codes that distinguish the genuine item from the fake and guarantees the real deal for a life time…

Financial gain. The MSM is exploiting the upcoming campaign in efforts to enrich their own bottom lines. They want to duplicate the cash cow that the 2008 campaign was for them. The are attempting to create the illusions of a political contest. Sadly many Americans will be influenced by their machinations.

That’s not what he’s saying here – he’s saying it’s more important than his Presidential chances; that he wouldn’t undo the law (if he could) if it meant it would improve his chances to win the Presidency.

He’s an idiot, as mentioned above. President Obama has already said that states can go it alone if they have a better plan. That argument he’s trying to make about “imposing it on the entire country” is already obsolete and was wrong to begin with. Next.

For both of the videos above when I hit for them to play on this site annoying goggle adds take up about the bottom third of the video. There is an option to “x” then out which I did. One ad in particular really peeved me. It was a link for some silly sort of poll as to whether President Obama should be reelected in 2012. Other ads included “date pretty chinese girl” and one for a nissan car dealership. Is this happening for others too? Anyway to avoid those ads from popping up on TOD? Just want you to be aware of this Chips in case you didn’t know it was happening. I have not noticed it before.

Our media is a disgrace. I try not to promote that woman but this article at talking points memo echoes my sentiments about the media and that phoney.

“No one is fooled, really. But the conventions and protocols of “reporting” requires pretending otherwise. Contrary to a lot of our readers, I don’t think the answer is for the media to ignore Palin. Pointing out her ridiculousness doesn’t build her up and doesn’t give her oxygen without which she would disappear, to anticipate two of the most common arguments for not covering Palin. But the traditional standards of journalism don’t allow reporters to tell readers matter of factly what a charlatan and fraud Palin is. That’s considered crossing some bright line between reporting and opinionating when in fact what has been drawn is a unconscionable and indefensible line between reporting and the truth.”

      • 150 Sue in Minnesota
        May 30, 2011 at 2:42 pm

They should not ignore her, but they should adjust their degree of coverage, and curb the bombast. They devote way to much energy, talent and output to the inanities that are Palin. They also refuse to seriously investigate beneath the surface, and therefore have no regard for the truth.

I refer to Palin as MSM porn, and the MSM is her pornographer. America seems to enjoy it’s porn.

Well would that rule of theirs also apply to covering the President? How come they didn’t cover his European tour? Or any of the things he does? These corporate media dumbasses think we don’t know the corporate puppeteers they answer to?”Have to cover Palin for journalistic reasons, my foot!!!

          May 30, 2011 at 5:41 pm

Their duplicity and addiction is enough to make you spit. The claim that she’s avoiding journalists is a little bit moot since all the media is breathlessly covering her. And what do they propose to do if she becomes President and her stupidity puts the rest of us in danger – worldwide? Will they apologize for their part in it? For duping a public that only pays attention long enough to read headlines, and has adopted a victim mentality where they can’t be held accountable for the consequences of their inaction?

This woman boils my blood like no other, simply because she’s a grifter, full of dark energy, and possessing a witchlike ability to attract attention. I can’t blame her for trying to make as much money as possible, or having a supreme lack of morals and values that is breathtaking in its audacity. But, I can blame her for what evil she spews and puts out there into the world. And I absolutely blame the media and stupid Americans for giving her the time of day.

She was ridiculed in China and India. She’s considered an absolute joke. And this is what she will attract to the country, should she be allowed to do so, and that will reverse the many good works that President Obama has done these past years. And that is unforgiveable.

As Wonkette said, she probably doesn’t know he was black, what with all her race-baiting and racist attracting dog whistle speeches. And the further outrage that she refuses to answer questions, directs everyone to her political website and the DONATE button. MLK never promoted divisiness, race-baiting, uploading crosshairs aimed at democrats, encouraging people not to retreat but to reload. MLK is about positivity, fighting hard to overcome obstacles, protesting injustice and falsehoods. MLK practically gave his life fighting selflessly for the underprivileged, the downtrodden and the disenfranchised. This woman… no.. this cretin is the scourge of society. Nothing gets my blood boiling than when ambulance chasing opportunists use the name and works of good people for their sick and depraved pursuits. • 214 GOVCHRIS1988

THIS.PISSES.ME.OFF!!!!! Usually I come here and watch and read the posts by Chipsticks and you all, since you all say everything that needs to be said and I really don’t need to add anything to that. But, this right here just…ughhh. This right here is the reason why Republicans will never capture the majority black vote. True black, really, Sevastian Winters? Herman Cain is “True black?” Herman Cain, born 1945, Memphis, Tennessee to a domestic worker and a chauffeur? Now, lets see 1945 in Tennessee, nearly 80 years after slavery ended. Unless Lenora and Luther Cain Jr. were immigrants from Eritrea, Sudan or Nigeria, HELL NO HE’S NOT “TRUE BLACK”!!!! Lenora and Luther Cain Jr most likely, like my family and nearly every black family had slave lineage. This is why I was so pissed at Cornel West and many black folks who feel that they are more blacker that President Obama. Now, during slavery, it was common for either the master, the master’s children, the Overseer, or indentured field hands to have sexual relations with the slave girls. Sometimes by affection and love, mostly by force. Since condoms hardly existed in those days and the men rarely ever stopped before finishing their deed, many of these slavegirls were impregnated by those men’s seed. Therefore, producing “mulatto” or half black/half white children. Most of those children remained slaves, though they were afforded more lenient tasks than the fieldhands.

After slavery, some adopted the male’s race and “passed” for white. Many, however married other black men, again mixing lineages. It didn’t stop during slavery though. I am a testament to it. My great grandfather was white. You can see his features through my 82 year old grandmother. She married a black man and had three children. One is my mother, who though is dark mahogany like I am has the most lush, curly hair. She has never had to wear a weave or extensions in her hair. She just grows it out easy. You can even see it on my father’s side, with both my Grandparent’s parents. Dig under the surface, you will find a white relative. So, when I see an article about Barack Obama, not being the first black President and trying to say that Herman Cain if elected would be, I know for a fact this guy has absolutely no clue about what he says. Barack Obama is a product of a Kansan white mother and a Luo Kenyan black father. Check Barack Obama Sr’s lineage, I doubt you’ll find a white DNA line like I can find with my family. This makes Barack Obama 50% true black, so relatively speaking, he is probably DNA wise much more blacker than me or Herman Cain. No matter what Teabaggers do to move the goalposts away, BARACK OBAMA WILL ALWAYS BE THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!! I’m done. I’m sorry if this is long, but I needed to rant a bit.

GovChris. I’m with you, all the way! I hear your rant, loud and clear. Those folks are crazy. But we must all also remember how twisted our American society is about race. Check out the links listed below.

Pres. Abraham Lincoln was caricatured as “Abraham Africanus the 1st” – There was even a cartoon printed by his political opponents in a Washington DC paper. I had always heard that Warren G. Harding was a ‘brass ankle’ from Ohio. Clearly others had heard it too…

The best case for Black ancestry is against Warren G. Harding, our 29th president from 1921 until 1923. Harding himself never denied his ancestry. When Republican leaders called on Harding to deny the “Negro” history, he said, “How should I know whether or not one of my ancestors might have jumped the fence.”

Read more at the following links about Lincoln, Harding, Jackson, Jefferson, Coolidge, and some say, even Eisenhower…

He’s is supported by 13-15% of the GOP; mostly hard core tea party type. Since GOP only 30% of population he is supported by less than 10% of population. I hardly think in this era of international strife and uncertainty the American people would hand over the WH and control of the armed forces, national security, and nukes to a pizza CEO! MSM just wants to create controversy, anticipation, and consumers of their crap for the next 18 months.

    Hi everyone !

As usual, a beautiful and moving speech by President Obama. He always makes it personal and real.

Something else touched my heart too: the tribute Bob Gates gave to President Obama. I always knew Bob Gates admired and respected President Obama. But I think he’s never been more clear about it than today. And this in a very public setting.

I took the time to transcribe it:

“… For the rest of my life, I will keep these patriots and their loved ones in my heart and in my prayers, as I know does their Commander-in-Chief, who has so steadfastly supported those bearing the brunt of the fight. I’ve been honored to work with President Obama for the past two and a half years, and to see the deep seriousness and thoughtfulness with which he weighs the security of the nation and the safery of the men and women who serve. Throughout, he has never shrunk from the tough decisions, the heavy burdens and the true responsabilities of command. It is my privilege and my honor to introduce the President of the United States” Bob Gates, May 30th, 2011.

Yes, Lovepolitics2008, this tribute to our President by Bob Gates brought me to tears even before the flood brought on by our precious leader who paid tribute to all who’ve died for us, including slaves and the women who disguised themselves as men in order to fight for rights they would never experience.

I was so impressed by Sec. Gates tribute to President Obama, as well. He could have talked about all the Presidents he’s served in a bucket, but he singled out President Obama – and I don’t think that was by accident. I agree – they seem to really respect and admire each other. I can’t wait for the official tribute to Secretary Gates.

I think the President feels the same way about Admiral Mullen, too. Really nice.

      • 223 Lovepolitics2008
        May 30, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Yep. And I’m sure Admiral Mullen has a high opinion of President Obama too. Mullen, Gates, and others… Those men have seen it all. They can identify a TRUE leader when they see one. A leader of character, courage and integrity.

Theo, I thought the same thing about how Gates singled out President Obama in his glowing remarks yesterday. I wish Gates could make a public compare and contrast regarding his experience serving under both GWB and BHO That will not happen, but I like to think we can infer what is meant by all he did not say about GWB.

She’s not running for president. She’s just looking for publicity and her next paycheck. And she knows that the minute she says “I’m NOT running for President” all the cameras and microphones will go away…

I’m in Philadelphia and at least, she’s got the good sense to NOT publicize when she’s passing by the Liberty Bell. Judging by her last visit here, when she was LOUDLY booed off the ice at a Flyer’s hockey game, somebody must have remembered that. She wrongly thought that bringing her young daughter with her would stop Philadelphia fans from booing her. I don’t condone booing, but if her people had even a tap of sense, they would have known that not only is Phila a solidly Democratic city but also Phila. sports fans want SPORTS, not foolishness.

Hi dotster, it’s called “Ratings” no more no less. John King’s show is kinda in the toilet. He will say anything right now for someone to watch him. When he interviewed Donald Trump, Trump rudely mentioned to King that his show was awful and he could use a few positive ratings. I could not believe Trump had the “..lls” to say that on air. Two words stuck out in Sec’y Gates’ introduction of the President: “deep seriousness and thoughtfulness.” That is how he approaches everything. American people are having a hard time getting used to this. We got so used to the opposite for at least eight years.
I read (on the orange site) that two elections were held in Italy today, and the people of the anti-Berlusconi party won. One lady wrote on a blog that Berlusconi is an embarrassment to Italy, and they want someone like President Obama. The two elections were for mayors of cities, and the people are rejoicing that they beat Berlusconi’s far right machine. Enough people in Italy and Europe saw his embarrassing behavior at the G8 summit, that his total downfall ay be hastened.

Such a sea change from the last administration who filled posts with horse traders, grifters, and otherwise unqualified people.

300 Bikers Foil Westboro Baptist Church’s Obama Joplin Protest

It was a good article Doris, thank you. However with that said, I read the comments.. and one of the commentors makes it clear that he and the other ‘bikers’ were not there for President Obama, but for the people morning their loved ones. Which is good, nice and neighborly… but frankly, why weren’t they there for the President too, is my question. What seperates him from the ‘people’.. he was there for the people, surely the bikers can be there for him as well as the people. This is the kind of stuff that I find so distasteful about we Americans. Anyway, thank you for sharing the story.

I read the comments also. Yeah, he said he wasn’t there for Obama, but in effect, he was. Because Pres. Obama came for the people of Joplin, and he (the biker) was there for the people of Joplin, so they were on the same ‘mission’ I also read that there were some truckers who blocked the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) people in at a gas station. Supposedly the state trooper said, that they forgot the address of the gas station and had other duties that they needed to tend to.

WBC is the “church” group that protests and hold up signs that say vile things at funerals. They really are hateful, How they can open their mouths to call themselves a church is beyond me…

The President was there for the citizens including the bikers. It was good that the bikers were there for the people of Joplin. We have a president that is inclusive and patriotic. Does it make you less patriotic to be there for everyone including the president? A president cannot cure every problem or fix every issue, but this one is trying. At least he is not flying over and doing a photo op with some stupid untrained lacky. God Bless the citizens of Joplin, and the bikers and the President. This is one example of the best of
