welcome home

From Bobfr

Dear Mr President,

Welcome home and thank you for the enormous achievement your trip to Ireland, UK and Europe represents.

You have won the hearts and minds of countless individuals; you have warmed them with the generosity of your spirit; and, you have restored respect for America – no small task given the vast damage GW Bush and his Administration did to our values and our reputation as a Nation of Laws and one that respects the life of every person.

To the Future!

Thank you Bobfr for that beautifully written comment. I concur. This has been an amazing trip. I feel like I am running out of words to express how I feel. This man is changing us and the world. Safe travels home Mr. President.
    Our prayers are with you.

Hey Bobfr thanks for the delightful well wishes to the President. He really is the BEST ambassador for the United States. Ever since he took the helm after the disastrous reign of GW, America has once again become the beacon of hope, honesty, patience, intelligence and true strength of character it was always meant to be.

Beautiful comment and beautiful accompanying photo. Great choice, Chip. I can just imagine the joy that lady still feels today. She probably has that photo proudly displayed in a place of prominence in her home. Happy to show it off to everyone who enters therein.

Hey Bob, Thanks for the wonderful comment! The way people in Ireland, UK, France, were genuinely welcoming of the president and the First Lady was breathtaking. May be now more Americans will begin to appreciate him, and especially the fact that he has worked so hard to “restore respect for America” in the world.

I can’t believe what an awesome week this has been for the President. Personally if ever there was a need for President of the world, I think it should be President Barack Obama 🙂

OT, i feel a little bad, because I was pissed at the lack of support by congress in advocating and sticking up for the President, and also for practically kissing Netanyahu’s ass during his speech to Congress. When they called me for a donation, I told them forget it.Until I see better messaging and more togetherness in sticking up for the President, I won’t give a single dime to the backstabbing Democratic Congress. I told them only OFA is getting my money.

Now I’m wondering if I was too harsh and petty….

      May 27, 2011 at 10:39 pm

I think you were quite justified in your refusal to give a donation. It is after all your money. When you feel that they have stepped up to the plate and grown a backbone, then you can resume your donations.

    • 14 MrsJVD
      May 27, 2011 at 10:44 pm

I don’t think that was too harsh nor petty, Pinkbunny. The Dems in Congress need to fully understand that if they want our support, they NEED to do a much better job of supporting our President.

      May 27, 2011 at 11:03 pm

I don’t think you were too harsh either, just more direct and less circumspect. Me on the other hand, I got same congressional call for donations (and while feeling like you do about the lack of support/loyalty for PBO from Congress), but I chickened out and said that finances was tight at the moment, so i could only afford to donate to OFA at the moment. They are supposed to be calling me back in a couple months.

Your mention of lack of loyalty coupled with fundraising reminded me of a thought that came to me the morning after we discussed Bill Clinton’s “Call me’ comment to Paul Ryan.

💡 In order for us ‘loyalists’ to take some of the sting out of the disloyal behaviour of some democrats towards the President, we donate to an account created at OFA for just that purpose – the False Friend account, for example. I suggest a $5 donation when a member of the rank and file (ex frustrati, pundit, etc) is disloyal, and $10 when a democratic congress person or (ex-)senior democrat (Clinton, Weiner, Dean, etc.) is disloyal. This donation would be separate from regular donations, and separate from TOD’s or BWD’s efforts. [Republican attacks wouldn’t impact this account because you’d expect THEM to be critical.] I perceive of this not as a way to glorify their disloyalty, but as a way for us to do something practical (as well as contacting them) that may relieve our spleen while adding to the campaign coffers. Dare I call it a way to ‘spit in their faces’? 😦 Gross imagery, I know. In other words, a way to get some good out of a comment, criticism, or behaviour they meant for harm to the President’s candidacy. THIS ACCOUNT COULD BE ADDED TO FROM NOW UNTIL THE ELECTION and whatever amount was raised – small or large – could give us a pratical picture of the obstacles PBO faced in his own party. IMO some experienced person (we have many ‘experts’ in this family) could set up the account at OFA with a little explanation and provide a practical way to fight back while helping the financial cause of re-election. **Oh boy, I hope this makes sense to the rest of the family.**

Only by posting it here, Lisa. I wasn’t sure how to get to her otherwise and I know she reads all comments. (I was somewhat ‘fearful’ of putting my idea out there in full view. 😦 Thanks for responding.) I wouldn’t know how to set this up at OFA – being computer challenged and all I still haven’t been able to get my avatar set up – but I know there are others here who would, including Meta, Chipsticks, Donna, etc. etc. The thing is I don’t know how much work would be involved to keep it going and I wouldn’t want to add anything to Chipsticks already extensive commitment to TOD, or to anyone else’s load by naming them. If this is something that the family feels could add a little sense of psychological triumph over the publicly disloyal democrats, I figure it might be more effective if someone volunteered to do the setting up as their contribution to the ’cause’.

At the top of every page, underneath the words OBAMA Diary are several- I guess you can call it tabs- from the left it reads: hello, contact me, etc. You can click on contact me and send her an e-mail about. Maybe she can set up the fund. She actually appears to be more computer and internet savvy, especially with OFA, than the rest of us. Please send her an e-mail. I think you’re idea is a great one because first, it helps burn off steam and two, it’s money we could be saving for the campaign.

      May 27, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I think you were spot on in your reaction, Pinkbunny. If we want to hold on to Democratic seats in 2014, and the Democratic White House in 2016, then the party has to start behaving like a party. Right now, a lot of supporters are supporting President Obama, but have said they are wide open when it comes to 2016. It’s one thing for President Obama to inspire loyalty, but there’s no guarantee that the next candidate will inspire the same. They have to win back the hearts of the Democratic supporters. And when they’re applauding an idiot who is insulting and disrespecting the President of the United States, on US soil, while said President is on a formal state visit halfway around the world… not right.

    • 24 Sue in Minnesota
      May 28, 2011 at 12:26 am

I have done the very same thing, on two occassions. I actually think the conversations I had with the callers were worthwhile and was assured that they would pass on my concerns. For the time being, I am donating directly to those who inspire my support. At this time, I just don’t pick up their calls….and they come all day, everyday.

I understand that all politics is local, and that what flies in Missouri doesn’t necessarily fly in New York. But it is not necessary to demean the President when presenting alternate positions and considerations. President Obama is a great role model if any of them need help with how to more effectively communicate without tearing holes, or creating divisions in the party as a whole.

    • 25 Chi
      May 28, 2011 at 5:14 am

Absolutely nothing to feel guilty about Pinkbunny…

They need to hear our concerns or else everyone will think it’s ok to demean the President and still get our money and support…

Or they’ll delude themselves into believing that there are no repercussions for the bad behavior, their mistreatment and outright disrespect of our President…

Our President Obama..the *only* reason a person like me started donating money to the Democratic party in the first place…

I don’t think you were to harsh pinkbunny. I feel the same way. And I plan on sending an email to Debbie W. Schultz and telling her exactly what you said. Plus I sent that Harry Reid an email too and it wasn’t a nice one either. I don’t think they support this President like they should. I will continuing sending the President re-election campaign a donation also, but not the Democratic Party.

As one Israeli journalist wrote Bibi could have read the phone book and Congress would have given him a standing ovation.

What I love is Bibi got the message loud and clear because he walked back his lie big time and acknowledged the President told the truth. I suspect after his embarrassing performance that little stroll on the White House lawn combined with Obama knocking it out of the park at AIPAC along with that poll showing a solid majority of Israelis back our President had a lot to do with it.

They are sent to Washington to work for US, not Israel. None of them will get a dime from me. All donations to PBO. That’s the deal.

The question that made me laugh was when a Polish reporter asked if visa negotiations between America and Poland were still ungoing b/c the Polish people would like to shop in New York on Fifth Avenue. PBO and everyone laughed and their expressions were like “huh? This is your MAJOR concern?”. Then PBO answered and said yes the negotiations are fruitful and yes you can shop on 5th avenue and anywhere else in America. 🙂

What happened to the “night everyone” thread? I wrote a comment to it and I noticed it had vanished after pressing the “post comment” button. Am I the only one who experienced this?

Anyway good morning ya’ll from my neck of the woods (it’s 2;30 Pm here). I actually feel the president is safer abroad than back in the US. The rabid hatred of him especially when he travels to the deep scarlet red states is enough to keep my stomach in permanent knots.

What a country! A once in a lifetime president comes along who is willing to do whatever it takes to get the ship of state on a sustainable course, and all he gets in return is scorn, obstructionism, hatred, and backbiting from his opponents and his own party. You have a President who performs unimaginable feats amidst these long odds, catches and kills America’s # 1 nemesis, restores the country’s tattered image, presides over historic changes in the Middle East and North Africa without inserting the US into these delicate changes, and is popular almost everywhere outside US. Yet his own countrymen poo poo his achievements.

Meanwhile you have a corporate media eager to push the worst GOP nincompoops forward then claim they are better qualified to run the country than the super smart President currently occupying the seat. What gives?

Well, all is not lost. He has an approval rating anywhere from 50% to 55%, and a personal likability rating (my favorite poll stat of all) in the 70s, and people are slowly but surely waking up.

PBO will always have his haters, but over time, I think even they will have to give him his due.

This is a big country that has been on a certain track for 30 years or so. We are still adjusting to this man being elected President. In the big picture, we have already changed in so many ways, and I’m sure we will continue to move in a positive direction through 2012 and beyond.

‘His family sacrifices much for the rest of us.’ This is the reason, coupled with the way he has been treated by some, why I wouldn’t want Mrs. O to run like some have suggested in the past. IMO in 2016 the family, and the girls in particular, will need the time to reknit outside the glaring publicity ,before the girls start thinking of spreading their wings. As it is now, a win in 2012 will be great for us, but I ask myself ‘will it be great for Malia?’

Maybe she’s having difficulties getting online, because as you know she’s always let us know if she was planning to be ‘away’. In the meantime, I guess we can pray and send positive vibes her way until contact is re-established.

Chipsticks, if you can ‘see’ us but can’t communicate, just take good care of yourself and don’t worry while you’re trying to solve the problem. We’ll hold the fort.

Sending love and good thoughts your way!

Wonderful gesture of appreciation Bobfr and EDP, hope the Prez gets to see em.

The Prez is going to be 50 this year, sent him a email for his b.day two years ago. Any ideas of what to do for his big 50?

Maybe we should put heads together and come up with a collaborative way to recognize and celebrate him. Maybe the TOD and BWD communities could combine their efforts. Thinking out loud.

I remember when the House went Republican and the Senate became even more fillibusterish, someone wrote that the President would be turning to foreign policy until he was able to advance more legislation at home. This President does not waste his time. We are seeing his efforts on the international front from trade, to supporting democratic movements, the peace process in Israel and Palestine, finding OBL and working to end the war effort in Afghanistan. By the way July will begin the long awaited troop draw down in that country.
