It’s hard to keep up!….Looking good Mr. President.

I just received a call from one of my friend…we’re in french Quebec. He doesn’t speak english.
So it’s from the french news in Quebec.

He said to me: wow Obama made a fool of himself in England, it’s all over the news.

Of course it was the toast to the queen. I said to him that he wasn’t finish, the music started….BFD.
My friend said…well they are making fun of him all over.

I said to him…that’s it?? that’s all they talked about??…He said, yep, pretty much.

Geez…stupidity in so call ”journalism” is not only in the states.

Wow. That’s ridiculous. Jealousy will try to make itself known through any opportunity. Here it only got play the day after it occurred and none of the late night people made fun of it. Letterman said there was “some sort of mix-up.” Then he showed a clip of GW toasting the queen with one of the British Royal Guard hats covering his face. To which the audience laughed heartily. But no offense to your friend, but I doubt we should be worrying about what Canada’s media thinks. Shout-out to Aunt Maeve and Jim!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Lisa. I don’t recall anyone here making fun of PBO after the band began too soon. Even in some of the most jingoistic papers very little if anything was said disparagingly about it. For what it’s worth I think Barack’s speech at the dinner was perfect. It’s a shame the band came in too early but it certainly added atmosphere to that fantastic quote from Shakespeares Henry 5th. (One of my favorite quotes I have to admit.) I was in tears by the end of it as it was such a moving speech. I get so mad with so called journalists when they have to knock down your incredible President, I believe it IS jealousy because he is such an elequent and intelligent man with a good and honest heart.

I’m thinking the raised glass is the signal to the orchestra to begin playing the anthem. Whatever the mixup, they handled it with grace and dignity. IMO, it’s hard to look at this as such a Big Damn Deal…
but rather a simple glimpse of humanity.

Funny, I haven’t heard or read a thing about the Queen repeating herself while reading her prepared speech. Not putting down the Queen; afterall, she is in her eighties. Just find it strange that not a word has been uttered about her ‘gaffe’.

    • May 27, 2011 at 12:57 pm

To add: I was watching Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen – the show that comes on to talk about what just happened on The Real Housewives of NYC (or any of the other cities) and he always has a segment called “Jackhole of the Week”. He replayed the toast and said the Queen shouldn’t have just stood there and make Obama look bad. Willie Geist (of Morning Joke) also stood up for President Obama. I wouldn’t have called the Queen a jackhole and I’m not mad at her for choosing to do as the music dictated but I’m glad Andy and Willie stood up for the president instead of being jackholes themselves.

Hey, you take it where you can get it. ๐Ÿ™‚

ChristiMTL, the fool is not President Obama, it the ones who would take something like what happen and try to make a big deal out of it. The same way those who had a pissey fit when Michelle put her arm around the Queen. The ones who are making fun of our President, it is only because he is ten times better than anything they have over there as a leader. It won’t bother the President, he is the first one who would laugh right with you about what happen. He would give you one of those big smile of his. And then he will go about doing what he has to do.

‘Geezโ€ฆstupidity in so call โ€journalismโ€ is not only in the states.’

I posted my ‘rant’ agreeing with you a couple days ago. It related to an English Canadian TV broadcast hilighting two ‘negative’ incidents, one from a previous visit; that was the sum total of their Obama in Europe news, at least, on that news broadcast. I was fortunately not around long enough to hear the next news broadcast. Part of my point was that I (we?) have to show more empathy towards ‘innocent’ voters who seek to be informed and get stuck in the middle of this kind of repetitive garbage reporting. I mean, what can/should they do if they can’t make it online to sites like we do? I suppose it puts the onus on those of us who can sniff out the real info AND have access to them to try and share what we know. Mainstream media = epic fail both in Canada and USA IMO!

I really can’t speak for the USA, and I no longer pay attention to news here, but I should add that radio news here does tend to repeat the same information every half hour so it can seem like ‘all over the news’. The only time I listen to the radio is when I’m in my car, and when on long drives this is extremely irritating.

OT: Hey guys I was just watching Andrea Mitchell and she had the President of Rolling Thunder: A group that conducts motorcycle rides to honor and raise awareness about our Veterans. The President Ted Shaphk(?) just wholeheartedly condemned Palin for implying that the Rolling Thunders endorsed her “possible” run for President. He called her an attention seeker who used this event to divert attention to herself and her bus tour. He said that he’s really really pissed off that people and media types have been blowing up his phone and all they want to talk about is Palin’s speech and appearance at Rolling Thunder on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. He said that her bus tour has NOTHING to do with their event. They have an event and Palin appears after them. He emphasized that the group in no way wants to be affiliated with her b/c she doesn’t stand for what they believe.

It was funny watching Andrea trying to soften the STING and REBUKE of Palin, but Ted was having none of that. He made it explicitly clear that the group does NOT endorse nor support failin palin. It was S-W-E-E-T to watch. ๐Ÿ˜†

I am sure no other media person will speak with him or have him n their programs now. God bless our military. I think I will send Mr. Shaphk(?) a message of support, he will need it. You are painting the Polish people with a pretty wide brush – Poland is one of our closest allies in Eastern Europe and has always supported us. As a Polish-Amerian I am saddened by your remarks. The idea that they would disrespect our President is just way out of line. I suggest you take a look at the smiles on the faces of the Polish people in the photos above.

      May 27, 2011 at 1:55 pm

Well said blondegrrl. I was thinking the same as well. I also figured that Poland was one of our closest allies and has definitely supported the U.S on a number of occasions. All races and all people cannot be painted with a broad brush. We are not monolithic. We all live in pluralistic societies. Just as there are uninformed media outlets, there are well informed ones, that we have the opportunity to read on TOD thanks to Chipsticks. Just as there are people who are jerks within each race and country and unfortunately contribute to the messed up stereotype of others, they are nice, well mannered, intelligent people who bring out the best of their native men.

So take heart blondegrrl…. this African-American sends you a virtual hug and thanks the Polish people for all their help and love. I also thank them and you for the warmth, love, defense and appreciation of the wonderful President Obama. ๐Ÿ™‚

Dude (TO 2012), could you please STOP. Not every Polish person is the same. When you paint a whole race with a broad brush, you malign them. If disgusting stereotypes about white people, black people, muslims, hispanics and other minorities and religions continue to prevail.. then we will never live in a peaceful and respectful world. Iโ€™m sorry that you suffered such hardship while in Poland but DONโ€™T castigate all Polish people. Iโ€™m Catholic and I know that the Catholic church has some dictums that are weird even to me, but I wouldnโ€™t want ANYONE to judge me on some overarching theme that the Catholic Church might push. For example: The Catholic Church is heavily pro-life, against abortion and gay marriage. I do not follow this line because I think itโ€™s regressive, harms discussions and lives. I am HEAVILY pro-choice and pro-gay rights and gay marriage.

      • May 27, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Lee, sorry, but I’ve deleted yet another of your comments – life is just way, way too short for this. When you responded bitchily to another visitor the other day I came close to banning you – people come here to get away from that crap.

If you don’t like what’s posted on this blog – in this case photos of the President’s trip to Poland – why on earth do you come here? And your tarring of every Pole with the same brush is the kind of ignorant bile I expect to read on a Tea Party site. It’s racism Lee, nothing less. I’m fully aware of Poland’s horrible record on anti-semitism, gay rights, etc, but I also know plenty of Poles who are a lot more repulsed by it than you – because it’s their country and they are ashamed of that record. Have some respect for them. I also note that your hatred of Poland and all its people doesn’t stop you from having a “business interest” there.

I’m putting you on pending, Lee. No, it’s not censorship, you’re more than welcome to post your views here, but only so long as you’re civil to your fellow visitors and you spare us racist rants about entire nations of people.

Sorry for this rant everyone, I’ve had enough!

No need for sorrow! You are a great moderator – and you were right on this situation. While there is some truth to what TeamObama believes, nothing can change unless consciousness is raised. Here’s hoping TeamObama has his own consciousness raised about his own hateful feelings. Our President is a good example for showing how to get through tough situations and teach along the way.

I imagine that every Polish person he sees has a relative in Chicago. Chicago is the largest Polish city outside of Warsaw. Every day direct flights go from Chicago to Poland. They know he is from Chicago, and are probably giving him messages to take to their relatives…..They are certainly lighting up when they see him.

I worked in a Jewish Hospital for 7 years and listened to first hand stories of escapees from Auschwitz who were hidden and protected from the Gestapo. They were very grateful to the Polish people who put their own lives in danger to save them. There was also Irena Sendler who saved 2500 babies from the Warsaw ghetto. Poland performed many acts of humanity during WWII when others looked the other way.

I watched the video, and was really struck even in the nuance of respect that the President showed when he laid down the wreath.

You notice that he took steps walking backward, until he was at a respectable distance before turning his backside to the wreath and walking forward.

Just everything he does is with care and thought!!
