He moves so quickly with that long stride — step lively, people, step lively! That’s definitely an alpha-male move: got people looking like they’re paddling underwater to keep up. Ha.
“Bonjour, Mr. President.” Indeed.
Wow – he has so much swag…
STRENGTH AND HONOR SIR!!!
PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!
hahahahahahahaha. I love this video. I think he is the only head of state who can go to other people’s countries who is both so well received and can sprinkle some of his star dust on the leader of whatever country he is in. This man is unbelievable! How is this even possible? This is some awesome stuff. and you are right, lochelle, Tall, Dark and Handsome is all sexified and swagged up. Wow. It’s also highly amusing watching the other leaders following him and looking like pre-pubescent school boys. Is is bad that I view that gleefully?
Oh my gosh, I just watched it a third time and at 1:09 you see this demarcation in groups of G-8 leaders. It’s like the cool kid and his hanger-ons and then the second string ie: Cameron, Harper, Medevev (sp), and Merkle(whom i greatly admire). Then the back up. Also, I noticed that Cameron does not pander to PBO, infact, this could be my own projection, but it seems as though, now that he’s had his quality share of star dust, he seems to be stepping away from PBO and is probably mildy disgusted by the three guys following PBO around. Am I imagining things? Have I been reading too many novels, lost too much sleep? Either way, it is slightly nauseating seeing them (world leaders) fawning over PBO like a bunch of fan boys. Hey, you three, leave the clamoring and the giggles to the TOD Family and regular folk.
ps- I still find that mess hilarious though. I’ve always wondered to friends if we ever graduate from high school, apparently not.
you’re too funny.
“nauseating seeing them (world leaders) fawning over PBO like a bunch of fan boys.”
Hehehe….that’s okay. I love that it makes the rethugs and haters so damn mad. As for whether or not we ever graduate high school?….NAH, not really. Makes life fun 😀
Lisa, high school is still there no matter what age you are – lol.
😆
I could be wrong but watching the videos here of President Obama seem to show the French security service blocking the US Secret Service agents and the entourage at the point of entry or perimeter? if my observation is correct then I suspect that these minutes during which POTUS is walking all alone must have been an eternity for his security detail
Yes, I looked at that picture again, and realized that they were actually being blocked. On Daylife, the caption actually says they were momentarily detained. I think that’s why the President is looking over his shoulder, because there’s a bust up happening right behind him. I don’t know what the French security thought they were doing, when they know he’s got hundreds of these guys dedicated to keeping him safe all the time. The head guy looked mighty mad. Very scary moments. It’s moments like these that one just wishes the President would stay behind the gates of the White House.
Awww, the way he said merci was super cute. *faints* Look at his gorgeous smile. *faints again*
Goodnight TOD fam. Pray for our potus and our great nation. ❤
“Ah, merci,” comme un gentilhomme francais! Ok,he just needs to stop now. I can’t take any more!
He’s the only leader who look comfortable shaking hands with the people, the other ones looks like they never do anything like that. I can assume that Michelle should be home at the White House by now.
All I gotta say is…..”THAT’S A BROTHA” there 😀
OH YEAH!!! 🙂
…and some folks got the nerve (i.e. Cornell West) that he ain’t “A BROTHA” (if I knew how to make the smiley faces, I would post a slew of them/SMILE)
here is the part of the site that shows how to make emoticons. It’s awesome. Thanks, Ms. Chips:
http://theobamadiary.com/2011/02/08/23561/
speaking of Dr West…. I got in the car this morning and out came his voice – he was semi-hysterical, almost frothy, like his head was going to explode any minute…. I couldn’t change the channel fast enough.
What the hell has happened to that man?? He used to be rational, respectful, and above all GRACIOUS. WTF happened???
What happened to him? It’s called jealousy . PBO does not pander to self-appointed leaders speaking on behalf of the AA community. PBO reaches out directly to the AA community and any other community he wishes to address himself. Dr. West cannot act as a filter and he and others like him are LIVID!
There are no words to express how deeply saddened I am by this… the opportunity in the semblance of a teaching moment (or æon) the good Dr is letting pass him (and the rest of us) by, with this insane jealousy I find beyond heartbreaking, (and reprehensible, especially from one so well learned (and positioned by the media) as Dr West.)
I love seeing my President taking charge everywhere he goes. It’s amazing how the other head of states look so uncomfortable shaking hands and he working the crowd signing autographs and oh what swag. All the leaders want to walk with him because he has the favor of God! Our President does not have his nose stuck in the air and if he didn’t need security he would be much more invole with meeting people. this is the most any secret sevice crew has ever had to work. YOU GO BOY!!!!!!!!!!
I think it was more that the crowds were only shouting President Obama’s name and propably didn’t recognise most of the other heads of state…
After President Obama greeted the crowds the other guys were greeted more sedately with the generic “monsieur”…
I suspect the other heads of state were a bit miffed (Merkel looked a bit annoyed actually), except the Japanese Prime Minister who grinned from ear to ear and walked a bit faster to keep up the pace…
probably…
I really must start proof reading before I post…
I type so fast in my excitement and end up making too many typos…and grammatical errors – One must never write as they speak and think which is something I’m terribly guilty of…
President Obama is a perfect example of what the FLOTUS means when she says it’s cool to be smart. He is the total package. Love that swag.
Exactly! Was trying to explain this to my English friend who did not quite get the significance of this moment in history and this guy.
I watched it a couple of times. I love hearing the President speak French! It was interesting to see all of them walking together. They all seem comfortable with each other — I have the impression there is a mutual respect which I find wonderful! Thanks for the video, Chipsticks and Donna. Very interesting.
To me cameron tries to be like an Obama wanna be 🙂 it’s too funny to me. Everytime I see him I think he wishes he had OBAMA’s swagger.
Hahaha, PBO is the cool kid at school and all the rest of the kids want to be seen with him. What a great man we have in tis President. He is loved world over and the hating rethugs are sulking at all the love showered on our President. What a fun week this has been! Moneygall, Dublin, London and now France. Have had a contant smile on my face all week. I cant thank the heavens enough for having found this wonderul, informative site. Discovered it via huff and puff which these days, I try to avoid as much as I can. Chipsticks, you are a darling and thank you so much for keeping us informed, engaged and entertained.
It’s a shame that he doesn’t seem to that kind of love and respect here, in so that you don’t see it in the media coverage. If I just relied on the media and some blog sites, I would think he’s not accomplishing anything and the American people don’t like him. I just love his swag!!
It seems that wherever our president goes it’s blowing up a storm. Does all Europe have gale force winds this week?
I don’t like the SS being so far from Obama. Though there are probably sharp shooters up high watching his every move. Along with everyone else. What a job they have! And thank heavens for them.
Aren’t these G-8 and G-20 events usually heavily protested? I can’t remember the last time a friendly crowd gathered to say hello to the world leaders. Or more specifically to the President of the United States.
Great observation. I was wondering what was odd about this. You’re right. There was a nice older man in the crowd who shook the President’s hand and said “Welcome to France” Imagine that. How things have changed since the last administration. Someone also congratulated PBO. Was that a reference to Bin Laden?
I also noticed Sarkozy say to PBO “Be careful. The camera is here!” I found that quite funny.
He thinks everyone is like him that’s why he told PBO that!!!
Smart observation Anita…
It was mentioned on BWD that Sarkozy, Italian PM and Dimitri are all having problems at home. Which probably explains why Sarkozy suggesting getting over to the see “the people”.
What a President we have. I couldn’t be prouder.
Swaggalicious! I could just watch video of him walking! Yummy!!!
My goodness, the men in gray! They are all dressed alike, except of course, for Angela Merkle of Germany. Who is the squirrley, slightly rotund little man who is on the left (from the front view) of the president? This is high school all over with that tribal, whose- on- top mentality. Male relationships are heirarchal and it is obvious who is the leader of the pack. PBO is in the center and in the lead; those next to him are hanging onto his every word and jockeying to be near him. However, even as they suck up to him, they are looking for weak spots so that they can take his place. It’s rather scarey that so much of the West is in the hands of men who have allowed themselves to be seen acting like little boys.
They should probably leave the walkabouts to PBO. It is obvious that the others are not good at this (maybe it is not a tradition in the political life of their countries); it is much better for them to be who they are.
PBO is like a benevolent pied piper; hard to keep from following him.
Why are the Europeans so short? PBO, Cameron, and Steven Harper from Canada are all tall; the others are munchkins.
hahahahahahahahaha CEB. You are too much, but I do concur. 😆
😆
“Why are the Europeans so short?”. Hahaha, I was wondering that too, but I thought it best to not make fun of them. I don’t want to offend any of our foreign lurkers. People are who they are; we just so happen to have a debonair leader. He is to be admired, for sure 😀 Nite everyone.
Lol! I think the “slightly rotund” man may be Jose Manuel Barroso, head of the European Commission. I saw a pic somewhere with a caption.
But, seriously, where in God’s name is the Secret Service??? They surrounded him in Moneygall and were in front of the crowd in Dublin. Where’s this guy?: http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1946919_2011502,00.html; and Reggie? Come on, France! Where’s the cordon de securite?
i know! I love that guy! He’s my favorite! What’s his name? Maybe he went back with Michelle?
Another thing; why is Sarkozy always touching PBO? It’s not like they have a bromance.
I noticed that too. Yep, bromance on Sarkozy’s part.
He must stick under POTUS if he wants a lil camera shine 😉
…aren’t Europeans (especially the French) kinda touchy feely people (even the men)?
You are so funny CEB…
Lawd Have Mercy! That man can walk!!! Puts me in mind of the swag Sidney Portier had back in the day!
Dakota, you are so right! I always think of President Obama and Denzel Washington as men who really could hold classes on how to walk, but Sidney Poitier back in the day — Baby, oh yes! Guess I’m showing my age. LOL!
Honorable Mention to Howard Rollins in Ragtime and A Soldiers Story. Be still my heart!
Yes indeed, yes indeed…President Obama, Denzel Washington and Howard Rollings (A Soldiers Story)…LORD HAVE MERCY!
Did not mean to offend our friends from other coutries who visit here with my observation about the height difference. Just noticed it and commented. Will be more careful with my words.
Good night everyone.
CEB how could you offend ANYONE with your beautiful, heartfelt and insightrul comments. You were only stating a fact and this friend from abroad is certainly not offended.
Bless you CEB for your thoughtfulness.
POTUS will never lose that “brother walk” and I just love it! He is so assured of himself that others just walk quickly to keep up. When he went over to the crowd, it was second nature for him, but the other leaders were hesitant to give more than a handshake here and there while our POTUS worked the crowd with both hands. I am so proud of him and I pray for God’s continued favor on him and his family. Thanks for sharing that video Donna and Chipsticks – it was WONDERFUL.
PBO and Sarkorzy are the most friendly of the heads of state. Remember he threw sasha a birthday party in paris in 2009 and last year when he and carla were in DC they had a private dinner at the RESIDENCE. which really surprised the press.
I personally think Cameron wishes/thinks he is Obama. Remember when he was running, the UK press tried to compare his wife and Michelle as FL “fashionistas” and Cameron as Obama like with his charisma.
I don’t think PBO likes Cameron that well, his pals are Sarkozy and Medevev(?), Cameron and the Canadian PM know that therefore try to act like they don’t care. ALL IMO
Actually, some of President Obama’s senior campaign staff worked on David Cameron’s campaign…
You must admit though that all these heads of state have an ego or they wouldn’t be in the positions they are in…
And it must really sting to have anyone else shine brighter and for this long…
It always sucks to live in the shadows even if the person unconsciously casting the shadow is generous and unselfish in sharing the spotlight…
Ultimately, resentments creep in and in varying degrees for various people…
And just like some here in America and many in President Obama’s own party, they are always looking to take the shine off him, take him down a peg or two…
really? I didn’t know that some of PBO’s senior campaign staff worked for Cameron on his campaign? Interesting…. but you are absolutely right about resentment though. It must suck that they can’t inspire this much love and respect and adulation in their own countries.
Harper (the Canadian) is ultra conservative, so he’d be more like the GOP and isn’t Cameron conservative as well? That’s probably why they might not be as comfortable with each other.
I think that’s what it is. Cameron is a conservative puppet – I’m not even sure he completely understands the damage he’s doing, but he’s got the right wing flair down pat. As for Harper, he’s busy destroying the Canadian middle class, all Bush style. I think the President doesn’t mind them, but he hates their politics and their consequences. I’m glad he didn’t endorse Cameron’s evil plans re: economy. I’m sure he would love to have friends in the leader circles, because they could understand what pressures are faced on a daily basis.
Makes me think of the tribute the Speaker of the Commons made yesterday when he said that President Obama bears an unequal burden of essentially bearing the weight of the world on his own shoulders, unlike other leaders. And that he does it with grace. He’s so authentic.
I don’t think Pres Obama “hates their politics and their consequences.” I don’t think Pres Obama is a hater. The lesson I take away from every speech of Pres Obama, every comment, every action, is that Hate isn’t the way to go. Strength. Integrity. Courage. Intelligence. Empathy. Humour. But not hate.
And on a less serious note – doesn’t that walk just do wonders for the soul…! 🙂
VERY WELL AND BEAUTIFULLY SAID MARTHA!…:) YOU’RE RIGHT ON!
Cameron was indeed looking for an endorsement to his policies and apparently when asked about the coalition’s austerity measures during the press conference, PBO said (paraphrasing) that his main concern in the US was job creation and investment.
I actually think President Obama does have a good relationship with and likes David Cameron, the only problem I think is the younger Cameron wants in his role as Prime Minister to be viewed as on the exact same footing as President Obama the leader of the free world, and that’s not possible…
The Queen is actually the Head of State even if she is more of a figure head in actual day to day governing and decision making…
Cameron is ambitious and will give anything to be viewed as powerful, impactful and relevant in his role as President Obama is in his – not just in the U.K, but also around the world…and the green-eyed monster naturally rears its ugly head every now and then…
It’s interesting, but Mrs Cameron almost seems to resist bonding with Mrs Obama unlike Mrs Brown who became close…
Harper on the other hand has more of a cordial relationship with President Obama. He shares a common ideology with George Bush and the republicans even if he is less brash and maybe a bit smarter than his conservative brothers here…I think he quietly resents President Obama, his smarts, popularity, effortless charm, grace and authentic connection with people across every continent who identify with President Obama and completely embrace him…
It’s tough
It’s tough being them…
I must say…I had the chance to actually shake hands with President Obama when he was a candidate. We were all standing waiting for what we thought would be a mere glimpse of him going to a fundraiser in Sacramento….his motorcade pulled up and stopped across the street from where we were gathered . All of a sudden the door opens and he gets out and walk across the street and begin to shake hands. I swear we all almost fainted. It was like he took the oxygen out of us. He conducted about a 10 min press conference within 6 steps from where I was standing…It was one the most wonderful experiences of my lfe. And yes he is as tall, handsome and wonderful in person as he is on tv. Thank You God for giving him to us. Thank You Stanley and Barack Sr.
FROM ILLINOIS SENATOR TO THIS…I BET THERE ARE TIMES WHEN HE IS ALONE THAT HE JUST PINCHES HIMSELF IN WONDER! YOU GO MR. PRESIDENT…STAY SAFE AND REMEMBER…WE ARE ALL HERE AT HOME LOVIN’ YA’ AND STANDING WITH YOU!
IF YOU READ BODY LANGUAGE…OUR PRESIDENT IS THE MOST ‘SINCERELY APPRECIATIVE’ OF SHAKING HANDS WITH THE PEOPLE. HIS FEELINGS ARE REAL,HONEST AND HE WEARS HIS HEART ON HIS SLEEVE WITHOUT QUESTION.
That video was priceless, and then at the end Someone says “So Obama you won next election” and laughs. Lol! I’m sure Sarkozy appreciates your help Mr. President.
Great points, but let me offer a slight correction. From Illinois State Senator to this (Global Leader) in under a decade.
President Obama’s love for people shows were ever he goes. I think coming from a humble background helps him to relate authentically with people. He seems to genuinely appreciate the people coming out to see him and other world leaders at this event.
