    • May 23, 2011 at 1:27 pm

Yep, I see I was a bit too optimistic with my “in the afternoon, sunny and dry”.

The problem is these short showers – they’re too small to be really forecast by a weather model, although, going back through my graphs I can see that even two days in advance (the run labeled 2011052112, which forecasts up to 13 o’clock Irish time, there is a hint of showers (see http://moene.org/~hirlam/2011052112/MONEYGALL-rr.png): the uptick in the ‘*’ graph (the lower one) – that indicates rain due to showers (as opposed to rain due to front passage – the ‘o’ graph).

Anyway – it was a great day !

      • May 23, 2011 at 11:06 am

Hi Titti, I often hear the Guinness experts laughing at the notion of drinking it out of a can! Also, they say it’s the Irish water used to make it in Dublin that gives it its unique taste – ie different from Guinness made abroad.

        • 67 tally
          May 23, 2011 at 5:01 pm

This is true of EVERYTHING here vs EVERYTHING there – THE WATER. They don’t load theirs with chlorine and fluoride, etc…. You can TASTE the difference in EVERYTHING, from the beer to the cheese & chocolate!

They need to get to Scotland and have some haggis, neeps, & tatties!!!

From a historical perspective this visit to Moneygall is quite an interesting coda to President Obama’s genealogical journey. As a young man he set out on his own in 1988 to Kenya to retrace his father’s roots, which ended in that powerful tear-filled meditation on his father’s grave in Kogelo, Kenya (see Dreams from My Father). He did that when he was but a young man not yet world famous, still feeling his way around this complex world and trying to untangle his spiderweb-like roots scattered all over a global landscape.

Today he is in Moneygall out of happenstance which his rising fame in 2007 enabled others to do the maternal genealogical tracing for him. For a man who talked about how his own maternal family web was smaller compared to Michelle’s, now can happily and officially revise that part of his story. I am eagerly awaiting his second autobiography when this presidential gig is over. It will be very enlightening, just as his first one is.

Zizi, what a lovely post. Thank you. That is how I feel. He has been given the opportunity to feel the closeness of his mother and grandparents roots. He must be so grateful to have this experience. I remember him saying how patient his mom was when he was writing “Dreams” and had he realized how ill she was, he would have made it back to Hawaii to see her.

Due to Family illnesses and other complications — I have been unable to view your sites as usual. But thanks be to my Heavenly Father and your many comments; I feel as if I have been a part of the Moneygall Tour. I too had looked forward to this tour after ready “dreams from my Father” and from following his story over the years.

As a resident of the District of Columbia; I see and hear the meaness and disrespect directed toward our President and First Lady — no matter how much they both do for all Americans.
Yes, there will be a media backlash this evening; there would have been even more if they had sat in the Oval Office and concentrated on the raising of the Debt Ceiling. Yet we Seniors are thankful for the Advisors that point out that the whole world is watching and that they have to look beyond the John Boehners and the Newt Ginriches of this small world.
Thanking God daily that I have lived to vote for this President and to see Ms. Robinson and her lovely, intelligent Daughter Michelle.

Despite problems in my personal Family; I rejoice in this American success. I rejoice that there are brillanqt, spirit-filled IT folk like you to bring these wonderful scenes/photos into our homes. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Later, with love,

    Yvonne D. Baskerville
(75 and looking forward to the next Election of President Barack Hussein Obama.)

What a beautiful message – young or not so young, we all need the good that this President is trying to do. We’ll just hang in there!

Thanks to everyone posting here today! I’m at work, and was busy and not able to follow live, but reading all the comments, it almost felt as though I did!

    THANK YOU!
