‘…like a virtual wingnut flash mob’

Charles Johnson:
In three short paragraphs about President Obama’s speech this morning, the Associated Press warps the story beyond recognition: ‘Obama says Palestine must be based in 1967 borders….’ …Wow. Rarely have I seen such blatant distortion in a mainstream news release….

Note: he didn’t say “1967 borders,” he didn’t “side with the Palestinians,” and he absolutely did still insist on mutually agreed swaps and secure borders for both countries. It’s nothing but a re-wording of the same position the US has taken for many years.

And the AP’s first sentence is completely false: “…based on the borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war.”

When people refer to the “1967 lines” they’re always talking about the post-war armistice lines. Whoever wrote this sentence needs to have their journalism examined.

Based on this distorted and very misleading AP article, Fox News instantly put together a screaming fake outrage headline, currently leading on their front page: “Obama Shocker – Backs Palestinians, Tells Israel To PULL BACK TO ’67 BORDERS.”

…And of course, it’s already all over the right wing blogosphere that President Obama “told Israel to move back to the pre-1967 borders.”

No. He didn’t.

All this fake outrage spread throughout the Internet within minutes after the President’s speech, like a virtual wingnut flash mob. I guess it’s too much to ask these people to report what the President actually said.

Jeffrey Goldberg (The Atlantic): Nuttiest Coverage of Obama’s Speech So Far – The winner, by a mile: The Associated Press. Charles Johnson (see above) explains why this report was filed from an alternate universe…..

The Anti-Defamation League, one of Israel’s most stalwart supporters on the planet, just issued this statement praising President Obama (see here).

This Administration has come a long way in two years in terms of understanding of the nuances involved in bringing about Israeli-Palestinian peace and a better understanding of the realities and challenges confronting Israel.

This whole thing confuses me! But I will say Israel has been doing some dirty (and so has Palestine). We’ve been turning a blind eye for decades. That stops now. The current Prime Minister of Israel is doing no good for peace talks, it’s a shame.

Did you really expect the right wingers to report what was actually said by the President? Tomorrow’s Press Conference by Jay will be most interesting.

I’m surprised that these right wingers still have an ounce of credibility when they’ve been caught distorting facts so many times. Why do people still listen to them?

I saw the “Obama sides with Palestine” headline on KTLK AM1150, the online liberal radio station in Los Angeles that broadcasts Stephanie Miller and Randi Rhodes. I immediately said “huh?”, because that’s not what I heard from the speech. If liberal radio stations are repeating these lies, then where do we go for the truth?

They all take AP’s word for it. If AP is wrong, as it strongly appears, then everyone is wrong. It will be in every regional newspaper and news website across the country. That’s worse than irresponsible journalism. Don’t they care if they’re reporting truthfully or not, were they in such a rush to get something out there that it was sloppy, or was it intentional, or doesn’t anyone at AP check for accuracy before they send stories out across the land? Ugh.

Who holds the MSM accountable? I am so sick of this crap, and it seems to worsen with every passing day.

I checked the WashPo Israeli paper & even Jackson Diehl liked most of the speech so Obama did not side with anyone really.

President Obama was being completely HONEST about both. Israel and Palestine. He explained Israel’s problem and THEN, he explained what Palestine’s problem. He showed no bias or partiality.

These sick pitiful bastards. They want it to seem like this President is against the Jews. So they will lie if they have too. And what is sickening is the people on the left which is against him. You expect such B.S. from the right.

Tha?t speech was as evenhanded a speech as I have ever heard. He played no favorites. Our press is so intent upon the adversarial, that they can’t see and hear what’s right in front of them. They decide BEFORE he speaks what he is going to say, and if he doesn’t say what they have predetermined, they don’t know what to do, so they bend things. These “journalists” may not get it, but those outside our borders do. President Obama got bin Laden, they know he carries the big stick and will use it. This was good timing, giving the speech after the destruction of bin Laden.
Once again, the President is way ahead of all the little talking heads, who owned the conversation under the previous president. They actually could outthink and outguess him, but they can’t President Obama. They obviously are slow learners…2 1/2 years, and they haven’t figured out yet that he is the smartest person in the room. This policy promulgated today is not a continuation of the Bush Doctrine, it is a whole new direction, and the press is too slow to figure it out. I don’t think they actually read or listen.

    This is what bothers me:

Bibi addresses Congress next Tuesday. While PBO is in England! Media meme: who’s in charge here?

GOP House invited Bibi KNOWING PBO’s schedule. Politics politics politics…APIAC money chasing, Cantor piously wearing his yamaka, Palin and the evangelists bleating their end-times nonsense. Fox happily complying.
Thankfully, most people just want gas to go down 5 cents.

Still….I can see it all, and it bums me out.

Our president is gifted and we are blessed to have him as our leader. I do not have the words to express how I feel about his vision, strength and empathy. He has made and continues to make the world a better, more just place. That “hopey changey thing” is working just fine for me. What a statesman, what a man is our president. To think that one of the unprincipled blow hards who think to challenge him may have enough people fooled that we may be without PBO’s leadership for the next four years is scary.

Our President is pitch perfect. He didn’t take sides and was fair and just in his appraisal. He states truths others are afraid to speak. It’s time Israel and Palestine found a common ground without putting either at a disadvantage. Isreal needs to work harder. We’ve held their hand too long while they are just as responsible for death and hardship. The Palestine people who have no power need to be given the opportunity to live peacefully. With Hamas it is an eye for an eye. They all just keep killing each other.

He amazes me with all this background work that goes on which we are unaware of. Working out the finances with other countries to help Egypt and Tunisia strengthen the government they choose instead of trying to run the world. He is handing off responsibility to bring in others who normally would just let the US take action. He is the only person who is brilliant and brave enough to speak truth to power.

I have no words harsh enough to speak about my opinion of the AP and you are right. The idiots are going to ask Jay the most ridiculous questions tomorrow.

Let’s all keep our love, support and prayers going for our President and see who is the first MSM person to speak up about the real message given today. We can then email them our support. Is spite of all the hatred and distortions the media try to lay on President Obama he still comes out shining. We need to show our support loud and clear.

President Obama’s message was absolutely Candid, and he said that being a Friend to Israel, Is being truthful, and I can understand being truthful to Friends.

President Obama, Is trying to bring Peace to Everybody. He just want us all to GET ALONG, and to be respectful. This Is the Hope and Change that he seeks, and that he Campaigned on. He’s just a Good and Honest Person. This Is his Nature and how he see’s the World.
