pure poetry!

The Carlow Nationalist: The imminent arrival of US president Barack Obama has prompted 96-year-old PJ Furey to let his creative juices flow ….he has written a poem in tribute to the US president, honouring his historic visit to Ireland…

Arise you friendly Irish folk, And give a rousing cheer,
For the President of America, And his wife are coming here.

They arrive in Dublin City, On the twenty-third of May,
And thousands will be greeting them, On this historic day.

Then Barack gives a timely speech, And clearly lets us see,
He is the man for creed and clan, For peace and liberty.

And so to Offaly they go, To give a special call,
To visit their ancestor’s place, In dear old Moneygall.

And the people of the village, So faithful and so true,
Will proudly greet them when they call, With a Céad Míle Fáilte too.

They will thank the noble couple, And their good friends one and all,
And wish everyone fond memories, Of their time in Moneygall.

Now young and old in Erin’s isle, Wish Barack and Michelle,
Success in all they undertake, And a very long life as well!

The next poetry night at the White House, they should invite this guy. Maybe Fox won’t have a pissy fit if they do.

Oh – this is so lovely! I can’t wait for this trip. The people of Ireland have represented themselves so well in their anticipation of the President’s visit. (And the clips of the Queen arriving in Ireland showed her smiling from ear to ear – she looked really happy to be there).

I also watched this momentous occasion. It was all so interesting.

I think they are really going to love the First Family.

Chip, check out this article about the cornell west hatred and jealousy of Our President

    • May 17, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Hi Ballerina, I read the interview with West and it was honestly one of the most vicious, ugly rants I’ve read in a long, long time. As I said to a couple of people who got in touch about it, the root of his problem with the President doesn’t seem to be ideological at all – his ego got hurt, he didn’t get a phone call from the President to tell him how wonderful he was, and he didn’t get an invitation to the inauguration?!

And now it sounds like West is saying the President ‘isn’t black enough’ – he’s as bigoted as the worst of Teabaggers, a nasty, vicious little man.

Indeed – I’ve never watched or read anything from this West person. All I have to look at is the faces of the various kids at the Booker T. Washington commencement yesterday, and hear their stories of being inspired by the President – that tells me all I need to know. These hate-mongers will eat themselves up and be the authors of their own destruction. Meanwhile, the President just keeps on going.

I’ve seen two interviews with West. I get the feeling he thought that with PBO running and becoming president, PBO would start a black revolution and fill his inner sanctum with ‘powerful, elitist black folk’ who would make black issues the central tenent of their agenda. West is a belligerent, self-aggrandizing nincompoop. He is not to be taken seriously as his criticisms are soaked with envy and rage. He is a sick, sick man who would rather cut off his nose to spite his face. Have you ever seen those people who sabotage others because they can’t get what they want? That is the core of West, he is a scourge on the nation as a whole. What a sad and disgusting person. I like to think that there is a burning hot place awaiting him.

I heard he wasn’t actually hit in the face, but had some glitter thrown on him, and he was told “stop the hate”.

read the article earlier and thought the author was right about these two; however, she seemed like she was a bit in their camp, rather pouty that PBO has not recognized her (incredible ego these folks have) or paid attention to her views.

There was another article yesterday in Yahoo news about some so-called progressive cartooonist/columnist who was whining that publications did not want his poisonous (my word) critiques of PBO. It was called The Rise of the Obamabots. Who do these peopls think they are? The president as he says “has stuff to do.” He does not have the time nor the desire to stroke their egos. The funny thing is that there is this subtle yearning in both articles, on the part of the writers to be in PBO’s presence; they want his attention and recognition; and like balked children, when they do not get it, they act out. More and more it is apparent that PBO is one of the few adults in public life. They (politicians, journalists, intellectuals that entire group who live in the bubble and only talk to each other) want to be him and since they cannot, they will do all that they can to destroy him.

I totally agree with you about the underlying yearning of these asses to be in PBO’s presence.

I haven’t seen any proof, but I am convinced that at least part of Trump’s spectacular flameout must have started with what he perceived as a personal slight at some time. I think there is a lot of very personal jealousy of who PBO is as a man and what he has done with his life. And especially of how comfortable he is in his skin.

It’s not just professional jealousy, it’s almost a personal obsession. It’s really something to behold, and I have seen many people undone by it since I have been following Obama, first as a Senator, and now as President. It’s a fascinating phenomenon, psychologically speaking.

I apologize in advance for my rant….But i just watched this !!#!$ West…on the Ed’s show.
As i said before, I do if understand why MSNBC and other media outlets have this fool in their shows…
and if they are going to invite him…why not ask him some serious questions? instead of re-reading and repeating his vile mouth, and all the disrespect he shows to our President.
Why not ask him…What has he (West) done for the poor, has he organized? marched? talked to his district congressman/woman? WTF has he done to better the black communities, that he care so much?
Ask him …if ever went back to the hood, and became a community organizer?? All he does, he get a nice salary wherever he is teaches, maybe have some town hall meetings to spread his propaganda….I am so sick of this so called “Black Leaders” yet they all full of hot air…and can’t walk the talk….. At least Rev.Sharpton is doing something…he might not be a professor…but he’s doing all he can to have this President’s back.
You sir should be ashamed of yourself, by letting something as petty as not getting an invitation or a personal phone call, get the best of you, I don’t expect your behaveyour from a 5yr old, let alone from a grown man.
I am sure you wish you had an ounce of wisdom and intelligence that our Commander in Chief beholds.
All that education gone to waste…..what a shame?????

On a lighter note: Thanks Chip for the lovely post ..I adore the man and his beautiful poem, it kinda calm me down, knowing that our President is so loved all over the world….so for all the haters, you nothing but little ants.

    Long live the OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!

What a lovely gentleman with his beautiful skin and rosey cheeks. How thoughtful of him. I have been anxiously awaiting this trip to Ireland. To celebrate I have been working on my family tree. I’v never seen so many Irish names. I knew about the four but this is ridiculous in a very happy way. It will be an happiest na laethanta when the O’bama family touches down on Eire.

It’s good to know that I’m not the only one, who’s a late comer, and trying to catch up with Chips and Company, Lol. Of course, I go to bed early at night, so I miss out on a lot of the happenings here, until the next day. But I do have some comments to make on the various topics. Firstly, It’s just so nice to hear other Countries loving our First Family, to the point of going all out preparing for their visit 🙂 Makes me feel so happy on the Inside. I just can hug Mr. Furey for such a lovely warm Poem, Umm, I was touched by It.

And then there’s the topic of Cornell West, oh how Petty he Is, for Heaven Sakes, he refer to him as Brother, but saying all kinds of Crappy things about him 😦 SHAME ON YOU, Mr. West. SHAME ON YOU!! Then there’s Mr. Smiley both are behaving as two Elementary Boys 😦 I didn’t realize MRS. Harris seemingly, felt so strongly AGAINST our Beloved President. What Is the Problem here? Are People so stuck on themselves, that they think too highly of themselves? Are they so Envious of others? Envy, Jealousy, Is a terrible short coming to have, that must be miserable for them, oh My! I’m having a problem understanding that. There are all ways going to be dissagreements among People, but to Rag and Hate on them? So that gives them reason to trash their names and what they stand far?? Lord have Mercy on all of them. okey dokey, I’m outta here, going to see what Chip Is talking about on the next Blog. Later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 🙂
