gremlins update

Thanks to everyone who let me know in the post earlier today (and those who emailed me) if they’d been having problems viewing the site – unfortunately, lots of you have  😦

Because I haven’t made any changes to the lay-out of the site for months I’m mystified by the problem, and I’m not well up enough on these things to figure it out.

It does, though, seem to be a browser issue, although it’s not just an Internet Explorer problem, as I assumed before. WordPress recommends using Firefox, because it’s always having problems with IE, but a few Firefox users are having trouble with the site too. A few of you have also suggested it could be down to issues with anti-virus programs.

I’ve contacted WordPress support to ask for help fixing the problem, so hopefully I’ll hear back from them soon. Thanks for your patience, hang in there!

****

The endlessly wise and very, very lovely Bobfr just left this comment/tip:

At the time I was having difficulty with Firefox I switched to Apache and found everything ok. I then exited Firefox, after clearing the cache and browser history, returned, and all was well. So, I do not think it has anything to do with how you have the site configured, Chipsticks, and may have nothing to do with WordPress servers. It’s likely browser issues and when folk have difficulty the first thing they should do is halt and reload their browser application, clear the cache, and then connect to your site.

****

Just to let you know, I’m using Firefox version 4.0.1 and Safari version 5.0.5 and I’m having no problems – but I have no clue if that’s useful information!

Whoa. What does a person who is as technically challenged as I am do? I’ve been having problems for the last couple of days with the site (just this site), but I don’t have the slightest idea what Bob just said!!

I have tried 3 different web browsers – firefox, google chrome, and explorer. The site is still messed up on all of them. I also tried another computer and same thing. Hope it gets fixed soon – I love the great way this site usually looks and shows off the great work of Chipsticks!

You sound like me Virginia! Hopefully WordPress will get back to me and we can get this fixed, without you having to take a screwdriver to your computer! 😆

Thank you Chipsticks for your kind comments!

For Donna – What I mean is that you click on the name of whatever browser you are using (in the tool bar at the top of your screen where you also see File Edit etc and select Quit.

For virginia and others – in the tool bar, depending on your browser, under the pull down choices under the name of the browser, or under tools, or elsewhere a selection that reads ‘clear cache’ or ‘clear recent history’ or preferences and you will want to select and you will then be given the option of doing just that, clearing your cache, etc. You get a warning message asking if you are sure and you select yes.

Hope this helps – will be away for many hours at meetings, etc.

BTW – the site seems fine, today, in all the browsers I have access

Sounds like good advice Bob, although I admit I do not know how to do any of that! I’ll ask my husband to take a look regarding your advice. Thanks!

I use firefox, have not had any problems—although I’ve been away the last couple of days and have only been able to check in sporadically. But I am having a problem with John Stewart right now after seeing the review of his 2nd appearance on O’Reilly tonight where he said he could see not voting for Obama and voting for a Repub if he thought the Repub presented a clearer path for the future, or some obscene similar sentiment. And of course they included in the show all the Stewart clips where Stewart expressed his “disappointment” in Obama’s “performance” a la Matt Damon. And Stewart expounded on the same. It was disgusting to the max. Ugh ugh ugh ugh. With friends like these……. Some of these people who purport liberal ideas are so muddled-brained—-didn’t they just witness all the horror that happens when so called liberals engage in this sort of foolish, selfish, naval-gazing? All hands on deck please people! Engage a brain cell!

Dotster, that is why we need to work hard for the reelecting of the President. We need to work like he is down 30 points in the poll!

Wow – Stewart actually said that on O’Reilly tonight? I just hope he does not have influence on our young people like he used to.

Jon Stewart is not interested in doing the right thing – he’s into self-promotion, just like the rest of them.

My question for Jon Stewart is what would that clear path for the future look like? As far as I’m concerned, a statement like that, knowing what the Republican party currently stands for, means that he’s looking for any decent sounding white man to take the presidency from President Obama – to return order to the place. How can he ask a Republican to articulate a clear path for the future, when they haven’t offered anything workable in several decades, and their policies have been proven to be failed policies? How can he ignore the very clear and consistent paths for the future offered by the Democratic President?

I hope the President never grants Jon Stewart another opportunity to be in the same room with him – ever.
