Greg Sargent: Moments ago, the Dem bid in the Senate to end tax breaks for Big Oil fell short of the 60 need votes, 52-48. The only two Republicans who voted Yes: Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe.
The Dems who opposed it: Mark Begich, Mary Landrieu, and Ben Nelson.
Meanwhile, Senate Dems are circulating video of all the Senate Republicans who once supported ending them:
Why? Two oil State Dems and Ben Nelson. I could see if it was 57-43 and Dems lost three votes, but this didn’t come close. I like Heller and Brown voting to keep the tax breaks for big oil – now if only the Mass Dems could find a candidate.
Forget about Begich, Landrieu and Nelson as that’s not the story nor the reason for the vote.
This is merely a continuation of enabling the Republicans to write the 2012 ads that will drive America to the largest voter turnout in history (not just total but % of registered voters) and a landslide that will eclipse 1936.
All you need to do is remind everyone, day after day after day ….
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they protected big oil subsidies;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they protected the wealthy from tax cuts;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they drove the US to the brink of defaulting on our debt and crashing the global financial system;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they VOTED TO KILL MEDICARE;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they attacked women and girls;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they did everything they could to continue to ship jobs overseas;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they tried and tried and continued trying to kill unemployment insurance;
The Republicans promised jobs, instead they tried and tried and continued trying to kill support for job training
Bobfr, I really like what you wrote. I hope you create a youtube ad for this and I hope you send it to Mr. Messina asap…. Let the OBF know with a follow-up..
Landrieu and Nelson have been problems for Democrats too long. I am sick to death of both of them. Liberals hate that the President can’t get more of his agenda passed, well they never call out the Dems that don’t support him. You can’t be bothered with the other party when you can’t even get your own party to do what is right.
Arrrrrrrrggghhh I’m sooo mad right now. I hoped something crappy like this wouldn’t happen.. but with some fickle dems like Nelson, Landrieu, and, Begich you can never tell. This is the same thing Nelson and former Senator from Arkansas Blanche Lincoln did to the public option part of the healthcare bill. Lincoln got kicked out so don’t worry guys.. there’s still hope in the voter turnout that’ll get rid of these fickle bluedog dems that always worship the oil companies, lobbyists and the almighty dollar instead of doing what’s right for the American people.
I am personally cool with 3 Dems not voting with the rest.. The point is we have over 45 Republicans on record siding with Big Oil and Gas over struggling middle-class AMERICANS trying to fill up at the pump. Do you know how this can be used on the road to get back the House, maintain the Senate and be used for the re-election campaign of our beloved President…
What wrong with these three democrats!!
We need to GET THEM OUT!!

Disgusting!
You know if the GOP takes the senate in 2012 that the 60-vote threshold for everything will be thrown out the window.
The GOP will take the US Senate and US House because the DEMS will give it to them.
Begich, Landrieu and Nelson are excellent reasons why.
