well, o….kay

A visitor walks at the Great Roman Empire sand sculpture exhibition in Moscow’s Kolomenskoye open-air museum, on May 12. According to the sculptures’ creators the statues depict G8 leaders in Roman togas, (R-L) Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, US President Barack Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Harper looks more like Rosie O’Donnell 😕

LOL @ Rosie O’Donnell! Also, Our President must be on steriods! His legs look huge now when I always thought they were on the skinny side 🙂

Can you show any proof that the president’s legs are skinny in real life. Just sayin. Not that I want to but curious to know.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, I don’t mean skinny as in “scrawny” or “puny.” I mean skinny as in slender, lean, lanky, lithe…Our President’s legs are long and lean, just like the rest of his body. The legs depicted in this sand art is stocky/stout/chunky.

Hey hopefruit2 I was hoping you will fall in my trap and produce one of those beach photos of Him in Hawaii shirtless for my eye candy as proof. Am sorry if I made you think otherwise. Love ya.

Ha! I almost fell in your trap. I was about to search for one of those photos but got sidetracked 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

That is funny. Actually glancing at the the national flag on his togas arm, is it blue, white and red or green, white and red?

    • May 12, 2011 at 10:40 am

Ha, yeah, it looks very like the French flag on Berlusconi’s arm!

      • May 12, 2011 at 10:45 am

It could be the Italian flag if the first color is GREEN but in the photo it appears blue. I also think the nose looks like President Sarkozy and the hair too – Prime Minister Berloscnoi wishes he had both. LOL

        • May 12, 2011 at 10:55 am

Definitely looks blue, alright – maybe the sculptor got confused by the Italian team wearing royal Azzuri blue! It might, of course, be Sarkozy …. the fact that we (and the caption writer) aren’t sure isn’t exactly a tribute to the work!

THAT IS FRANKLY….AN INSULT TO THE PRESIDENT…THEY ARE TRYING TO ATTACH HIM TO THE REVELATION….RE-CREATION OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE…AND THE ANTI-CHRIST CONSPIRACY! THIS IS NOT A COMPLIMENTARY EXHIBIT!

I WOULD REMOVE THIS. IT WILL CAUSE A FAAAAAAAR’RIGHT WING’ MEDIA BLITZ WE DON’T NEED!

    • May 12, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Ha, I wouldn’t worry about the far right Sue, they’ll make a fuss out of anything. It’s not like the President, Harper and Belusconi commissioned this, it’s just the work of a crazy sculptor!

The first thing I noticed in this sculpture is the musculature in the legs — very Roman. It might be that the artist never saw the legs and feet of our president, but it’s still pretty impressive. I’ve been wondering how they go about this — anyone know? I mean do they get a huge pile of sand and wet it down, let it set, and then get to work carving the three people? I imagine it would need to be sprayed with something to keep it all together.

What I’m most intrigued by is that this was in Russia and the artist was honoring the presidents of other countries. Russia is usually very jealous of the country’s own standing in the world. It was a perennial joke during the cold war whenever anything was touted, mainly by the US — we’d hear, but the USSR thought of this years ago!

And actually, they do figure large in science, they have never had to be defensive. Some of their ideas were a little nutty, but then so were some of the West’s.

The first thing I noticed was the funny toe 🙂 That made me laugh for the second time after seeing how badly Harper was depicted.

Well, Isn’t it curious that the two other “toga-ized” presidents are wearing sandals while the American President is not. you just have to examine the images of blacks in the 19th and first half 20th century to realize that the muscular but barefoot sculpture of President Obama recalls many derogatory icons of black men. i don’t find this positive.

I was just going to make the same comment. The first thing that struck me is that the President’s feet are bare, and the others have sandals. It reminds me of the many historically inaccurate and disparaging images of men of African descent. Can’t say I like it at all.
